This was our restaurant of choice for Baltimore Restaurant Week and it did NOT disappoint!! It's a small, cozy, intimate spot that really makes you feel like you're being let in on a special dining experience, making it perfect for date night. The service is solid and the servers are quick to refill waters and clear the table The food is the star of this review. Their Baltimore Restaurant Week menu was a 7 course (!!) meal that was truly an experience and absolutely worth the price. My favorites were the chicken cutlets, the sorbet, and the white chicken curry. Honorable mention to the side dishes because we got refills and they were so good. When we first arrived, the restaurant was pretty busy, but as it got closer to closing it became much less crowded, which made the experience even more enjoyable. This is a hidden gem dining experience in Hampden. I've already recommended it to friends and will definitely be back to try more items on the menu!

I was in the area to pick up and this spot popped up and thought it would be a good one to try for appetizers. Cozy interior with some outside seating. I was asked if I had a reservation when I walked in-I didn't and asked if I was out of luck. They did have some open tables but I was picking up. Quite around 5:30. Based on the friendly staff's recommendation, ordered Tikki Chaat, Mixed Veggie Pakodas and Trini Doubles. All 3 were Vegan and delicious with complex spices/flavors- the Pakodas are also Gluten free. If I had to choose a favorite it would be the Chaat-Potato Patties dipped in curried chutney with just the right amount of spicy. Service was exceptional with a high level of patience for answering my questions and providing recommendations. Picked up a bit by 6. Will be back for dinner. If in Hampden, make this stop!

Ive gone twice to this place and the second time was Even better than the first. Started with a couple small plates, veg samosa, Lamb Vindaloo, salmon, Trini Doubles. ALL smashing; favorites were the Doubles and Salmon. Then an entree of Shrimp Kurma that was incredible all around, great shrimp, amazing curry, good portion and beautiful presentation. LASSI is also great always will recommend It's a row home converted into a restaurant so it's not the biggest, but they make good use of the space. I believe there's a patio as well. There is also a bar. This place is great heart heart heart ‍

The service was amazing! Such accommodating service (especially when it comes to Celiac Disease) Food was amazing! Chill energy 10/10

What a cute little spot in the heart of Hampden! We stumbled across this place after googling Indian restaurants in the area and this one stood out. Now I know why! we went by for a Saturday lunch - the restaurant is small and cozy. They were a little short staffed that afternoon but managed to get us seated and served in a timely fashion. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Ambiance - the place is well decorated with cushions, paintings, and brightly coloured walls! Service - fantastic! We got to meet the owner of the place and she was able to make fantastic recommendations for us Food - I loved the tapas concept, which meant we got to try 4 or 5 different dishes. I also loved that she has kept the flavours authentic and not tried to dampen down the intensity of some of the traditional dishes. I felt like I was eating home cooked food! (if you are not a fan of richly flavoured, or spicy food, this may not be the place for you) They have a good selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. I do believe they have some vegan options too. Prices - reasonable It is very rare to find an Indian restaurant that hasn't "Americanized" their dishes - Verandah kitchen is one of them. We will definitely be back.

Summary: If you want food that tastes like my mom cooks it at home in India, go here! Not going to waste time putting you through a long review. Im picky with my five stars and this place gets one. The food was excellent (not your usual synthetic Indian restaurant types), location was great, ambience was amazing, and service was awesome. Prices are not cheap, but the Verandah delivers on flavors and the experience. I'd definitely go back and would be happy to say positive things about this place to everyone.

Back at Verandah for another delicious dinner! We pretty much ordered the same exact things again except this time, instead of the chicken meatball, we got the chicken kurma. The veggie pakoras were very yummy despite being a different selection of veggies this time around. It was more onions and less squash and sweet potato (or pumpkin?) than last time. Probably just due to seasonal availability. The chana masala was also delicious and very filling but much spicier than I remember. I love spicy food and can handle a bit of heat but this was definitely making my nose run! I loved the chicken kurma too and the soft potatoes it came with. A little disappointing they don't have a butter chicken on the menu but this was a nice option if you're craving something like that. We also tried the chilled red wine and we were pleasantly surprised with how refreshing it was. Service was friendly as always too. Always love the fact that I can come here and not be confused about allergens. Everything is so clearly marked and I love how the menu is organized by vegetarian, poultry, seafood, etc. Makes it so easy to order and select what you're in the mood for!

