Well we woke up this morning had our daily email from Yelp and saw the one about a little American army truck food shack. So we decided to get on the scooter and go for lunch and was it worth. We had 2 combo 3 southern fried chicken which I think was 5 strips, Cajun chips which they put hit sauce and lime majo on and a drink all for £9 but with our Yelp discount £2 off. Staff were really friendly food was out of this world. The chicken was moist the covering was amazing. Was not greasy at all. Will def be coming back and recommending it to all our friends. Out of the collection of food vans in Corbet Place, I've noticed that Mother Clucker normally has the biggest queue. It's probably for that reason that I've never tried it before. I'd also assumed that given how popular it was, it must be really, really good. I finally managed to beat the queue today. So was it as good as I had hoped? Well, not quite. First the good bits: the portions are huge. I went for the Cluckwich with cajun fries. You get three massive strips of chicken in a bun with salad. For £7, you can get those with a drink, which is pretty good value. The cajun fries are pretty good but nothing special. On the negative side, I found the chicken a little bland. It could have done with a bit more flavour, and the ratio of batter to chicken was too high on the batter side for me. I probably would have preferred it a little moister too. Overall it was pretty good, and I would go back, but I'm not sure it was worth waiting in the queue, especially with Orange Buffalo next door, which I think is better. read more

Mother Cluckin' Good!! Saw this outside the markets and knew I had to have the mother clucker. Ordered the southern fried chicken burger with a side of seasoned fries. It was delicious!! Strips of crunchy juicy tasty fried chicken in the burger with pickled peppers and salad. Great use of toppings! The fries were paprika seasoned and was also epic. Mother Clucker is one of my guilty pleasures- first experienced at Model Market in Dalston in the form of a shared Cluckwhich- that's a mammoth sandwich of two slices of 'Texan toast' stuffed with a slab of fried chicken thigh and a slice of cheese- I've been visiting the Old Truman Brewery site ever since. The Cajun spices used to toss the French fires and in the batter is matchless, imparting both bold flavour and a kick of heat. The chicken strips are always perfectly tender with a crunchy batter coating and the meal deal- £9 for a drink, Cajun fries and chicken strips- is the ultimate hangover cure or a behemoth lunch for the hungry. The secret is that the meat is tea-brined, drenched in a buttermilk coating and fired twice. Serving out of a converted US Army ambulance, the staff are always very chatty, preparing everything in front of you and offering portions of hot pepper sauce and lime mayonnaise to your exact instructions. The Old Truman Brewery site is good because seating is often available in this less visited corner of a small cluster of excellent vendors, only a skip away from the bustling Old Spitalfields Market. Head down on a Sunday for a treat or hit them up for a hunger-busting lunch if you work in the Liverpool Street area. This is really ample and finger-licking good food that will make any belly happy. It's simple and perfectly made, seasoned well and immensely satisfying. You'll struggle to find better fried chicken that Mother Clucker's in any street food market in London. read more

Is it weird to say that some of the best Fried Chicken I have ever had was at a Food Truck in London? Cuz it's true! And I have spent a good amount of time in the Southern US. Oh how it pains me! Definitely 3 to 4 stars depending on how you look at it. I wanted to LOVE this place, and in some ways I did... but, the secret is in the sauce, or in some cases the lack thereof. First off, I'm writing this as a guy from Ga. in the southern U.S., and can honestly say that the chicken itself was cooked awesome... truly loved it. That sauce though, while not bad it was not what I needed... it almost felt criminal to not have something hotter to adorn the wonderfully fried chicken strips. Truth be told I took a few strips home, heated them in a halogen oven, and tossed them in buffalo sauce to which my heart sang. I liked the fries, and definitely appreciated the seasoning, but again... a sauce option, even if charged, would have been welcomed as an alternative to the two tiny pots of sauce that we're provided. Another bright spot is it seemed a decent value, especially for the portions. So for me personally, 3 to 3.5 stars, but for most I would imagine 4 if not higher... it's just a shame that it didn't live up to expectations so I write this in hopes that someone in my position goes in with eyes wide open... or better yet with a bottle of their preferred hot sauce in tow. :-D read more

