Tbh I would do 3.5 stars but I'm gonna give 4 because my other friends loved it. The vibes were great everyone was super friendly and the seating was super nice especially on a hot day like today the outdoor seating was perfect with the umbrellas yay. The food however was not my favorite tbh. Some flavors felt a bit mismatched or missing if that makes sense idk. The taro rice cakes I felt could have been presented better and the spring rolls were a bit burnt. This is all personal taste tho I guess because alll of my friends LOVED it so idk. We stumbled across this place trying to find gluten free options. This place did not disappoint. I was also thrilled to find out that this establishment is Filipino owned and some of their decorations shows it. My friend who has had Filipino food before commented that the spring rolls tasted like pancit a bit. Haha. Not sure if that's just in her head but they were delicious nonetheless. Party of four and we had the ribs, egg rolls, green beans, tacos, pho and one other soup noodle dish I forgot the name of. They were all excellent. The staff was amazing. One lady with dark long hair was helpful and friendly. This will be a place that I will frequent. Priced right, good food, great ambiance and friendly/helpful staff. I've been hearing about Mosaic for a while now from a couple of different groups and finally checked it out when I was craving some wings. I haven't been here since it was an Italian restaurant so it was a pleasant surprise to see the filipino/vietnamese fusion menu. Honestly, pairs so well with the beers on tap and to line your stomach. Had to go big and try a couple options on their menu since I couldn't decide. ____________ + Bahn Xeo Tacos - I've never seen this on a menu before and it's really creative! I like the idea and they were definitely topped with a ton of food but the taco itself didn't hold up so well. Would be better to have a more crisp texture but I ended up just eating this one with utensils. + BBH - Great option to try if you want something soupy. I don't usually get BBH and would go for the pho but something was calling to me this day. Had a nice spice and noodles were chewy but would opt to get something else next time. + Fish Sauce Wings - Would 10/10 go back for the wings since they were massive, had a great crunch, and saucy without being drenched. Came out piping hot (almost too hot to eat) but worth every bite. + Fried Spring Rolls - Solid options if you want something to share with the table and smaller bites. ____________ All in all, they have a great selection of beers, ciders, and even wine on tap. Firstly love the St. John neighborhood and was so excited to find this gem of a taphouse with some excellent food. PARKING: Street parking but we were here over the weekend so we parked in the lot for ACE and the bank since there wasn't any street parking open. There were no signs saying we couldn't so take this with a grain of salt. AMBIANCE: Inside the taphouse had plenty of seating both bar and table. The patio was really nice because it was really sunny outside. They allow dogs outside and my little buddy had a good time being out with us. There was plenty of seating, long tables good for groups. Also they were able to pull down the shades since it was actually quite warm despite the cool weather. Casual and easy vibes here. FOOD: - Pork Belly Skewer: Savour and sweet and fatty in all the right ways. Delicious. Green sauce enhanced the flavours as well. - Mino Banh Xeo Tacos: The combo I never new I needed. The shells crispy and the pork/shrimp filling was so flavourful. Loved the calamansi fish sauce with it. ALSO, the Vietnamese herbs made this taste just like banh Xeo in a really yummy way. - Cha Gio Spring Rolls: Crispy and delicious. Filling was yummy and the fish sauce added some fresh sour notes. - Fish Sauce Wings: Sticky and ooey gooey goodness. Not too salty and not too sweet. Overall a solid chicken wing. - Fried Tofu Bites: These were okay. Nothing much to be said about them. - Drinks: We had a Helvetia which was crisp and slightly sweet. A good solid cider with peach and blackberry flavours. Definitely enjoyed. SERVICE: A lot of it was self serve. Go in and order and then they give you a buzzer when your order is ready. The tables outside were pretty dirty and sticky. Also make sure to clean off your own table. Staff was nice but we didn't interact much with them since we sat outside. Back on taco Tuesday. And boy is it busy. I ordered the birria tacos combo. (Taco Tuesday special) So good and still delicious. Also got a dopplebock beer. My husband got the wings with fish sauce and extra spicy. "Very crispy spicy and flavorful" (his words). They were very busy today so I won't penalize them for the fact that they completely forgot my order. But they acted quickly to recover from the mistake, and I actually think that should be rewarded. This place is small so not a lot of seating indoors during this winter season. But they do have heated seating outside and covered. read more

I went to this Taphouse to meet up with a friend and it definitely did not disappoint. I tried one of the Lagers which was very good and the bartender was super friendly and struck up a conversation with me while pouring my drink. There is ample indoor and outdoor covered seating and the ambiance is very chill making it a great spot to catch up with old friends or spent the night after work. Overall, would definitely recommend this spot for a quick drink or bite of their menu. read more

Had a great Day Date with the husband. We came for the weekly special of BOGO beef Pho. Their Pho was clean, flavorful and you have to eat it with the pickled garlic and jalapeños (game changer.) The wings were super crispy and delicious (maybe my current favorite in portland!). And the fried rice cake was a real sleeper hit, not something you see very often but they really blew it out of the park! The ban xeo tacos were also tasty, and a really fun take on the traditional vietnamese dish. Everything was cooked fresh, hot, and tasty. Service was friendly and the atmosphere was warm and cozy, great place to relax with a cold pint! My only complaint would be the predominance of ipa's. With so many taps it would have been nice to see a little more variety, but don't let that stop you because there was plenty of good beer to go around! read more

