Called and specifically asked if they offered edge sharpening without doing a whole ski tune. (Base grind and wax) They checked the system and said yes, even providing me a quote for the service. When I got there about an hour later, they said they don't do just the edges. I'm not a fan of leaving bad reviews but I also don't appreciate 2 hours out of my day being wasted by unprofessionalism. I have become a big fan of the Pedigree Ski Shop on Mamaroneck Avenue and I don't even ski! My wife and I love to play tennis snd they have a fantastic selection of all kinds of tennis clothing. They also sell all kinds of winter clothing, gloves, hats , boots etc which come in handy even if you aren't interested in going skiing! However we have lots of friends who love their selection of skis and equipment! I have found the staff to be incredibly helpful and one of the reasons I'm writing this review is that I couldn't believe some of the other negative reviews regarding their staff. My wife and I were impressed by blow polite snd helpful they were to us every time we've been in their store!! There aren't a lot of stores where you can receive personal and professional assistance and I don't believe that you'd want to buy ski equipment from on online retailer! read more

Love it here! Been a customer since I was a wee skier at age four. Got my first pair of Rosignol skis here. I will go out of my to buy things here that I could otherwise get online. I'm an avid tennis player and although their tennis department is small (skiing reigns supreme at Pedigree) they are extremely knowledgeable and often indulge me with all the minutia with which I am obsessed. I recently needed a racquet restrung almost immediately and they delivered. All of the employees are helpful and kind and really great even when they seem overwhelmed with all the customers in the store (it's often extremely busy.) Will return again and again. Went here in the winter to rent skis. We had someone with us who had been skiing for many years and we had called ahead for what we wanted to get but just needed fitting. I haven't skied much and told the man helping us when he asked. He proceeded to measure my foot but decided I didn't need to try on the boots (I guess he thought his measuring would be fine). We asked again to try on the shoes but he said it's fine you dont need to. Then at the end we were getting our stuff and I asked for my poles he said oh you aren't getting poles, you're a beginner. What? I said, OK but I wanted poles, he didn't want to give me them because he thought it would help me learn better. I get that,but I'm trying to have fun for 1 day with my family! So, after all that, guess what? The boots didn't even fit well. They were too tight. Because some arrogant guy thought he could just measure and didn't let me try on boots. All I can say is that these guys' customer service is top notch based on my recent experiences. For example, was returning two pairs of skies & a pair of boots, parked in the lot & was struggling with getting the equipment out of the trunk, out of nowhere, this guy appears & said I will help you. Every time I walked through the door someone was there to greet you & within literally seconds help was on the way. I have never had to wait for more then a minute or two to be helped. I was never pushed in any manner to buy or rent. Recently I came in to have my blades tuned & to rent lll-ooo-nnn-ggg skies. I brought my ski boots for the fitting & made a comment that 'these probably belong in a museum' expecting a sales pitch. No, that was not the case. Drove up to this place from Manhattan because it was the only shop within a reasonable distance that had wide brakes for my skis. The first thing you notice when you pull up to this place is how big it is. So big that ski and snowboard stuff are split into two different stores. Went up the day before new years and it was packed. They have a very large selection of clothes and a decent selection of boots and skis. The staff is a mix of older people and college age kids. Everyone seems pretty knowledgeable. My grips with the place are how expensive stuff is. Given that they cater to a wealthy clientele, everything is really costly. I absolutely needed to get my bindings mounted to my skis which is the only reason I paid 80 DOLLARS! To me this is absolutely ridiculous, this should be like 35 tops. A big part of this cost is the insurance they have to pay for in order to mount bindings, also the equipment they use is tremendously expensive. Still, it needs to be cheaper on the customer end. Also they said it would be between 15-1hr depending on how much work was in the service area already. This I didn't have a problem with initially because it was better then waiting a few days. When we came back after an hr, one ski was done and the guy had been working on the second. The problem with this is we ended up waiting another hr in the shop because no one thought to bring the skis up after they were done with the work. It wasn't until the initial employee who had been helping us saw us waiting that he realized what happened. He then quickly fixed the problem. Everyone at this shop is nice, but its a haul from manhattan and the prices aren't going to bring me back. I appreciate how they helped me out, but I'll be going elsewhere in the future. read more

This place isn't that great - I've been in here several times, usually looking for winter gear. I can honestly say I've circled the store many times without anyone ever asking if I needed help. It's really difficult to find certain equipment here because the store is a strange shape, and it seems like clothes, gear and other equipment are scattered. It's hard to find certain things I'm looking for. Maybe on my several visits here I would've bought something, if someone asked me if I needed help. We rented our seasonal ski set here. As it was weekend the store was very crowded but each staff was so attentive and quick to help us for procedure. So we didn't feel any stress to finish all our shopping here. Kids ski rental cost only $130 around for 6months! Be aware they charge deposit the same price but it will be returned when you return set back to the store. We also bought helmet and goggle for my son which cost $150 in total but the staff helped us to find best fit one so was good purchase. read more

