I'm able to admit when I'm wrong, and I was wrong about Da Vinci. And I was wrong without ever stepping foot in the place. I'll be there more often now that I've experienced it in person. Prior to my recent visit for my son's birthday, I had only enjoyed carryout from Da Vinci. Usually a pizza, sometimes the Chicken Parm which is often a go-to Italian dish for me and both were good. But not mind blowing good, especially for the price. We ordered it for some variety, and enjoyed it, but going in person was a completely different experience. We went on a Wednesday night (half-price wine bottle night) and it was crowded. I understand it's always crowded and is only open for evenings during the week. But we were seated immediately as there were only three of us. There were a couple of larger groups waiting for a big table. The restaurant is downtown'ish' and the parking isn't the best, but plenty of side streets around and we were able to get a spot within a block. The only real parking lot is across the street and is owned by the church charging $7 a day for parking. Not sure what the evening rules are and I was neither interested in paying $7 to park in Bloomington nor being towed so we went with a slightly longer walk. Table started with the garlic cheese bread appetizer. It was huge. A full platter of their special bread, cheese and a sauce that may have had some ricotta in it but that didn't deter me from liking it. Normally ricotta is an automatic 'no' but it was delish. I might mention they also provide a carafe full of water so I didn't have to wait for constant refills, which is a great addition. For our mains, son and wife ordered pizzas, and I had the chicken parm. Both enjoyed their pizzas of course and luckily wife didn't eat all of hers so I was able to enjoy a piece as well. The pizzas are individual sized, though on the larger side - maybe 12"? Still a bit pricey at around $18 for a 12" pizza which is probably why I didn't love the delivery option. Plenty of delivered pizzas in Bloomington below that price point. But in the restaurant which was nicely decorated, great service, etc. it seemed appropriate. My chicken parm was amazing. Plenty of pasta on the side, just the right amount of gooey cheese on the chicken and all in all a great dish. Much like the delivery reaction to the pizza, the price and quality in the restaurant for my dish was just better than the delivery option. My only complaint might be that with my pasta/chicken dish a piece or two of bread would have been nice. We were full and didn't have dessert. A great experience, and we will definitely return. For a town that has just about every ethnic food option available it's remarkably under-served in the Italian space. Now that I have this as a sit-down option, the world is a little better. Next time I'm sitting outside on the patio, it looked like fun as well. read more

BARBAIETOLA SALAD- it was slightly too much goat cheese and wished the walnuts were candied GF PERA PIZZA- this was soooooo good! My absolute favorite. The best GF pizza I've ever had. The food was absolutely amazing and was served quickly, with great service! We had a fairly large group, so we were seated toward the back of the restaurant. If we had one suggestion for improvement, it would be the temperature in that area. The section where we were seated--about one table away from the entrance to the restrooms (which was not an issue) and the main dining area--was extremely hot and uncomfortable. It felt as though the air conditioning from the front of the restaurant never reached the back. Unfortunately, that made it difficult to fully enjoy what was otherwise a fantastic meal and dining experience. Overall, the food and service were excellent, and we would gladly return. That said, we'd probably wait until the cooler months--or until the A/C makes its way to the back seating area--before dining there again. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for a few years and have never had an issue before. We went on a Friday night; the place was busy and we waited about 20 minutes for a table--no big deal, as it's usually worth the wait. We ordered our usual: the Barbabietola, Polpette, and the Parma pizza. Unfortunately, things went downhill once the food arrived. The Barbabietola came out without the accompanying bread. Our server said they were still baking it and it would be a few seconds, but we were almost half-done with the dish by the time it finally arrived. Next came the Parma pizza (which is supposed to feature arugula, prosciutto, and shaved parmesan). We received exactly one slice of prosciutto cut into three tiny pieces. They were incredibly stingy with the main ingredient I was paying for. Our server never once came back to check on us or ask how the food was; if she had, I absolutely would have mentioned the lack of prosciutto. After sitting for a while with empty plates, I finally flagged down another server named Hope. She was fantastic. She explained that our original server was overwhelmed, asked how she could help, and brought us our check and a box. When I mentioned the stingy prosciutto, Hope actually agreed and kindly brought us some extra to go for our leftover pizza. We still didn't see our original server until the very end when she took our card to cash us out--and she never once apologized for the lack of service. Tip: Avoid busy nights, or ask to sit in Hope's section! She was wonderful. If a server is that overwhelmed, management really needs to step in and help their staff. read more

