Incredible find. Needed a place to stay during Superbloom 2019 at Carrizo Plain. Peter greeted us and was outstanding with his reception, checking us in, and providing multiple maps and expert, up-to-date info on where to find the flowers! There was a significant line, at the Visitor's Center, the next day and we delightfully drove by it fortified with his multitude of accurate data. The room was quiet, great blackout curtains, fridge/microwave/coffee with fresh coffee and pastries each morning. I will reiterate the service was five star, the room spacious and comfy, and beautiful grasslands waiting your enjoyment!

Having spent many summers crossing back and forth across the country, I have much experience with motels and Topper's is tops. Skip the boutique and stay at the real thing. Sparkling clean, this motel offers coffee-making equipment, mini-fridge, microwave and hairdryer in each room. Basic toiletries are included (hand soap, body gel and shampoo.) The beds are comfy. The bath linens are adequate, including a bath mat. The air conditioner had already been turned on at check-in, so the room was cool and comfortable. The grounds are pleasant, old-school motel, with ample parking right in front of your room. It gets hot in Taft, so the pool is a welcome respite. Cable TV is offered with hundreds of channels. It's not luxe but it is great, especially when you're saving hundreds of dollars. Highly recommended.

This small city has other accommodations that are a lot better, but for us this motel offered a great value and stay, having the floors tiled is a great plus. Amenities offered are In room coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge Iron and ironing board Complimentary wi-fi Tiled floors, no nasty carpet Small motel size tv Parking right in front of your door This motel isn't fancy, is just a place to rest for the night and as a customary practice I always bring cleaning wipes to wipe down everything.

The hot, homemade breakfast prepared by Adriana each morning far exceeded our expectations--so much more than the standard continental breakfast. Every dish was made with care and felt truly special. Both Adriana and Jim were exceptional hosts--warm, welcoming, and incredibly accommodating. They made us feel less like guests in their own home and more like part of their extended family. Their charm and genuine hospitality set this place apart. While a bit of light maintenance could be done in some areas, it's easily overshadowed by the outstanding service and the overall experience. We're so glad this was our first BnB stay--it set the bar high!

Jim was there to meet us and show us our room. We got The Cowboy Room on the second floor (no live cowboys included! ) which we selected so that we could have separate beds. The room was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. There were no other guests, so we had the whole floor to ourselves. It was super quiet and peaceful. I imagine it would be different if there was a house full guests. Jim gave us suggestions on things we could do and places to visit. He also gave us the code for the door, the wifi password, and warnings about bears. We opted to walk around the area and enjoyed a fantastic dinner at The Perch restaurant just a few minutes walk down the road. Coffee was available at 8 the next morning, Adriana made breakfast ready by 830am. We had eggs in hash brown cups, sausages, maple scones, toast with a variety of spreads, and fresh orange juice. Everything was delicious. Sorry I didn't take pictures, I was too busy eating! I was able to eat everything on the table. I had mentioned our list of food allergies upon reserving online and also emailed the list closer to the date. The communication was excellent. I would love to stay at Old Bear B n B again. Thank you, Jim and Adriana, for making us feel so comfortable and welcome.

She then accused me of "sending my friend 2 days ago to complain about bed bugs" because I'm 'trying to ruin their business's which is both mildly funny and highly disgusting considering I've never sent anyone there and after this stay I 100% will not be telling A SINGLE person or friend to stay here. The lady who runs the desk and that you see the most is very disrespectful and speaks down on people especially when you mention any issues with the hotel. She will also do everything she possibly can to keep your deposit and if she cannot find anything she will treat you poorly and talk under her breath about you while you are walking out of the room. This is by far the absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed in. And the lady needs to learn to watch the way she speaks to people. It's lame as hell.

Some caveats: * If the majority of your guests are coming from LA and are pretty much city dwellers, it's going to be an adventure getting here. It's literally in the middle of nowhere and at the wedding we attended, THREE cars ended up in a ditch (pre-wedding, so not as a result of drunkenness)... There are no paved roads leading to the venue. I'm from Kentucky originally so I've seen this before and was OK driving on these sorts of "roads"... but a lot of people aren't. * Bathrooms for guests are porta-potties. * Nearest hotel options are about a 20-minute drive away. * It's entirely outdoors. The indoor space is only for the bridal party to get ready and for the catering (which I believe you have to arrange yourself). Again, if that's what you're looking for - this can be very pretty. My friends had a fantastic wedding and the staff at the venue was remarkably friendly and did a great job. There was a small dance floor, an elevated area for dinner seating and an area for the bar. Coming from LA for the event, it is a commitment and a bit of a driving challenge, so know that going in.