What a unique taphouse with a great taplist and creative twist on Vietnamese cuisine for their food menu! We got a pint of the Sun River Stout (which is always great) and a cider to share, as well as a few food items. Their Bot Chien Trung was my favorite thing. The Taro Pancake was soso crispy while the eggs were fluffy and soft. Great texture contrast and flavors. Their Canh Ga Nuoc Nam were also some of the best wings we've had in town. Crispy on the outside while moist on the inside ans droused completely in spicy fish sauce. This was indeed a great pairing for the beers. Their Banh Xeo Tacos were decent, in my opinion. I liked how well-stuffed they were and their portion was great, especially with three tacos per order. However, they could have been crispier so it's a unique idea but can be improved upon. Space was big and cozy with indoors and heated outdoors seatings. Staffs were also very friendly. A super fun spot to grab some cold ones and tasty food. read more

Lots of green onion and either chive or culantro (not cilantro). There was plenty of beef and it was tender. The bowl comes with a mini tub of pickled garlic and jalapenos for your add ins and the garlic was our favorite. Note that one bowl is BIG - like Large or XL. The tap house has a cozy inside environment with a nice heated patio out front. You order your food and drinks at the register and they buzz you when your food is ready to pickup. We ordered a bunch of the skewers to try out (pork belly, chicken, mushroom) and the beef la lot and the pomelo jellyfish salad. All the skewers were great but pretty small. We really enjoyed the beef la lot and would definitely recommend trying those. The pomelo jellyfish salad comes with pickled cucumber and lotus root and the menu said it also has chili powder, Vietnamese spices and Thai chilies. I didn't care for the salad at all. It was a little too pickle-y and sweet. Maybe because most of the salad consisted of sweet pickles? Could not taste any spice at all. Oh well, 4/5 dishes were good - can't win them all. Our bill was $73 after tip (this includes two $6 beers) which is a little steep for some small bites and a couple small appetizers. read more

What Mosaic Taphouse excels at is ambiance and decor. The interior is clean and well decorated, and the outdoor patio is great as well (where I spent the evening). It's a cozy place that I enjoyed spending a long evening with friends at. The taplist consists of 24 options, mostly comprising of IPAs. As a fan of IPAs, this was great, but I'm sure on hotter days it might be nicer to have a larger selection of light beers. I'm sure the taps swap out over time, so it may not be an issue when you visit. My major hangup for this spot not being a consistent hangout spot was the food. The menu boasts a very unique Vietnamese pub-food flair that's very exciting to dig into. Having just come from seeing a movie, belly half-full of popcorn, I opted for a lighter option of the Banh Xeo Tacos. Instead of tortillas, these tacos use savory rice pancakes, which unfortunately were not crispy or firm enough to hold their shape. The overall flavor and ingredients were pretty good, but the meal quickly became quite a big mess as the pancakes ripped in my grip. All that being said, my friends all got other meals that looked really good. The Canh Ga Nuoc Mam (wings) looked really crispy and flavorful-- majorly jealous. The kind of place where when you ask the server "How are the wings," he doesn't just say "great," but launches into a memory of a soup his Filipina mother used to make when he was a kid, and how the wings include those flavors. Just great customer service, and it carries over to a friendly atmosphere among the patrons. People interact in a way that goes beyond most restaurants -- and this was in the middle of the day, before most of them had started drinking! Very nice big, covered outdoor patio, which is a high priority for me for Covid safety and also just because it's nice to sit outside! Especially if you bring a dog or just enjoy seeing dogs. Beer selection is good, too, and includes some interesting NA options. Unfortunately I haven't had any food here to knock my socks off, though. The aforementioned wings (a special for Portland Wing Week, although there are other wings on the regular menu) were good. And so were the green beans. But the tacos, which was the most expensive item we ordered and expected to be the main part of our meal, were not good at all. I like the concept, I realize they are a Vietnamese-Filipino-American interpretation of Mexican tacos. But they were not good at all, neither the shell nor the contents. read more

Staff was great - so helpful and friendly. Kid friendly with a good bit of outdoor seating. Knocked off one star for the food. Options and flavors were incredible. We ate almost everything we ordered but I will say that we ordered the wings, ribs, and pork belly skewers and the cook on all proteins was pretty off. They were all really tough but I will emphasize again that the flavors were incredible. Even our two kiddos loved the papaya salad and ribs. We are so lucky to have found this place our first night here! It's a queer owned taphouse with many different beers, drinks, and a couple of wines along with an in-house Vietnamese pop up that has some of the most delicious food ever. Definitely try the spring rolls and the grilled peppers! The ambience couldn't have been friendlier. We were welcomed, the owner, Lawrence remembered us by name a couple of days later,and it's a very convivial spot with plenty of outdoor spots for drinking and dining.
