In fact, she is the only person I have allowed to cut my hair in many years (I used to do it myself.) I like that they have a web site (http://moshimoshimeanshello.com) so I can make my reservation online when I have my calendar ready instead of playing phone tag. Just thought I would update my review to include the eyebrow waxing. I took my teenage daughter her to get some advice about her brows. We didn't want anything obvious that people would notice but something to help manage them since they are a bit overwhelming on her face. We met Jenny and she was very nice. Note this is only for Wedding related hair: I originally booked Moshi Moshi for my wedding day hair appointments for me, my mother and my 4 bridesmaids, about 10 months in advance of my memorial day weekend wedding. Little did I know that they were planning to charge us $1000 for hair and makeup. I had emailed to confirm our appointment times about two months before the wedding, and received an email saying..oh by the way it will be $1,000 for them to close the salon and give us their full attention. I wrote back immediately and said that was way too much money, and the owner responded saying that they could lower the price to $600, but they they couldn't itemize it for me. Horrible haircut. Hairdresser wreaked of alcohol. Those are the bottom lines. I've debated whether or not to write this review, because I wanted to give the hairdresser the benefit of the doubt.. maybe she just had a mimosa for brunch? Maybe she was having an off day? But a week later, I'm really honestly just pissed off about my entire experience. This was my first visit to Moshi Moshi-- a salon I had chosen based on these Yelp reviews. I could smell alcohol on my hairdresser's breath as soon as she greeted me at the front, but I brushed it off at first thinking there's no way I'm smelling that right. But after 45 minutes of close talking/cutting there was no mistaking that. She didn't appear drunk, otherwise I would have definitely gotten up and left, but she did, ultimately, give me a really crappy haircut-- and by crappy I mean that my longest layer and 2nd longest layer are 3 inches different in length. We're talking serious uneven choppiness here. Sooooo glad I opted out of getting bangs cut that day. Can you imagine THAT disaster? I won't be returning. Major disappointment. I tried this place out twice and was not satisfied. The first time I went, I asked the stylist to not use a razor on my hair and yet she did and continued to do so even after I asked her to stop. The second time I went, the owner cut my hair. My layers were not well blended. There are sections of my hair that are really heavy and have no layers and then others that have lots of layers and it does not look good. Also, I had to come home and trim pieces of the hair myself because there were pieces that were 2 inches below my hair line. I was not happy. read more

While I wish that I was able to rate them on my haircut I was not even able to get into a chair before needing to write this review. I contacted Moshi Moshi to make an appointment today and they said that I could take the spot of someone who had cancelled. I was told to show up in 30 minutes or so and I would be taken care of. When I arrived about 35 minutes later I was told that I was 15 minutes late and that they could no longer see me. I drove from Durham for this appointment based on the many strong ratings, but I have to say that what I experienced was very poor customer service on their part. I don't recommend going for cut or color, but the waxing is the best. She is fast, cheap and really nice. She also uses wax that dries and then is ripped off as opposed to the cotton strips. I have had both and the hard wax is a lot less painful. Hands down the best wax in Chapel Hill read more

