My 2004 R1150R lost the rear brakes and the ABS function was not working on the front brakes. After calling around several independent repair shops in Brooklyn who did not work on BMW's I was directed to Tom. Because he has limited space in his shop he could not take my bike in right away but he invited me over to take a look at the bike to see if he could diagnose the issue. His take was that he would have to invest about 3 hours to dismantle the bike, so I brought it in about a week later. There is more to Tom, who has many 5 star ratings on here being praised as an expert mechanic and a stand up guy who really cares about your bike running well and safely. He is honest and is always looking to do the right thing. You can tell right away that he isn't trying to sell you extra parts or work that you don't need like many mechanics do. He treats the environment with respect, always using biodegradable materials when possible. What he does not treat with respect is every idiot who walks in to his shop looking to trick their bike out so they can terrorize the public with wheelies and burnouts and other unsafe conduct. He also will not show love to people who are looking to find the cheapest illegal way to keep their ratty bikes running, or those who want to hide their license plate under their fender type of mentality. When you come to Tom, you better come correct and you and your bike will leave his shop improved and smiling. I've learned so much about motorcycles from Tom in fact I'm surprised he doesn't charge me a teaching fee. Speaking of charging, if any one thinks that Tom charges too much, well you don't understand how labor compensation works. He works hard all day, getting each nut and bolt torqued just right preemptively solving future problems you will have on your bike while at the same time running a business single handedly answering phones, paying the rent, paying taxes, dealing with neighbors etc. He deserves to not be scraping the bottom just to have dinner tonight. His hourly rate for labor (I think its $95?) is not only well deserved, but I'm sure he needs it, and don't ever forget - you get what you pay for - and with Tom you get nothing but the best. The first time I went to Motorcycle Works Ltd, I came in with my SV 650 with an electrical problem. He fixed the problem in record time, and when he took it for a test ride he adjusted the play of the clutch lever. When I got on my bike next, I could not believe how much better the clutch felt and performed! It felt like a whole new riding experience because of the 10 seconds it took him to make an instinctual adjustment, not to mention the fact that that adjustment surely prolonged my clutch life. I'm writing about my experience, this is my first review I write for someone because usually I trust people and never I like to put someone in a bad way but I have to change my mind regarding this Guy Tom. I went there for inspection, and then back to try to fix my BMW R1150R because didn't ride very clear, in beginning he said okay I will fix it and when I asked how much it will cost? He told me around 700$, after 10 days he called me and said, Hi the bike is ready come to pick up tomorrow with 1178$ cash. I was mad,he didn't call me to say nothing regarding changing the price, I couldn't believe was almost double. Anyway, I paid and I left, the bike rides worse than before I called back he never answered me, I left the first message he never called me back, i went there in person on Monday at 11:00am nothing didn't open the door, I called back I left another voicemail and then I said thank u for calling me back I'll think so I will write a nice review about you. then he tried to call me but I was busy he left a voicemail and said, come here and we'll talk face to face rude as usual. Tom is an incredible mechanic. He squared me away in an emergency (broken brake level) and without any prompting did some other minor tune ups--my bike has never sounded so happy. He is a consummate professional, so respect his knowledge and time. He doesn't mess around and doesn't have time for people who do; thank goodness someone is treating entitled brat customers the way they deserve. Tom can be a gigantic pain in the butt. But (no pun) he is also the most knowledgeable BMW mechanic I have ever come across, very proud of his skill and unstinting in delivering it to your bike. He is meticulous in documenting his work, will happily show you exactly what he did and why he did it and ultimately drop his veil of curmudgeonly conduct once he thinks that you respect the bike as much as he does. Very knowledgeable and trustworthy mechanic.

