This place is pretty much a dump The pros: Affordable. Well, it was $200 a night which was about $300 a night cheaper than anything else in town It's location isn't terrible. We were able to walk to the brewery down the road, Walmart, and Antonio's pizza up the street. We didn't have a car. We utilized the public transit or Uber to get to the main areas. There's a bus station outside the hotel that takes you straight to the main drag for $2 and roughly 10 minutes. The cons: Everything. It's definitely not clean. I felt gross walking on the floor. The towels and sheets are paper thin Check in is 3pm. I arrived at 3:15 and was told I couldn't check in yet. I said "oh the reservation said 3pm" and the lady said "oh. Okay here's your keys" so that was a really odd interaction The room was paid for online through the motel 6 website. When we left for dinner and returned we were asked to pay cash for the room?? Really confusing because we paid in full. I showed the lady the email saying we've paid in full. She told us to check back tomorrow that the credit card machine was down. Still unsure what this whole interaction was about. It's pretty evident some people live here full time. You see them walk in with Walmart carts with a months worth of food. It can get pretty loud with music and kids running down the hall. To sum up. This wasn't our first 20 choices. But it was the only option under $500 a night. read more

The motel is a disaster. Room was dirty, no bedsheets, no AC on a 95 degree night. There was foul smell of smoke everywhere. Dogs were barking in several rooms with people screaming. We paid and immediately asked for a refund. the person at the front desk told my wife that there was a no refund policy after 25 minutes. We were there tops ten. ano woman came in and asked for a refund for the same reasons. But the man at the front desk told me wife she would not get a refund and told her to get off the property. The door could not be opened with the electronic key, only by a physical master key, so guests were not free to come and go, which was bizarre. This happened because a fuse blew earlier in the day, but that's still unacceptable--rewire the hotel so that doesn't happen, and have an electrician on call. The tub water ran very brown. The room was generally clean, maybe some hairs left around, but trash taken out and not filthy. There's enough parking. There was one person working and a lot of people checking in and the key issue and various other issues so the service was slow. read more

This is a no frills budget motel. It is clean with laminated floors. It is safe in a busy shopping center outside the Newport Naval Station. It is well managed by a friendly staff. All the inflammatory reviews are written by people who have nothing better to do. There are no bed bugs or criminals. Yes it is pet friendly and there are kids running around like every other motel in the world. It is a functional motel. Fridges and microwaves have limited availability and cost extra. No little bottles of shampoo. Go next door to Wal-Mart and buy your own and save over the other motels in the area. All motels built on a slab can be damp. This motel manages it better than comparable motels. Remember Newport is a town where you can easily pay $500 a night for an average hotel room. read more

5 stars? Yes. I enjoyed my stay here. Listen, its a motel 6, and it's the cheapest option in newport. if you wanted classy, then head down the hill and drop $500 a night. The staff was amazing, Naritza and Sarah were so friendly, down to earth, and more than accomodating to myself and my family's needs. They made sure to give me a room during early check in, and Sarah stopped what she was doing to clean our room first. I think because she was cleaning other rooms, but since Naritza (who works front desk), asked if she can clean a room for us, she made it happen. this was awesome and showed how much of a team player she was. the room was on the bottom floor, and towards the front of the building. room was clean, had everything we needed. i think it seemed modern enough. sadly, no fridge. make sure to bring a cooler with ice. great shower pressure, but the shower takes forever to drain out. the AC worked very very well, just had a weird smell at first. kinda musky, but we did come in july. Our sheets and bed were fine. comfy just enough for us! easy check in and out. the safety of the hotel felt fine to us. i did see people grilling out back on one side of the hotel, im not sure what that was about lol... the hotel itself is bare bones and basic, it absolutely needs to be cleaned better...it just needs some love and maybe a weekend where the hallways and waiting area are scrubbed and sprayed better. the location is great because theres a winery, brwery, and diner within walkin distance. in the parking lot next door there is a mall with a shopping center, fast food, and supermarket. you are 5 min drive from the beach. cant go wrong here! read more

