What a lovely place to stay! I fell in love with this adorable hotel. Super cute, decor is french inspired, very whimsical with darling arts, crafts and pictures hung up on walls and unexpected places. Soo loved my stay here, my room was upstairs, loved the wood floor, the bed was so inviting and fluffed with such pretty comforter and incredibly comfortable. The bathroom was very clean, nice clean towels and a thoughtful black small towel for makeup so guests don't ruin the white towels. The entire place was unbelievably clean and the complementary breakfast was superb. We had a delicious strawberry and banana crepe with whip cream and Nutella, hard boiled eggs and the slow drip coffee was such a cute touch. I didn't know what to do and the nice lady behind the counter was kind enough to show me. There is plenty of seating inside as there are outside. Just the cutest place in the back with bicycles lined up on the side, red and blue tables and chairs with umbrellas. Would love to come back and stay here for a few days. Checked in on a Friday around 5:00pm. This hotel is a little difficult to navigate as the parking lot entrance is on the side with parking behind the building. There is street parking in front if available. The front door was locked so we needed to call the phone number for the door code to enter in order to check in. The host (Cody?) was super friendly and checked us in quickly and even escorted us to our room. The door lock was a little tricky. The handle locked the door for the outside and the dead bolt locked the door for the inside. The room is very spacious. The bed was comfortable and we had a nice night sleep. The bathroom has a clawfoot tub with a shower enclosure. The tv internet kept blipping on and off. It was also kinda strange that there were charges for the coffee pod, tea bags. Charges for the beer and other alcohol is understandable but I'm concerned that I may be charged for things I did not use. : / Felt that I needed to take pictures to have proof that I didn't use something. This was an enjoyable stay in a quirky nicely decorated hotel. Four stars for the extra charges and the issue with the door lock. read more

I am still speechless over this hidden gem I found in Petaluma. Not Napa, not SF,but yes in Petaluma! From the affordability, to the unique creativity of the Parisian them. This place is special. I was torn between selecting a room in the hotel or one of 3 Airstream units. I am glad that I selected a room . We were given a large two bedroom suite upstairs at the top of the staircase. Although we don't have small children that particular room would be perfect for a family wirh 2 children. The room was clean, the large bed comfortable and a huge 65+ TV with Prime was on the wall. We didn't partake in the $10 per person breakfast but it looked nice . The location is easily walkable to many nice restaurants and bars in the downtown area. Complimentary on street parking or in a nearby lot was available. . The service upon check-in was friendly and the hostess showed us around, walked us to our room and explained the amenities of the room and property. This hotel has an extensive French artwork, collection as well as maintaining the charm and character in every space that you see. I didn't take pictures of the decor as its something you have to experience in person. I highly recommend this stylish and quirky French styled hotel in downtown Petaluma California. read more

I had a very disappointing experience dealing with the owner of Metro Hotel & Cafe. They advertised a Miele steam iron on Facebook Marketplace and made it sound like it was in good working condition, mentioning only minor cosmetic issues. No major problems were disclosed. I drove over an hour to see the machine in person. When I arrived, I noticed it was missing a wheel, covered with tape, and hard to power on. I asked if we could remove the tape to check inside, but the owner told me to take it home and promised that everything worked. I trusted their word and didn't expect a business owner to misrepresent the condition. During payment, the owner's wife became upset because she felt the item was being sold too cheaply. Once I got home and removed the tape, the machine literally fell apart. It was obvious this was not just a cosmetic issue. I immediately contacted them and said I needed to return it. They resisted accepting the return. When I brought it back, their own staff told me the machine was not working. The owner quickly took it away and stated they would only refund 50%, saying that because I had agreed to buy it, this was their policy. They also asked me to step outside to discuss the matter so the employees wouldn't hear. I paid using their hotel Zelle account and received only a 50% refund through the same account, so I have records of the transaction. In the end, I lost half of my money, over four hours of driving, FastTrak fees, and gained a very costly lesson. I never wanted to leave a review like this, but I feel it's important to share my experience so others can be more careful. Please don't learn the hard way like I did. Thank you for reading. Greeted and got an upgrade by a friendly concierge who also gave us a quick tour of our room. Bedding was wonderful from sheets to duvet- Serena and Lilly. Claw foot old school tub. Bathroom sink could use more counter space. An actual key to room door and not a card. For 5$ person, you get complementary crepes, Joshua tree dark roast coffee, and pastries for breakfast from 8-10am. Beware of very narrow staircase, wood floors are squeaky hence so many rugs so walk with caution. Came here for a quick spontaneous birthday to celebrate by 46th with my love. I found this little, Parisian, Petaluma gem on accident. It stands out in the street with a red front and welcoming entrance. It's like staying in a hotel museum, with artifacts from France, French radio playing inside, posters of France, red accents in curtains and furniture. It's a blast! It looks to be in a old Victorian boarding house. The hotel has been here for 20 years. They serve breakfast with crepes and pastries, guests have access to ice, hot water and microwave in the kitchen 24/7, and there's a gas fire pit outside in a sweet garden setting. Oh, and don't forget there are also bicycles to rent. Fun! read more

