Reading through the other reviews, it seems as though our experience was pretty much on par for the course. We were assigned room 246 and the smell of smoke was incredibly bad despite it being a non-smoking room. They weren't able to switch us out because all other rooms were booked so we had to stay there for two nights. They replaced our AC filter and sprayed the room with Glade spray and told us that would fix the problem... which it didn't. Our third night they finally switched us to a new room. It smelled way better in contrast to the other room but by the time the door was closed a bit, it was clear that people had been smoking in this room as well. Thankfully it was tolerable but not great. The people that hang around this place our shady. Clearly people are doing business through this place. We had a random junkie come to our door asking for some guy. The one star is for the location. It is walking distance from Lagunitas which is awesome. OK, the room was 50 bucks, so I guess you get what you pay for. The room was fine, but the water pressure in the sink was nil, while the shower had riot-control level pressure. Definitely go to the front lobby for coffee in the morning. What's that taste? The worst coffee in the world, that's what! Now, no matter where you go in the world, when you get served terrible coffee, you can reflect on Motel 6 coffee and realize you have it pretty good. read more

The smart-ass treatment that I got from a few of the staff members was not cool. If you have more than your paid amount of people in the hotel room at any time, they will make sure that they kick you out. I was subjected to sleeping out in the parking lot because they kicked me out and I had no other place to go. The walls are paper thin and you literally can hear the conversations of others if you quietly sit in your room and listen. The heroin junkie hotel room that I stayed at in Oregon last year was better than this piece of work motel. And Wi-Fi is not free? Get with the times, morons. You do realize that most people have a smart phone and can tether their connection to their wireless device in order to receive a FREE internet connection. Motel 6 Petaluma...take your "modernized", tacky renovated room and shove it up your ass, along with your $2.99 a day Wi-Fi service. YOU SUCK. read more

I am surprised at all the negative reviews. This is the best Motel 6 I've stayed in and I've stayed in a lot. This is good as a Motel 6 is going to get. It is a Motel 6 - not the Ritz. It's basic and inexpensive. You don't get free shampoo, etc. (nice they're not adding to the landfill). $3 for Wi-fi? That's nothing. The office workers were extremely polite and efficient. Our room was clean. The motel has been recently remodeled so the furnishings were nice. There's a great Japanese restaurant across the street. The Lagunitas Bewery is a block away. There are the usual fast food places down the street as well. It's a great place to stay if you are visiting Sonoma State University. read more

The one night we stayed here is enough to keep us from ever going back. The room started out nice, but the A/C was inoperable and has been for some time after reading another's review (over a month). That was just the beginning. The door didn't seal properly so there was a lot of noise in our room. We had noisy neighbors and people seemed to be coming and going at all hours of the night. Car doors slamming in the parking lot do not lend well to a good night's sleep when you can hear everything! Not sure who was walking around at 2:30 in the morning with loud high heels on, but I could probably venture a guess as nothing is open around here at that hour. The insulation between rooms seemed nonexistent as you could hear everything that was going on next door, the tv, the shower, the toilet and people arguing. The beds were definitely on the stiff side but appeared to be fairly new as well as the pillows. The water pressure in the shower was really poor and took longer than normal to rinse the soap since there wasn't much flow or pressure. The location and other guests were pretty sketchy, make sure you take ALL of your valuables into your room out of your vehicle. Heck, I was afraid my car wouldn't be there in the morning so I removed a necessary item that would prevent it from starting in case someone decided they wanted to try. No in room safe is a bummer due to the location and the insecure feeling that the other guests and area caused. The only positives I can come up with was that the room looked and felt clean. And the location was only a few minute walk to Lagunitas Tap Room which was why we chose this hotel in the first place. read more