I love Moshi Moshi. I love it so much that even though I live in New York City, and have a great salon there that I also love (recommended by Catlin when I first moved up to NYC 9 years ago), I nonetheless do everything in my power to get my hair cut at Moshi Moshi, by Catlin, whenever humanly possible. I have literally flown to NC to get a haircut at Moshi Moshi before. And that's because Catlin is nothing short of a creative genius and a miracle worker. Which was proven again, for the hundredth time, last night. Last night, I went to Catlin with my hair in . . . an unexpected state. (I am blonde; it was pink.) I needed her help, badly. And she performed a Thanksgiving Eve miracle. She managed an amazing, transformative fix that I very much doubt any other person could have pulled off--all while keeping me utterly entertained (as always), calm, relaxed, and sipping a nice glass of wine to boot. By the end of the night, I was completely stunned by what she was able to do, and utterly, utterly grateful. And while her heroic feats last night were the catalyst that got me to enter this uncharted Yelp territory (I've only ever written one other review, years ago), I've had the same feelings of awe & thanks every other time I've walked out of Moshi Moshi for more than a decade. Catlin is a true artist, a consummate professional, and a perfectionist. She will make you look so much better than you ever could have hoped to look in your normal, civilian pre-Catlin life. She's also brilliant, hilarious, and full of incisive commentary on life, pop culture, and human behavior. If I could afford to fly to NC to get my hair cut by Catlin every month, I would do it. Nothing but nice things to say about Jessie. Truly the kind of grade A moral character that is so very lacking in things of an aesthetic nature. I came to the shop to inquire about the American Wave. I have incredibly straight hair - so naturally I desperately want curly hair. I've tried a few different types of perms but met with little to no success. I met with Jessie once to discuss the details of what to expect and to allow her to see if my hair would cooperate. She suggested we schedule a test - perming a few strands to make sure it took. I rolled into to see her for the test perm completely unprepared. I was running around all day and didn't have time to rewash my hair before the visit. She washed me up and did the test perm... All without charging me a nickle despite my offers to pay. I had an appointment for her to complete a full perm about 5 days later but she encouraged me to see if the curl stayed in my hair and if it didn't or if it just wasn't enough curl to make it worth my while then to cancel. There was no pressure, no pushing - she just wanted to do the right thing for me. She called me Tuesday morning to see how I faired. I described my results - curly the first day and then barely anything the next. Honestly I was still thinking I might go for the full perm just to have a little something but she said I shouldn't and offered to look into any other options to see if she could find something better. Really the whole experience left me floored. I can't say that I've encountered this level of service and quality business in a very, very long time. I had to take a moment to write a review, which I normally never do. I have been so happy with my hair and color (thank you Joi!) that I wanted to give credit where it is due. I came in looking for a change and Joi listened to what I was looking for and I left looking and feeling great. What I was not expecting was that 3 weeks later I am still absolutely loving the cut and color and find it so easy to style myself. The layers added and dimensions of color completely changed my look and are so easy to work with. In the past, I only had a good hair day when I took a lot of effort and got lucky with the humidity. When I first walked into Moshi Moshi, my immediate thought was : "Whoa. I'm not cool enough for this party." But I WAS! The staff made me feel totally comfortable. Amber is a magician. She's funny, cool, and very thorough in getting the style just right. She explained all my options, then proceeded to tackle my very long, thick, tangle-prone hair. I should say that past stylists have become very frustrated by my hair. But this experience was a breeze. Color and painted on highlights came out fantastic. Great haircuts. I love my long bob. It was chic and easy! I told her that I don't blow dry and somehow she figured out how to make it "work" for my level of maintenance. This review is purely based on waxing--- I have never gotten my hair cut here, although I would like to give it a try. Just don't know who to go to. But about the waxing--- I come here to get my eyebrows waxed and I think it's the best place within walking distance of UNC. The lady (I forget her name) is very careful and does a great job, unlike a man I went to at a haircutting place closer to campus! (Yes, I discriminate against male waxers.) Furthermore, the prices are very reasonable which is great. They have an online appointment system which is very easy, so no reason not to try it out! read more

I just got my hair cut from veery long to quite short. Moshi Moshi helped me the whole way. On the phone I mentioned that I had long, curly hair, and they asked me to send a picture so that they could get an idea of the texture and what it looks like when dry (and whether to do a dry cut). At my appointment, Glo was so wonderful. She cut conservatively at first and then we let the hair dry and took some more off--a very important process for cutting curly hair. I am super happy with my new 'do, and I certainly recommend Moshi Moshi for anyone with curly hair. read more

This was my first time visiting Moshi Moshi and I had an INCREDIBLE experience. I had waist-length hair for 9 years but decided it was time for a change and that I wanted to donate it to Pantene. The receptionist was very helpful when I called and set me up with a stylist who had experience with long cuts, Amber. The salon itself was very cute, modern and trendy. Amber was AWESOME. I was super nervous at first to part with my long hair but she listened to all of my concerns and was very responsive to all of my questions. She gave me an amazing cut that was spot-on to the pictures I brought in and was funny and understanding throughout (even when I was in shock mid-cut). It wasn't the most glamorous salon I have ever been to, but the Japanese decorations were cute, and my stylist did a good job. End result: I am very happy. Great place, highly highly recommend it, ask for Julie! Until I moved earlier this month I was making regular 6-week trips to Moshi Moshi for cuts from Julie. I can't say enough great things about her. After my initial (and somewhat emergency) visit to the salon I switched to Julie because I loved her hair, and it was basically the cut I wanted -- which she accomplished, no sweat. Then a few months later when I decided to grow my hair back out, she explained not only what she would do during that visit, but what the future steps would be to help me achieve my goals. She answers questions but doesn't chat your ear off, suggests products but doesn't push them. All awesome things. And when I said I was moving out of state and didn't know how to find another great stylist, she had tons of tips (but still made me feel like a valued customer even though it was my last cut with her). And the receptionist (Molly, I think?) always greeted me by name. Catlin gets me, she gets my hair and has great suggestions as to how bring out the best in it while fitting it to my busy life. Meaning she understands that I don't have the time or want to spend two hours in a salon chair every 6-8 weeks getting my hair cut and colored. Moshi Moshi Chapel Hill is a funky little gem in a great location. I always leave early to allow ample parking time; as the streets are metered and student traffic almost always is a factor. I have loved every visit; the Moshettes have never been more than two minutes late and even that has happened maybe twice out of dozens of visits. Both Mary and Jess are my beloved stylists of choice, they cut awesome hair and bangs as well as finish off with a fabulous blow out that makes you wish you ran into an ex-boyfriend. The team is lively and easy to talk to. I always enjoy the laughs and banter about the latest great book or movie and what needs to be added to the Netflix queue. I was hesitant as a relative newcomer to the Triangle area, but after reading enough positive reviews about Moshi Moshi, I booked an appointment and never looked back.
