First time here! Brought my 9 year old. We stuck with a California roll for him. I got a Las Vegas roll. They were so kind. The woman who is an owner was so kind she actually came over and gave a demo to my son on how to use chopsticks and special green chopstick holder.

Mot'to is a consistent causual restaurant whithin the mall. Its the closest to legoland without breaking the bank. We have came here several times. I have always love a place that has kid's menu. The only thing was their Chicken was not that good in the kids menu.v si we have opt to order from the regular menu instead. I had their poke, rolls, ramen, yakisoba, and udon. All was good! We only ate here twice and the other times was to take it to go and enjoy at the legoland hotel courtyard. Casual style seating, order at the register, and then take a seat to wait for n number or name to be called. I. Highly recommend ordering online. They are always busy. Always!. Its probably the good prices. I. Hope they stay that way. The people we have interacted were so kind. Great place to satisfy hungry with reasonable priced food.

Had our lunch 30 mins after opening so there's no line. Combo Bento (Chicken Teriyaki with Cali Roll ) - comes with rice, salad and miso soup also. I wish the chicken was cooked with more teriyaki sauce on it. There's available sauces at the counter but it's different if you had the sauce added while cooking/grilling. Chicken and Cali Roll - 3/5 Cucumber Salad - fresh veggies, well seasoned and dressing was balanced. 5/5 Combo Bento (Steak with Cali Roll) - I wish the steak is more tender. Lacks seasoning. 3/5 Asian Coleslaw - fresh ingredients and tasty dressing. 5/5 Spot to get lunch while shopping. I'll comeback for their salads and great customer service!

We just love our lunches at Motto! We've been coming here for years and just love the Easy Bentos. They are so friendly here and everything comes out fresh, hot, and importantly correct. The restaurant is light, bright, and very clean. Pro tip is you can sub an extra side salad in lieu of the miso soup.

Fast casual Japanese food located at the Carlsbad outlets. Plenty of seating and large menu of rolls and bento combos. This place reminds me of the Sansai franchise near home. I definitely would recommend the bento combos and Yakisoba. I wouldn't really recommend the rolls as the fish cuts were so thin.

Great place to stop while shopping at the outlet mall in Carlsbad. I had the udon soup which had a fabulous flavor to the broth with tempura on the side for a reasonable price. My friend had 3 and rolls of her choice. They were filled with plenty of fish, not just rice like some locations. Easy to order and pick up food. Dining inside or out.

I went here for the first time today. I was shopping at the Carlsbad Outlet Mall and stopped here for lunch because it smelled good. It was busy but the service was fast so I didn't have to wait too long to place my order. I ordered the Steak & Chicken Breast Combo with Cucumber Salad and Miso Soup and a Sapporo. I was provided a number to listen for to pick up my food when it was ready. The Cucumber Salad and Soup tasted great. The steak was good but the chicken was dry. They give a good portion and aren't expensive.

The ambiance is cute and the seating is well spaced out. Ordering is painless and the food came out quick. Not to mention for fast casual dining I would say the quality was great. I enjoyed a poke bowl while my wife and daughter enjoyed the crunch tempura roll and a california roll. 100% would came back though when stopping in Carlsbad to or from San Diego.

Solid Japanese cuisine for reasonable prices in a relatively spacious interior with relatively quick service (you pick up orders). Recommended!

For $25 you get a starter (think edamame, marinated cucumbers, dumplings, etc.), a choice of Chicken, Pork or Beef, and a soft drink. It also includes all the dipping sauces, broth, rice and vegetables. Everyone loved that you could customize it to their own liking and it was just a fun experience cooking together with everyone. Definitely will come back and it was an awesome value at only $25 a person.

I want to start by saying that I very much enjoyed eating at Tabu Shabu. It's very fair to state…read morethat my three star experience is mostly my own doing more so than the restaurant itself. Our server was fantastic, the setup clean, and the menu was fairly easy to navigate. Where it fell apart for me all came after that. This is not my style of cooking. So many places I've been to, where you cook your own food on a grill or hot plate at your table, you're mainly dealing with thin cuts of meat, salt and pepper, and possibly a dipping sauce. This makes the cooking simple, a quick sear, a light crust on the beef or pork, and the finished product is basic and delicious. Shabu, though ... it's boiled meat. That's not to say that Tabu Shabu isn't good, but unless you're really adept at making soups, it's easy to be completely out of your element. And I can safely say I was a bit over my head at this restaurant. You start with your broth, where I am ashamed to admit that instead of opting for the Tonkostu with its deep and rich fatty flavor, I chose the basic umami of the White Miso. Because of that, I spent most of my meal mistakenly chasing flavors I would normally find in a Ramen Shop. They give you a plate of chopped herbs to add and some basic instructions ... I like garlic, so I added the whole thing, radish sound alright, so add in the whole ball, what was the last thing I put in? They give you a few squeeze bottles of oils with paper labels ... this one makes it more sour, this one makes it more spicy, this one has sesame, and I'm too timid to add enough of any to truly add to the flavor of the broth, so it just keeps that basic umami flavor without being as salty as it should be. Then you have a plate of vegetables to steep in your creation. Cabbage, broccoli, spinach, bok choy, tofu ... all of it serves as a way of soaking up that broth you've made. Other options, like the carrots, mushrooms, and squash, become sweet and tender after taking their turns in the pot. And they're nice as they offer a different flavor other than that umami. And then there's the meat. A wide variety of options ranging from salmon, to chicken, to pork, all the way down to multiple versions of beef. But, all of the meats we ordered seem to differ only in texture after spending some time in that broth. Some fell apart on the tongue, some still had a nice chew, but all shared that umami from the pot, with an aftertaste of beefy flavor before swallowing. After a few initial pieces, I found myself thankful for the dipping sauces to distract me from how boring I had made my broth to be. You also get a choice of rice, which I don't think you really need. You get a choice of noodles, which they give you a good amount where it doesn't fill you up with carbs. And anything left over is readily bagged up to eat at home after the flavors mix together and mature. In the end, it's a very filling and fairly healthy meal. I think it's difficult to not compare this to eating a bowl of Pho or Ramen. All the ingredients are there, just instead of eating it with a spoon, you pull out the individual bits with some chop sticks and pretend you're not eating boiled beef and spinach. If I were a better cook, or had another ten visits worth of practice, Tabu Shabu could easily be 4-5 stars. As it is, though, I think I would rather just go to GONZO and get another chef's creation to be sure of the flavors I want. Regardless, I want to come back here and try again one day. The variety of options and the wait staff alone are enough for me to learn more and expand my Shabu options, as well as recommend this place to others.

Parking is usually pretty easy, and while the restaurant is small, there is both indoor and outdoor seating. One of the best deals is their happy hour Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. I especially love their cocktails, and they're even better at happy hour prices. My go to order is the katsu chicken curry ramen. It's so good! I'm also a big fan of the poke bowl and their specialty sushi rolls. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and I've consistently had great experiences here. Good food, good drinks, and great service. I'll definitely be back again and again.

But I had also just had ramen a week ago so tried to change it up further by getting the chicken curry ramen. Wanted sushi. Ended up getting something that tasted more like Indian food. Maybe if that's what I was in the mood for I would have enjoyed it. Although I think if I'm craving curry I will just order curry, and not curry-style ramen. I will say that the chicken karaage here is way better than the one at Underbelly. It was softer and juicier. The ramen I ate the other night was Underbelly and the chicken was so dry and tasteless. I don't even know why people hype that place up so much; it's pretty overrated.
