Authentic and cozy Indian food from the soul. My roommates from India took me to this restaurant, and they said it felt like stepping into a portal to their homeland. The interior is unabashedly Indian, and the server made us feel like guests in her home. Before this, I was mostly familiar with popular dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala and Samosas. But here, I got a real taste of Mumbai. I was introduced to new flavors and textures that transported me to another world. The Aloo Baingan (a spiced eggplant and potato dish) was flavorful and comforting. The Onion Bhaji had a satisfying crispy texture, kind of like an Indian onion ring. Missal Pav, a spicy vegetarian dish topped with nuts, was perfectly spiced and filling. The vegetable samosas were crispy and piping hot. They were especially good when dipped into the mint sauce, which genuinely touched my soul. Vada Pav was my favorite: a creamy potato patty sandwiched between soft buns, almost like a vegan slider. I'm sure I'm butchering some of these flavor descriptions with my East Asian and Western frame of reference, but it was all incredible. The Butter Chicken was sweet, savory, and rich, with perfectly juicy chicken. I scooped it all up with Garlic Naan and a soft, crispy Puri, eating mostly with my hands, which made the whole experience even more immersive and enjoyable. Just when I thought my stomach was going to explode, I decided to down a Mango Lassi for dessert. Needless to say, I had zero regrets and had the best sleep of my life afterwards. This was possibly the best Indian food I've had. My roommates, though, called it "bang average" by Indian standards. If that's true, I guess I need to move to India. But for LA? Easily some of the best Indian food I've tasted. I can't wait to discover more hidden Indian gems and expand my palate even further.

    Masala Dosa

It is not often that I visit or get a carry out from Mother India, on Devonshire in Chatsworth. And every time I do so, I keep telling myself that I should go more often to this cozy, small and superb Indian restaurant. This time we got mutton keema (minced mutton with spices and peas, a spectacular dish) and masala dosa (also prepared very well). The keema came with a portion of rice. Since it was a carry out, the dosa was split into one container and the sambar and potatoes were in separated containers. This process softens the dosa itself, not a problem for me, because it eliminates the too much crispness that often accompanies this dish in restaurant dining. Both the potatoes and sambar were full of memorable flavor, texture and taste. What disappointed me was that they forgot to include the dosa coconut chutney in the carry out order. This being one of my favorites for this item, I called the restaurant after I got home. They sincerely apologized, Then, as it transpired, I was in the vicinity the next day and I stopped by the restaurant to pick up my coconut chutney (I still had left overs, at home). While the crew was different, they kindly obliged, with a profuse apology. As it turned out, the replace chutney in question, that they supplied now, was old and rancid. I had to throw it out. But they also had included a complimentary item, for the trouble caused. Three amazing samosas. That is what I call superior customer service. We all make mistakes. And that is why, I need to be going back.

We drove from Pasadena to Chatsworth because we are Maharashtrian and my dad was craving Marathi food. It did not disappoint! From the excellent Kothimbir Bhaji and Pohay, to the fried pomfret and thali peeth, we were in heaven. The crowning glory was the fresh made Puran Poli. If you're sick of the same old Indian fare at most Indian restaurants and want an authentic subcuisine, I highly recommend Mother India for Marathi food. The proprietor Bharti and her daughter-in-law, Koyal, were very attentive to us and came and chatted and made us feel at home. We took home a large amount of food to go. I only wish it was closer to where we live.

Neighborhood Indian at its finest! Such a lovely group of people managing and working here. The food is freshly prepared. It's not salty, the flavors and aromatics are all subtle but intentional. The menu has some really interesting options and variations on traditional offerings. Can't wait to try more. The prices are fair. We had more than enough food and were happy to take the leftovers to go.

One of the best Indian foods I've had in Chatsworth. Service is great. Highly recommended for dine-in or take-out! Thumbs up!

The service here is amazing! The food is good, not the best India food I have had but if I ever come back to Chatsworth I would stop by again.

So back to the all you can eat, ordered pakoras and batter was sour. Then followed up with dosa, same thing with sour batter which is over fermented. Infact ordered a second serving to make sure I wasn't just tasting it. It's reasonable to assume that Thursdays all you can eat are leftover combinations from weekend preps. In terms of service, gap between the servings was over 10-11 minutes, and at the second serving, desserts were brought out when not asked for. Chutneys: not served unless asked for. Everything was off. The floor manager walked over and hinted at us leaving; not asking how the food was but when are you leaving vibe. Ambience has been like it was pre Covid. Not many customers on a weekday but that is perhaps because of demographics in the area. Weird thing about them trying to kick us out was that the restaurant wasn't even crowded but maybe becuase costs from our table were maxed out. Oh yes they also had a vegetable biryani as an appratizer which was served without raita of course. Overall, the place used to be great. Maybe still is but opt to go on weekends when it's crowded and food is maybe fresh. Another thing about ownership being form north in a South Indian restaurant are subtle changes where sambhar gets a jeera tadka or aalu pallya gets vegetables like carrots and peas. Avoiding for 6 months or so.

It's one of around a dozen small eateries in an industrial kitchen building, and they pass the savings on to you. It is family-run, and you may meet them all when you pick up your order - super friendly. But the most important thing to know is that the food is excellent, the portions are large, and they mash up a couple different kinds of cuisine in great ways. I had the chicken hakka noodles, which was sort of a Indian/Chinese dish withe terrific flavor. In fact I'm eating my leftovers now. My wife had the vegan combo, which was chana masala with rice, naan and raita. All were very good. We also got samosas and two Bombay Burgers, which was sort of like samosa filling on a hamburger bun with spicy topping. The total was just under $50 and we had plenty of food. The default spice level is medium - so remember to ask for mild if you need to (I had to scrape the topping off the Bombay burger - too much for me.) Or of course I';m sure they could make it hotter too! A great find, give them a try. Lots of other little mom and pop restaurants I can't wait to try there to try as well.

Very good and a must try! Add a bit of the Tikka Masala sauce on it - so good! Chicken Biryani $16.95 It was okay. On its own, it could have been more flavorful. Chicken Tikka Masala $16.95 You can pick spice level. Medium spice was just right. I love the bold flavor. Rich, creamy, tomato based and a little thick. Chicken was tender. The sauce is savory, tangy with slightly sweet notes. One of my favorite items! Tandoori Paneer $16.95 The aroma is amazing. Came with red bell peppers and onions. I didn't get so much of the smoky or char flavor. It had a firm texture, similar to firm tofu, but not slightly crumbly. It could be due to the size of paneer, which is more of a rectangle shape rather than cube shaped. Garlic Naan $3.50 Came with 2 pieces. They are soft, fluffy, and slightly chewy. Mild garlic flavor. Overall, they serve a diverse authentic menu, with vegetarian options. Prices are similar to Indian sit down restaurants but may be a bit more expensive from a ghost kitchen.