I had a really delicious meal here for winter restaurant week. As many times as I've walked by this place I had yet to order or stop in so restaurant week was a good opportunity to try something new. The space is small but really inviting. It feels like you're sitting in someone's home waiting for a dinner party to begin. The restaurant week special was a six course menu tasting. There were two selections one for omnivores and one for vegetarians. I selected the omnivore option. The tasting begin with the most luscious soup I've had in a long time, before moving on to a fried seafood shrimp dish with my favorite spicy green chutney. The next courses were curry chicken and keema paratha. Paratha is one of my favorite Indian foods and this one did not disappoint. The chicken curry was fine, but I actually enjoyed the curry tofu more; the flavors that were imparted, chef's kiss! The final savory course was a rice dish speckled with lentils and served with a side of ghee. To end our culinary journey we indulged in the perfect gulab jamun. Everything was truly wonderful! The chef/owner came out to ask how our meal was and we were so stuffed we could only smile and nod lol. Definitely coming back!

My friend and I went to the Verandah for dinner and had a great experience! We sat outside on the porch which was nice and shaded from the early evening summer sun. The menu was super descriptive and I appreciated the cultural context shared for various dishes. We split the Basket Chaat (crisp tortilla baskets loaded with spiced potatoes, red onions, chutney, and yogurt) which was delicious and the perfect way to start off our meal. For my main course, I got the Paneer Tikka Masala. I had never seen an Indian dish presented quite this way - it was really nicely plated! The food was super flavorful and a perfect portion size. I definitely recommend checking Verandah out for some delicious Indian!

Sometimes you get to a place with no planning and it turns out to be a total surprise and our recent dining experience at Verandah was exactly that. We came here to grab some early dinner apps during our recent visit to Baltimore. The place is small but modern, chic, and cute. There is also outdoor seating but we decided to sit indoors. I'm forgetting the owner's name but she was so courteous and nice and made our dining experience was very memorable. She was very accomodating and made sure we got comfortable, especially with our 10-month daughter getting used to the place :) This place is BYOB which is a plus, and we ordered Vada Pav, Paneer Malai Kofta, and Sabudana Vada. Everything was delicious with a perfect mix of flavors. We thoroughly enjoyed all the food and would come back to try more things off their menu. A great combination of good food and service make this place a must-visit when in the area.

Food was sub par, not sure why the reviews here were high. Chicken curry was runny and bland. Chicken was well cooked though. Garlic naan tasted stale. Saabu Dana vada was salty. Their mango lassi was smooth and the only thing I enjoyed from this place. Quantities were less for the price. I doubt if I will order here again.

I've been multiple times and genuinely have not had one thing I didn't like. The tuna melt, wings, collard greens, bowls, pastries, lattes, cocktails...everything is consistently a 9 or 10 out of 10. But what makes Mama Koko's even more special is the experience. The owners and staff are incredibly warm, down-to-earth, and welcoming. It feels like going to your mama's or auntie's house, sitting down with your cousins, eating good food, and just enjoying everything that is Black greatness. The music, art, style, culture, and energy are all part of it. They feature local artists, the soul, R&B and hip-hop are always playing, everybody is fly, and the whole space just feels GOOD. Amazing food, amazing drinks, amazing people, amazing atmosphere. Mama Koko's is Baltimore at its best.

