I can say that 'cuz we are, ahem, kinda professionals when it comes to bars, and especially local-type dive bars............ 8-)........and yes, we wear that badge proudly! As others have pointed out, Mo's is unique in its "diveyness" but in a great way. Yes, one might call it a "biker bar" (especially on weekends). However, truth be told, it's really a good 'ol fashioned neighborhood kinda bar - the kind where it would be very rare (and very weird) to not see numerous of our friends there at any time, on any given day. Even if you're not a local, you won't be a stranger for long. No attitudes here! The inside has got a lotta charm. Here's what you'll get: peanut shells on the floor, jukebox in one corner with some pretty kick ass music, rickety/mismatched chairs, tables and bar stools, an ancient window mounted fan (critical in the summertime when it's crowded), somewhat questionable restrooms, bras and panties hanging from the ceiling, currency stapled everywhere with various notes, names, phone numbers and the like (yes, we have a few submissions up there as well)....you get the picture right? Sometimes on the weeknites, and most weekend afternoons and evenings, there are live bands rockin the house. The Roadkill Kings are a staple there, and their music is awesome - a mixture of blues/country/rock & roll - you never know what they're gonna play, but I defy you to not get up and dance, or at least sit in your chair with a huge grin on your face. As far as the bar goes, you won't find friendlier bartenders anywhere - 2 of our faves are Jennifer during the weekdays and Alison at night/weekend days. You will always have a coldie in front of you, nonstop baskets of peanuts, and we also sometimes order a pizza delivery from Sunset Pizza next door (which I previously yelped about). What a waste. I drove over an hour in traffic to hear my brother's band play, only to find out the lady cancelled them because the band had the audacity to bring their drum set. From what I hear, the lady was making a scene about it in front of customers. Just ridiculous. Way to ruin the atmosphere and a potential good evening. Driving through to Huntington beach came across this spot. Totally nice spot. Drinks were nice and strong. Filled up on nuts. Friendly crowd composed of mostly locals. It's a biker bar, but incredibly friendly. Lots of people appear to be regulars and know the bartenders name. They serve BIG mason jar beers or small mason jar beers. Two larges rang up at $18.00, that's fair. The beau and I showed up to see our band play, it was standing room only but everyone was into the band which is always nice to see even if a couple of games are playing on the tv. I'm not sure we'd stop in again without our friends band playing, but maybe. It's on our list for good draft beers at least. read more

We have been to Mother's before and had excellent service even when it has been wall to wall people, but tonight...ugh! I think his name was Jay. He was friendly, served us drinks and then talked to his blonde friend at the bar for 1/2 hour. We had empty drink for some time and I had to interrupt him to order another round. The same thing still occured after the second round. There just wasn't much customer service. He seemed more concerned about talking to his friend them serving customers. We were very disappointed. It will be awhile before we go back or we will go when another bartender is there. read more

This was my first visit to Mothers and I have to say, I love this place!!! Went on a Saturday around 2:30 just to grab a quick drink and check it out. Ended up staying for 2 and wished we lived closer so we could have stayed longer. They had a live band that was just getting started at 3 and they were pretty good, especially considering it was the middle of the day on a Saturday. I was not expecting that. The people there were all very friendly and made us feel right at home. I REALLY wish this place was closer to home, I would go all the time. I would recomend Mothers for sure!! We wondered in on a Saturday afternoon and were pleasantly surprised to hear a band called Road Kill Kings. A mix of blue grass rock type of band. It's a very small bar, but fun to sit and meet the locals, hear some music and enjoy a cold beer. We will definitely return to enjoy this little hole in the wall bar. read more

What to say about Mother's.......? I've been told it was the original ticket booth for the red line train which kinda makes sense. If your idea of a perfect weekend afternoon is watching a great band in a tiny usually standing room only place this is your spot. I could talk about the stuff stapled to the ceiling but everybody has covered that. My favorite thing is in a world of political correctness Mothers has survived. Not going into details on the infractions incurred on a daily basis as HBPD is now in charge of Sunset. Hopefully they are too busy with the HB Gangsta Douchebags to come down this way much. Since some asshole complained they are no longer allowed to have the smoker in front serving awesome BBQ but you can still bring in food from the many good neighborhood joints. Well I wrote a review about Mother's Tavern on Facebook. They didn't have the courage to post the review so I'm doing it here, it just will not be as lengthy. I went to Mother's Tavern to see one of my favorite bands perform, the Pasadena Playboys. I drove two hours to see this band play. The band never got to play, because they were turned away due to lack of communication between the bar staff and bar manager. Their bar manager went on a drunken tirade that was one of the most unprofessional displays I have ever witnessed. She was sitting at the bar drinking for quite some time prior to the bands arrival. Once the band got there, she saw they were bringing in their drums. It is a band, after all. Anyway, she had a major problem with this and in a drunken rage, embarrassed herself, the staff, the customers, the band, and any other living creatures there to witness it. As I write this review, I'm realizing that I just saw a human being that actually needs help. It's sad, and disappointing. I also found out later that the band was NOT compensated AT ALL, for their time or travel. How pathetic and unprofessional!!! I'm not surprised though. Those things tend to happen when you have management like her leading the way. The bar itself is nice, as is the staff. Hopefully they get rid of their problem, the bar manager, that way they can reach their full potential. Till that happens, I will NEVER recommend this bar to anyone!!!!!!! read more

This is a friendly local biker bar in Sunset Beach, between Seal Beach and Huntington Beach on PCH. If you blink, you'll miss it. On weekends, they have live music and cheap beer. I typically stop here on my way down PCH on my bike. The beer is cheap, the music is good, and the people are always friendly. Always a great time. Had a gay old time at Mothers Tavern on Friday night. Deff a 30's-40's bar, I was probably the youngest of the crowd and stood out like a sore thumb, lol but for real. $4 beers, no complaints.
