I went here after being referred and I'm so glad I did. They were friendly, reasonably priced, and explained what was going on with my car. I took my car to another mechanic who said I need to replace my water pump and was charging almost $1500. I called them to get a quote and it was under $1000. When I took my car to see them they told me I actually don't need a water pump replacement and explained why the last mechanic thought I did. What I did need was my thermostat replaced. They replaced that and showed me the old one verse the new one and what it was supposed to look like. Getting the thermostat changed was much cheaper then the water pump so I paid much less than expected plus I really like that they showed me the old part so I could visually see what was going on. For me they are worth the drive from Oceanside and I will be going there from now on. read more

I've gone to MOTEC multiple times for a variety of issues (clutch/transmission, radiator/thermostat, etc) and have left very happy each time. Overall, great value and great service. Adolfo is very professional and courteous, as is the staff. He's gone out of his way to accommodate a few of my requests, fit me on the schedule, and complete work in fewer days. There is a high level of transparency (taking photographs and showing customer parts), which I appreciate. The labor rates are very competitive and they have lots of parts readily available, though their stock parts I can often find cheaper. They do accept customer parts, which is huge as I like to choose and know what's going into my car. They'll do due diligence (and then some) inspecting what's going on and have always found recommendations for additional work without being pushy; I've perceived it as taking complete care of every car that comes in as if it were there own, not just looking for more ways to bring in work. I've found the service, prices and offers to be very fair, and the quality and cleanliness of the work to be very high. read more

I could write a very scathing review, but I don't see the point in doing so as I do not believe Motec is at fault. I am writing this review to share my personal experience with Wraps Motorsport, which may have some affiliation or connection with Motec. I have been dealing with an ongoing issue with this company since October '23 and have received no resolution. Short back story, I was referred to Motec from another body shop to get a quote on a repaint job on my hood and roof due to minimum oxidation on the paint. After meeting with Andrea, the customer rep, she promised to take care of my car and even suggested blackout chrome work (black wrap over chrome) and minor repair on the side panel. I received a quote for $5200, which I thought was a bit pricey but with a lot of reassurance from Andrea, I decided to pull the financial plug and agreed to the work. Please note, the first red flag I should have noticed was the quote itself. I received a quote from Wraps Motorsport rather than from Motec. Not sure on the connection or affiliation. Still didn't think too much about it and thought my car was in good hands. Well, two wrap jobs, three roof repaint jobs, and two hood repaint jobs later, the service and goods I paid for have still not been met. Promises were made but not delivered. Gio, the owner of Wraps Motorsport apologized over and over again when I first brought up my concerns and major issues on the paint and wrap job and promised to make things right. I could go on for hours on everything I've been dealing with but wanted to save you the trouble and want to just highlight all the major issues I've encountered in the last four months and counting... Final result: I already notice the wrap on my front bumper, back bumper, door handle and Toyota logos are already peeling and chrome is exposed. Also, they didn't finish wrapping my Limited signs on my 4Runner. My hood and roof had to be repainted multiple times and I had to bring my car in during four separate occasions for them to "fix" all the ongoing issues. I reached out to Andrea and Gio multiple times via text, phone call, and through email and I've been ignored. They demanded full payment the first time I picked up my car even after bringing up all the issues and the incomplete work done. They once again tried to reassure me and promised to fix all the problems once I brought my car back. Well, during scheduled pick up times, I've encountered several times when Gio contacted me and told me my car wasn't ready. Also, upon arriving at the shop, I immediately noticed the job wasn't complete, either wrap wasn't completed or ceramic coating not done yet. They also offered free headlight cleaning and it took three drop off attempts for me to keep reminding them on the headlight before they decided to clean it. I've made several attempts to reach out for them to send me an updated invoice for all service done to my car as well as partial refund. No response or resolution yet. Overall, I am unhappy with the work and lack of customer service, lack of communication, lack of transparency, inexperience workers, unkept promises, my list goes on and on. I am not trying to be a difficult customer, but I think for someone who paid the business $5K+ for service that has not been met or compete yet, a courtesy call or a promise to make things right moving forward is warranted by the company. I will send an update if I receive a response from the company. Word of advice, do your research and make sure to get everything in writing. My honest opinion for now is that I highly do not recommend Wraps Motorsport/Motec. I've attached some pics as reference. read more

We've been taking our 1999 Saturn to Motec Auto Care since 2016 and they've been doing a fantastic job keeping our car running (and their prices are much more affordable than the Chevrolet dealership I was taking it to after Saturn went out of business). A couple of weeks ago the car failed the smog emissions test for the first time (hydrocarbons: 205 PPM at 15 mph; nitrous oxide: 348 PPM). Motec replaced the spark plugs, air filter, then did an unoffical smog check to see if it would pass. It did not. They figured out the car needed a new catalytic converter and replaced it. We accepted their offer to do the official smog test at a business next door and this time it passed (hydrocarbons: 19 PPM at 15 mph and nitrous oxide = 0 PPM). They had the old catalytic converter and parts lying on the floor when we arrived and took the time to show us the old parts and explain what was wrong with the car and what they did to fix it. We like them and trust them so much, we prefer taking our old '99 Saturn (166,059 miles) to Motec to fix instead of buying a new car. read more

