Found this local gem after coming from BWI. The owner was friendly and recommended the Italian cold cut and Cheesesteak. The sandwiches were delicious! My boyfriend said it was one of the best Italians he's ever had. The cheesesteak was also great. It's a grab-n-go kinda place so we ate in the car. First time here came with my boyfriend really wanted a sandwich and didn't really want to go to subway or potbelly just wanted to try something new and let me just say that the staff was sooo friendly and super helpful answered all my many questions . Greeted with smiles immediately after walking through the door. The gentleman suggested a bbq pulled pork sandwich and it did not disappoint it was delicious I also had ordered a turkey club and that was my absolute favorite of the 2. We swung by here to pick up lunch when we had guests in town and all the food was fantastic! It took a few minutes to prepare (we had a large order), but we hung out and watched TV and browsed the small shop while we waited. We ordered cold sandwiches (cold cuts, tuna salad), hot sandwiches (cheesesteak), and some fried food (chicken fingers, fries). We also picked up some chips, dip, and drinks from the store. Everything was delicious. The staff was friendly and entertaining and clearly cared about the customers. There was a crowd of regulars there for their lunches and lottery tickets as well. Holy cow, I don't know where to start. I travel a lot and this is by far the best sandwich I have ever had. Hand made by the owner himself, Deven is an actual example of the American dream! Self employed, immigrated LEGALLY and after enjoying a roast beef sandwich, he told himself that he wanted to have his own Deli and serve the best of meats/cheese and bread. I can't tell you how delicious this Italian sub is. You need to treat yourself to one of the best delis around and drop in for a sandwich. Alright so I walk in and love the options that they have displayed and while the owner waited patiently for my buddy and I to order a couple of regulars came in and steered us to get the seafood salad sub, smoked Turkey sub, and Italian sub. All absolutely fire and while my buddy and I were eating the owners came to check on us to make sure we had enough napkins and if we enjoyed our meal. On my many trips to BWI I always noticed this little corner store called Deven's Deli. It is located across the street from the Econopark parking lot. I decided why not and give it a try. On a Saturday I decide to check this place out. Popped in Deven's Deli into Google maps and I was off. It took me to the Ferndale area of Glen Burnie where what do you know...... Another Deven's Deli. Upon entering the store, it is more than a deli but a neighborhood institution. All the customers were greeted by name and you could tell it was one of those places that has its regular customers and been in the same spot for a minute now. This was verified as I asked if this was the same Deven's as by the airport and he said it was as his father was at the BWI location. He also told me that this one I was in was the oldest of the Deven's and that there were more locations. Even one that sold and specialized in pit beef (Deven's Canopy) so another bookmark added. For the most part it is an order and go place but my guest and I sat down to eat our orders at a small table near the window. Yes, we were that hungry. I went with the Reuben which I admit I wavered a bit on as the young man behind the counter offered up a sample of their shrimp salad. It was good and I saw what all the rave was about from fellow Yelpers who mentioned the seafood salad. The Reuben was piled high with meat and delish. At first you look at it and think there is no way I will finish this but you will look down and it is almost all gone. All the sandwiches I saw being made that day were huge and looked tasty. Good food and good service is guaranteed here and I am sure at any of the Deven's establishments you choose. It is a family run business and they take pride in their food and that they have been serving the neighborhoods in the area for years (2 in Glen Burnie, Hanover, Linthicum Heights). I am talking about literally serving the community as the owner was awarded with the You Made a Difference Award as the owner was recognized for serving contributing food to local needy families. So stop by and sample I was more than impressed with on my first visit and enjoyed trying the local eats. read more

The owners are such nice people. We were on our way to the airport and wanted something besides airport food so we googled someplace close by. Am I ever glad we did! Deven's Deli didn't disappoint. Yelp reviews kind of steered us a bit wrong here. Don't misunderstand the owner is very nice and they have an extensive menu. We knew we would order our sandwiches to go as this is more of a take out place and that was fine. We ordered the pit beef and the pit turkey. We were expecting more of a grilled/smoked flavor on the turkey than there actually was. It tasted fine, but just wasn't anything special. The pit beef on the other hand was actually burned on a good portion. Three different people tried the same sandwich because we were trying to decipher what the burn was from. It was actually from the blackened bits from the grill....which definitely should have been shaved off. Someone said that if it had come with bbq sauce it would have masked the burn somewhat. Also these sandwiches weren't exactly cheap. Two turkey, a beef and two small sides of fries came to almost $35. read more

Wow! Walking in, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. It seemed like just your average deli. We were hungry. We were headed south. We needed a quick snack. Upon immediate arrival we were greeted joyfully by who I assumed to be the owner. He seemed genuinely happy to serve us. He was speedy with taking our order, all the while engaging in pleasant chitchat. He suggested the fresh croissant... Now, I consider myself a croissant connoisseur of sorts. I was hesitant. How fresh could a small deli on the other side of the train tracks (literally) croissant really be? To put it simply, it was magnificent. A fluffy, buttery, flaky cloud of yum-ness. The best decision I've made on my trip thus far, was taking my first steps into Deven's Deli. If you're smart you'll make that decision too. Oh yeah-- my suggestion, get the croissant. read more

On my first visit here the counter guy highly recommended the shrimp salad sandwich. I'm so glad I took his recommendation. The shrimp was crisp, mayo cold and creamy and the old bay was the perfect complement. Today I went for a second time and got a BLT sub. I wish I'd had the self control to take a picture before I ate the whole thing... it was piled high with crispy bacon. I like it simple so I got lettuce, tomatoes and mayo. BWI Travel-Flyers -- Here's a great reason to use the Econo-Park lot. I had the pre-flight hungries, so I took a chance and pulled in to the country-store lookin' Deven's Deli, one intersection short of the parking lot. The young man that waited on me from behind the counter was super polite and friendly. I had in mind a salad but was tempted to try one of their sandwiches. The man recommended a sandwich made out of shrimp salad. I asked it were homemade and he said "very." I took him up on it. While he was making my sandwich I shared with him that I'd like extra lettuce. When he delivered it, there was a lot of lettuce, but not much room because this great-lookin' shrimp salad (huge chunks of shrimp) was spilling out of the roll. I asked, so he piled even more shredded lettuce on top. I sat down to eat the biggest and BEST shrimp salad sandwich I'd ever tasted. No tiny, salty bay shrimp in this meal-sized sandwich. The creation was artfully simple. Not a lot of condiments (i.e. relish) to disguise or overpower the excellent taste of the shrimp. As I was eating, people -- all locals -- came and went. The staff knew every one of them by name. I left there feeling very satisfied, partly by the sandwich, but also from the nice experience. I recommend it with no reservations to anyone, especially travelers that are on time, as I was. For my next trip, I am allowing an extra 20 minutes or so for my departure and my return.