Btw service is just okay, same as my previous visit. This time I ate outdoor. Although they bring the food to your table after you order at the bar, they do not return. I had to move our plates to an empty table just to clear it. Late night menu: I ordered the vegan bowl. The yams and greens were really good. The rest of the bowl items were okay. I also ordered fried plantains, which were basic, but decent nothing special... The beans were seasoned well and shockingly good, the rice was just plain white rice... Vibe 5 stars... indoor and outdoor seating It appears to be an every age group type of environment. No tvs, forcing everyone to socialize which was cool... the only down side is the music is too loud to actually hold conversations inside when there is a DJ. Street parking is available.

Came here for Baltimore Restaurant week during brunch for the $25 bottomless buffet special. Its…read moreusually hard to get a breakfast buffet wrong but unfortunately this buffet experience was lackluster. They offered a variety of items: deviled eggs, scrambled eggs, chicken and waffles, beef and chorizo quesadillas, sausage, home fries, and French toast. They advertised fruit salad on the menu but they didn't have it out on the day we went. For starters, the food was lukewarm. Everything could have tasted so much better if it was warm. Even when they would refill the pans, everything was still not warm enough. The restaurant was not packed but they were slow to refill for the parties that were there. When we tried to go back for a second plate, most of the items weren't replenished and the line was getting longer. It was so bad that one group asked to pay for their drinks and leave because they weren't able to get any food. My option of each item: Deviled eggs- yolk mixture was on the drier side and bland Scrambled eggs- they were ok. Just needed to be warm Chicken and waffles- it was giving "chicken tender on eggo waffle" chicken was better than the bland waffle. It also didn't help that the syrup they had was cold and thick. It made the waffle (and French toast) colder and hard to swallow. French toast- the first batch was (with the exception of being cold) perfectly cooked and dusted with cinnamon and powdered sugar. The refill batches were so burnt and hard to chew and they didn't bother putting powdered sugar on them. Again, the cold syrup didn't help. Beef and chorizo quesadillas- they may have been a crowd favorite because getting a second serving was hard because they kept going quickly and took a while to replenish. They just needed to be warmer and served with sour cream. Home fries- great with the peppers and onions. Just need to be warmer. Sausage- my least favorite thing because it didn't taste like Sausage. It was very dry. Sadly, the food was a epic fail. This may be a great place for cocktails because the bartender mixed our margaritas perfectly. They had a Build Your Own Margarita menu with many different flavor options. I opted for the watermelon margarita with a Tajin rim. Delicious! My friend had a pineapple mango margarita with sugar rim and he was impressed also. The drinks earned them an extra star because otherwise, I think the food and the slow refilling of the buffet earned it 2 stars.

I could tell from other conversations throughout the restaurant that the other servers were equally kind to their patrons. The decor is beautiful! I feel like I don't usually see restaurants with such a strong aesthetic in the Fulton area. I think the ambiance created by the decor definitely heightened my experience. Now, for the food. What we ordered: - Traditional Country Spinach Pie - Falafel - Spicy Lamb Beef Dip - Grilled Octopus - Grilled Salmon - Chicken Tenderloin - Athenian Shrimp The spinach pie and falafel were standard; good, but nothing to write home about. The spicy lamb dip was my party's favorite mezze. I feel that Cypriana does meats very well (especially the grilled ones). But the dishes were brought down by the sides. The grilled salmon, octopus, and chicken were all delicious! However, the red quinoa mixture tasted incredibly earthy. I did not enjoy it, but some healthier members of my party did haha. The chicken and fries was probably the best pairing (and child-approved!). Regarding the "Athenian Shrimp": Upon some research, I believe this is the restaurant's interpretation of Garides Saganaki. The restaurant served the sauce on a bed of pilaf. From my understanding, shrimp saganaki is more commonly (not exclusively) eaten as a dip with bread. Of course, there's no "wrong" way to serve anything, but the rice paired with the Athenian Shrimp was incredibly moist to the point of distraction. The sauce was very good, but I found myself eventually eating around the rice because the wet texture was so off-putting. I think the sauce would have been better paired with a pasta, pita, or baguette.
