Took me long enough to post here again. This gem is located in heart of Northridge. And probably the best Indian food this part of the valley. I've enjoyed a few trips and its been a while until this visit. The food and service were excellent. We ordered a good selection and shared everything family style. It's the best way to go to try as many dishes as you can. All were my favorite.The chicken. The goat. The rice. And out of the park garlic naan with cheese served piping hot. Amazingly good. That naan alone can be a good snack. The staff was the super friendly as I remembered. The restaurant also as I remembered, cozy and clean. And now for my closing pro-tips. We had every intention to go to the Honey Baked Ham next door but once we smelled the flavors of Village Tandoor we went left to it instead. It was lunch time, only a few people were dining so we had a pick of tables. The vibes and decor are nice. I was very happy with my meal. I got the Chef's Choice Combination. Choice of meat. I thought it was only a meat curry but we got to pick any dish. I got my favorite chicken tikka masala. Comes with veggie rice, aloo gobi, dal and a choice of salad or raita. My dinner comes with naan AND tandoori chicken. I never had Mulligatawny soup and it was delicious. It was filling and ended up taking most of my food home. Spice level was perfect, mild, super baby spice mild. The naan was freshly made and came out hot. "Shoop" our server was fantastic. Very friendly and very helpful. I forgot my combo came with Tandoori chicken and he brought it out right away. Very large restaurant. LOVE the decor. I've reviewed this a few times but it's food and services has descended into chaos, food is unfortunately oily (had a stomach ache), servers were young girls acting like they're in a hurry to go home and bathroom has a weird smell. I usually enjoy my goat recipe with their rice but today, I had a stomach ache after lunch. I was recalling the rice dish which was too oily and felt old and mushy. While I was having lunch, the two very young girls keep asking me if I'm ready to pay for my bill? Good gosh, can't you wait for people to freely leave and enjoy their food first? Can't you girls allow your customers to check on their phones and see if work colleagues need me for anything? Okay, so the food seems to be reheated and not fresh. Oh my, the fruits were old too. I shared my frustration to these ladies and without anything like apologies from them, I headed to the restroom. As soon as I entered the restroom, the smell was unbearable ...I just ran and left the restaurant. My daughter discovered this restaurant while living at Cal State Northridge. It quickly became her favorite Indian food restaurant in the area. Since then, she has taken me and other family members there several times. Last night we enjoyed a post honors convocation celebration at Village Tandoor. My daughter, my two nephews, and me shared lamb vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, yellow daal, and saag paneer. The rest of our party got their own dishes. We like our food spicy so that's how we ordered it. It was all so delicious. The staff is all very friendly and helpful. The only time we felt weird at all was when we asked for several containers to take our leftovers to go. The gentleman who helped us seemed annoyed by our request, but the food was so good that we wanted to take every little bit of leftovers to go, which the staff and the cooks should take as a compliment. :-) Thank you so much to Village Tandoor for serving us another great meal! Fresh garlic on top! Lots of cheese! Perfect! Everything is a la carte btw so you do have to order everything separately. Service wise they were friendly and honest! Told us what we wanted to order would make two people full and they were not wrong! Didn't try to get us to order more. Allowed us to sit at the comfortable tables while waiting! It came out hot and fresh! Inside was nice! Lots and lots of seating! Private parking lot so it's not hard to find a spot! The first time I went there was for the lunch buffet and I highly recommend it. You can test out a bunch of different types of food. My favorites were the Coconut Chicken Curry and the Chicken Biryani. I have ordered both of those since that day. Always delicious. The service is quick and personable. It's not that the food wasn't good It was good, limited, but still good. in my opinion however the pricing is deceptive, They tell you one price which was around 18 dollars Then it jumped to 26 dollars and he's looking at me for tip as well. I was on a budget so I factored in tip but not 30 dollars for a 18 dollar meal. It felt deceptive, a heads up that the actual price will be around 30 dollars would have been more transparent and acceptable giving the option to think it over and accept it. But lying to me and then catch a slight attitude when I believe you deceived me and I'm now wondering if I should leave a tip at all which I did, but made a decision that I will not be returning back to that restaurant. I've been going to Village Tandoor for over 5 years and it has never disappointed with its consistently fast service and delicious food! They offer a widespread buffet during lunchtime, but you can always order from their regular menu. The Chef's Choice Dinner can feed 2-3 people depending on how hungry you are and it's extremely affordable for such a great portion! (~ $20) It comes with your choice of curry, tandoori chicken, several sides, naan and a side of soup. My go-to curries are the chicken korma and the makhani. The makhani is perfect if you enjoy a sweeter curry. Spice levels are customizable! read more

