Super gross. Attempted to leave this review on Hotels.com where I booked this, but "that page could not be found". This Motel 6 has a rating of 7.4/10 on that site, so now I know better than to book through there. The photos online are of what the rooms actually look like - yes, even the photos from 10 years ago, but photos can't feature smell. This place smells like an old Las Vegas casino: ashtray, mildew, and regret. The smell was so overpowering, I had a headache by the middle of the night. Everything I brought into the room smelled like smoke after we left, including my purse, clothes I didn't even remove from my bag, my luggage itself, and my hair scrunchie. I had to THROW AWAY the pillow I brought from home, which cost more than I paid for one night at this motel. The floor was sticky. The inside of the bathroom door was sticky. The air conditioner controls were sticky. The exterior, lobby/office and stairwells have been neglected for a long time. The mattress wasn't uncomfortable, but after everything else that's not enough for a better rating. read more

Soooooo...I'm guessing this place might be a section8 or a state run motel for ppl with problems, the activity I witnessed while there kinda gave me a no good vibe. But we all like a cheap place to stay so I choose this one. Zero amenities, I knew this going in, but I think I at least need a fridge. Shower clean and water hot. The floors however, disgusting, probably hasn't seen a mop for a month. When u walk from your bed to the bathroom in your white socks&they're no longer white, cmon!!! Not having rugs I know is a good thing, but this is not ok. Made me wonder about the bedsheets&stuff. The beds are on a formica-ish platform so only mattress&pillow,nothing fancy. I couldn't believe that a Motel 6 was the top rated hotel in Youngstown at $49/night (web)! The outside looks like any other motel but my room (#116) was clean, modern with a kicking Euro decor. I was in town to visit a relative in the hospital (St. Elizabeth is right down Belmont) and checked in late. As a single woman traveling alone, I was grateful to Jen at the front desk for putting me 2 doors down from the front desk. The A/C was nice and cold; shower was hot and the bed super comfy. The big shots at Motel 6 HQ should check this place out to see what it takes to re-brand yourself. read more

Probably the nicest "highway" motel I've ever stayed at. The rates are exactly the same as you'd pay for any of the neighboring hotels (and actually cheaper than some!). You can hear the highway from the room, but like Tom Petty said, they eventually end up sounding "like waves, on a beach". My only complaints - No wifi (not a big deal you can use a Cat5 cable to connect to the internet) and no washer/dryer available. Oh, and as an aside, the Chinese food restaurant that shares the same parking lot is actually quite good! read more

Bernie who works the front desk was awesome, super friendly and personable and made sure to get me in a downstairs room so I didn't have to climb stairs in the snow at 33 weeks pregnant ;P the room itself was really clean and the bed was comfy. Only complaint would be the water for the shower took a few minutes to heat up but that's not really the fault of the hotel. We stopped here on a road trip from New York to Chicago. It started snowing, and it was getting late, so we looked for a hotel along the interstate. Generally, I wouldn't recommend Motel Six, but this hotel was great. It was surprisingly design-y, and our room actually looked like the photos on yelp. It felt more like a hipster place than a highway motel. Also, we were traveling with our dog, and it was pet friendly for no additional fee. Low amenities (as you would expect) but the rooms are straight out of an ikea catalog, which is refreshing when you're at that desperate late night place in driving through darkened Ohio/Pennsylvania stretches of Route 80 and don't know what to expect. You know Motel 6 will be cheap but I am always a little skeptical about cleanliness, but this place with it's faux bamboo flooring (no sketchy carpeting) and nice furniture was great. This place is just fine, but it's not particularly a hidden gem. It's a budget motel, with budget rooms and budget amenities. For that, it's perfectly adequate. It's cheap and the staff is friendly. But the rooms are bare, the beds are small and hard, there's no complementary shampoo, and the heat cycles on and off very loudly. While it's clean enough, it's not exactly sparkling. And you might have to ask for a room where the door isn't broken. If you want more than that, you should choose a fancier place. Don't be fooled by the cascade of five-star reviews -- but don't overreact in the other way either. read more

