Chain rubbing against exhaust

tl;dr: This is an unsafe company. Do NOT rent bikes from them. I rented a red Ducati Scrambler from Moto 4 All to ride with my friend. It looked fine, and seemed to start with no issue. We rode down Sunset Blvd, and I began to notice a loud hollow rattling sound emanating from the left side of the engine that got louder when deaccelerating. I pulled over but couldn't determine the source of the noise. Frankly, being new to Ducatis, I wasn't sure if it was expected behavior for them (spoiler: it wasn't). We continued down Sunset for a few more minutes. Approaching a stoplight, I began to tap the rear brake gently...and suddenly, the rear of the bike begin to slide out from under me. I let up, regained control, and gently tapped it again. Again, the bike began to slide. Regaining control once again, I pulled the front brake to avoid slamming into traffic that had stopped at the red light ahead. My riding buddy pulled up next to me as we rode, gesturing frantically. "You're leaking oil!" he shouted. Looking down, I saw plumes of smoke coming off the bike. I quickly pulled over and turned off the engine. The entire rear of the bike had been completely covered with oil. After pulling off onto the sidewalk and inspecting the situation, it still wasn't clear what had gone wrong, but the sheer volume of the oil on the road and on the bike made it obvious that a huge leak had sprung from somewhere. What's more, as I was on my knees looking at the bike, I noticed two fresh-looking grooves ground into the swingarm and exhaust chamber by the chain that accounted for the rattling sound I kept hearing. I think it's unlikely that these problems had anything to do with each other. We called Moto 4 All and asked for a replacement bike. The owner and an employee came out and got me on a different Scrambler. All in all, the amount of time lost was about two hours due to this event, which meant we would not be able to ride up into the hills as we'd planned. Pretty big bummer--but frankly, at this point I was happy to be safe and unhurt. The new bike ran fine, and we were able to finish our trip up to Malibu, then out to the desert and back over the next several days. However, upon returning to LA and getting gas, I was looking at the rear tire of the replacement Scrambler, and noticed that it had been worn so thin, the metal wiring was showing through in the middle. To be clear, I did not in any way subject this tire to undue stress. No burn outs, no skidding to a stop, reasonable speeds on turns, and in general. When I returned the bike, I mentioned to the employee that the tire was worn through, and her reply was to laugh, and say "That is the last trip for this tire". No shit. I guess answers for why I was riding two unsafe bikes around won't be forthcoming. And that's just it. These bikes are NOT SAFE. Oil splattering all over your rear wheel, and on the road behind you for your friend to ride into is NOT SAFE. Chains grinding against the frame are NOT SAFE. Worn tires are NOT SAFE. This business seems to have purchased a bunch of random bikes from folks, turned them around to rent, and utterly failed to do the minimum level of maintenance to ensure they are safe and reliable. Bikes aren't like cars. You can do a bad job maintaining a car, and if something bad happens, you'll likely still be okay. But when something goes wrong on a motorcycle, there's no seatbelt, no airbag, no protective cage around you to prevent you from getting badly hurt. It goes south very quickly. My friend and I were lucky this time. Increase your own luck by avoiding bikes owned by this business like the plague.

I own a 2020 Lexus 450RX SUV. I had the bad fortune of purchasing it on the cusp of COVID and, as a…read moreresult, it's mostly snoozed in my garage for the last five years, accumulating a grand total of 12,000 miles. In connection with a planned 2000 mile trip, I took the SUV to my long-time mechanic, Ise Automotive, in Los Feliz. When I picked up the car, I was told that there was something "odd" about the Michelin tires on the vehicle and that I should have them checked out by a tire expert. He recommended American Tire Centers, with whom he'd done business for decades. I was skeptical, as I'd put very few miles on the tires, but nevertheless called American to determine when I might have them inspected. Vahe ("Vic") said I could bring in the vehicle the same afternoon. When I arrived, the lot was filled with cars under some stage of repair or replacement. Nevertheless, Vic turned immediately to examining my Michelin tires. To my untutored eye, they looked pristine. However, after completing his inspection, Vic said that due to their age, the rubber was separating from the material beneath. This, he told me, is why tire warranties are valid for a maximum number of Miles (usually 50,000) OR time period (in this case, five years). It was clear I was going to have to replace the tires. The question, then, was "With what?" At the age of 80, I am a "careful" consumer. When I'm teeing up to buy a product or to commission a service, I do my homework. In this case, however, it had largely been done for me. Paired with a string of online recommendations attesting to the honesty of the shop, I also had absolute confidence in my mechanic of several decades, who had sent me to Vic with his endorsement. I purchased a set of four new Michelins. Vic said he'd do an alignment only if it were necessary. The next morning (less than 24 hours after I'd been advised by my mechanic to have an expert inspect the tires), the car was ready for pickup. Vic told me to bring it back for inspection when I returned from my trip. Conclusion: I could not have been happier or more impressed with the treatment accorded me by Vic and his colleagues. They were professional, prompt and, I believe, honest in their pricing. Based upon my experience, I've no hesitancy in recommending them without reservation.

However, I took my car "that I've always taken to the dealer for an oil change" here. And the next day it was leaking oil everywhere. Unfortunately, I wasn't in town to bring it right away, and had to bring it back to the shop about 2 weeks later . (Still leaking btw) they said it was the "gasKeT" and I would have to pay another $48 to get this repaired. They said I should have brought it the day after i got the oil changed. Later after all the back and forth they offered to cover the costs for labor ,but I would have to pay for the part. Which was $3. I did not expect for them to charge me at all considering i had returned literally about 2 weeks later. (And called them over the phone twice to advise what was going on" They said i was "taking advantage" and told me god was watching. They said there was no way of knowing the part was damaged or defective . In my opinion they should have checked the gasket while doing the oil change . I ended up paying $10 which I didn't feel was fair but; at least they could pay off their $3 part they replaced. Next day after the lecture and "repair" ITS LEAKING AGAIN! haaaahahah now I have to go to the dealer and figure out what they broke on my car. I'm glad I didn't pay the $48 the second time around considering I came in with a car that was perfectly fine and left with a leaking car . THANK YOU LA TIRES AND AUTO BODY SHOP !!! :) I've spent $120 total for oil, filter, labor, a "gasket" and now I have a car with a bigger problem and NO OIL . DO NOT GO HERE !