Cute older hotel with a French theme! The rooms were very clean, the beds were really comfortable, the cottage was perfect for a gathering place for myself and 5 girlfriends. The bedrooms and bathroom in the cottage are all upstairs, and they were very accommodating when we realized on arrival that we needed ground floor rooms for two of us. The staff were all very friendly. Breakfast buffet (pound cake & fruit crepes you assemble yourself) was okay, and free coffee was plentiful. It's older so expect some areas that need a bit of repair but that is part of its charm! read more

What a cute and whimsical place to lay my head at night.....well actually a couple months ago but hey who's counting. Whilst planning a trip to Point Reyes I stumbled upon this hotel and read the online reviews stating that this place was a "must stay," so I booked a room and headed out. As I arrived I was immediately excited to see the detail put into transforming this into a French setting. All the trinkets were adorable. The rooms were cozy and the staff was friendly. I absolutely loved the old style deep tub that I ended up soaking in. The breakfast was simple yet satisfying. The kitchen staff was helpful and kind as well. The ladies know how to make some good coffee. I am thinking of booking again very soon because this place is unforgettable. read more

Another great get away in Petaluma at Metro Hotel Our previous trip to the Metro Hotel we got engaged. Recently we went through a traumatic experience and needed to get away and 'reset'. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised to know Art had upgraded us to a suite and gave us a bottle of wine! It was so cool. There was plenty of room to spread out and had a nice view out front. When checking in we were cheerfully greeted and any questions or suggestions were promptly handled by 'Colby/Coby' (sorry couldn't remember exactly, but he was awesome throughout our stay.) The breakfast ladies were great, they even had coffee ready earlier in the morning for us. Petaluma was fun to explore and we had some great meals! We will be back. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful stay recently at the Metro Hotel. It is such a cute, quaint, quirky French-themed boutique hotel. It is a few blocks off of the downtown area of Petaluma. I do wish it was in a bit closer easy walking distance, but the hotel's charm makes up for that. There are so many nice, thoughtful decor touches. Bonus- the tv was huge in our room, and I liked the smell fresh and clean smell. Our bed was nice, and the room was warm and cozy. We had skylights in the room, as well. The $5 all you can eat crepes breakfast in the morning is such a steal and was the perfect cherry on top of a superb stay. Pour-over coffee, delicious hard-boiled eggs, fresh strawberries and bananas and warm, lovely crepes. Yummm!!!! read more

Found this cute little spot since we were in town for the weekend for a wedding. The airstream was so adorable and cozy. Plenty of space in the hotel lobby to hang out. Parking was very small. At some point they were removing items from their shed and blocked one of the parking spots near our airstream but luckily in front of the hotel there was street parking. At night you have to park across the street if the front is filled up too. The person in charge of check in and check out was very nice and greeted us. You do have to call to get the code to open the front door. The bed was extra comfy. It's definitely worth the experience. I would book here again! And it was close to downtown Petaluma. We walked 10 mins vs trying to find parking over there. read more

Tries to pull off a French boutique hotel but misses the mark. The bed was surprisingly uncomfortable, and the coffee cups were dirty. Parking is quite limited. The "fully stocked" mini fridge had wine, champagne, and soda, but not a single bottle of water. Just not for me. read more

the metro hotel served as the home beacon of my weekend getaway w/ my partner and we couldn't have been more pleased w/ our experience. Making a reservation on the website was quick and simple, checking in was even simpler, and even as we were dragging our feet to the front desk the staff made checking out less painful than the fact that we had to be at work the next morning. I was excited for the breakfast in the am specifically the pour over coffee station. I am a man of routine so being hunched over some coffee grains and hot water early in the morning felt just like home. the decorations and the hotel itself were fun which made the experience a bit more unique. I was worried that since it was a french themed hotel, the staff would be forced to greet us in french or put on a coarse french accent in front of the guests but none of that here! overall fun experience, would recommend, and probably coming back (to hold a quick powerpoint on how to make pour over coffee to the guests... some of them struggled) read more