I brought in a 2002 r1150gs that I had recently purchased that has seen some hard times. Tom was great in explaining everything that needed to be done and what could wait. He was through and took time to show me everything on the bike. He didn't even mind that I knew next to nothing about motorcycles in general. He fixed it up in a couple of days and now it runs better then ever. He even called me back and he told me I had accidentally payed $20 more then what we agreed on I drove back and he gave me the money back and asked how the bike was running. All in all it was a great experience and I will definitely be going back. 10/10 read more

Just stopped in for an inspection, which I know a lot of mechanics see as a waste of time, and even though it was close to closing time he took his time with me and was very helpful, pointing out some things I didn't notice. Tom took me right away for the inspection I called about. When I got off my bike, I noticed my chain guard had lost a bolt and gotten bent. Tom asked if I wanted to fix it or if I wanted him to. He removed the guard and smoothly bent the sheet metal back, good as new. Super quick, considerate, easy to talk to, great attitude. Bill for repair: a measly $15. Just got my bike out of storage this weekend and was all happy and excited to find a bike repair to give it a little tune up... and just like in many other reviews (that I'm reading only now and should have read before calling) that guy Tom was very rude on the phone... because I didn't understand something he was explaining to me, he started yelling at me: 'what, no comprende?!?!'... which I found insulting, not only to me personally but also to all non-native English speaking New Yorkers... yucky! read more

The owner "Tom" is the rudest person I've ever dealt with. You would think he'd be a little nicer since his business is struggling, but he's a scam artist. He takes his time to get to you and once he does is completely rude and over charges for everything. He fails bikes for inspection for no reason so he can say "hey, I actually sell that part here and can fix it." His work looks shotty won't pass bikes w/ any type of altercations to them. Complete scam, I would highly encourage any real motorcyclist to look else where, literally anywhere else would be better. read more

I had a starter bike inspected here a few weeks ago, which went fine. But I found Tom to be unpleasant to deal with. He noticed a couple of things that I aughta take care of on my bike. While I found his tips helpful, when I declined his invitation to schedule a follow-up appointment on the spot, Tom gave me some attitude. Tom is the best old school Teutonic master mechanic in NYC. He has been wrenching my German bikes for as long as I can remember. Tom is an expert mechanic who can tune my 25-year-old bike so that it runs like it did the day I bought it brand new. I've had my machines worked on by the best and Tom is right at the top. I have full confidence and trust in Tom and the work that he performs. Is he cheap? No. You get what you pay for. Tom's a professional and has little patience for bullshit. I've been at the shop either dropping off or picking up bikes and seen whiny millennials ride in train wrecks that they expect him to pass inspection and then run off and right bitchy reviews because Tom wouldn't overlook a safety issue. Trust me, if you want solid reliable professional work done to your motorcycle, Tom is the man. And if you pay attention to what he says you'll most likely learn something about your bike and how to properly maintain it. read more

what an unpleasant person this guy was to me this morning ... went there to do an inspection on my scooter and he start with his lessons about mine is not a motorcycle...i said i get tour point but it is register as a motorcycle in this state and you should be obliged to do the inspection... he reply that waisting his time ... shame on him.. read more

Brought my bike here for inspection. There was another customer ahead of me who was also getting an inspection done and Tom was very thorough knowledgeable and helpful with him. When it was my turn he said my bike wasn't gonna pass before even looking at the bike wtf. He made all these assumptions like if my brake like was integrated, which it wasn't instead of actually checking. My plate wasn't in factory location which he also ragged on me about it asking if I was trying to hide it from the cops or something. Mind you its further under the tail than stock but still 12-48in from the ground which is legal. There were other issues with the bike why he justifiably failed it which I completely understand. However, his attitude towards me and my bike was unprofessional. Saying it failed before looking at it was one and this guy literally kept asking me if I was a gangster or a thug, if I did burnouts and wheelies (which I don't know how to do by the way). I'm not sure if it was because of my bike was custom, my skin color or both but I didn't appreciate the way I was spoken to. I guess if you have a stock bike and different skin you might have a better experience. Only gave two stars because of his good interaction with previous customer but would've been zero if I didn't see that. Also didn't charge me for inspection but I would've rather paid for it than be insulted. read more
