I've been there twice. Very casual smaller restaurant with an excellent menu with lots of different Indian food from all over India not just the standard dishes. They are more serious about spice levels. Medium (my level) is about the Hot level in most Indian restaurants that cater to Americans. Their menu has lots of items that are not on most Indian restaurants. Nice selection of dishes from Goa and Southern India. Good selection of street foods. I have tried a lot of new dishes. Will go back to try more. The Puris are wonderful. Pashwari Nan was very good. Also the vegetable Samosas are some of the best my daughter and I have had. Service is very good and friendly. Restaurant appears very clean. Good table spacing. Handicap parking,and access including seating. It's A very casual restaurant. I wouldn't consider it a date restaurant. We ordered chicken tikka, chicken tandoori , kadai( recommended by the owner), saag paneer, and chicken naan and regular naan . Everything was great. What a cute place! I came here just because it was across the street from my acupuncturist, and am so happy I did! The food was wonderful and Bharati - not sure if she is owner/manager/server-- made us feel welcome and taken care of. I plan to come back after my next appointment to try some of the other dishes and see how the spice levels go. Authentic and cozy Indian food from the soul. My roommates from India took me to this restaurant, and they said it felt like stepping into a portal to their homeland. The interior is unabashedly Indian, and the server made us feel like guests in her home. Before this, I was mostly familiar with popular dishes like Chicken Tikka Masala and Samosas. But here, I got a real taste of Mumbai. I was introduced to new flavors and textures that transported me to another world. The Aloo Baingan (a spiced eggplant and potato dish) was flavorful and comforting. The Onion Bhaji had a satisfying crispy texture, kind of like an Indian onion ring. Missal Pav, a spicy vegetarian dish topped with nuts, was perfectly spiced and filling. The vegetable samosas were crispy and piping hot. They were especially good when dipped into the mint sauce, which genuinely touched my soul. Vada Pav was my favorite: a creamy potato patty sandwiched between soft buns, almost like a vegan slider. I'm sure I'm butchering some of these flavor descriptions with my East Asian and Western frame of reference, but it was all incredible. The Butter Chicken was sweet, savory, and rich, with perfectly juicy chicken. I scooped it all up with Garlic Naan and a soft, crispy Puri, eating mostly with my hands, which made the whole experience even more immersive and enjoyable. Just when I thought my stomach was going to explode, I decided to down a Mango Lassi for dessert. Needless to say, I had zero regrets and had the best sleep of my life afterwards. This was possibly the best Indian food I've had. My roommates, though, called it "bang average" by Indian standards. If that's true, I guess I need to move to India. But for LA? Easily some of the best Indian food I've tasted. I can't wait to discover more hidden Indian gems and expand my palate even further. read more

We ordered take out which took a while to receive, so never wait until you are starving to order from here... I suggest you plan ahead. The food was absolutely delicious. My favorite thing we tried was the chicken vindaloo with a side of raita. I will say though that I am a little underwhelmed by the bhindi masala, because it tasted a little burned to me. It is not often that I visit or get a carry out from Mother India, on Devonshire in Chatsworth. And every time I do so, I keep telling myself that I should go more often to this cozy, small and superb Indian restaurant. This time we got mutton keema (minced mutton with spices and peas, a spectacular dish) and masala dosa (also prepared very well). The keema came with a portion of rice. Since it was a carry out, the dosa was split into one container and the sambar and potatoes were in separated containers. This process softens the dosa itself, not a problem for me, because it eliminates the too much crispness that often accompanies this dish in restaurant dining. Both the potatoes and sambar were full of memorable flavor, texture and taste. What disappointed me was that they forgot to include the dosa coconut chutney in the carry out order. This being one of my favorites for this item, I called the restaurant after I got home. They sincerely apologized, Then, as it transpired, I was in the vicinity the next day and I stopped by the restaurant to pick up my coconut chutney (I still had left overs, at home). While the crew was different, they kindly obliged, with a profuse apology. As it turned out, the replace chutney in question, that they supplied now, was old and rancid. I had to throw it out. But they also had included a complimentary item, for the trouble caused. Three amazing samosas. That is what I call superior customer service. We all make mistakes. We drove from Pasadena to Chatsworth because we are Maharashtrian and my dad was craving Marathi food. It did not disappoint! From the excellent Kothimbir Bhaji and Pohay, to the fried pomfret and thali peeth, we were in heaven. The crowning glory was the fresh made Puran Poli. If you're sick of the same old Indian fare at most Indian restaurants and want an authentic subcuisine, I highly recommend Mother India for Marathi food. The proprietor Bharti and her daughter-in-law, Koyal, were very attentive to us and came and chatted and made us feel at home. We took home a large amount of food to go. Moved into Chatsworth recently and decided to try Mother India on a whim.... The food is FANTASTIC! So excited to find a new local Indian place just a few blocks away; probably the most delicious Indian food I've ever had. We ordered the Navratan Korma (AWESOME) Benghan bartha eggplant (DELICIOUS) and a few orders of garlic naan. My daughter ordered a cauliflower and potato dish with tomato sauce