The food was really good, I'm basic so I got the tikka masala, garlic naan, chicken and shrimp biriyani, chicken and potato samosas (it was all for my family and I). The ambiance and decor was pleasing, they had tvs and statues around and of course the restaurant smelled amazing. But, the biggest thing that drags my review down was the service. The waiter was very impatient and seemed a bit annoyed with us, to be fair we got there around 8:30 and they closed at 10 according to google so I understand being tired and wanting to get us in and out quickly. However, we didn't feel welcome at all and it definitely ruined the experience a bit. It was added so fast she could not have washed it The service was horrible, the male waiter gave us attitude everything we requested a refill on our drinks or for him to remove a plate. The waiter had to be flagged down for service. The owners were there and the woman looked so mean...she did not smile once . My husband tried to great her and she looked right past him. Chicken tikka masala was a hit. Creamy, bold, exactly how it should be. Buffet had all the goodies--everything you'd expect and more. Naan was fresh and on point. Bathroom was decent. Staff was nice. It feels like a full, satisfying meal now. I've tried a few different things but my go-to is the chicken with vegetables, garlic cheese naan, and samosas. Everything is always on point. I ordered today through DoorDash. So this is a review strictly for food quality. It was amazing. My husband and I ordered, mushroom chicken, chilli chicken?? I think the name was and chicken tikka masala.. along with sides of basmati rice, naan bread and garlic naan bread. The portions are pretty big for the price, I think it's priced fairly. You could definitely share. Maybe one entree for 2-3 people. Depending on how much you eat. If you're portioning food out decently, it's definitely shareable sizes. Their rice is cooked to perfection... we only got chicken because i don't really eat anything else other than chicken and beef. The chicken entrees were packed with flavor. The chicken tikka masala was not spicy. Maybe just the tiniest but, The mushroom chicken was a bit Spicy and so was the chilli chicken one. It's been a while since we have been to this restaurant but as one of our favorite local Indian restaurants we were excited to go back. The food was good but not on par as it has been in the past. Why change the onion bahji's to onion rings? It definitely did not hit the spot. Please go back to original onion bahji recipe. The waiter made a mistake when we ordered chicken tikka masala and delivered chicken tikka. He then proceeded to argue that it was what we ordered. As Brits we know our Indian food. He then served luke warm chicken tikka masala. It tasted good but too tired to argue to ask them to heat it up. My Fish Mahi Mahi was delicious and the Pilau Rice. Overall the food was good but the grumpy waiter did put a down play on our evening. Maybe he was having a bad day. Maybe he was the owner I don't know. Over the past 20 years, more off than on, I have been coming to Village Tandoor. In the early days, their buffet was a sought after luncheon treat. The eatery was always crowded. At that time, there was an elegance and freshness in the spread, that is still easy to remember. After the shuttering of buffets due to Covid, and my long absence before and after the pandemic, I longed for another visit to this restaurant at the junction of Devonshire and Reseda, in Northridge. I came here solo, to reminisce and savor their lunch buffet. It now runs at $15.95, and there is no more garlic naan in the package. It is 1.50 extra. Glad I ordered it. Because, it was the only item that had a good bite and mouth feel. All the buffet items lacked taste, freshness and flavor. The chicken biriyani, vegetable pilau, were bland and dry. Curries lacked vibrancy. Tandoori chicken, though moist, lacked char, dense fragrance and aroma. They had one of my favorite appetizers, the chili pakora, but they were dry and luke warm. Both the soups - lentil and mixed vegetable were lackluster. However, the chutneys, both the green and brown were good, with body, depth and texture. What a difference, the years make. read more

Not very busy for dinner time. Clean place. Fun decor upon entering. Bathroom was clean and nicely decorated. Staff was strange towards us. Not very welcoming. They tried to take away my wine before I finished. They didn't offer us anything else. We got there a little after opening time for dinner. The beer and wine selection was good. The prices were different on the menu than on our bill which wasn't good. They have dedicated vegetarian and vegan options on the menu which is wonderful but I still recommend you double triple check with staff that there is no animal products or dairy when you order. They seem to be confused and had to recheck with cooks a couple times. The food was delicious especially the vegan tofu tikka masala. Would love to go back when we are in the area and hope the waitstaff is more welcoming. read more

Fragrant Indian food, great for delivery and lunch buffet. Huge menu with certain dishes that are reliably delicious. My family's favorite dishes are coconut curry, Naan, samosas, and chicken Tikka. In general, their chicken dishes have been good. When we've tried they're lamb and mutton dishes, those have been chewy and hard. The biryani is something we didn't like because it was mushy. The service is not bad. There is always a waiter and always tables available. We've never needed to wait. And there's always parking in the lot. read more

We've tried most (if not all) of the Indian delivery places around us and this is my favorite for price and flavor. Paneer Tikka Masala: 10/10 super flavorful. I'm not vegetarian anymore but I still love the cheese cubes in their awesome sauce versus chicken. Vegetable pakoras: 10/10 deep fried, seasoned crispy veggie balls. I love to dip them in the sweet tamarind sauce or creamy raita. Gobi Manchurian: 10/10 if your go-to order is "cauliflower wings" anywhere else you need to try this. This was our first time trying this, if it was fresh in the restaurant it would probably be even better. It tasted like Indian food and Chinese food got married... Or a super charged Beijing beef sauce from Panda Express. Spicy but worth taking a Tums. Naan: was what you'd expect. I like to know how many pieces I get with a delivery order and they don't really tell you. In the photo I attached the top piece you see is one half order of naan. We ordered "two naan" and it came with four of that size pieces of naan. Side sauces were perfect. Generous portions, even when we "splurge" on dinner here as two people we get another full dinner out of it. read more