You know those commercials for the Holiday Inn Express where people show that they're good at something and they brag how smart they were for staying there? The Motel 6 version is when after you make mistakes in your life, after staying there, you can just say, "Well, I stayed at a Motel 6 the other day.". Their slogan should be, "Motel 6, you only make that mistake once.". And their signature fragrance smells like regret. I can not describe in words how terrible our stay was. This was the state of our room upon arrival: - Our room (and the entire hotel) reeked of smoke - Sticky film in floors and bureau - Stains on the ceiling and wall that looks like vomit - Dirty towels hanging on the walls in the bathroom - Grease stains around the light switches and on the mirror - Holes in the wall and broken shower head - Security lock was broken - Dirty air conditioner that barely worked The entire experience was horrendous. I hate seeming dramatic, but this was honestly one of the worst travel experiences we've ever had. And I've experienced some pretty bad ones before. We used Booking.com to request a room, and steeply overpaid ($289 versus the normal ~100), since not much was available that day. Sure, fine. But the front desk woman treated us with utter disrespect and contempt when she informed us "there are no rooms available" and "our reservation doesn't exist" despite our physically showing her the confirmation email or other documents. When we begged and pleaded, and even noticed one other gentleman who was being denied a room, she refused to help and kept asking us to get out. We tried phoning the booking website, to no avail, and at that point, she got more aggressive and acted as though we had no reason to be shocked or surprised, that this was all perfectly normal. I've been a service worker a lot of my life, so I don't like trashing them, but this woman honestly has no place at all to be working in customer service. Fumigate the entire PLACE! . The room was not what I was expecting, I was in room 105 and after taking a shower unplugging their hairdryer and plugging mine in, I noticed cockroaches coming from the the outlet and then I noticed a few cockroaches running on the bathroom floor I was in complete shock/panic because I've never had a situation like this before. The woman at the front desk was nice It was fro but denied knowing about any bugs? She wanted proof, then was not surprised . The maintenance man Joe is amazing extremely friendly and very helpful. I went down to the front desk to let the woman know, and she offered me a different room, room 109 and after getting up in the morning and brushing my teeth, I noticed the bathroom also had dead cockroaches in the bathroom. I went down there and showed her that she did in fact have bugs I would not recommend staying at the Motel 6. it is infested with cockroaches. This is the worst, filthiest , most disgusting place I've ever stayed. Stinks of cigarettes. I asked for an extra blanket. when it was brought to me it smelled and had a French fry stuck to it. My husband on MIL chose this hotel bc it was budget friendly, close to the wharfs, and we were only staying 1 night. I thought "how bad could it be?" I would avoid it at all costs. The rooms were recently renovated...that's the only plus. Bare bones. No shampoo or anything like usual travel essentials that should have been in the room. My husbands and my room had a tv...but it was off the wall...like it had fallen off the bracket and they just leaned in there. Parking was VERY sketchy. And there was a family who was obviously living there with screaming children running up and down the halls. The bed only had a sheet on it with 3 paper thin pillows. Not worth the price...at all. Absolutely horrible experience. Room wasn't ready when we arrived at 3:30pm. The whole place reeks of cigarette smoke. The room had paint splotches and unfinished holes in the wall. The bedside plugs and lamps just didn't work at all. BUT the one saving grace was our housekeeper - a blonde curly haired white lady. She let us into the room while she cleaned and helped us in our frantic rush to get ready for a wedding by bringing us safety pins and fabric tape and even cleaned the makeup brushes. Being a Motel 6, you'd except it to be bad. This Mote 6 is the worst though. I got a non-smoke room and found a cigarette burn in the sheets, and the whole building smells like cigarette. The AC doesn't even work, and there was a poop stain in the toilet upon checking in. There's random marks in the wall where something was but has since been moved/removed, the floors are covered in filth, and you can't even shower because there's no light when the shower curtain is closed. There's also random loud sounds coming from the hallways. Would not recommend. read more

Arrived at motel and was there less than 10 minutes. The card didn't work upon first attempt so needed to walk back to the concierge desk to request another key. When finally entered room, the "non-smoking" room wreaked of smoke, the bedding was stained brown on both beds, curtains had moth holes, all giving doubts to sanitation and adherence to cleaning regulations due to COVID19. The other member of my party is allergic/intolerant to cigarette smoke so after surveying we immediately went to checkout, ask for a refund, and seek other accommodations. In expressing the concerns and issues, the middle-aged female manager who clearly needed some a shower declared she would not do anything about it. She said I can cancel but will need to pay a cancelation fee to booking of 50% because we were there for 15minutes and they require notification to cancel after checking in within ten minutes. I asked her for a printed receipt showing the time checked in versus when I requested to leave due to the room. She said she would not provide that and is not required to. She told me to contact booking. She wouldn't offer a receipt if Checkin either or any paperwork that would substantiate my complaint. read more

The room I stayed in had a huge puddle of water on the floor when I returned from a brief outing, and the front desk's version of fixing the issue was handing me a couple of bath towels. I still have no idea what caused the puddle! No sense of hospitality to be found. Staff acted like guests were a complete afterthought. This was an extreme rip-off for the cost per night, and an unsafe-feeling place to stay in general. I highly, highly recommend that you stay somewhere else. read more