and my husband ordered a butter chicken dish.... Everyone was beyond happy. One thing to keep in mind: this food has a kick. So glad we ordered mild, because I wouldn't be able to handle medium. It definitely has some heat. Everything was prepared perfectly, spiced to perfection. Downsides: we were hoping for a white basmati rice and I think they might use a brown rice. Wasn't bad just not what we prefer. Also wish they had a sweet chutney offered, maybe I missed it on the menu, didn't ask, but I love to add a bit of sweet. This place is a block away from my kids house. We love get take out when we visit and by luck we found Mother India. We put in an order with 2 curries, prawns, samosa and naan a half hour before closing and they had no problem preparing and having it ready for us. We had to get everything mild for my sissy husband and the food was still so full of flavor-just not hot. Pick up was easy and the dining room was very tidy when we showed up. Great food. The vegetable samosa are the best I've ever had. The whole family was raving. We ordered too much naan-4 orders for 4 people is a lot, maybe next time we will get two. We did take-out from here. Very reasonably priced. The Coconut Curry Chicken is one of their signature dishes. The chicken breast was tender and the sauce a fabulous flavor. Generous on the chicken. Comes with white rice. It was excellent! It was different from all other curries we have had. The Fried Fish was incredibly good. They marinate the fish in spices and then fry it. Coconut Curry Chicken w/ sauce and rice. Flavorful and a bit different than the usual fare. Our group of three liked this one. 2. Fried Fish - tender pieces with rice (no sauce). Our favorite dish -- would get this again. 3. We ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala but what showed up in the bag when we got home was Tandori Chicken. Too much hassle to go back and exchange so we tried it and all thought it was EXTREMELY SALTLY to the point where it was unedible. Such a shame as two dishes for three people wasn't enough food. It was so authentic that it reminded us of Kolhapuri home food. Along with that, the restaurant owner gave us complimentary Zunka & Bhakri! So exquisite! She suggested us some chef's special dishes. We ordered chicken samosas which were so good, there was a green sauce that it came with that was a little too spicy for my liking but the red sauce was perfect. I ordered the coconut chicken curry (and would definitely be ordering it again), I got the mild version and luckily it was not spicy at all. The food was good i purchased samosas and tandoori chicken which i haven't had in years it also came with naan, it did not disappoint, the only thing I was a little surprised by was the size of the tandoori chicken pieces for the price. Sometimes when you aren't familiar with a certain cuisine, it can be a little daunting asking about it. Where I feel people should be happy to share the culture, sometimes you are made to feel dumb, or mocked for not knowing. That is not the case here. We have only eaten here twice now, as it's a bit farther away than we would usually go for a meal. But I am happy to make the drive now, knowing our food tastes fresh, and the staff is so helpful! Honestly, I'm a weenie when it comes to spicy food, so even some of their mild dishes are still spicy to me! So, my favorite thing in the menu is butter naan and raita !! The chicken tikka is also a winner for the weak! I ordered the coconut curry for my heat loving son, and decided to try the sauce on naan.... I felt that burn in my chest! I'm vegetarian most days so I normally order the saag paneer, chickpea channa masala, naan bread, and vegetable samosas. Today I tried the okra bhindi masala. There was yummy in there! It was roasted with other vegetables. It tasted like a meat dish. You could eat this with just the rice and you'd feel satisfied. It didn't have that slimy orka texture. Located in a shopping plaza, lots of parking. I ordered take out here because I really craved masala dosa's and now that I live in the valley I am far from my fav dosa place (Bhanu's). I ordered by phone but I highly recommend you orders via Yelp or through grubhub. I say this because the older gentleman who works there is not the fastest, but very very kind! The food was decent. The masala dosa was extremely oily and it's hard to like dosas as take out cause they get soggy. We also ordered the chicken tikka and that was good. My husband ordered the Vada Pav, a street food hamburger. He began crying while eating it, I was confused. But it was so spicy he cried and got dizzy. He said it was okay and if we ever order this again, he will ask for the sauce on the side. I think this place was just okay. read more

Second time here . The sign on door says they open at 11am M-Sat. Both times I came for lunch 11:30 and both times walked into an empty restaurant with one person working. The first time it was a host second time it looked like a cook who barely knew English. I understand businesses are expensive to run but I don't want to eat at a restaurant where my food is being cooked by someone who doesn't know what they are doing or doesn't have any passion. The food is decent but it's not worth me sitting here getting poor service. I have been here for 25 min and haven't been given water or asked what I want to drink.....because there's only one staff member working !!! If you own a restaurant i would expect you to run it. Living in Chatsworth since April we are still finding hidden jems! Recently I looked online to find an Indian Restaurant having read reviews and looked on yelp we did an order to be delivered. We decided on the fried fish chicken coconut curry garlic naan and 2 types of Rice! WOW food was delivered in under 30 mins it was incredible we ate every bite! The two dishes we ordered are favorites of people online and they did not disappoint. This will be our go to from now on if I could give more than 5 star I would! read more
