I go to the campus Mother Bear's regularly but just tried the west side location since my parents are visiting and staying on this side of town. I took my parents here since I thought they should experience Mother Bear's, so, needless to say, I really enjoy the pizza I get at the campus location, and the one I got here was no exception. Their pan pizza is like an intermediate between a regular thick crust pizza and a deep dish, with a delicious dense crust and cheese caramelized up against the edges of the pizza. Their sauces are also notably good. This time I built a pizza with the olive tapenade, and the tapenade was delicious with the artichoke hearts topping. Pretty good house salad too - simple, but the lettuce was fresh and crisp, the balsamic vinaigrette was good, and the goldfish are fun and surprisingly do a lot to enhance the salad. The service was very good. They were very busy on a Saturday evening, and we were told it would be about 25 minutes for a table, which ended up being accurate, and once we were seated, our drinks and food both came out in a timely manner. Our waitress was also friendly. This was a better service experience than I've gotten at the campus location. The atmosphere is family-oriented. There were as many or more families with kids than young students. The writing covering the walls is mostly PG. The furniture has the old school pizza parlor look. There are sound panels all over the ceiling which keeps it from getting too loud even though it's a big place.

Divine Swine. (Meaty with sausage, pepperoni, ham, etc...). It's tasty!

Salads are always fresh and they make their own home ranch dressing! Little whale crackers are a trademark on their salads. Pizza options are aplenty. A medium pizza can feed two hungry people. "Divine Swine" is my favorite but definitely they have a multitude of other pizza toppings combos to suit anyone's pallet. I'm usually a thin crust type of guy at most pizza places, but Mother Bears Traditional crust is perfect with a nice crunch. It's not too thick...not too thin. It's just right....as I think was said in a famous kid's story with bears involved. Depending on the day of week and/or time of day, you might have to wait a moment for a table. While you wait, look around at the random scribbles on the walls. It's a tidy place but also casual. But they are efficient and will accommodate ASAP. FYI---their pizzas make for nice cold breakfast the next morning!

Our fav. The early bird deal + wings! We got the Dixie Two Step Pizza. And the cheese sticks. White sauce and garlic sauce always!

We order from Mother Bears a LOT - and I realized I've never written a review. This is my preferred pizza in Bloomington. They have really good speciality pizzas if you're looking for something different - and you just can't go wrong with a pan pizza. We personally love the specials they run, because they're great for a date night order in. I've eaten in at this restaurant a few times, but most often I order pick up. The staff is always friendly and my food is always ready on time or early! You can't beat the prices for the quality.

Really good pizza. Stopped here on the way home for lunch. The place was packed but we got right in. Ordered two medium pizzas for the family - Divine Swine and The Palermo. Delicious.

Mother Bear's has been my go-to for the past 2 years, and it's no secret it's a Bloomington gem. Their salads are weirdly addictive--I blame the goldfish crackers. I've tried to recreate it at home, and nope... not the same. Their ranch is the best I've ever had, and yes, it belongs on your pizza. Pizza-wise, I typically always go with traditional crust and vodka sauce. Today I topped it up with mozzarella, feta, green peppers, and onion. Had to get it one last time before leaving Bloomington, and honestly... what a way to go out. Forever a Mother Bear's fan. Always a 10/10.

I'm sad we were in a rush when we went here so I couldn't enjoy it fully but I LOVED this pizza spot! There's a lot of seating and we didn't have to wait too long even though it's popular place. We had the mozzarella sticks and a pizza which were both so cheesy and delicious! Would definitely go again if I'm in the area!

This is our go to pizza place any time we stop into Bloomington to see family. We always get take out, but I would love to eat in sometime. It has a very cute ambiance, the staff is super friendly, and the breadsticks are top notch. The pizza is good if you like thicker pieces of pizza. I'd highly recommend trying it out if you are ever in Bloomington.

    David W.

If you're cruising through Bloomington Indiana and are craving really good pizza then you should definitely stop here. Pizza is great, breadsticks are delicious. I'm sure they get busy but we were there in the middle of the afternoon and got right in, but it was full. Next time I'll remember to bring my sharpie so I can write on the walls.

We got their maple bacon cannoli to take home and ate those later - literal perfection! The only downside to the whole evening was the hostess. She was not very nice and to be honest, we almost left and went somewhere else because of her. BUT, I'm still giving the experience 5 stars - the food is just too good and our server went above and beyond to make up for the hostess and make sure we had a wonderful evening!

My wife got something that started with the word eggplant which didn't sound good, but she swore it was fantastic. The kids got a pepperoni pizza and a margarita pizza and said it was good. They also liked the fact that they got to take some home, but this is a college town and who doesn't like to take home pizza. Just saying. I would come back to this place in a heartbeat and get the salmon again. Since I am celiac, I couldn't get the pasta so I just put it on vegetables, but it was really good I might get an appetizer next time. The place was actually kind of small and not that many tables. A booking through OpenTable would be a good idea for you.

I'll be there more often now that I've experienced it in person. Prior to my recent visit for my son's birthday, I had only enjoyed carryout from Da Vinci. Usually a pizza, sometimes the Chicken Parm which is often a go-to Italian dish for me and both were good. But not mind blowing good, especially for the price. We ordered it for some variety, and enjoyed it, but going in person was a completely different experience. We went on a Wednesday night (half-price wine bottle night) and it was crowded. I understand it's always crowded and is only open for evenings during the week. But we were seated immediately as there were only three of us. There were a couple of larger groups waiting for a big table. The restaurant is downtown'ish' and the parking isn't the best, but plenty of side streets around and we were able to get a spot within a block. The only real parking lot is across the street and is owned by the church charging $7 a day for parking. Not sure what the evening rules are and I was neither interested in paying $7 to park in Bloomington nor being towed so we went with a slightly longer walk. Table started with the garlic cheese bread appetizer. It was huge. A full platter of their special bread, cheese and a sauce that may have had some ricotta in it but that didn't deter me from liking it. Normally ricotta is an automatic 'no' but it was delish. I might mention they also provide a carafe full of water so I didn't have to wait for constant refills, which is a great addition. For our mains, son and wife ordered pizzas, and I had the chicken parm. Both enjoyed their pizzas of course and luckily wife didn't eat all of hers so I was able to enjoy a piece as well. The pizzas are individual sized, though on the larger side - maybe 12"? Still a bit pricey at around $18 for a 12" pizza which is probably why I didn't love the delivery option. Plenty of delivered pizzas in Bloomington below that price point. But in the restaurant which was nicely decorated, great service, etc. it seemed appropriate. My chicken parm was amazing. Plenty of pasta on the side, just the right amount of gooey cheese on the chicken and all in all a great dish. Much like the delivery reaction to the pizza, the price and quality in the restaurant for my dish was just better than the delivery option. My only complaint might be that with my pasta/chicken dish a piece or two of bread would have been nice. We were full and didn't have dessert. A great experience, and we will definitely return. For a town that has just about every ethnic food option available it's remarkably under-served in the Italian space. Now that I have this as a sit-down option, the world is a little better. Next time I'm sitting outside on the patio, it looked like fun as well.

This is all great except the inconsistency about the servings... there is not enough spaghetti on the plate but a lot of marinara sauces. The two meatballs only served on the first plate .