What a horrible place. I reserved a night here using Orbitz. When I showed up, on my bike, after a 60 mile trip from Berkeley, with a credit card in hand with my photo on it, I was refused my room. Why? Because I didn't have a "government-issued ID". The snarky manager came to the front, refused my offer to have my wife fax my driver's license in, and turned on his bitchy heel and left. Would I have to ride another 60 miles back to home because the staff at this place was heartless? Fortunately not. The Best Western a couple of miles south was perfectly satisfied with the same credit card I offered the brain trust at Motel 6. If you like hearing the cleaning crew with their bins at 7 am keeping you awake because you can hear every single gawd dang noise or sleeping on Flintstone beds this is the place for you! We stayed here because it is 2 minutes walking distance from Lagunitas and a couple other brewing companies so that's worth at least two-stars, other than that you are better off spending that $100 on an Uber/taxi ride to a better hotel/motel. I know Motel 6 is not exactly known for their luxury stay, but I'm pretty sure during the negotiation process with the mattress dealer they said, "How do we keep our cost low on these beds?" The mattress dealer responded, "well....we can just put one inch of cushion on a box spring and call it a mattress." Honestly, I'm not one to write reviews but please don't stay here. To start off, our reservation was double booked so they were going to charge us for both rooms even though we only booked one online. When we arrived I was approached by a drunk man asking where to find a room number which made me nervous for whoever was staying there. Inside the room there was no fridge, microwave, coffee maker, ironing board or toiletries. There was however, plenty of hair and even what seemed to be male bodily fluid on the bed. Overall not terrible if the price would have been in the $50-60 range but for $100 it was unacceptable. read more

This place seems to have absolutely mixed reviews. We stayed here for one night in October and it was fine. There are certainly some people who are staying at the Motel 6 long-term. My guess there has to do with social housing, etc. as I know budget hotels often end up being a stopgap measure, but obviously that's just a guess. The kids playing outside weren't problematic. The rooms are modern and updated, save for the bathrooms which could use a solid overhaul. Our fitted sheet appeared to have glitter nail polish on it. It seemed otherwise clean, and I know that nail polish doesn't wash out, but that was rather noticeable so I don't know why it wasn't caught. It was also a bit dusty overall. For the most part, the room was adequate for a night's rest. The bed wasn't much comfort-wise, and to get wifi you have to go to the front desk to buy a voucher rather than just being able to pay online, but that wasn't tragic. It's not amazing, but it's fine. I've stayed in Motel 6 hotels all over the US and they are usually my default place to stay because, while they are fairly basic, if all you want is a clean quiet place to sleep, they are just as good as a fancy corporate hotel. Unfortunately this one isn't up to their normal standard. Traveling from Southern California, and many delays, with traffic. Called ahead of time, and told them, I had a late arrival time, of 4 AM. When I arrived, at 4 AM, I was greeted by Nick, the hotel clerk. He was kind, thoughtful, and treated me very well. He even offered a late check out, so I could rest. When I got to my room, the key did not work, and Nick came back, with me, to check the key, and keep me, from having to return to the office again. His customer service, was a solid 10. I called the Corporate office customer service, and got a woman, who obviously, was used to taking only complaints, and I told her, that I wanted to commend someone, and she asks for the date of the "incident"???? I really believe she did not know, how to write a positive response. Ive never given a motel/hotel a single star before. I have fairly simple requirements in a one-night stay, this Motel 6 missed on all counts. The room looked clean and the TV service was good, but it smelled like there were several people ACTIVELY SMOKING in the room. My room was a non-smoking room and so were all of the rooms around mine, I checked. It was about midnight when I checked in, the front desk (literally!) said "there is nothing we can do, sorry". I called Hotels.com, they refunded my money and I found a room at the Best Western 5 miles away. I canceled another upcoming Motel 6 booking in another city and I will never book at Motel 6 again. Honestly, I am not a big of fan of Motel 6. Never my first choice of places to stay but I when I tried to make a last minute reservation for 4th of July weekend most hotels were booked and the others were $300 a night. We just needed a place to sleep and shower so spending $300 seemed like a big waste of money. After reading the reviews my expectations were very LOW. We arrived earlier than the 3:00 pm check in time but decided to try to check in early. To my surprise, it was no problem at all. The office staff were all very professional and pleasant. They said they had a few rooms ready and we could go ahead and check in. YAY! When we got to the room I was pleasantly surprised. Our room was very clean, it looks to have been recently remodeled. No frills and no extras like shampoo & hairdryers, but I think it was just fine for the money. My husband who has stayed at many Motel 6 across the country said this was by far the nicest one he has stayed in. I would definitely stay here again. read more