This place is renovated and really nice compared to the old motel --- used to be called the Tallywacker Motel or something shady. Just be a little careful --- druggie land is down a couple minutes south on Belmont Ave. Not a safe place to be around at night. This place is a nice stop for grabbing a good night's rest. I also brought some strippers back here that I got "friendly" with at the Club 76 at the next exit. Had some naughty fun and made a little noise, but no one complained. I had a fine time here, but giving 2 stars imagining my mom staying here... there was cigarette ash on one of the 2 beds in my room when I came in. Wifi was pretty shaky until the sun went down, when I assume everyone else went on wifi, at which point it stopped altogether. Some folks were bumping loud music around 11, I put in ear plugs and fell asleep so I don't know when they stopped. I stayed here on my way through northern OH on a business trip. The room was clean and had no offensive odors such as smoke. Loved this. The bed was comfortable. The shower was good. The place didn't seem moldy like so many rooms can be. I liked the bamboo flooring, which seems easier to keep clean than the disgusting carpet we find in so many motels. As another reviewer said, the PTAC (heating/cooling unit) did cycle on and off loudly. I wore earplugs. As another reviewer said, though, the place is, uh, "spartan." No hairdryer. No towel bars, save one small one in the bathroom. No dresser. Insufficient space to hang clothes (two pegs, basically). No closet. No clock. No facial tissue. Very, very spartan, indeed. They couldn't see fit to give us any of these expected and useful amenities, but they gave us some frou-frou towel holder (see another poster's picture) and an elevated sink one wouldn't expect (or require) at a Motel 6. No place to put your suitcases, hang your clothes adequately. Sheesh. I'd like to meet the genius who thought this type of motel room is what travelers want/need. I've had excellent experiences at other Motel 6 locations and will continue to consider Motel 6 when traveling. But this one seems to me to be a dud compared to its competition. read more

Stayed for one night on a road trip - I knew this was a budget place and booked on Hotels.com after review but I straight up did not have a good time. I only looked at the hotels.com listing first, the photos looked promising and it had an 8.0 out of 10 which is decent. However: 1) got a sketchy vibe from the other cars and people I saw hanging around the area. 2) I was first given a key to a room that turned out to be occupied?? Can be an honest mistake if the occupant was supposed to have been checked out. Front desk lady was very nice and friendly though. But it freaked me out enough thinking someone could potentially just walk in. 3) the SMELL. There are signs everywhere that it's no smoking, even in the room itself. The staircase and my room on the 2nd floor however smelled like it was inhabited by a series of chain smokers. It was so gross I tried to air it out with the window open but even the outside smelled like smoke and I ended up going and buying febreeze from Walmart but it didn't help at all. Like every part of the room smelled like smoke. I couldn't breathe through my nose and barely slept, and my pajamas, a day later, smell like a heavy smoker borrowed them. I don't smoke at all and hate the smell so it really wasn't fun. 4) I know it's no frills but the room literally had nothing, even tissues. 5) the mattress was the most uncomfortable thing I've ever slept on, when I tried to turn over I felt like I was body slamming into plywood. 6) very very loud through all hours of the night. After reading the reviews, I was looking forward to our stay. I think I may have set the bar too high though, so maybe take that in to account. Let's start with the pluses. 1. The room was clean and roomy enough. The furniture is a small amount of furniture but it was easy to put the suitcases down. 2. bamboo floors. no carpets. I have a ton of allergies. I prefer it that way. 3. Staff is very friendly and helpful. 4. My husband found the bed comfortable. 5. location was quiet. the cons. 1. The smoke alarm, for some reason, was wrapped in plastic and sealed with duct tape.??? 2. The night we were there, the cable/internet went down. Not their fault since it was the whole street. (somebody cut the cable yesterday with digging or something) 3. The bed was too soft for me. 4. They only have non-smoking rooms. This isn't a negative. The negative was that we had a smoker next door so they were outside their room puffing away so every time we opened the door we got smoke in our room. 5. No known elevator. 6. The stairwell smelled like someone or some animal peed in there and there were spider webs around the stairs. Generally, not bad. For stopping on your way elsewhere it works. read more

