Motor Motion is a top notch auto service establishment. Their customer service is 2nd to none and I am so happy to have found a mechanic I feel I can trust. Caleb is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and he must be contagious bc everyone done there is kind and acknowledges you. The best thing about them is they work with you in regards to all the inconviences of taking a car to the mechanic. They've helped me out by dropping my car off at my work when service was complete because it was going to be too hard to get there in time. They offer rides or rental cars, they provide a detailed packet of information of everything they observed including pictures. You don't have to just take their word for a problem they will explain it and show you. They've earned my trust and I recommend everyone to give them a try! read more

This place is terrible. I'm a self taught amateur mechanic (I have taken many of the MJC classes to become a certified mechanic). I have the most difficulties with electrical (I failed the MJC class). Lucky me, on my car I had an electrical problem I couldn't diagnose. I took my car to motor motion for electrical diagnosis ONLY, and even told them that when I dropped off the car. They called me four days later and asked me to come in. They told me they had ordered over $600 in parts, and tried to bill me over $1000. The owner even said, I know you wanted diagnosis only, but to properly diagnose I had to order the new parts to confirm what was wrong (it was a coil pack, btw). I refused, and asked him to take the parts off. He pleaded me to let him charge me for the labor of atleast replacing the new parts with the old again. Like a wuss (to peer pressure) I caved (thinking it was only a ".5" hour tops). Nope, came back next day to a bill for 1 hour diagnosis, and 2 hours of labor? Once I got my hands on some quality used coil packs I found that not only did it take me about 4 minutes to swap the bad one with the good one (which they charged me 2 hours extra labor for), but they had told me it was the #3 pack that was bad when it was actually the #5 pack (the numbers are standard, not like my common nissan had weird numbering). This, unfortunately, took ME 2 hours to figure out why they had written it down wrong. It was very clearly written on my inflated bill. I believe they were upset they didn't get to make me sign their b.s. charges so they lied to me and make my life more difficult. Vengefulness is nothing I would ever want in a mechanic. read more

A couple of weeks ago, we were in a very stressful situation when it seemed that there was something dreadfully wrong with the transmission on our Dodge Van. We were stranded, and when the AAA Tow truck arrived, they towed our van (after 5:00 pm) to Motor Motion and we had to leave the key in a slot and talk with them in the morning. My experience with Motor Motion over the next few days was absolutely wonderful. Tinna and Nicole sort of took us under their collective wing, guided us through the intricacies, explained our options and the related costs and helped calm us down and ensured that what needed to be done, got done!!! After experiencing some starting issues with my 2006 Chevrolet Malibu, I called around to a few shops for some service/repair quotes. Greg at Motor Motion was the only person willing to really listen to my concerns over the phone and he even took the time to look up my VIN to provide me with some realistic pricing scenarios (parts, labor, etc.) in order to get my vehicle repaired. I was even more impressed by Greg and his team once I brought my vehicle to their shop. I don't usually give 5 stars, but these folks earned them. Communication, something that seems to be lacking in the automotive repair industry, was superb. I was kept informed at every step of the way and was treated like a valued customer. Look, things happen and not everything can go smoothly. Sometimes mistakes are made or new things are discovered that weren't part of the original findings. Such is life. All I ever ask is that I be kept in the loop. These folks get it. So my car took a little longer to fix than expected, not a big deal. Had they lied to me, failed to keep me posted on their findings, etc., etc., then this would be an entirely different review. But they DID keep me posted. They DID speak to me like a customer that they wanted to keep for the long haul... and as a result I will be a customer for a very long time. Other repair shops should take note and follow Motor Motion's lead. Treat customers with respect, communicate with them, and be honest when things don't go smoothly. My 350 z would not start sometimes. I took it to Motor Motion and had them to change the spark plugs(500 doll)because I thought that was the problem. Still didn't start sometimes. I then told Motor Motion about the problem. They charged me 150 dollars to diagnose, and 650 dollars to replace the BCU, a computer part that recognizes the key. The car still didn't start sometimes. I took the car back and forth multiple times because of the same starting problem. They said it might be the key or other electronic devices on my key ring could be interrupting the signal. I had a new key made and programmed by the dealer,(333 dollars)and put my car keys on a separate ring. Still didn't start. My son suggested taking it to Tracy Nissan. I did. Just from talking to me, they said it was the immobilizer(369dollars). They replaced it in an hour and a half and the car runs great! read more