As Motel 6's go, this place is the Ritz Carlton. But it still is a Motel 6. But it gets a four-star rating based on the principal: you get what you pay for. The room was pretty clean, but it had a worn look to all the same. The sheets were clean and I didn't get the feeling that was sleeping in someone else's stink. However, the towels were pretty dingy. The TV was limited to about ten stations and the wifi is available for a fee. There are some interesting characters that inhabit this place. There was a man, that I took to be homeless, pilfering the continental breakfast bar. There were a few others that looked like they were on the run or had saved their money to spend one night here and take a shower and sleep in a bed. So maybe be wary if you have kids or are a single woman. It is pretty innovative that the rooms have nice wood laminate floors instead of a carpet that will quickly become disgusting. I wouldn't come here for a honeymoon or anniversary, but if you need a cheap place to sleep, it's not a bad option. read more

We stayed here during our visit to Sonoma (wanted to save on some money since then other hotels in Sonoma was really expensive). The motel was remodeled and looks pretty nice with hardwood floor. Our stay there was pleasant. The person that checked us in at the front desk said some things that we didn't really like. He said that "yesterday must have been a full moon because there were a lot of cops here." We were going to look for another hotel but it was almost midnight so we decided to just stay here for one night. The night was uneventful with no cops...thanks goodness. read more

Typical run of the mill Motel 6. I made a reservation and my room was available when I checked in. Room was clean, but nothing special. My only real complaint was there is only a single ice machine and it's located at the front of the motel. Naturally, my room was on the polar opposite. Took a good 15-minutes of walking around before I found it. One little tip, it appears this Motel 6 places a $500 hold charge on your credit card and it takes several days to clear. Just know that your card will have to absorb that until it's released. read more

The room had a nice idea for the decor, however everything was dirty! The floors were sticky! The bathroom wasn't very clean. There was lint, and short & Curlies in the corners of the Bathroom. The sheets were stained with what looked like maybe kool-aid. The protective cover that goes over the mattress and under the fitted sheets were completely dirty and full of crumbs and other gross stuff. My family was relegated to sleeping on top of all the covers in our own blankets. We checked in at about 11:30 pm and had to be up 5am so we were pretty much stuck. We needed extra towels so I went down to the front desk to get some but they told me they don't have anymore until housekeeping shows up at 8am. So I was forced to go across the street to buy some towels at Kohl's. Tried to fall asleep but the neighbors in 209 sounded like their kids were jumping off the bed onto the wood floors which sounded like pro wrestlers jumping off the top rope!! When my daughter woke up and showered it was EXTREMELY LOUD! There's no way to describe how loud it was. Sound like an airplane taking off in the wall! INSANE!! You couldn't pay me to stay there again! If there was an option for half a star I MIGHT give em that. STAY AT YOUR OWN RISK. read more

The hotel is typical for Motel 6 which I usually am ok with. I'm writing a review to warn users that the room we had did not have any air conditioning and it was very warm for the entirety of our stay. The window opens but the blinds open on the opposite side - which means if you want fresh air to come in the entire window shade has to be open to the public. Most importantly to note is the hotel wifi. If I didn't get a refund I would have rated this hotel 1 star. While most hotels offer free wifi they charge $2.99. This is tolerable except it is broken and they don't tell you before purchasing. I was counting on using this service for work but it was completely unusable. The wifi signal breaks connection constantly, and for the brief moment it does work it is slower than dial-up. When I complained they said this is normal. I'm sorry but if they know they have broken wifi they need to not say it's available, let alone actually charge for it. read more

We stayed here on our way from San Francisco to Oregon. We booked a room that was ADA compliant. We were not disappointed. From check in to check out the staff was polite and helpful. There was ample parking right in front of the rooms for those who have placards (and for those who do not, it was a short flat walk). The room was clean and had ample space to move about. The only thing was the small fridge should have been on a cube or table to raise it up. The bathroom had a "step free" shower (meaning there is no floor barrier between shower and rest of bathroom). Which is great in theory, but means either all of the bathroom floor gets wet, or you lay a towel down to contain the water. A very low (1/4 - 1/2 inch) rounded berm would have been just as easy to get over, but would have kept the water contained. The room has wood floors, so the hotel is pet friendly, and you don't have to worry about tracking mud in if it rains. This will be one of my stops on my yearly travels to Oregon. read more

