The parking lot will get full on the weekends, especially during spring when you have a better chance of seeing whales. Several picnic tables available with friendly seabirds checking out what you're eating. Restrooms are next to the parking lot.

There is a lot to do here for kids. Bike riding, pool, petting zoo, hay rides, play park and much more. Having this many activities, you'd expect families and you'd be correct. With families and children comes noise, but that's ok because fun was being had by all. The nice thing is once the the quiet hours hit, that's what it got...quiet, so everyone was respectful of that. Also by Sunday, most families had cleared out, so then the days were mostly quiet as well. The property is very well maintained. The bathrooms and showers were clean and well stocked. They're easy to get to (especially from the spaces we occupied). The grounds are kept up and the staff is very friendly and helpful. We look forward to visiting here again!

Visiting friends and guest must pay a fee and register at the office. There are a variety of things to explore around the facility and plenty of activities for kids - Petting Zoo, huge pool, awning canopies at pool, hot tub, Rock Wall, Jumping Pillow, mining area, biking, etc. The grounds are nicely landscaped and have inviting environments. The store is very well stocked with a vast variety of camping and other items. I have been to a variety of KOA campgrounds but none have been to the beauty and level of experience as this location. My only con about this location is the price of the sites and merchandise and propane. I suppose this could be the very reason this location is so exceptional. Location, location, location and beauty. The representatives were extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.

She is such a kind and generous person. She allowed me to use her WiFi, her phone, and let me and my kids wait for hours while our tow truck came. While waiting we got to see the plants and items she sells at her shop. She has beautiful hand crafted items as well as plants that are clearly very healthy and well cared for. Each plant was in a unique mug surrounded by sea glass or tiny sea stars. She has very neat antiques and even handmade crocheted items. I got to see her building some of her artwork made of natural materials like driftwood and abalone shells. She gifted my children a book and other things to keep them occupied while we were stranded. She has such a beautiful heart and beautiful store. It's definitely worth a stop by.

The lady who helped me was very friendly and had personally put together 10 clay pots of little cacti that was I wanting to bring home with me. What a somewhat hidden gem! Definitely lesser traveled than a lot of other NPS places. When we…read morewent, in the beginning of July, it was cold and windy - about 55F but with windchill. I ended up buying a sweater at the visitor's center and used it during the entire trip! Our itinerary included the Bear Valley Visitors Center, Chimney Rock, Elephant Seal Overlook, Lighthouse, Drakes Beach, Cypress Tree Tunnel, then back to the Bear Valley Visitors Center. The entire trip took about 6.5 hours - it was great! The visitors center was clean, well-stocked, and informative. Bathrooms on the outside, plenty of parking. Inside there's a shop with lots of goodies including clothing, totes, stickers/pins, first aid supplies, and more typical goodies. Rangers were very friendly and informative. Lots of interactive displays as well. Chimney Rock was a quick hike. There's a bathroom and a bench or two at the trailhead. We thought the hike was pretty easy. Lots to see including wildflowers, bugs, birds, and deer! Plus, the view at the end is gorgeous, and there's a geological stamp there too. No elephant seals at the overlook, but it's not peak season, so we weren't expecting any. The lighthouse was a nice surprise! According to the website, it should have been closed on a Tuesday, but the ranger told us that summer hours are different, and it was open! We went to the small visitors center, then walked the 313 steps down to see the lighthouse. It was super windy. There are several rest points along the staircase in case folks need it. While we couldn't climb into the lighthouse, we could go inside and peak around, which was pretty cool. There was a ranger there who answered questions, and we saw some people looking for whales. Drakes Beach was gorgeous. We ended up staying for about 1.5 hours because the kids had so much fun digging in the sand and watching crabs scurry along the beach. There was barely anyone else there, so we had a huge part to ourselves. And there are a bunch of sand dollars! That was so cool to see. Most of them were cracked, but occasionally we saw some whole ones. The visitors center here was closed, but looked like it was well-stocked with unique goodies. Bathrooms were open, big, and clean. Cypress Tree Tunnel was every bit as beautiful as I've seen in photos. Quite a few people there walking the tunnel and taking photos. The boys earned their Junior Ranger badge at the end of the visit. And we got our stamps! Fun times - we'll definitely be back!

Today we chose the Bear Valley hike trail. The path is wide and mostly flat and even includes a bathroom midway. As you walk you are able to hear the beautiful sounds of the babbling brook along the route. Being late Spring we were able to spot a good amount of wildflowers- buttercups, poppies, bleeding heart, foxglove and more. We encountered several equestrian's throughout our hike.

