Bedbugs at the Simi Valley Motel 6 (and/or fleas as the manager suggested to make me feel better)
    Bronek W.

Welcome to the Motel 6 Simi Valley - Stay where the bedbugs stay. Beware, you get what you pay for. My family had Covid and I had to stay at multiple hotels in Simi valley. First the place looks old and poorly maintained. I drove past people drinking beer in the parking lot at 10pm and figured I was only here one night and maybe saving a little money. Walking around the hotel and up the stairs everything is so dirty. In the room they've drilled large holes through the floor and wall what looks like a long time ago. But the dust around the hole drilled on the floor never got vacuumed or cleaned up. I figure so was just there to spend the night so I went to bed. Later, I woke up in the middle of the night with my neck itching badly and big welts on my neck forehead, feet and calves. Then when I turned on the lights I saw the signature bloodstains on my pillow and sheets from the bedbug bites. I told the front desk person and she did nothing but tell me to take a card and that I "can tell her what I think". I called the manager later and she apologized and that they would have to investigate. After awhile of talking about the way it was handled, she offered a $20 refund. She said they would have check it out and see what they find. But she said "we have fleas too so...". Just the thing you want to hear from a hotel manager, right? I guess that was supposed to make me feel better? The motel 6 was the least expensive option in Simi. But the sad part, was that the Motel 6 was only $15 cheaper than the nearby Grand Vista hotel (which I had stayed at the night before). The grand vista is much much better for the small price difference. You get a bigger room with a fridge and microwave, and it solder but maintained far better. Plus I didn't get bitten by bedbugs at the grand vista. For $15 more you can avoid this disgusting dump of a motel and not get bitten by bedbugs... Or fleas.

I recently stopped here for the night while travelling from Texas to San Francisco. I chose Simi Valley because I wanted to wake up early the next morning and go to the Ronald Regan Presidential Library. This Motel 6 was nice enough. It was clean and well kept. The price was a little more expensive because of the location but it wasn't too bad. The location doesn't have much going on and I couldn't find any open restaurants after 10pm except for some fast food.

This place is completely disgusting. When I came into my room it was super humid and smelled like mold and mildew. Checked out the bed there was animal hair all over it- there was makeup on the other side of the pillow when I flipped it. Good thing I brought my own pillow and blanket and steamed the bedding..... Looked underneath the bed and there were beer/bottle caps so obviously the room was not even clean. Walk into the bathroom - the floor is lifted and there's black mold along the tub. There was a hole in the door. This place is legit garbage and super sketchy. Never again. Just wanted to get out of this place ASAP. 10/10 would NOT recommend. You guys should take a little more consideration into the cleanliness of the room because wtf this is NOT okay for the safety of anyone.

However, my experience took a very concerning turn when I was suddenly locked out of my room. When I went to the front desk for assistance, I was told--very loudly and in front of other guests--that I had an outstanding balance. This was both shocking and embarrassing, especially because the hotel was already holding $2,685.00 on my credit card. Despite this, I was required to make an additional payment of $1,400.00, even though I had only stayed four nights at that point. The following day, I was locked out again and told there was still a balance and that the hotel had been attempting to contact me. I later discovered they had been calling the wrong phone number. As a loyal Hilton Honors member who travels frequently and has stayed with Hilton properties many times, I found the way this situation was handled extremely unprofessional and humiliating. I am currently disputing the charges, as the hotel held $2,685.00 and I was later charged an additional $2,700.00, which appeared excessive and was never clearly explained. In addition to the billing issues, the condition of the room was disappointing. The property was dated and not well maintained, and we experienced ongoing plumbing problems, including toilets that would not flush due to apparent sewer line issues. Based on this experience, I would strongly advise others to proceed with caution when booking this property. What should have been a routine extended stay became an unnecessarily stressful and embarrassing situation that has significantly impacted my confidence in staying with Hilton in the future.

What followed was one of the most humiliating, discriminatory, and dehumanizing experiences of my life. A payment miscommunication arose: front desk staff (Melony and Rozanne) had told me I could only pay at the front desk, but when the time came, there was a dispute. I pleaded with them from my room -- I could barely stand, let alone walk -- and explained my condition clearly. They refused to accommodate me. The manager, Jazlynne, then demanded I come to the front desk myself, which required me to painfully walk past roughly twenty doors down the hallway on broken limbs. I made that agonizing trip. And I was still denied service. What happened next was beyond unprofessional -- Jazlynne verbally assaulted me, yelled, made racially charged remarks, and unleashed a barrage of extreme obscenities at me. She then locked herself in her office and called the police. I -- a disabled person, barely able to move -- was effectively evicted on the spot. My belongings were already moved in. I had to pack everything up myself, call an Uber, and scramble to find alternate accommodations that weren't even set up yet. I then spent three months attempting to file a complaint with the corporate office. I called once a week. Every single time, I was the one reaching out -- they never once called me back, despite repeatedly assuring me they would. I was told my complaint had been "escalated" three times. Eventually, I was told coldly and without explanation that "management will no longer be doing business with me." When I pressed the employee further, it became clear the complaint had never actually been escalated at all. They strung me along for three months, ignored me, and quietly dropped my complaint. This hotel discriminated against a disabled person in crisis, subjected me to racial abuse, physically forced me out, and then covered it up at the corporate level. Zero stars if I could. Do not stay here.

I arrived after a 5-hour drive expecting a decent stay, only to walk into what can only be described as a neglected, filthy, and outdated property. From the moment you step into the lobby, it's obvious this hotel hasn't seen proper maintenance in years. Chipped paint, damaged drywall, and floors that look like they haven't been vacuumed or deep-cleaned in ages. The air feels grimy, and the entire space screams of a place long past due for a full remodel. The room was somehow worse. The kitchenware looks like it was picked up off the side of the freeway--mismatched, old, and questionable at best. The refrigerator is outdated and visibly dirty, the microwave janky, and the oven hood feels like it was salvaged from a 1970s garage sale. The stovetop? Just odd and out of place. The bathroom initially appeared dirty, but it turns out the sink and tub are just covered in deep scratches and wear that make them look filthy no matter how clean they might be. The carpet, though, is beyond saving--dark grease stains everywhere, threadbare patches, and an overall feeling that it hasn't been sanitized in a very long time. I didn't even feel comfortable walking barefoot. Walls throughout the room are poorly painted, with patches of missing paint high and low--this isn't just cosmetic damage; it's years of neglect. I was booked here for six months through my company, but I won't be staying. This location is a disgusting pigsty and a health concern. It's clear Extended Stay America has chosen to milk profits while completely ignoring the basic standards of cleanliness, maintenance, and guest experience. Avoid this place at all cost.
