I was impressed by the "homemade" feel of the food. The restaurant looks pretty humble, and honestly we were the only family dining-in on a Sunday night. The food though, was great. The momos were very flavorful. Although the ground chicken wasn't that "fine grounded" since you can taste the meat bits and onion pieces, but I don't mind it and think it as a signal of "homemade" as opposed to some store bought ones. Similar feelings for the main dishes as well as the daal. ---simple but homey. The service was okay. Don't have much to comment. i went here with some friends when our initial dinner plans fell through. when you are seated, you will see that they fold the napkins all cute and table setup is nice. the service was very good, my water glass was never empty. i ordered the chicken momos. the sauce was very good (as expected for momos) and the momos were full of meat and flavor. additionally, the portion size was quite large and i was able to take some home for my next meal. i would certainly return to mt everest in the future. read more

We had a really great first meal at Mount Everest. Decided to check it out for a change of pace. It's a relatively unassuming place right on the Avenue in Hampden but the food is really great. We had the samosa appetizer and then the chicken chow chow noodles (fabulous), chicken tikka masala (absolutely delicious), chicken jurelly (very good), vegetarian jalfrezi (very good) and garlic Naan (delicious). The only miss was the momo which are dumplings but the chicken mix inside was dry and not very flavorful. Other than that we had a great meal and it was not too expensive. Entrees were around $15. Excellent flavorful food! The owner is very friendly and accommodating and proud of his recipes. My dish of chickpeas, cauliflower and peas had 16 perfectly balanced spices. As I was enjoying the meal and realized was feeling full, I had to finish it because it was so good! Garlic flat bread was also awesome. I had never visited this gem, and now I wish I had done so sooner. Occasionally, I had noticed the sign when heading to other restaurants in Hamden. I joined a group to dine here recently on a Friday night. The food, including the samosas was FRESHLY prepared. The chicken tikka masala sauce is exceptionally flavorful as is the saag paneer. The non-bread is hot and FRESH. The service is attentive. The servers were even smiling throughout the night. They looked happy! The environment was peaceful, and though the restaurant was busy as it was Friday evening, it was easy to converse as the acoustics in the room are accommodating. I've been to Mount Everest twice now - once to eat in and once to pick up takeout. I love it. The food is delicious; the menu has a little bit of everything; the restaurant is casual and traditional and charming; and the service is great. The menu has a lot to offer, from some traditional Indian dishes (samosas, pakoras, saag, Tikka Masala, biryani, chana masala) to Nepali specialties (momo - dumplings, chow chow - noodles, and more). If you love Indian food, you'll like Mount Everest. If you love Nepali food, you'll like Mount Everest. If you've never tried either, give it a shot. So far I've tried: Himalay Junelly (GREAT; we've eaten it twice), Chicken Chow Chow (delicious!), Bone-in goat curry (yum), Mt. Everest Momo (great), garlic naan (also great), and Kashmiri naan (amazing). I love that we live walking distance to this great Nepali restaurant right on the Avenue in Hampden. I ordered take-out for dinner last night and had an overall satisfactory meal. My boyfriend and I opted for the Naan special, which comes with two entrees (chicken and/or vegetarian), two servings of rice, and naan for around $25 total. I opted for the Chicken Vindaloo (extra spicy), and he opted for the Chicken Junelly (medium). I enjoyed my food (although nothing to write home about) - the flavors were strong, they were generous with the chicken, and very generous with the rice. In addition, I appreciated how quickly the food was prepared. We ordered at around 8:30pm and the food was ready in about 25 minutes. The one thing I didn't enjoy too much was the naan. It was bland and dry. I think good naan is enjoyable to eat alone, satisfactory naan is at least good enough to eat with the curry, but I actually opted to avoid the naan altogether this time and just stick with my rice. Overall I would order from here again if I was craving Indian. My usual meal portions aren't too big so this probably isn't applicable to the general population, but I was able to make a dinner and a lunch from my order, which essentially meant I paid $13 for two meals! I wouldn't say that the food was particularly outstanding, but the location, portions/pricing, and at least above average flavors means this place is a solid 4 stars. read more

This is my go to place since I live in Hampden. Their jalfrezi is one of the best I've ever had. Plenty of spices and crispy veggies. When I ask for it hot, they oblige. My boyfriend loves it too and always gets the chicken Marsala, which I call ball o chicken. So happy this place is close because we go every couple weeks. read more