Had the pleasure of trying the chicken strips and cheesy fries on Saturday at Hawker House. The queue was maaaoooosssivveee which I'm not all at surprised by. Was definitely worth the wait though, the strips were banging!!!! Literally!!! Soft, juicy, tender, and the sauce drizzled on top was such a delight, I wanted more!!! I had the pleasure of trying Mother Clucker at a wedding over this past weekend. As an American visiting from the states, I can gladly say this was the best fried chicken I've ever had. It was crispy, spicy, and still exceptionally moist. In fact, it was so good, I'm going to track down the truck to have it again before I leave London. I'm going to resist the temptation to sound like Samuel L. Jackson in the review, though it pains me to do so. I'm from Atlanta, Georgia so I like to think I know my fried chicken. With so many restaurants in my hometown proudly serving up traditional southern cooking I thought I'd be hard pressed to find any place that dished up some good ol' buttermilk battered chicken here. I had my doubts but I kept my hopes up and continued trudging forward like Sam even when Frodo was a dick to him. Now... I won't lie, I was pointed to this place by a list I found on Buzzfeed. I love street food and with London being such a global hub I thought they MUST have the best food trucks and in my first month here I found... zero. None. Zip. Zilch. I was slightly devastated though my wallet breathed a sigh of relief but then, I came across the Buzzfeed article: "21 London Street Foods That Will Change Your Life" and sure enough Mother Clucker was on there. I hopped on the chance to go. They have a home "base" near Old Truman Brewery which is a short walk away from Old Spitalfields Market. It was a dreary Saturday in London (though that's probably normal) and not a really great day to be outside eating but I was desperate to try this place. It seems that several people had the same idea as the food truck was a little backed up when I arrived, the lady operating the register curtly told me they weren't taking order's for 10 minutes. I was patient, happy to wait for the chance to have a taste of artery clogging fried goodness. I don't know how often they change their menu but they offered Chicken Strips and a Cluckwich as well as sides of Mac and Cheese and "Chips" (Fries... They're always going to be Fries for me). I ordered the Cluckwich, a crispy chicken breast with a Brioche bun, lime mayo, hot sauce, pickled peppers, and iceberg lettuce, and their Mac n Cheese which was super creamy served with an extra handful of cheese on the top. Totally not disappointed and I will definitely be coming back. Here's the thing I love about food trucks, they're able to serve amazing, simple food that people love out of a truck. It's like the movie Chef (if you haven't seen it, watch it). You take the show out of a restaurant and boil it down to what it's really about and it's about love of good food for a decent and reasonable price. The Cluckwitch was simply awesome, the chicken was fried freshly (whatever they put in their brine and batter, it's super tasty) and I really loved the spicy Cajun Fries. I'm quickly running out of humorous material relating to my love of fried chicken to introduce my fried chicken reviews with. I mean, I could start mixing it into memes and suchlike (in Soviet Russia, chicken fry YOU), but that would be jumping the shark a little bit. Anyway, if you haven't noticed, this is a mega-meta fried chicken introduction. Yes, please pat me on the back. Mother Clucker are located near the Truman Brewery off Brick Lane and serve cajun fried chicken strips. It's currently £8 for a pile of chicken strips, chips, and a drink - yeah, it's not cheaaaap. but you do get a lot of food for your dollah, so I have no problem with this. My impressions: it's decent fried chicken. Like, this is a good standard. At the same time, I'm not wowed by it. The chicken itself isn't particularly flavourful, the batter's not the crispiest, and it could do with a touch more seasoning. That said, the chicken is cooked well and it's never been dry for me. Getting the right balance is no easy feat - I've had some delicious chicken with soggy batter and some wonderfully crispy chicken tasting of nothing. MC mostly ticks the boxes, so I can overlook the fact that no part of it is particularly fantastic, and that as a package it works. Whilst the sauces aren't particularly memorable, I do love me some cajun fries. All in all, it's a 3.5 - 4* place. I'd happily come back here if I'm in the area. This place is AMAZING. I'm actually really shocked that it only has 4 stars- it should be at a solid five. My parents and I got the chicken strips, fried okra, spicy cajun fries, and mac and cheese. It was all FANTASTIC! The chicken was the best fried chicken I have ever had in my entire life. Also, I'm picky about my mac and cheese and theirs was great- went above and beyond the call of duty. Everything was really delicious and the sauces they give you with it (ranch and a slightly spicy sauce) were great too! Bonus- the chef is the *nicest* guy ever. He went out of his way to come out of the kitchen and see how we liked the food. He even told us a little bit about how they make their chicken! First off the food was great. Spicy Fries and a huge, crispy sandwich. Therefore I'd recommend giving it a try. For £9 you get a large sandwich, fries, and a drink. The only drawback was that the server seemed kind of stressed and distracted, and it wasn't all that busy at the time (we arrived at noon when they had just opened). We ordered three sandwiches and two were served quickly, while the third one waited for several minutes while a second round of chicken was fried up. This led to the first two sandwiches, which they had served up immediately, getting a bit cold. I admit it's a bit snobby but the ketchup they had in a large container outside was terrible, too sweet red sauce. I, personally, think it's worth splurging on a good brand of ketchup for your restaurant since it can so hugely detract from your otherwise excellent food. read more

This food truck has the best fried chicken in London. This is a must stop place for deliciously unhealthy food fanatics like myself. If you need some southern hospitality take on the strips, cajun fries, and Mac and cheese. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They do however need to stick to their times because they say they open at 12:00 and don't get around to opening until 12:30 sometimes. While it looks good in theory and the fries were really quite good, all in all not a good experience: the chicken strips were burned and also tasted like that - everyone else's strips seemed to look the same. No paper towels either, and a ginger beer i got was frozen solid in the middle. In retrospect I would have been better off at KFC (which I do not consider to be a good fried chicken place in case you're wondering). Expected a lot more for the price and seeing the Yelp previews. read more