Outstanding Service! I was extremely pleased with how my car and I were treated. The Motor Motion shop is Open and you and the Owner have a clear peak into the shop while the work is being done on your car. I personally saw the technician do a thorough inspection of my car. I felt completely safe leaving the shop knowing that I was "all serviced up". In addition, the owner and his son are knowledgeable and friendly. This is not a grumpy kind of shop. Not just expensive, fixed wrong part. Took my Tahoe in for air conditioner. They told me it wasn't compressor. $550 later, pulleys and belts. Got car back in same condition I dropped it off. Brought it back and now want $1200 for compressor. Needless to say, not going back. To make it worse, was then told there was a notification from Chevy that there was problems with compressors. I am a Costco member and while surfing the Costo website I saw a 15 percent discount off of approved Costco automotive companies. I was a bit skeptical about taking my car to a auto shop because I have always taken it to the dealership for service. Nevertheless, I am glad I took the chance. The price was excellent at least $200 less than what I would have paid . Rick was friendly, patient , professional and kind. They provide a 100k tune up on my 2012 Jetta VW. I thought all of the changing of the filters was included in the service but Rick explained the air filter to the engine was not. This information was left out in the initial quote which would have cost me $200 more in addition to the $468 that I was initially quoted. Not knowing that information was very upsetting considering my budget. I expressed my concerns to Rick and without any fuss he apologized for the confusion and subtracted the cost of labor for changing the air filter . I don't usually take time to write reviews but the entire experience was excellent! In the end I left with a smile, $10 gift card off my next service , candy and a welcome package with more candy and coupons . I would definitely use this family business again because they made me feel like a valued customer the minute I walked in the door. Rick thanks for your customer service skills and taking the time to explain my service. The other thing I liked was the pictures they send you via email to show you the existing parts in your car and the new part they needed to replace it with. The dealership does not do that at all. I am giving them 4 stars only because I had to get a ride back to Modesto from Patterson to pick up my car but they did give me a ride back home after dropping off my car. My wife took our Jaguar FX here for a simple oil change about 3 weeks ago. My wife waited 3 HOURS even when they said they would get on it right away ! They apparently had issues resetting the service engine light and actually ran the battery so low that when my wife got home the computer said "system shut down low battery." My wife called and they said they tried to reset the engine service light and left the key on. The car was running when my wife got in it or she would have know prior to leaving their shop. The check engine light came on and we heard a rubbing noise on the front left tire the next day so we scheduled it with a Sacramento Jag dealer to reset the light, check the noise and do warranty work. They said the rubbing was a pan below the engine was re-installed improperly and rubbing on the tire. They fixed it. In full transparency the shop credited the service but my wife insists on 1 star since all the issues and inconvenience for a simple oil change! read more

brought my car for brakes(front) due to grinding, it was obvious, over 500 dollars....okay ...I leave and I'm squeaky....I call about two weeks or so later and make an appointment to bring my car in, now they say it's my back brakes, ohhh , how convenient...never squeaked before,and wouldn't you know it...only 500 dollars to fix those too, and my e braje...lol huh, what? i dont even use it....interesting ....despite their own reports and photos showing my back brakes were fine just a couple weeks prior....interesting...make your own conclusion ....never will touch my car again, they offered discount services, lol it wasn't discounted, like I cant Google auto zone for parts costs, get transparent folks read more

This place is terrible expensive. Quoted prices right at what the Chevrolet dealership quoted. Why would I pay them the same repair price as the dealer? We left our vehicle over night there and when Greg called the next day he said the windows were all smashed out. I was speechless, then after he let me freak for a while he said he was "just kidding"!!! Who would think that's funny especially when you are expecting bad news anyway. BEWARE! Took my F350 in for glow plugs and a hard start. I knew the glow plugs needed replacing, but needed the hard start diagnosed. After 3 days they said the injectors needed replacing. Took it back the next week and they kept it 5 days and charged us over $6000, yes you read that right $6K. We paid it but the hard start was not fixed. No apologies that they said they could fix the problem in 3 days and kept it almost twice that and we still have the same problem. I don't know how these people stay in business. Regarding communication, we had to call numerous times just to get an update. So if you want to spend a fortune and leave ur car for extended periods of time and not get the problem fixed, take it to these guys. NEVER AGAIN! read more