I used to be transportation manager for an oil company, operating tankers out of six big terminals in the West. I am, by nature, careful who I let touch my Lexus. So, when I inspected Motec's facility and discussed my problem with their personnel I knew they were conversant with my machine. They not only fixed the problem but suggested how I could save money the next time I had my car smogged. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending the place to a close friend or family member. The waiting area is huge, kept in spotless condition and the restrooms are immaculate - very important to me in this day of deadly pathogens I note that someone complained about an employee "Joe". You might want to check, but I didn't meet anyone with that description in my recent half a dozen visits to Motec. I believe the customer is king there. I brought two vehicles in and they got me taken care of. The first was a BMW 328i and they performed a oil change and brake flush on it. The second was a rav4 with a steering issue/ clunking noise. They were able to quickly diagnose the issue and get my squared away. It turned out to be a worn out bushing on my lower control arm. They ordered the parts, got it fixed up, and aligned the car. Both cars took a total of 4 hours. Raul was incredibly helpful and friendly. Place is a scam. Dont go here. They will quote you a price and upcharge you when you go to pick up your car. They ended up not being able to complete a service I asked for, and charged me for it anyway. The manager Joe was very rude about it, he talks over you, and doesn't admit to any mistakes. Poor service, none existant communication and very unorganized too. They gave me someone else's paperwork when I went to pick up my car. Their price is also not cheaper than others. By airing this out hopefully I save someone the headache that going to motec caused me. Took my sprinter in because it was throwing the cam/crank sensor code, they didn't know which one it was so they replaced both which I was fine with, the service was quick and I was back on the road. Some months later i'm in the middle of utah and the van is having the same no-start problem, having just replaced both sensors that commonly cause the issue, I guessed that maybe i got some bad diesel and it gelled, i got a ride to the nearest auto part store (wasn't near at all) for a fuel filter and 911 additive and then back to the van for roadside maintenance, no success, after several jump pack rounds and a day & night full of agony I got the van to start with the timing all wacked out and got it to a reputable shop in Co where we found that the brand new sensors i paid motec to replace we're in fact not new and were from who knows where because the part numbers were ground off, not worn off, physically ground off intentionally with a dremel or something. Motec was kind enough to repay me half of the bill for which i paid them, which i'm grateful for but it doesn't begin to cover the time/ money spent on tow/ roadside/ to Co and lost income from not making it to work. All of this could have been avoided if i'd had motec show me the parts they were installing beforehand to ensure the quality, you wouldn't think that should be necessary, but if you do it might help you avoid the hell they put me into. Just an oil/filter change I made an appointment for an early morning oil/filter change and was greeted and treated very cordially by their Operations Manager Raul. They took my car right into their bay and within about an hour I was out of there. Overall a very pleasant and hassle free experience for me! I was surprised to learn that Debbie was no longer running the MOTEC Autocare business and these new owners have redone the front office area and they even have a pool table in there now as well as a flat screen TV to help you pass your time while waiting for your car to get serviced. i love motec very honest and upfront and do great courtesy work. i took my 98 crown vic in for an oil change and it's not necessarily the cheapest ever but getting my car worked on by people who know what they're doing is worth the extra $10 or $15. they do a full inspection and even filled my wiper fluid which was awesome! i love leaving hearing that my car is in good shape it is a huge relief off my back. only thing is request them to keep the keys up at the desk. they left my keys in my ignition outside w the windows down n that was horrifying because i got to the shop 30m after they told me my car was ready. risk of dead battery or car theft. avoidable on both ends tho read more

Wonderful service here. My wife AC was blowing hot air so I stopped by Motec to have it fixed. I booked the appointment on Saturday night and someone texted me back for confirmation right away for the following Monday. I arrived Monday and Nick helped me with inspection. He could just send me away right away within 15 minutes since they didn't have the newer refrigerant; however he took his time to explained the issue and wrote a detail diagnosis invoice so I can bring it to the dealership to get my condenser fix plus AC recharge. The inspection was $130 but Nick didn't charge me for it. He also was spot on with the repair and recharge price so I wasn't too surprise with the dealer estimation. I took my Nissan XTERRA in Monday for noisy brakes, they did the front brakes, rotors, checked the rears, rotated tires and changed the oil. I took my '07 MINI Cooper to MOTEC because one of the local MINI dealerships (MoE) had told me that I needed the front and rear brake rotors and pads replaced. Debbie, the owner (who I know from the West Coast MINI club), quoted me a much better price and described the different parts that she would use (German Zimmerman rotors rather than the MINI-branded ones). When John, the service tech, was able to look at the car, he and Debbie told me that any brake work was premature. The pads were still at 6mm and they didn't recommend replacement until they got down to 3mm. So, we moved onto the next issue: the primary oil feed pipe for the turbo (it was leaking a lot of oil). They replaced the pipe (using a MINI-branded part) for less cost than the dealership. They also cleaned up all of the oil that had been leaking. John showed me the old pipe and we even opened up the bonnet and looked at the new pipe and turbo. I was very impressed. I came away with two qualities for MOTEC: honesty and thoroughness. Debbie isn't going to suggest work that your car won't need. John will be thorough as he works on your car. Highly recommended. read more
