I created this account just so I could review this place because it was genuinely SO good! Me and my parents visited on our day off work and were very excited to try some of their dishes. We got the Phad Thai, chow mein, and curry as our main dishes. When we received our meals, we were impressed by the presentation of each one! And of course it all tasted delicious. My dad can especially attest to this since he ate a portion of mine and my mom's dishes haha. Our server Gigi was also super nice and made the experience more pleasant. I love Thai food and was excited to try a new place. We sat outside on the little patio since it was a nice day out. My friend and I both ordered fried rice but I chose the island fried rice with chicken while he chose the spicy fried rice with beef. The service was decent and the food was really good. My friend's food did come out with the wrong protein, however we didn't mention it because they were happy to eat the chicken instead of beef. The portions were generous and I had plenty leftover. My husband and I were recently in the Oceanside area and were craving for authentic Thai food. With a quick Yelp search, we found this restaurant. The location worked well since it was walkable from the pier. Once we were in the area, parking was a bit tricky but we were able to find a spot on a close by street. There was no wait time and we were seated promptly on the outdoor patio deck. For appetizers - we got the Tom thai veggie soup and for entree we got the veggie drunken noodles and spicy basil fried rice. The soup is served in a big bowl - adequate for 2-3 people to share. The soup itself was delicious and packed with vegetables. The flavor was unique! The thai basil fried rice came out relatively quickly. The portion size was moderate. It was authentic and tasted really good. Fortunately, the spice level was perfect for our taste buds. It was also packed with a lot of vegetables. The drunken noodles were saucy and the flat noodles were cooked to perfection. All in all, we loved this restaurant and would highly recommend if you are in the area! read more

as an oceanside local, i always pass by this place and decided to go here for dinner w some friends after a yoga class. we were sat outside, and even though it was a cool evening, they had warmers/heat lamps and a tent-like structure that provided good protection. service was kind and friendly. i ordered the eggplant with tofu and it was delicious! my friends got the pad thai and the pad see ew, and they both enjoyed it. this place always struck me as a convenient restaurant in oceanside that has thai/asian food. overall, average food, nice service, decent price. read more

We visited Rim Talay, and had a delicious meal. The service is good. We sat outside because it was a beautiful evening. There is noise from the traffic, but it can't be helped. I had the sea bass. I hoped it would be more like the whole grilled salted fish sold on the Thai roadside, but it was a grilled fillet. Good nonetheless. It f they had that whole salted fish- it would dynamite! Tonight was our first visit to Rim Talay since we read on social media that this restaurant had new owners, and we were surprised by how few diners there were on a Saturday night. The outside patio had one table of two diners and inside there was a two-top and a four-top. Also, the new owners have reduced the staff and that is reflected in a longer wait time for our main dishes, and the lack of refills for our Iced Tea. As a retired Chef I know that as a new owner the very worst changes to make are the flavor, portion size, and the ingredients of a dish as I experienced with my Sweet and Sour Pork. My pork was not sweet or sour as it was with the previous owners, and it had cucumbers, that are not flavorful when cooked and were not served in this dish by the previous owners. For this review to be totally honest, my wife's Chicken Fried Rice was very good and was very similar to the same dish she has enjoyed in past visits to Rim Talay. Hopefully, the new owners will survive as they continue their journey in the brutal restaurant industry, and make the best decisions to keep Rim Talay a great restaurant destination. read more

Stopped in for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Garlic and Black Pepper Stir Fry with chicken. It leaned a bit heavy on the pepper, but overall still very tasty. The side salad was light, fresh, and enjoyable. The restaurant has a small patio area with a nice view of the main strip in downtown O'side, which made for a good atmosphere to relax and people-watch. Service was good overall--friendly and attentive without being overbearing. All in all, a solid 4-star experience. We will definitely be back on future visits to try more dishes. read more

I love coming here as they have a really good chicken pad Thai. The serving is usually large and it comes with a side salad and an eggroll. The service is also good despite their posted notices that it might be slow due to understaffing. It's also in a great spot while you're cruising downtown to stop in for a bite to eat. It's not a big place so it feels very intimate yet casual. They have tables outside on the shaded patio and a handful of tables inside by the kitchen. This place is a spot I've walked by many times and decided to go on a date nice and it was a nice little comfortable spot to go. Server was s really nice and they checked up on us frequent enough and were great about refilling water. The food was absolutely delicious and I hadn't had duck in a long time so I went with the ginger duck stir fry, duck was delicious and the ginger sauce was spectacular. I also had the chicken skewers which were good and the peanut sauce was good too. Tea was very pleasant and overall a genuinely plain good place to visit if your trying to enjoy a different cuisine, I will be looking into reviewing this place again and giving a follow up review. Came here recently for a quick bite before catching a live band play in the neighborhood. I had previously eaten a late brunch so I just got the wontons as the appetizer and the wonton cup of soup for my dinner. I chuckled at myself for having a wonton themed night! The service and food were excellent and I even made sure to let one of the owners know that as we were leaving. I do agree with some of the other reviews on the portions. As our other entree was Thai fried rice. We do tend to get more at other locations. Usually enough to bring home if everyone isn't sharing. If we were hungrier then we might've felt that difference a bit more. Leftovers would've been nice because the quality was there. The food was at perfect & steamy temperatures -- straight out of the kitchen. They have a semi-enclosed patio w/heat lamps, cozy & intimate hole in the wall vibe inside. Lots of pick up orders too! We had the Pad Thai (delicious, ask for a lime wedge if it's too sweet) and the Island Curry (heat level 1 was just right for us). This is a red curry with coconut milk and lots of veggies and pineapple chunks which added a bit of sweetness. Service was fast and efficient. Highly recommended. read more