We checked in at 4:30, well past the 3 pm arrival only to be told that the king bed room we had reserved wasn't cleaned yet but that we could have a twin double for no extra money. Seems to me that if you know guests are coming with reservations you would have those rooms ready. Not having any other choice we took the room that was offered. In that room one of the bed comforters was stained. We told the front desk and were told it would be changed, then we went to dinner. While leaving we heard another guest being told there was no clean king bed room. After dinner we went back and asked about leaving but we're shown the lobby sign that says you have to complain within fifteen minutes of check in. I'm guessing this happens a lot. The staff said they checked our room and that nothing was dirty but offered us a switch (still no king) which we took. When we went for our bags the stained comforter was still on the bed. About half an hour later, around 10 pm, we were going through the lobby and they gave a walk-in guest a king room! read more

We were on the second floor and stayed for a few days. Our towels were replaced but the beds weren't made or sheets replaced. When we first got to the room, I pulled the sheets back and checked the bathroom. They were clean. The room did have a funny smell...but not where I wanted to run out and scream. Not sure what the smell was...motel maybe? Anyways, all we were looking for was a clean place to stay before we stopped off a family member for NAPS. Reserved my room online for one night. For ~60 bucks you just can't beat that. Their renovated rooms with hardwood floor and nice clean bathroom make the stay very comfortable and homy. I REALLY do not understand why people think staying at Motel6 is like a disgrace. The facility, the renovated ones of course, is just golden, considering the price you are paying for. I would never spend $200 for a room that I don't spend much time in, furnished with furniture that I won't even land my rear on. The absolute best part of Motel6 is that it's PET FRIENDLY!!! When we stay at a Motel 6, we don't expect fancy or anything above basic, but this Motel 6 was disappointing with even our low expectations. From the promotional pics and the fact that it is in Newport, Rhode Island, we thought it would be worth the premium price, which is more than we would normally pay for a Motel 6. Driving in from the street, we noticed the trash strewn around the lawn in front, the Motel 6 sign flaking paint, and the dirty messy office with no one attending the check-in desk. I had to wander around the halls to find someone to help me. Parking in the back of the building, it appeared to us this Motel 6 was being used for institutional housing--perhaps for families in need, or people in recovery. We have nothing against people needing help, but we were kept awake by children and teenagers playing loudly in the hallways and shouting--even after we complained to the desk. The hallways and outside areas were filthy and smelled like smoke. There was old furniture in the parking lot. Though it was clean enough, our room looked nothing like the advertising pic on-line. The curtains were dirty and falling down. There were several damaged and unpainted spots on the walls. The toilet didn't flush right, the furniture was old and damaged, the towels were clean but damp. There was no attempt at decoration like artwork on the walls. It really did feel institutional. Not the best experience, first when we checked in our bedding felt damp. We thought it just wasn't fully dried, as the evening went on the floor started feeling wet. I woke up at 2am and our floor was completely wet. We put all the towels down and drenched them. The ceiling was damp. I told them in the morning and they switched my room right away. Second room is slightly better, but still has a water problem. They acted as if it was the first they heard of this but, I later noticed rooms open with fans blowing. Never again. This was the cheapest stay in Newport for our overnight stay. My husband and I paid $67, which included tax. Very basic, but also very scary. We checked in at night, after spending several hours at the Wharf. It isn't that far from the Wharf and was conveniently located. Generally I'm not very picky if I'm renting a room just to sleep and shower. But this took the cake. The room felt like I'd walked into a prison, it was so cold and empty. Bed linens had stains. The motel stunk and was gritty throughout. All night long we heard teenagers fighting and carrying on in the parking lot next door. I kept checking on my car because I was certain it was going to get broken into (thankfully it didn't). The bed was extremely uncomfortable. There is absolutely nothing good to say about this place. I'm just happy that we didn't see cockroaches or bedbugs. Cheap doesn't have to equate dirty. This Motel 6 doesn't try at all! read more

For $200 a night, you get to walk through halls covered in dog fur and trash that reek of urine and cigarette smoke. Our first room (before we switched to another) had beds made up- but on the never cleaned sheets were pubic hair and stains. The floor was sticky and never vacuumed, it even had a piece of chewed gum. The towels were used, the tub had sand in it. The most disgusting place I've ever stayed in. For $200 a night!! (Which receptionist charged us for twice.. claiming it was a mistake) When we changed rooms, we got a room with clean sheets... still smelled like urine and everything is just sticky and dirty.