Room was clean and location feels safe, plenty of restaurants in walking distance and a bar also. this is a remodeled motel 6 location. staff i interacted with were friendly. very convenient just off I-80 and also a short drive from downtown Youngstown. I would definitely stay here again. Internet worked well in my second floor room. 15% meal discounts at the Denny's which is a short walk if you are ok with walking under the freeway overpass otherwise a 2 minute drive. read more

I stopped at this motel as the last leg of a cross-country roadtrip - I was exhausted having driven 14 hours that day and just needed some sleep. However, after I unpacked I quickly realized sleep was not in the cards. I found a baby roach crawling around within minutes - I am a pretty laid back person and can handle a lot and thought "no big deal, must have gotten in here by accident...right?" Wrong! I kept discovering various bugs, and just when I thought I could not possibly find another, I would. Over the 8 hours I stayed at this motel, I found a total of 8 different creatures - 3 roly polies, 2 flies, one roach (possibly 2, see next), an unidentified bug possibly a roach that was squashed on the floor upon arrival (so they obviously did not clean the room or even inspect the floor after the previous tenant checked out), and a seriously hideous looking black creature that looked like something out of a horror movie. I have pictures of all of these creatures because words do not do them justice, especially the horror movie creature! Feel free to email me at "tet1023@aol.com if you would like to see the pictures. Upon discovering 2 roly-polies meandering around the bathroom, the deplorable and filthy conditions of the bathroom became apparent - also noticeable in one of the pictures. Besides the bugs, as other reviewers on here and various travel sites have noted, my white socks turned black within minutes of walking on the apparently filthy floor - a confirmation of my suspicion that the floor is not cleaned between guests. I honestly wanted to leave and keep driving at that point but had been driving 14 hours straight and needed sleep in order to stay safe on the road. I attempted to sleep but my efforts were essentially futile as I was quite unnerved at the multitude of bugs I had found as I imagine anyone would be - any time I felt the slightest sensation I would swat at it assuming it to be another insect. After listlessly laying in the bed for a couple hours doing this and then getting maybe 2 hours of on-and-off sleep, I packed up and got out of there as soon as I could. I faxed a letter with pictures and left a message with my phone number for the manager the day after my stay and was actually giving him/her the courtesy of waiting for their response to my issues before posting a review. However, it was been days now and no one has contacted me, leaving me with the impression that this is not unusual for this motel and that they do not care about the sanitary status of their rooms or the health and happiness of their guests. I am a Yale-educated RN, soon to be nurse practitioner, and am all too familiar with the multitude of diseases that roaches and other creatures can carry, thus the state of this room and likely other rooms in this hotel poses not only an inconvenience but a health hazard to occupants. Considering the lack of response from Motel 6, I will be contacting the BBB and the local Youngstown health department. If you value your health and actually want to sleep, please please please DO NOT STAY AT THIS MOTEL! I would no recommend it to my worst enemy! On our roadtrip across the country, we stopped at this hotel for the night. It was very modern and the construction was finally completed! It was one of the best furnished hotels that I've ever come across! It was done with bamboo flooring, which did get slick when it got wet. The wireless internet didn't work for me for some reason, but the woman at the front desk was very nice and even brought down a cord to connect to the ethernet! For a Motel 6, this exceeded expectations. Room was clean, although tacky. Whomever mentioned bamboo floors was referring to some kind of synthetic material that was creaky, but clean. The non-smoking room smelled of smoke, as did the dirty stairway with the stained, ripped carpet. BUT, for $53 including tax, what do you want?? Angela at the desk was extremely nice, and helpful. One thing you DON'T EVER want to do is book anything through YELP! I booked the room through YELP, which uses a vendor called HIPMONK. The reservation was confirmed via email, but not "in the system" at the Motel 6 when I arrived. It was late, so I paid again and got my keys. Then I called the HIPMONK help number. Usual time on hold, then was told the "hotel will definitely refund your money". I had called from the lobby, so gave my phone to Angela at the desk (who was busy with other guests). She spoke to the HIPMONK guy, who argued with her. He finally put me on (eternal) hold while someone else from HIPMONK called the hotel directly. I saw it happen because I was still at the check-in desk. This person also have Angela an argument when she said HIPMONK, not the Motel6, owed me the refund since she already checked me in. Finally HIPMONK took me off hold and said they would refund my money. We'll see. As of now, the charge is still on my credit card BTW, HIPMONK's price was $15 more than dealing with the Motel6 directly. Don't book through YELP. read more