Da Vinci is the perfect place for a fancy but affordable dinner, with a nice view of downtown Bloomington as well as a great interior design. For the main course, I got the tortellini and salmon which was perfect. The combination was amazing, with the salmon being nice and tender and the tortellini was seasoned to perfection. For dessert, we got the limoncello flute and tiramisu to share. The presentation for both of these was delightful, and the taste matched as well. Long time customer of this establishment. Have had mostly positive experiences besides repeated slow service and bang average food, but tonight - tonight was special. One person at my table was serviced my dish. The server than brought over the last persons meal and asked if we were just okay swapping at the table after my food had been already eaten from. It was a pleasant Italian dinner. The food was cooked well. Most of the meal didn't hit it out of the park but I would consider it a 'good meal.' The sauce is what took the dish up a notch. I added in some Parmesan cheese and it hit. It doesn't seem like they have much competition in the area. I will say, I did not try the pizza which I have heard it very good. That may have brought the score up. The service was truly wonderful. Always had water at the table. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. I have been to Da Vinci multiple times and i absolutely love it. The location is really nice, with really cool decorations, and outdoor seating. I have always been seated before the wait time we've been given or there hasn't been a wait time. I love their pizzas as they're super unique and flavorful. This time around we got a chicken fettuccini Alfredo which is not my favorite compared to the other pastas they have. The bolognese was very good, but the pizza was the star of the show. I loved the white sauce and goat cheese, which I don't typically love. There weren't that many pistachio pieces on the pizza, but it was still incredible. I love this place. read more

I have found my new favorite Italian restaurant in Bloomington! Da Vinci was outstanding. We loved the atmosphere - cozy but a bit upscale, and although we sat inside I loved the outdoor seating and will be looking forward to that in the future. As soon as we entered we could tell we were in for a treat with the delicious smells coming from the kitchen. We started with the Da Vinci bread which was fabulous. I really liked the ranch dressing for dipping - a bit unique but it worked. Next, our table split a variety of pizzas and pasta along with a big salad and everything was a hit. The bolognese was full of meat (plus we added some extra meatballs), and the Cacio e Vinci was decadent. With plenty of mushrooms, spinach, and sun-dried tomatoes and topped with an over-the-top truffle cream sauce it was heavenly. The pizzas were delicious too. We all loved the crust - and all the toppings piled on top! Prices were a bit high for pasta, but the quality of ingredients and the portion sizes helped justify the cost. There were giant chunks of shrimp, spicy pomodoro sauce, caramelized onion, basil, hot honey, and cheese. Crust was thin and pizza tasted clean and not greasy. It was delicious! Me and Becky went to Da Vinchi for an early Sunday Supper the other week- we were lucky and it was not busy, so We got seated Right Away! We splurged on the il Fomagio appetizer- we thought it would be OK, but it ended up being a DELIGHTFUL treat!! Becky ordered Bolonase and I got a Genoa pizza with roast Mushrooms. Went to Da Vinci's right before the IU Game ended. Walked right in and sat down and had excellent service. We let our waitress know that we had never been before and she gave us some amazing recommendations, we decided on the Chicken Parmigiana with fettuccine and pomodoro (like marinara sauce) and a sausage and extra cheese pizza... we thought we would share it easily... Da Vinci is located on the corner with outdoor, dog friendly seating. There is metered street parking available, along with a paid parking lot right across the street. My husband, our little girl dog and I dined here this past Thursday night for dinner. We arrived around 7 pm and were seated immediately after checking in with the hostess. After looking over the menus, we ended up ordering: Large Pera Salad, $9 prior to tax- I had requested for the salad dressing to be on the side. This salad is made with arugula, pear slices, cold bacon, gorgonzola cheese. The size is good for 2 to share but also could make as a meal for one. I thought the salad was okay but I think I would have preferred the bacon to be heated and crumbled throughout. Complementary bread- We received this because we ordered pasta. The small basket of bread was probably about 9 small pieces of cold bread. Wasn't really anything special and was not flavored with anything. Bolognese, $16 prior to tax- One of my favorite pasta dishes to order at Italian restaurants, the sauce was very delicious. Loved the ground meat sauce and thought the noodles were perfectly cooked. But what I thought was off was that my dish came with a very large serving slotted spoon instead of a regular size spoon. Shrimp Penne, $17 prior to tax- My husband ordered this dish. The promodoro sauce had a light sweetness and was very creamy. This dish was well made. ------------------------ (Total= $44.94 after tax, prior to tip) Service was pretty lacking. The employee was somewhat better with the table next to us instead of us but hardly checked up on them. Our server never came out to refill our bottle of water and so I refilled it myself with the water jug outside (if it was for the guests to refill their own water bottle for the table, the server would have told us). My husband had to get me a new fork because I dropped it on the floor by accident. Food was excellent here but I would either try to sit in another server's area to avoid the poor service we had or just order my food to go if I was to dine here again. read more

My cousin always gets the seafood raviolis and it was good but they only give you a couple of them and it's mainly sauce. They give you bread too which is just plain white crunchy bread. We got told it would be a 30 minute wait. At 35 minutes a party of two that had been there for twenty minutes got sat at a 4 too and cut the line. We were told it was because they knew the manager. We then got told 30 minutes later they were going to sit us at a two top and we're sorry. We had 3 more parties slip in front of us and we were told it was because they ear marked a table for us for a party that paid and they were expecting to get up. We ended up getting sat after an hour and ten minutes and had a total of 4 parties jump in front of us all taking a four top. read more