We had a three night stay there that was the worst experience we've ever had. The last night we were there, we came back to a room that had not been cleaned. The beds were unmade and the wet towels we had used earlier in the day were still in the bathroom. Towels were in rather short supply as we were only given two bath towels, one hand towel and one wash cloth for a room with two beds and two people occupying it. When I went to the office to complain, I was told that the front desk wasn't given and extra towels, and to come back in the morning. No effort to help at all. Also, the bathtub was rotting away with rust stains all over it, the the bathroom had mold in the corners where it was obviously not cleaned. There was even a sign at the pool warning about diarrhea! Not a bad place at all. Price was acceptable being a Holiday weekend and a last minute decision. The town was clean and safe enough to walk to nearby restaurants. Check in was nice, friendly staff. We checked in at 4 am because we were waiting for a baby to be born. We were charged $178 for a few hours. We asked for extra blankets. The told us they didn't have any. When we got up to shower there was only a very small 2 inch soap. NO SHAMPOO. We were told we can buy it from the vending machine. Plus the bedding smelled. We didn't want to stay here but it was the only hotel that was booked up. I think it would have been better to sleep in the car! There was music on really loud in nearby rooms which made it hard to sleep. Near the sink on the wall it looked like there was blood splattered or something dark red/brown. When i booked, i asked for a non smoking room. The room was smelling like smoke. They were fully booked so they couldn't changed the room. For this they would already deserved one star. Only reason i give three, because the staff at the front desk (Ken) was extremely nice and helpful. They changed the air filter, and gave me discount, did whatever he could. If the room would be smoke free, they would get 4 or 5 stars. The room was clean, fairly new, flat screen tv, good locations, no sketchy elements, nice pet area. I liked that is the ac is on the ceiling which is nicer then the regular one next to the bed blowing in your face. A group of 12 of us came here. Some had trouble getting to the rooms because they could not find the reservations. Next we go up to the rooms OK so their towels are very small they give you one washcloth for two people, there's no clocks in the room nor clock radios, the phone in the room has a dial tone but does not work. Also when you pay extra money to get a refrigerator in your room and then you come up to the room there is no refrigerator even though they still charge you extra for it. When you comment on that they tell you that oh yeah we're changing all the refrigerators to get new ones, well new refrigerators will probably be great but you just charged us for a refrigerator and told us we had to be on the second floor due to that, but there's no refrigerator! Next day all of us go out and enjoy our ride and the beautiful scenery and are gone for quite a few hours so when we get back we're all very tired and want to go back to our rooms to relax. Then no one can get into the rooms with their keys, no one everybody's room we are locked out of them so we have to all go down to the office to get new cards! Oh yes, only one pillow each for two people, no extras. They also do not provide shampoo in the room. No hair dryers either. Not the best stay. Very, very basic. read more

well...we got our money back in full $145..but it wasn't much of a consolation. My husband and I had to stay here on short notice for one night as kind of a layover for plans we had in the area the next day. I can't believe how expensive such crap "economy" lodging is in Petaluma! Why? We live in a affluent college town near Sacramento and the rates are lower even there and everything is expensive there!...Anyway, the issues: 1. They tried to give us a really creepy room at the back of the motel upstairs. I wasn't happy about being upstairs bc we have a small aged dog who doesn't do well on stairs. When my husband went into the office to get the key they told him that was the only room available. After climbing the old, broken down and rickety stairs, I checked the room. It smelled weird and the bed appeared to be small and flat as a cot. I was really upset at what we were getting for the price. I went down to the office myself and talked to them, and they "magically" had other rooms down stairs towards the front open..?? uhh, possible discrimination? 2.) Issues with the room: * dirty towel cubby/ brown finger prints on white cubby * filthy exhaust fan over the sink/ filter covered with dust * toilet is so low flow it looks like a port-a potty * hole punched in bathroom door * broken floor board * huge worn dip in one side of the bed/ flat horrible mattress * worn out bench cushion next to bed * too few towels/ washcloths * no microwave * SCALDING HOT WATER in tap!! I set the water on warm {in the middle} to wash my hands and nearly got a first degree burn. It was the same in the shower. * at 12 at night there were people with their kids running in and out yelling next door and my husband had to ask them to keep it down * When we woke up, exhausted the next morning, we opened the door to find the police taking a report from another guest a few rooms down. Apparently she had been robbed! Not to mention the fact that right down the street at the outlet mall, the same night we stayed, there was a shooting fatality. Needless to say, we were soooo sorry that we tried to save a few bucks and chose Motel Six. Our first AND LAST time that we'll ever stay at one again!! Like some of the sage reviews I found here AFTER our stay : " Don't waste your hard earned money".."keep looking"! This place was a literal nightmare. I've never even considered staying at a Motel 6, but my boyfriend's family insisted on it for just one night. 2 words, NEVER AGAIN! First off the shower was disgusting, the shower floor was dirty and the drain was clogged. I refused to take a shower drowning in unknown filth. My boyfriend had to drive me to a nearby gym to shower instead. The room smelled disgusting and the floor needed to be swept and mopped. There were teenagers drinking and being obnoxious all night long in the rooms next to us and through the thin walls, everything could be heard. Take my advice, stay elsewhere. read more

