But I'm writing to push how wonderful Diana was to us at all times. From extra help moving in, to putting trays of the things we wanted from the lobby onto our porch, to dealing with our puppy (who could be off-putting to some) in ways that made everyone involved feel heard and taken care of. It's hard to imagine anything she could have been better with. We will be back much sooner!

After lane splitting for hours Diane waved us down and said she could check us into our room. We stayed in a room that overlooked our motorcycles so it was perfect. I wish I had taken photos of the room. It was decorated beautifully with photos taken by Diane as well as art on the walls by her sister. After showing us how to turn on shower, where extra amenities were we set out to explore. The town is a gem and everyone in it was so hospitable I can't wait to return. The room was perfect to come home too and enjoy a glass of wine in front of your own little fireplace. Yes you read that right. We enjoyed a fire before going to bed. It's a great place for a romantic getaway or a girls weekend. Highly recommend heading there. If you're lucky enough to talk to Diane you may even find out some of the hidden gems and where to talk a walk. Let's just say the walk I took I found Jesus. I'll always hold these memories closely to my heart thank you for sharing your magic.

You can't miss the huge "Coffee" sign visible from the highway. We recently had to drive said route and decided to finally visit. And we were happy we did. Cuyama Buckhorn serves tasty American dishes from biscuits and gravy to burgers. It was lunch, so we had the burgers. Very good! We tried the apple pie as well and it was nice. We stopped by again on the way back home for some coffee. Good stuff. Not a fan of the matcha drink ( but too much milk) Great location for travelers, friendly service. Fun diner vibe. If you're traveling via the 166, definitely stop, have a coffee and a bite to eat.

Last time we…read morewanted to stop here there was a field fire up ahead, so we drove back to San Luis Obispo through California Valley, a Wild West adventure on miles and miles of unpaved road, back through time to the Carrizo Plain national monument. The drive out was lovely, with lots of yellow broom blooming on the hills. We passed the Firefighter Monument that my husband tends that commemorates the firefighters killed in the Spanish Ranch fire, and checked out the growth of some oak trees around it. We pulled in for an early lunch at the Buckhorn and got a nice booth near a window. We were waited on immediately and provided water and a new menu with more of an emphasis on breakfast dishes. It was early lunch for us, and I ordered my favorite "Breakfast Salad," a Cobb salad, which has bacon and egg in it. My husband got the pulled pork sandwich, a specialty of the place. There was a delay getting the wine menu, and my first choice had run out, so I tried a white that was close to a Sauvignon Blanc from a local vineyard. I had spied some very authentic looking apple pie coming in, and we ordered a slice for desert. It came with a couple of scoops of creamy ice cream, and had a sure-enough baked through crust with juicy, cinnamony apples inside! On the way to the car, we noticed a local rancher "branding" the building, by pushing his heated up brand into the front wall of the restaurant where many other brands appeared. The paint smoked a bit, and when he was done, a spade appeared on the facade, "Spade Ranch," he told me, literally making his brand relevant to the cafe! We reveled in the beauty of the ride back, appreciated out step back in time into the history of this beautiful valley.

Let's get into it. Property itself, as I said is very nice inside, updated and clean. No fee for parking each night and it comes with a free breakfast, which is always a great thing. The rooms are also nice, updated, not huge, but plenty of space, they have a fridge and coffee maker. Very comfortable, but also probably the main reason for the 3 stars. The bed was comfortable, but as I was sleeping, I started to itch a bit and then after my stay I was very itchy for a few days. Not sure what the deal was, but not a good thing. I washed all my bedsheets at home and showered a number of times to ensure whatever was in the bed was not with me any longer. As I said, I think after 2-3 days the itching was over and back to normal. Too bad, as I enjoyed my stay otherwise. The staff here was very friendly and the also had a small indoor pool and a small gym. These two things were great, but also contributed to my one less star, the pool looked nice, but looked to be due for a cleaning. The gym was great, everything I need, but only one bench and no multifunction weight machine, which is a downer. As I said, love Hilton, staff was great, free breakfast, free parking, nice rooms, great looking property, pool and gym. But the itching spell I had after prevented me from rating this one higher, that combined with the gym also brought it down just a bit as well. Gym part is pretty minor though. I am sorry I cannot give them a higher rating this go around, enjoy!

The hot, homemade breakfast prepared by Adriana each morning far exceeded our expectations--so much more than the standard continental breakfast. Every dish was made with care and felt truly special. Their charm and genuine hospitality set this place apart. While a bit of light maintenance could be done in some areas, it's easily overshadowed by the outstanding service and the overall experience. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. There were no other guests, so we had the whole floor to ourselves. It was super quiet and peaceful. I imagine it would be different if there was a house full guests. Jim gave us suggestions on things we could do and places to visit. He also gave us the code for the door, the wifi password, and warnings about bears. We opted to walk around the area and enjoyed a fantastic dinner at The Perch restaurant just a few minutes walk down the road. Coffee was available at 8 the next morning, Adriana made breakfast ready by 830am. We had eggs in hash brown cups, sausages, maple scones, toast with a variety of spreads, and fresh orange juice. Everything was delicious. Sorry I didn't take pictures, I was too busy eating! I was able to eat everything on the table. I had mentioned our list of food allergies upon reserving online and also emailed the list closer to the date. The communication was excellent. I would love to stay at Old Bear B n B again. Thank you, Jim and Adriana, for making us feel so comfortable and welcome.

We left at 4:30 in the morning from Santa Cruz CA and the traffic was starting to get very bad when the I-15 goes up the Grapevine. We decided to pull off to use the restroom and get food about 11:45. We pulled into the Chevron gas station fueled and did assorted things there. By this time the traffic was so bad it took us from 12 03 until 1245 just to get across the street to Best Western. And this decision was made because the traffic was not moving, people were not letting each other go through and tensions were starting to flare in many vehicles, so I decided for us to spend the night at the Best Western in Lebec. This was a fantastic decision. As we walked, we noticed that this was very clean and nicely kept Best Western. Lots of awards on the wall for being a diamond club member. Kimberly helped us at the front desk. She was very polite and helped us through the check-in process. She was very helpful in explaining to me that I probably could have gotten a better rate by directly going to the Best Western site, but I've forgotten my password, so I'll remember to do that next time. The room was clean, spacious and inviting- they had a great bathroom. As you look at the pictures on the Internet, they're very accurate and descriptive. There are plenty of amenities such as fantastic shampoos and conditioners, the pillows were nice and fluffy, and the beds were very inviting. They have an inside pool, which we didn't try, but it looked inviting. They have a snack machine on the inside which was reasonably priced. They offer a great breakfast included, but unfortunately, I had to go to work the next day, so we left very early. I can't tell you how relieved we were to be able to find a room, relax, and let the traffic outside fade away. It didn't stop until around 9:00 at night. I would suggest this hotel anytime but especially during the holidays just to be able to relax and have a nice hearty breakfast, plus there are many restaurants and fast-food (Chipotle, McDonalds, In-N-Out) places around there for the evening meal (we ate at Denny's, but there was an IHOP too).