We were given a gift card purchased 2/20/26. Had not used because it was $125 and did not want to deal with a balance on it. Went with friends. The bill came so I gave to the waitress. She informed me the ownership changed and new owner will not take the gift card even though they kept the name and menu. Past reviews that are over a few months do not reflect the new ownership given the date the card was purchased and denying using because new owners are not accepting past owners cards that they issued. FYI, the portions have changed too. Seemed much smaller and we commented prior to finding out they would not take the gift card. Our last time plus we will make sure we tell everyone about this. FYI, Chin's for Chinese is excellent in Carlsbad and Encinitas. Not sure of the other locations. read more

We went here for Saturday dinner and the place had a good crowd. We were seated immediately and the menu is pretty simple and pretty much has the same menu like every Thai place. We went with Chicken wonton soup, drunken noodles and house fried rice. Everything was pretty good, the flavors, spice level, the kids absolutely enjoyed the food. The service was rather slow but we were in no hurry. The pricing is on the higher side for a Thai place. We felt we could get the same food for a lower cost. My wife and I frequent here often, almost weekly. Today being Memorial Day and a major Holiday we called ahead to confirm the restaurant hours and closing time. We also know that the restaurant stops seating customers 30 minutes before closing time. My wife called today 26MAY25 at 7:12pm, and we're told today they close at 9:30pm. We arrived at 8:37pm and I went to our usual table outside. The waitress came over and told us they're closing and not taking anymore customers. My wife and I explained to her the conversation we had with a lady that answered the phone regarding closing at 9:30pm. What was most frustrating is we drive almost an hour from Orange County because we enjoy the food so much, and would never risk traveling that distance if the restaurant was close to closing. Additionally, the waitress became argumentative and lied stating no one would have told us 9:30pm, she then began questioning the other waitress in another language. We love the food, the ambiance, and the usual 2 waitresses, who today weren't there, nor was there a manager. Sadly, we will no longer be making that drive, or bringing our business, due to the poor advice from one of your waitresses, the lack of accountability, and the unprofessional confrontation from another. read more

Rim Talay is conveniently located in Downtown Oceanside by the beach and hotels. I walked over from my hotel to have dinner here. I ordered the Pad Thai and Thai fried rice. I requested no spice as I needed something kid friendly. Thai food can get spicy and they obliged with my request of omitting the spice perfectly. The Pad Thai had so much color and flavor. The place where the restaurant really let down was on the food. They said that on a scale of 1-10, the medium hot food was 3. So we ordered at 8 hotness. The food was not spicy at all - not acceptable. The other thing was that both of our dishes were sweet. Overall - we felt that the food was a complete letdown. My third time experience here was horrible. The first 2 times were dining in. My husband and I thought the food was mediocre due to the lack of fresh herbs and too much grease. Their menu didn't have great variety of authentic Thai dishes. We eat a lot of Thai food and have been to Thailand 11 times. Due to the close proximity of our condo we just moved into, we gave it another try on 1/1. This time we called for a pick up order. The lady that took my order was very unfriendly. When I picked up my order, it was 15 min late. I asked her for 2 fish sauces and she looked at me in the eyes and said, "See- they are in there!", pointing to the tightly tied up plastic bag. I couldn't see through, but trusted her words and got into our car. Our 5 min ride home was a disaster as the fish sauce smell was permeating in our car. When we got home, we only found 1 fish sauce, it spilled all over our 3 dishes we ordered. Sauce was spilling out of one of our dishes. My husband was so upset, he called them right away to inform them what had happened. Instead of apologizing, she denied lying to me and being rude about it. We tried. But 3 strikes, and you are OUT! We will never go back to this restaurant. Food is not fresh & authentic. Service is shockingly poor- they don't know customer service basics. Menu lacks variety. They do NOT know how to package food to go - so beware! They clearly don't care about what their customers think! read more

They are short staffed so patience is a must either way our waitress was very nice and attentive. The food came out rather quickly and was a good temp. Also had the fried rice and that was prolly the best fried rice I've had. They have lunch special which are convenient and well proportioned (see pic) they do offer Thai beer, Thai tea and soft drinks. For some reason, I remember this restaurant tasting a little differently. I haven't been in a while due to COVID. I love that they have a reasonably priced lunch menu that includes a side salad and spring roll. I like that you can easily customize a meal to be vegan friendly. The service is fine, wouldn't say exceptional but it was descent. My green curry on my most recent order was really salty.