The manager is rude and lacks customer service skills. When I complained about his rudeness, the assistant manager told me "don't waste your time with Yelp, I can expunge all bad reviews." So then I looked up the Yelp reviews.................and they speak for themselves. For example, there is one that shows a photo of a hypodermic needle under the bed. Hey Jr. Manager, why did you not "expunge" that one? Why did you not expunge any of the other 50 dismal ratings of your hotel? Here is quote from a recent Yelp review from September 2016 " The negative demeanor of the lobby staff is a direct reflection of the motel's General Manager" I am never going to stay here again. My husband and I attended a show at The Phoenix Theater and booked a room at Motel 6 for the night. We checked in that afternoon and were told that there were only smoking rooms left, despite the fact that we had reserved a non-smoking room several days earlier. We were also told, "You might want to keep your shoes on in the room, the carpet is wet." It had just been freshly "cleaned". As you can imagine with the combination of cigarette stench and wet carpet, the room smelled horrible. Plus the window was broken and would not open more than 6 inches. Although not worth $77, the room would have to do since there were no rooms left in Petaluma at this point. We had friends from all over the Bay Area meeting up for this show, and we had them meet up at our hotel room. For a total of 45 minutes , between 6:30-7:30pm we had 6 people in our room and then we prepared to leave in a Taxi. As we waited in the parking lot for our Cab, we noticed a Motel employee acting very suspicious around the rooms below ours. I watched him put his hand on the door handle of one of the rooms and look over his shoulder, as if to see if anyone was looking. I was looking. We made eye contact for several seconds and the guy had this deer-in-the-headlights look as he looked at me. He decided not to go into the room after all, and walked around stalling. As our taxi pulled up, he went up the stairs and went into the room next to ours. We had the driver wait for a minute to see what he was doing. He came out of the room and just as our taxi was pulling out f the driveay he went into our hotel room! We were shocked! We had the driver make a U-Turn and pull back in. My husband confronted the man who had immediately left the room after the taxi turned around, and was all the way around the building. The man said, "I don't know, she just told me to go in there." My husband requested that they speak with management together. We went into the office and were told by management that there had been "several" complaints about noise coming from our room and that they were investigating the complaint. She claimed that she had attempted to call our room several times and got no answer. I had been in the room the entire time since we checked in and there the phone had not rang once. We asked them why the employee had not said anything to us while waiting for our taxi, instead of waiting until we drove out of the parking lot before going in the room. She said, very sarcastically, "Are you wearing a sign that says what room you are in?" No we weren't. But my husband had stood outside of the room and spoke with the man earlier in the afternoon, asking questions about where the theater was located. The manager immediately told us she would be giving us a full refund and that we would not be staying in the room anymore. By that time we did not feel safe staying in the room anyway, wondering whether or not our posessions would be safe there. I have never been treated as badly as I was at this Motel and I will never be returning there. I have already contacted corporate and am waiting for a reply so I can file a formal complaint. read more

Unbelievable!!! Worse than the cheapest Tenderloin dump & DANGEROUS in many ways-key Never worked (had to go to office 5 times!) was on far end & having to walk length of facility late night with sketchy "guests" just to enter room. Unable to shower due to water temp erratically scalding/cold & towels odorous. Requested ground floor upon reserving room (I have polio), assured I'd have such & none available upon arrival......was told 24 hour coffee in office, out of coffee/creamer at 10am Saturday am. Building walkway/stairs so worn & rickety & dry rot it appears it could collapse any time. When I told manager on duty the safety hazard of shower he shrugged like he's heard multiple complaints endlessly & not at all concerned, I am surprised a national corporation would allow this danger- den carry their name. Am reporting this facility as unsafe so some poor soul showering doesn't get 3rd-degree burns while showering......manager certainly wasn't concerned on safety of guests as well as basic decent services as advertised.