The only disappointment was that one of the three riverside tents was not next to the other two, even though we had booked the tents in 1 reservation. I thought I had confirmed they were next to each other, but it did not work out that way. While we were at Wildhaven, we had horrible rainy weather. However, our family still had a blast! The rain didn't stop the kids from biking, scootering, fishing, etc. We made the best of it and everyone had a great time. The facilities were clean, the tents were spacious, the beds were very comfortable and the website accurately described all amenities. We paid extra for the early check in and it was worth it because it gave us more time to get settled in before heading to the river and maximizing our first day. I would recommend water shoes for adults and kids because the river is really rocky. We failed to bring water shoes and lost two pairs of sandals that floated down stream. We look forward to another trip at Wildhaven :)

We loved it so much that we planned to make it an annual family tradition. Unfortunately, this trip completely changed my opinion. This time we booked one of the cabins instead of a tent. My reservation clearly stated there would be four guests, yet the cabin only had three pillows. My kids slept on the futon, and the blanket provided for them had obviously not been washed--it was covered in dog hair and goathead stickers. When I asked for extra pillows and blankets, I was told they didn't have any available. I ended up having to Instacart pillows and blankets on the second day because it was too late to get them the first night. My kids used my blanket that first night. I understand and appreciate that Wildhaven is dog-friendly, but I think there should either be designated pet-friendly cabins or a much more thorough cleaning process between guests. What if my children had severe dog allergies? That simply isn't acceptable. The campground was also completely booked, so I expected the shared facilities to be cleaned more frequently. Instead, the men's restroom was filthy by 7:00 p.m., and the cleaning log showed it hadn't been serviced since 4:19 p.m. The handwashing and dishwashing stations were also out of paper towels. The final disappointment was the wagon policy. Campers are encouraged to buy firewood on-site to help prevent the spread of invasive insects, which we happily did. However, we were told we had to pay to rent a wagon just to transport the firewood and ice to our cabin. Last fall, guests were allowed to use the wagons at no charge for this purpose. Charging extra for something that supports campground rules and conservation efforts felt frustrating and unnecessary. Wildhaven is still a beautiful property, and that's what makes this experience so disappointing. We truly wanted this to become a yearly family tradition, but after this visit, I don't think we'll be returning. I hope management addresses these issues because this place has so much potential, and our first experience showed just how great it can be.

Yes, the campground gets packed during holiday weekends--but leaving a 1-star review because a popular campground is full makes absolutely no sense . During busy weekends, the campground fills up quickly with campers enjoying their trips with family and friends. If you show up late to a popular campground during a holiday expecting an empty spot to magically be waiting for you, that might be a planning problem--not an Ocean Cove problem . The campground itself is absolutely beautiful. You get insane, million-dollar ocean views, gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, and a great forest trail to walk through. Eventually, you'll find another incredible ocean-view spot known by many as "Service Rock" --usually where people end up trying to catch some service when there isn't much around the campground. One of my favorite things about Ocean Cove is the people. You meet so many friendly people, randomly start conversations, and easily make new friends. It has a real camping atmosphere that keeps people coming back. Now, some of these 1-star reviews are honestly wild . Someone said the cliffs are dangerous and Ocean Cove needs to fence off the entire campground. Absolutely not. This is a natural coastal campground with cliffs. Parents are responsible for watching their children, and adults are responsible for paying attention to their surroundings. We don't need to fence off one of the most beautiful parts of the campground because somebody forgot that cliffs are, in fact, dangerous . Then there are complaints about the honey buckets. During busy weekends, there are a LOT of people using them. The staff can maintain them, but they can't clean them every 10 seconds . Have realistic expectations. Complaining that Ocean Cove is too expensive is also crazy. Maintaining a campground, paying employees, and keeping a business running costs money. What do people expect--an incredible campground on the California coast with insane ocean views for $10 a night forever? Ocean Cove is worth the money. And the complaints about it being "overly crowded"... seriously? What do you expect during a busy weekend--an empty campground? If the place is packed, that should tell you something: people love coming here. The people working here also deserve recognition. Matt in the store is an awesome guy--friendly, easy to talk to, and always cool. 10/10. Joe is also a great and helpful guy. And Joe and Louise around the campground are both incredibly kind and friendly with a great sense of humor. Just understand: if you give them shit, you're probably going to get shit right back . And lastly: OYSTER DIVE! I don't care what anybody says--those oysters are BOMB. Fresh, cleaned on the spot, freshly grilled, and the sauces are absolutely fire. 11/10. Broke the scale. They never get old, and buying a dozen--or several--is always worth it . Overall, Ocean Cove is a phenomenal place to camp. Incredible ocean views, sunsets, forest trails, great people, amazing employees, and some seriously good food. To the people leaving 1-star reviews because the campground was busy during a holiday, because they expected every cliff to be fenced off, or because a busy employee didn't stare directly into their soul when they walked into the store: respectfully, maybe Ocean Cove just isn't for you . For everyone else who enjoys nature, camping, incredible views, good people, and having a great time--Ocean Cove is absolutely worth the drive and worth every dollar. We checked in on Sunday and stayed until Thursday. Give or take 3 whole days/night of the bathroom not being cleaned. Showers had clumps of hair, razors left on the floor--just gross honestly. I brought it to the attention of the maintenance guy to kindly ask when they would be cleaning next, to be answered with," I'm not sure, you can drive to the other bathrooms." Brought it to the attention to the guy in charge at the front, where I was then rudely spoken over as he answered the phone mid conversation, to then continue with their regular lady has Covid and he's had complaints about this maintenance guy a few times now. He did ask to give us free ice but I declined and said I just wanted clean bathrooms. Then to top it off, as any camp night slows down around a fire, laughs are had and stories are told, a worker comes over to tell us to be quit and accuses us of being on drugs(acid) to be exact. SMH. What a completely ignorant moron. Yes we were laughing and being a little loud, but no excuse for a worker to speak to any guest this way. Owners apologized but like I said for what we paid, the cleanliness, the distance some of us drove and how we were treated--would not waste my money again.