Great dining experience! We had dinner last evening at Mount Everest. I will definitely go back. Had difficulty deciding where to do dinner in Hampden - my first time getting dinner there. We saw a couple of friends leaving Mount Everest and they are regulars. They highly recommended it so we gave it a try. I had Samosas, Naan, and Mulligatawny Soup. Everything was delicious! The other half ordered Himalay Chana Paneer. Also delicious. Generous serving sizes. The staff were all super nice. They offered to refill water and they even offered to bring us extra rice without us even asking - where else does that ever happen? Excellent service. The restaurant was clean with a nice atmosphere. Not super fancy or fussy. Bathrooms were also very clean. Lots of parking available on the streets surrounding the area. I highly recommend. Mild flavors and spotty service, but an inviting menu. 3.5, rounded up. Located just across the street from the Cafe Hon, this was a great compromise between tastes. I was meeting new friends, including a child who had requested the Hon, and who was the only one of us who lived in the area. His aunt and I had hoped for different flavors, and my boy only cared that there might be tea. I can't tell you how happy I was when we parked the car in front of a brand new Nepalese restaurant that had an alternate menu. I was lucky when my boy was young. He never demanded food from a dumbed down kids menu, preferring a perfect bowl of rice over most foods. I understand kids (and adults, honestly) who want to eat what is safe, and I really understand parents who'd rather not spend money on an expensive experimental meal. So it was with this attitude that we entered the restaurant. Auntie and I ordered samosas, chaat, and soup. My boy ordered masala chai, chicken curry and momos. The younger child ordered a Caesar salad and a bowl of corn chowder, and we all shared a basket of tasty naan. Nepalese food has a much milder spice profile than most Indian foods. The dishes will all be familiar to anyone who enjoys a good curry, but the flavors are simply not as sharp. In the case of this restaurant, everything was also just a bit sweeter than I'd like, but it was all tasty enough. The space is small, and we were only one of three tables seated that afternoon, but our waiter disappeared for large chunks of time. We also, oddly, received our naan late in our meal. I realize that we'd ordered things from every section of the menu, but it would have been nicer to have the naan at the beginning than at the end. Still, if you are visiting this trendy neighborhood with a mixed group that is torn between the touristy Cafe Hon and anything else, I'd suggest that you mention this spot. 4 of us decided to try this restaurant on a Saturday night. We were warmly welcomed and promptly seated. We ordered 2 drinks- a stout beer and a alcoholic lemonade. The beer was good, but the house lemonade was too strong for my taste. Some would appreciate the generous use of quality alcohol. So I can't fault them for not serving a watered down version. The food was EXCELLENT! We ordered one goat Briyani, one shrimp Briyani, one veggie curry, one jafrezii, and an order of Naan bread. The shrimp Briyani may have been the best I've ever had. The heat level was perfect, and the dish contained 6 good sized shrimp. Everyone was thrilled with the food, service, and welcome attitude of the staff. Solid 5 star restaurant! read more

My boyfriend and I have had the chicken tikka masala, naan, and samosas at Mount Everest, Tambers, and Namaste and in our opinion, Mount Everest is by far the best at making this meal in the area. The curry is creamy with several tender chunks of chicken. It is not overwhelmed by tomato-flavor and it is not thin like soup (problems we have encountered at other places). You recieve 2 substantial pieces of naan per order that are warm and soft - easy to pull apart and use to eat up extra curry. You receive 2 samosas per order as well. They are large and full of flavor. I have had carry out and have dined in at Mount Everest and no matter which way you choose, the food is always going to be hot and delicious! Also, while this is not a cheap dinner, the portion sizes always leave enough for a 2nd meal the next day. Happy Eating! read more

One of the 3 Indian spots I love in Baltimore. I usually get the same 2 things... lamb saag and chicken tikka masala. I ask for it more towards hot spicy (rather than mild or medium which I find a bit sweet). Love their samosa chaat appetizer. Food is always warm and generous portions. They also offer a discount for ordering through their website and used to offer a cash discount (you have to ask though). I never actually been to the restaurant, but I always order from them using GrubHub! The food is always hot when I get it and they always come on time when they deliver! I usually get their chicken korma which is mildly spiced chicken pieces flavored with a nice cream sauce. It comes with basmati rice too. It's very good! I eat it with one of their excellent vegetable samosas and salad and you have a real winner for a lunch or dinner! I also tried their Lamb Saag too which is good too. The lamb pieces were very tender, and the spinach cream sauce was tasty too. If I had to choose one too eat all the time, I would definitely go with the chicken korma! read more

One of the things I really enjoy about the Charm City is the ability enjoy Nepalese food. I never really knew that I was so into Nepalese food until trying one spot in Charles Village and then another. There are plenty of places to chose from. Mount Everest in Hampden and there's a lot of competition as far as restaurants. After having something sweet, something savory works perfect and with the Greek spot closing at 9 and Mount Everest being stamped by the Baltimore Sun, Mount Everest it was. I have been trying to diversify when it comes to East Asian fare and a Nepalese restaurant makes that even easier. I said no to the Chicken Tikka ran with the Mattar Paneer. I've had plenty of Saag and Palak Paneer and have even partaken in Paneer Tikka Masala. Mattar was a dish I was unfamiliar with so I was excited to try it. For my naan I chose the Onion Kulcha to keep on the path of new things. I like a situation like this, sizeable portions and a full menu in case you want to share dishes in case something new doesn't mean something good but I thoroughly enjoyed everything I ordered. Great flavors, everything was served at the right temperature and the portions were enough to have something to enjoy the next day. This place is almost always empty, but the food is really good. I went with a friend and we were the only dinner customers there. When they opened they had white table clothes and a lunch buffet. I think they have since scrapped both of those. The white tables clothes were too much for Hampden and I don't think there are enough customers justify a buffet. The restaurant doesn't quite fit the Hampden bar/restaurant vibe well, but is still worth a visit or at least some delivery orders. I think if they had a long visible bar on the first floor. Some small plates/Indian bar food and a good and well promoted happy hour they could get a lot more customer traffic. I've ordered delivery from them a few times, too. I hope they have a good takeout/delivery business to make up for the lack of dine in customers. I really liked both the chicken tikka masala and the lamb korma. Definitely give them a try. read more