We stayed here for a weekend recently. Its a very interesting place with a lot of character. The common area inside if very busy and eclectic in a good way. The kitchen has fun crepes in the morning and guests can access the facilities at night. The outside is fun with bocce ball and a fire pit for roasting marshmallows. The staff was accommodating. We had a suite which was plenty big. It has a nice little refrigerator/freezer. The furniture and floors were extremely old. I understand that's the look but it's too much. The floors were extremely unmaintained. It's actually falling apart. Every step results in such loud creeping that it wakes people up at night. read more

Found this hotel, but the door was locked - called the posted number & the owner gave me the door code and I waited in the lobby until he got back. Anyway, hotel is quirky, charming, and has an easy pleasant feel, with French decor all about. In the morning, coffee, eggs & crepes await you. A wonderful and quirky little bite of Paris! My three friends and I stayed at the Hotel Metro for a quick holiday getaway and were utterly charmed! We stayed in Anna's Nest, and the beds were some of the most comfortable we've ever experienced. Especially the big, fluffy, cozy duvets. The crepes and coffee were a tasty, delightful treat in the morning. Our only complaint was that our heater didn't seem to be working. We couldn't get it to turn on at all. So it was rather chilly in the evening. Luckily, our cozy duvets kept us nice and toasty! We are looking forward to another visit, perhaps in the summer. Highly recommend! read more

What a quirky, unique hotel in Petaluma. The owners have filled this converted house with French knick knacks throughout of vintage posters, goose lamps, french flags, etc. Parking? Free. They have a tiny lot beside the hotel, but we grabbed parking on the street out front, too. Location? Walking distance from the downtown area, I prefer to walk to breakfast, lunch & dinner. Staff? Staff is very friendly and helpful. Gave us a tour upon check-in, but also would chit chat over breakfast or when grabbing a glass of wine. Rooms? Just a few and bathroom on the smaller side. Unique decor with a giant chalkboard and french quote on the wall behind the bed. We had a small bistro table with a wine, wine bucket & wine glasses in our room. They also have airstreams for rent. Finally, free wi-fi, breakfast (a few pastries and freshly cooked crepes) and coffee/tea. Bonus, you can grab wine in the kitchen which operates on the honor system. We spent two nights here while visiting the wine country in Sonoma. It was just the kind of place we were looking for. Small, non-chain, maybe a little quirky. It was all of those things. We had a room next to the parking lot and next to one of the Airstream trailers. It was a very large room and had the biggest TV set I've ever seen in a hotel, although we never turned it on. There was a goose lamp nightlight that certainly fit into the quirky category. The bed was large and comfortable and we didn't hear any outside noise. For being impossible to reach when booking and then trying to cancel my reservation, the owner sure was quite communicative and persistent when emailing me, more than once, to ask me to remove my negative review on yelp. (Is this not against the guidelines for Yelp??) This only cemented my bad review. The owner literally tried to guilt trip me that there was a lot going on in their lives...etc. And while I understand and have compassion as a human being, that is actually NOT on a customer to reconcile for your BUSINESS. I certainly am not able to give sob stories to my clientele when something goes wrong for their events, and if I had booked this hotel for a touring artist, I assure you, they TOO, would not care that the hotel owner was having life problems. If you take money from a person, the transaction is purely that of a business and a customer. I found it incredibly unprofessional to relentlessly contact me (especially considering the "crickets" I got when I was actually still a customer - thank God I received my full refund) with personal stories of one's life. We just stayed again at The Metro Hotel. It's probably been our 10th stay in the last 13 years, and it is literally one of our favorite hotels in the Bay Area. We stumbled upon it years ago when our son was just a toddler, and it's become a family tradition to visit once or twice a year. In summary, we can not say enough positive things about it and think it's one of the best-kept secrets in the wine country. First, the couple who own it are true Francophiles, and all the pictures and decorations are French-themed, colorful, and super cute. The main building has a wonderful cafe on the first floor, where every morning you can get complimentary coffee, and delicious crepes, fruit, muffins, and Nutella (kids love it!). There is also a piano in the lobby which can be played, there is a wonderful patio with tables and umbrellas, and a fire pit and lovely outdoor seating. In the last year, they added wonderful cruiser bikes that can be rented for $10 each and are perfect for exploring the tranquil neighborhood streets of Petaluma. The rooms are spacious, clean, well-decorated with French-themed items, and super comfortable beds. Most notable is that all of this is offered at an incredibly reasonable price (especially notable given how close the hotel is to so many wineries in Sonoma). We've stayed in many of the rooms over the years, and the one we stayed in last night was perfect, with 2 rooms (and a door that closes), so our 13-year old son as well as my wife and I could each have some privacy. There is also a wonderful house on the property called Anna's Nest, that can be rented. It has its own little front yard, 2 bedrooms upstairs, a living room and small kitchen. It gives an incredible sense of privacy. There are also several Air-Stream trailers on site which can be rented. We've not stayed in those yet but they look super charming. The hotel is in a great location, with only a 10 minute walk to downtown Petaluma where there are an incredible number of restaurants, bars, antique stores, galleries, etc. Thank you Hotel Metro, for all of the years of wonderful memories, and we look forward to many visits in the future! read more