I've been to Motel 6's before. I know it's not luxury so I wasn't expecting much to begin with but thought it'd be decent at least. Well this one is absolutely FILTHY. Disgusting. First experience: after a long drive, I decide to wash my face and grabbed a washcloth to dry it. The washcloth had all this crusty crumb-stuff on it. Sheets and towels looked filthy. The water in the sink didn't drain. There was a eaten pit of some fruit on the floor. My boyfriend noticed stains on the bathroom wall near the toilet that seemed like cleaned-up vomit stains by someone who didn't do a good job cleaning it. There were no tissues, no table lamps. This is no frills at its not-finest. Go elsewhere. The most disgusting place I ever stayed in and I'm a touring musician. read more

My wife and I stayed here for one night on our way back home from a road trip visiting the family. We appreciated the fact that there's no pet fee and that Trip Advisor gave such favorable reviews. Plus, you can't beat the price. We checked in around 11:30pm after driving for 12 hours. The front desk guy, although efficient, couldn't have cared less if we were there or not. I asked for a ground floor room and he said there wasn't any available. No problem. When we got to the room, the door took a couple of tries to recognize the key card for entry. Once we got in, it also took a little extra strength to lock it. The room itself had been updated. TV, bed, it all looked fairly new. However, this now Non-Smoking room had clearly once been a Smoking room before. You could smell it in the walls, the bed, etc. The floor was sticky by the bathroom and the towels were small. We weren't looking for the Ritz, just a safe and clean place to rest our head. It's fine for a night. read more

Stayed here twice within a month and was really happy both times. When we arrived 7/1, I believe the front desk girl was Angie and she was so sweet and friendly, I felt like I'd known her forever. When on my return trip, another sweet girl named Jennifer checked me in. Also a doll. The room both times was clean and comfortable. I requested a room on first floor and both times I was accommodated. There isn't really much more to stay other than its great enough that I stay here every time I go back East for a visit, which is at least once a year. I definitely recommend. read more

This hotel gets a star for the interior remodel. It does look very nice. However, the lack of cleanliness needs attention. There was hair in every room and trash left from the previous renter. Our sheets were dirty as well. We were also only given 2 very small rough towels. While I know this isn't motel 6's fault, people smoke all over the building, so if you are sensitive to smoke then be careful. I would not recommend staying here. read more

Despite evidence of recent remodeling, which makes the rooms look good on the surface, everything stank of stale cigarette smoke and extra-strength air freshener. We had to ask for another room because the cigarette smoke in our non-smoking room was so strong. In our second room the air freshener scent prevailed, but it still smelled of cigarettes. Moreover, in the middle of the night the ventilation system piped smoke from outdoors into our room, and there was a butt on our doormat the next morning. (This is not the fault of the management, who had no smoking signs on the premises.) When we left, we discovered that our clothes, suitcase, and bags retained the smoke scents from the room. Even after washing with Tide, some clothes still stank. Even now, four days later, our suitcases and bags still stink, though we have been airing them the whole time. If the scent remains, we will need to replace them, which will cost more than the hotel room did. read more

By far the best cheap way to catch some z's while travelling through this part of I-80. The rooms are brand new with flatscreens, air conditioning that actually works, bamboo floors for added coolness, and less than $50 a night! Frankly, it can't be beat! read more