I would never recommend this shop because their prices are ridiculous. I had my vehicle towed there for what was perceived as a starter issue. They charged me $85 to diagnose the problem and determined it was the battery. The $85 dollar diagnosis fee seemed totally appropriate but the price to replace the battery was $360! That is just insane. I replaced the battery for $140 at Les Schwab. I asked the guy at Motor Motion why they were $200 more and he said they had a 3 year warranty...really!! They found several other issues with my vehicle but there was no way I was going to let them service it with the price they wanted to simply replace a battery. Change your name to Motor SLOW Motion Automotive. I paid the ransom! Yes, after they held my car captive for 3 days, I had to pay the ransom to get it back. Let me explain. I called on a Thursday and made an appointment for the following Monday. I needed to have the oil changed and asked for an overall inspection for them to determine what else may be needed. Knowing that there wasn't going to be any "repairs" and just general service (191,000 miles on a well kept vehicle), I anticipated that the car would be ready on the same day, after all, I booked the appointment well in advance and dropped it off at 7:30 a.m. as they had requested. I called on day 1 at 2:00 p.m. to check on the status of my car, they hadn't gotten to it yet and said they would call me later with more info. At 4;00 p.m. I get a call and they had completed the oil change and the inspection and ran down their list of recommendations. I told them what i would like to have done (Serpentine belts changed, transmission fluid change, and coolant changed), they said they would need to keep the car over night to complete these services and would call at noon to give me a status. Of course, noon rolls around the next day and no call. I call at 2:00 p.m. only to be told they "might" have it done by the end of the day, but may need to keep it overnight once again. i ask "is this normal practice to keep a car three days for general service work?" they said no, that they are very backed up and could give me a loaner car if i needed one. I declined the loaner car. It's not "their" car i need, it's my car I need. 3 days is a ridiculous amount of time to keep a car for general service work. I get my car the next day and pay full price for their work (the ransom). I would have at least offered a discount if it were my business, but the best they could do is give me a Starbucks card for the long wait. Speaking of full price, their labor rate must be astronomical. They charged $24 labor for an oil change. Let's calculate that. Oil change takes 10 minutes, at $24 that's $144 an hour. I can get my oil changed at Jiffy Lube for just there labor rate. Lesson learned. I must also mention that last year I took my wife's car to them for breaks (first time to this business), and of course they had to keep it over night (dropped it off first thing in the morning). So, my fault for not figuring out their slow service policy the first time, but you can bet that there will not be a next time for them. I think they should change their name to Motor SLOW Motion Automotive! read more

This is the worst place you can take your car! A year ago I had made a list of things I wanted fixed. I wanted the sun roof fixed and a new radiator and a jammed tape that was stuck in my tape player. Instead they went around my list and said my licence plate light was out and a back light was out ( which was false). They put in a new smaller battery that didn't fit my Acura 2006 TL right. When I never had a battery issue to begin with. The lied and told me they had to jump start my car to get it in the shop when that was a lie because i watch Caleb pull my car in nus fine! !$1800.00 later and 7 days without a car! They call me to tell me its finished. So a month goes by and i get up early at 6 a.m. and my car was completely died! So i jump started it and was hoping it wouldn't do that again so it goes on like that for a month and i call motion motors to see whats up and why isn't my car working correctly! They tell me bring it down and they'd fix it.And the alternator and battery went out because they put the wrong one in so they fix the alternator and put another small battery in and 7 months after leaving motion motors my battery was smoking and the alternator went out again! So i took it to a shop in Manteca called Anthony's Auto Repair and i had to pay out if my pocket to get it fixed and it finally got done right by Anthony! I'm just so upset that motion motors never fixed nothing right but my sunroof! And i also got my radiator fix that i had to pay for at Anthony's. I feel motion motors owes my big time for all the money and time and in convince i went through!! They also owe me money for the radio they never fixed that i ALSO had to pay out of pocket at another shop. I went into motion motors crying! And they laughed at me! Today I went in for an oil change, my first time choosing Motor Motion, mind you, and I've found that rare balance of informative and friendly. From the moment I got there Greg and Caleb were welcoming, and genuinely interested in me as a person, not a pocketbook. (They even gave me a welcome bag with truffles in it!) Long story short, they were awesome and I got my car back 10 times cleaner than it was when I showed up this morning! From now on I'll be using Motor Motion for all of my mechanical needs. I hv been a cust. of only 2 auto shops since I moved to Modesto in 1992. And my husband and I know little about these electronics cars so we depended on these auto shops. We realized the first one was ripping us off so we went to the second one and this time we paid more attention. Sure enough, it happened with them too. We were desperate because we can't afford a new car ( we hv 2, one for work), we are seniors I am a homemaker. So my husband heard of Yelp from our son and that's where we discovered Motion Motors, WOW!! What a difference....customer service-GREAT! But best of all I took the car there to fix the problem those other two couldn't fix and it came out purring like a new car ( I hv a 1996 Dodge). Never had a problem in that area of the car again. It's a old car so later I had another problem took it to M.M. again and it was fixed, never had to be back since. Sort of miss them, they're good people and as far as I'm concern, HONEST! read more

i called and spoke to caleb and he said that it was going to be a while for my oil change but i could drop the car off. i did that and told him that my car over heats sometimes and i wanted it fixed. he said it would be $129.73 for the diagnosis. then called me around 4:30 and said if i left my car overnight, they would have time to fix it in the morning. so, i left my car overnight. 12:30 in the afternoon the next day i went in to check on my car since nobody had called about it. the owner, greg was there and said they could not find anything wrong with my car but they were still gonna charge me $129.73 diagnosis fee. i asked what is the diagnosis and he said that they couldn't find a problem but if it overheats again i can bring my car back without paying the fee next time. i argued that he didn't diagnose my car. he agreed that he would not charge me the fee (after embaressing me in front of other customers) but that i could never bring my car to him again. like he was doing me a favor! i have never been treated with such disrespect from a mechanic shop. ever!!! i wouldn't take my car there if he paid me to. read more