Honestly, I was here for one night and half a day, but I loved it! It's wonderfully kitschy and charming. It has more B&B vibes with a downstairs cafe and communal kitchen & dining areas. There's an assortment of paraphernalia of marionettes, garden gnomes, French-themed home decor, etc. The person who checked us in was lovely with a friendly smile. The room was small/cozy, but we didn't need much for our one night stay. There was a great claw bath tub that I wish I could have used! The establishment is clean and well kept but feels like home. Best hotel experience I've had in a while!! This place is super cute and super cozy. The pour over coffee and crepes were amazing. My only complaints are with the following: - no phone answers before 3pm - couldn't figure out how to control the heating and air. We were shown how to use it upon check in but when the room got too warm we could not figure out how to even turn the fan on The location was perfect distance to downtown since we were bar hopping. Overall this will definitely be my go to spot when visiting Petaluma! read more

Also be prepared to mount a narrow, curved stairway for upstairs rooms. Ask about 2 twin beds vs a trundle bed. Otherwise, good people there and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. read more

This is a wonderful boutique hotel! I typically stay in chain hotels, but we just wanted to get away not too far from home and explore a small town. We chose Petaluma. This hotel got, by far, had the best reviews, and even though it was a little different than where we typically would stay, we gave it a shot. The room was adorable, and the bed was comfortable. There was a super cute outdoor "garden" with a fountain, plenty of tables with umbrellas, and an area to sit and chat. The breakfast of fresh crepes and pour-over coffee was the star. They also had high-quality loose-leaf tea for tea drinkers like myself. We were within four blocks of downtown Petaluma and spent hours exploring. To enjoy your stay, break away from the expectations of a chain motel and enjoy the experience. We loved it! read more

We stayed at Metro Hotel this past weekend and we didn't want to leave. Home away from home. It is a charming place that is very B&B-like; full of antiques and whimsical French decor accompanied by a friendly staff. I just loved all of the Francophile memorabilia everywhere, from our room to the hallway to the dining room to the cafe area. We stayed for two nights in a 1 queen room upstairs. The bed was extremely comfortable. As for the room size, I found it to be very tiny as there wasn't much of a closet but a plain wooden clothing rack to hang 4-5 coats. The seating for two was located right beneath the TV, so it drove me nuts when I sat there while my significant other watched his basketball games. However, space is limited and there was no other way to have those accommodations fit otherwise. TV options aren't luxurious; don't come to watch TV. The bathroom was also a bit of a squeeze but manageable. The claw foot tub raised some safety risks as the tub's height made getting out of the tub a bit tricky. As long as you take careful steps and have a dry mat, you should be ok. The sink was not made for washing hands comfortably; the two faucets were placed at opposite edges of the bowl instead of the conventional centered location. And like everyone says, the plumbing was unpleasant--not much water force for showers. At least we had the bubble bath to enjoy! The location is a short walk to downtown. We even rode the tandem bikes, which were very accessible. Metro even offered a list of restaurants to peruse. The breakfast items were plain muffins or pound cake, so I advise you to check out the nearby diners (i.e., Sax's). Tip: If you're coming from 101N, turn on G street to enter the lot. You'll have to squeeze bc there's not much room. We parked right outside of the lot and no harm was done. read more

A fabulous, cute boutique hotel in the heart of Petaluma. I've stayed here a few times and each room I've stayed in is unique with thoughtful decor (a francophiles dream). They have a lot for parking, which I've never had an issue with. It's a few blocks away from the downtown area and has a couple of food venues in immediate distance. They have a kitchen/cafe downstairs but I've never used it. You do have to book in two night increments over the weekend and because they're so cute and boutique-y, they often will book up and not have any vacancies on short notice (not sure how it is in the pandemic). The 5 stars is for the experience, not the quality of the hotel (more like 3 star). I recommend this hotel to anyone who appreciates creativity, claw foot tubs, a solid change of scenery. Don't recommend for anyone looking for a big chain (Hyatt, Starwood, etc) experience. read more
