I stopped by Kumari for lunch with some friends this past weekend when we were in Mount Vernon for a few hours. They had a lunch buffet, which on the weekend is just a couple of dollars more than on weekdays. Overall, I thought that the food was okay, quite inconsistent. Some dishes in the buffet weren't bad. I enjoyed the palak paneer and pakora. The rice on the buffet had sat way too long - it had crisped and dried, and I didn't up eating the rice I put on my plate. The Tandoori chicken was dry. The restaurant is nice - comfortable, traditional, quite large (would be good for larger groups). The service was fine - sort of not present at lunch buffet (they left a large carafe of water for us to share and we didn't see any servers after that until we went up to the counter to pay - but that makes sense during buffet lunch). Overall, it was fine. There are definitely places I prefer over Kumari, but if you're looking for an Indian lunch buffet, Kumari isn't a bad option.

Solid place for Indian/ Nepalese food! The momos and the naan were solid and flavorful. The cauliflower was definitely h the stand out of the meal! The other stuff I would pass on. The service was quick and friendly. The decor was nice and the place was clean. Would come back!

Kumari's lunch buffet id very reliable and a good value! Try to get their early for the freshest food. If you go late the hot bar begins to dry out. Located in the upper level of a renovated building, the dining room is very clean despite the age of the building itself. Staff are polite and check on you to ensure you're comfortable without being too pushy. I appreciate that they always keep our drinks filled and cleared our table as necessary. It's a decent value and I like to keep Kumari in my rotation of affordable and accessible lunch options when I'm dining with friends!

It was the first time I'd eaten here, and it was recommended by my coworker. We came during lunch time and had the "lunch buffet." The food was pretty good. Everything tasted fresh. Not bad at all. The service was good too.

Kumari Indian & Nepali Restaurant in Mount Vernon is a go-to spot for us, especially the all-you-can-eat Sunday lunch buffet at $15. The tender Chicken Momos, classic Chicken Tikka, and flavorful Biryani (fried rice) are must-tries. The Gobi Manchurian's crispy spiced cauliflower and tangy mango pickles are delightful. Of course, you have to end your meal with a few cups of Masala Chai! This is a great place for large parties and casual get-togethers, with attentive staff who keep our drinks full and are always ready to help.

Kumari is the reason why I love Indian food!!! Their chicken tikka masala is so flavorful and creamy and their samosa chaat is incredible. They have large portions and everything is so, so good. I've liked everything I've eaten here. Pre-COVID they also used to have a lunch buffet (word on the street is that it also reopened this possibly??). I was so sad to move away from Baltimore - but I will definitely be going back to visit for Kumari.

The food and the service was really good. I got coconut lassi, aloo paratha, chicken momo, and chicken jalfrezi. I loved how big the space is so you have so many choices of where you want to sit.

For the price, the lunch buffet was great! I enjoyed the food quite a bit, but I felt as though the selection could have been a bit better when compared to similar restaurants. Additionally, it took quite a bit of time for the restaurant to bring out new food to replace empty trays in the buffet, such as the naan. Besides that, I liked how quiet it was in the restaurant. Nothing glamorous to look at, but for a casual meal, I'd recommend giving it a shot!

Solid Indian food for medium prices, prompt service, and good location. Started with chicken momos which were tender and soft with a tasty tomato based dipping sauce. The chicken tikka was a classic, rich and savory with good amount of heat (got the medium, very doable). One wish is for the chicken pieces to be a little more tender. Gobi manchurian was a sleeper pick but really glad to have gotten it! Deep fried and crispy cauliflower pieces spiced fantastically. Order a basket of garlic naan to round it out. Parking was easy as a plus (came during lunch).

From the moment you walk under the welcoming sign inside you can tell this place is cared for. It is a beautifully maintained, smaller restaurant that maximizes its space perfectly. The dining area is incredibly clean, cozy, and bright, featuring crisp tablecloths and an awesome "Save the Himalayas" wall mural that adds a great touch of character to the room. The service here is incredibly fast and attentive. We barely had to wait at all before our table was filled with fresh, steaming dishes. The food is where this place truly shines. Everything we ordered was packed with vibrant, well-balanced spices. Appetizers: We started with a perfectly crispy fried pakora/fritter served with sweet and tangy dipping sauces which set a high bar for the rest of the meal. The Momos: You absolutely cannot leave without trying their momos. They are perfectly doughy, juicy, and paired with an addictive orange chutney. We couldn't get enough of them. For the main course, the traditional metal thali tray offered a spectacular variety of flavors. Between the spiced chicken, seasoned potatoes, savory chickpea mixture, and beaten rice, every single component on the plate was an absolute hit. Small, clean, lightning-fast service, and exceptionally great food. Himalayan House hits all the right notes for a perfect casual lunch or dinner. I will definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu!

It's not the best Indian I've ever had but it'll do in a pinch. I was crazing papadam and they do that very well. I like the tamarind and mint sauce and the yogurt sauce is standard but yummy. The butter chicken is flavorful and the lamp as well. The naan was okay and the biryani is quite bland. The worst thing for me is how dry the chicken is. Even though all the chicken was covered in sauce, they were somehow very dry. I'm glad I tried Nepal Place but I would try a different place before returning here.

There's a few options to choose from and after trying each one, I think Nepal House has the best prices for the best quality and flavor. We ordered the butter chicken, chicken tikka masala, and lamb vindaloo. Each came with its own serving of rice and included generous chunks of meat. They didn't just fill up the container with sauce and call it a day, the serving size definitely reflected the price unlike some other places. The lamb vindaloo was full of flavor and spice with soft squares of potatoes. The butter chicken was creamy and comforting with the right spice level. Everything was ready on time and packed with care. I'd love to return to dine in for their lunch buffet since it seems like a great deal.

My wife, our 6-year-old daughter, and I stopped in for an early dinner after spending several hours at the National Aquarium. The restaurant's proximity (under five minutes away) and strong online rating (~4.6) made it an easy choice. We were also influenced by a promotion advertised on their website: buy two entrées, get the third (chicken or vegetarian) free. When we tried to order under that promotion, our server told us they had not run it in "many years." If that is the case, it should not be listed online. It factored into our decision to dine there, and advertising an outdated special is misleading. That said, my negative review is not based primarily--or even secondarily--on the inaccurate promotion. Restaurants ultimately succeed or fail on taste and execution, and that is where this meal fell well short. We ordered the Lamb Junelly, the Kabob Platter, and two garlic naans. The Lamb Junelly, which I requested at a medium spice level, leaned noticeably sweet. It contained surprisingly little lamb, and while I did not find it overly chewy, my wife did. Overall, it lacked depth and balance. The bigger letdown was the Kabob Platter (chicken tikka, lamb seekh kabob, shrimp, and chicken tandoori). All three of us agreed the chicken tikka was dry and nearly flavorless. That says something, given how hungry we were after skipping lunch. My wife captured it best: "I was so looking forward to the Kabob Platter, and I was so disappointed by it. I left the restaurant almost sad." I felt much the same. Service was acceptable but inattentive. Our server never checked in during the meal. Had he done so, I likely would have asked for lemon slices to brighten the kabobs. When we left--around 6:00 p.m. on a Thursday--we were the only guests in the restaurant, yet there was no acknowledgment from our server or the staff members sitting nearby. That absence of basic hospitality stood out. This is not an inexpensive place (garlic naan costs $7 apiece). At those prices, execution and attentiveness matter. On this visit, both fell short. Among the many restaurants I have visited, this would land in my bottom quartile. I would not return, and I would not recommend it--especially for the à la carte dinner service.