My siblings and I came here for Sunday lunch to satisfy an Indian food craving and hands down, it was satisfied. You can check my photos to see the menu and everything available that day at their $22 lunch buffet. After looking through the menu, I felt that the lunch buffet was the more worth-it option despite it being $22 a person (an initially very shocking price for me and my siblings). For $22, I got a single serving of naan, unlimited drinks like the Shirley Temple, three rice options, 2 deep fried options, 4 dessert options, 2 fruit options, a salad bar, 2 soup options and a bunch of different curries and entrees. The value of the lunch buffet came in the variety of foods that I had access to. I didn't have to settle for just one flavor. The last Indian place my family went to, we were charged about $20 for each dish and the bowls were small and we left being barely filled. But I left Village Tandoor a few pounds heavier and a lot happier. Everything tasted authentic. Sometimes, it can be difficult to make a bunch of curries taste different but they've nailed that with their varying aroma and spice profiles. Downsides to the buffet are that once something runs out, they don't seem to refill it. That was the case with the samosas and chile packhora. The samosa was very flavorful despite its small size. I'm sad they didn't refill it after it ran out. I only got to try one. I also wish they had more vegan options. The Daal makhni and lentil soup seemed to be the only 2 protein options for vegans and they weren't very flavorful. However, I appreciate how vegans and vegetarians could get a well balanced meal out of the buffet, although not as much variety. The staff waited on us like butlers whose livelihood depended on it. When we needed something, they were there. When our plates were finished, they immediately cleaned them up. Before they started closing up the buffet, they asked if I wanted to get one final plate. Very friendly, fast and polite. However, one server told us that additional naan was included in the buffet but we were charged $2 for that additional serving of butter naan. Maybe it was because it wasn't the plain naan that we got charged but I wish they'd made that clearer because our server made it very clear that garlic naan would be additional charge but didn't say the same for the butter naan. They have a special champagne brunch buffet on Sundays where you can get what I believe is unlimited champagne with your meal. I didn't have any but the table near us was definitely filling up on it. The staff noticed they were having a little too much to drink and tried to convince them to stop, citing drunk driving as their main concern but the customers refused and the staff continued to serve them. I saw it as very thoughtful of the staff to be considerate of the public's wellbeing. The establishment seems entirely Indian owned and run. The decor appears very culturally accurate, reminding me of the paintings that my family has from our own culture. Plenty of seating. Lots of stuff to look at and be entertained by. read more

Let me start with the pros: + Ambiance: this place is clean, spacious, and overall, has a good vibe. Unfortunately, the pros stops there. The a la carte food is not cooked well. Yes the sauces tastes good, but the paneer and kofta aren't marinated in them properly; the kofta was dry and the paneer pieces bland. The naan was fine. Regarding the buffet, the vegetarian options aren't good, and the quality of the non-veg (according to those in our group that ate from it) was average. For vegetarians, I suggest adding samosas, tikkis, and a paneer dish. Also the service was subpar. The gentlemen weren't friendly or engaging at all. Love this place! The staff are always super nice and welcoming and help you out whenever you need. Constantly checking up on us, as well, which is great. The restaurant has comfortable seats, nice decor, a good vibe, and a clean environment. Even their bathrooms. I've only gone for their buffet. Everything's always a hit every single time. All their meats (and basically everything) are always so perfectly seasoned and tender. Spices are the right level. I get their goat, chicken or beef briyani, and chicken curry. Can't forget the garlic naan! It's on the drier side at this spot, but good nonetheless. Sometimes, they have samosas in the buffet, but if not then we order it on the side. I come back for these! They have so many options to choose from. Their chai tea is the best! It does come piping hot and unsweetened. Since I'm more of a cold beverage drinker, I order a cup of ice on the side and add about 5 sugar packets. 10/10 read more

We ordered on DoorDash our standard order but for some reason the spicy levels were defaulted higher than we normally expected. Therefore when we got the order, the food was so spicy it was practically inedible. We thought that the restaurant would be understanding but all I got was dirty looks from the wait staff and lack of empathy. The manager/owner asked us to call DoorDash again but I just felt disrespected overall. Sometimes a restaurant isn't about only the food. It's about their care for the customers experience. Sorry to say today was the worst possible experience - and on my birthday too. There are better Indian restaurants in the valley. Next time try Tulsi. read more

Very disappointed. Not only the food was not ready for at least half hour after it was supposed to be but it also was barely warm once I got home - 15min later and tasted less than mediocre. I usually order from Mother of India in Chatsworth but they were closed this Sunday. If you're anywhere close to that please do yourself a favor and order there instead. And no - I am in no way affiliated other than I order food from there. And that is the best Indian place in my opinion that I have tried in this area.