Pedigree has been around for a very long time. They cater mainly to families in Westchester County. The prices are not particularly competitive and the knowledge of the staff is poor. A while ago I was sold a pair of Salomon boots. They always felt wrong and I returned several times to Pedigree for adjustments. Ultimately, I gave up on them and bought a new pair while in Park City, Utah at Jans Mountain Sports. I discovered that the boots that several Pedigree employees told me were the correct size were in fact a size and a half too big!!! So basically I was out $500.00 due to the incompetence of Pedigree's staff. I suspect that when I returned they were aware that they were not the right size but just passed me along and gave me lip service. After I discovered that I had been fitted incorrectly I returned to Pedigree and spoke with a manager. The response of the manager? Too bad! Will I ever buy expensive equipment from them? Absolutely not. I would not trust the advice of the employees at this store. Another crummy aspect to this business I just discovered yesterday. My son received a new ski helmet as a gift from my sister. Unfortunately, it was too small for him. My sister, who shops very early for Christmas, gave me the receipt and I figured they would just do an exchange. This was not to be because Pedigree allows no returns or EXCHANGES after ten days of purchase!!! I was flabbergasted by this policy. At a minimum, a customer should get the full amount paid as a credit if they have the receipt. The witchlike woman who I argued with gave me attitude and said all they would credit me was a discounted amount where they in effect stole $40.00 from my sister the early bird shopper, and I had to make up the difference. This rubbed me the wrong way and I told this woman so. She did not care at all. I took the credit and walked out with a new helmet (which cost me an additional $40.00). The first thing I said to my wife when we got in the car was " I will never set foot in that place ever again." She agreed. I also discovered that if you have a return, you can never get a refund, only a store credit (Even if I make it back in ten days!?!? Nope...). Before the helmet imbroglio occurred, I checked out the selection of skis. The selection was mediocre and consisted of a variety of low end models. I only saw one model of Volkl available which I found surprising since this is a very popular high end brand of skis. They did have a fair amount of low end K2s, which I think are not so great and are now made in China (how disappointing!). I try to support specialty shops whenever I can. I do not mind paying a bit more for good service. However, when I get lousy service at a premium price I go elsewhere. When you patronize a specialty shop, the expectation is that you will receive excellent customer service and not low rent service. Pedigree unfortunately provides the latter. The dopey return policy was the last straw for me and completely turned off my wife as well. As a result of this stupidity, they lost us as customers. We are avid skiers and regularly purchase ski equipment and accessories. We also have a 3.5 year old who outgrows his equipment and ski clothes annually. The lousy service we received has cost Pedigree a good long term customer for the princely sum of $40.00. This is a classic example of a shortsighted and foolish business practice. Had we been treated right, Pedigree would have made thousands from our business over time. I hope Pedigree enjoys the $40.00 because they will never get a penny from me or my family in the future! A word of advice to Pedigree, people do not like being treated shabbily and will go elsewhere when they are! read more

Pedigree has a decent selection of equipment and a big selection of clothes, but the sales person who helped me was pushy and a little rude. I came in and explained that I was thinking of purchasing beginner/intermediate skis and boots and wanted to see the options. The sales person showed me a pair of skis and sized me for boots. I was still unsure if I wanted to make the leap from rentals to buying my own set, so I asked if I could write down the equipment and think about it. The sales person then launched into a tirade about how it wasn't a good idea to buy ski equipment from the internet and that it would cost $70 to get my bindings put on (not sure if it actually costs $70 at Pedigree, but that seems really high compared to other ski shops in NJ or northern Westchester). I had no intention of buying my skis on the internet, so it sort of came out of nowhere. He also put a lot of pressure on me to buy the one option he presented to me, saying it was the only one left. I realize that it was probably true, given it's the end of the season, but I later went to two other ski shops (Ski Haus in Brewster, NY and Paragon Sports in Manhattan) where the stock situation was the same but the sales people were nicer and not pushy at all. After this experience, I'd recommend going to Ski Haus in Brewster, NY. I had such a great experience buying my skis there that I later brought two of my friends there to get snowboards and they were just as happy with the staff and selection. The gal greeter at the front door was very nice and friendly. She passed me along to a guy who she said could help me with my brief questions about renting and/or purchasing skis. This guy's attention was everywhere but with what I was trying to explain. I found him to be snobby and aloof. I gave him the chance to sell me some skis. Yes, I would have probably purchased the right ones for me. His reply to me was "we don't work on commission." I guess that means that he didn't want to make the sale for his shop, which is unfortunate for their bottom-line. Shocked and disappointed that this ski shop would not accept my return for an exchange. The receipt I was given explicitly states returns for credit are accepted 10 or fewer days from the purchase with the receipt included. Not only was I prepared with the receipt but the ski pants I intended to exchange had all of the original tags still attached. I was turned down for my exchange because the pants had a small scuff mark on the leg. I don't know if the staff is just incompetent or if there's a company-wide policy of bad customer service, but I will definitely not take my business back to this shop. They will tell you anything to not accept a return, even at the expense of their own stated policy and customer service. read more

We rented our seasonal skiis from Pedigree for the first time, really out of necessity because the season already started. We rented for 1 kid and 1 adult. Some how during the year my husband drove the truck over my daughters rented skis. We took them back to pedigree to see what could be done. First they were so friendly and accommodating. They replaced my daughters rented skis that day and we were back on the mountain the next. That is what I call service with a smile. Thank you pedigree. We are definitely coming back next year... Best ski store in the area. I have rented skis from Pedigree for years. This year I bought myself skis from Pedigree. Staff are friendly and prices are fair. The staff also don't push products on you. They give you honest feedback about each product. Just as a warning, it gets crazy and hectic in the store come late October and November so rent early. Went into Pedigree on a quiet (and really hot) May afternoon and it was dead. Aside from the staff (and there were a lot of them working for such a slow day), my SO and I were the only ones in the shop. We browsed through the HUGE store and selection and I ended up finding a cute sun-dress in their summer/tennis section. The dress was priced at just under $50.00 but I walked away with it for $33 after I received a discount from one of the store managers. I think that the service and selection here is amazing, but I can't speak to the cost of their ski equipment. We have shopped at Pedigree for over 25 years and it's hard to find a store that has the same level of industry knowledge coupled with a strong mission of customer satisfaction. Between their clothing and equipment, their salespeople have great know how and take the time to help you find exactly what you need. Even while vacationing in Colorado, I have relied on their expertise and had gear shipped to me, often at comparable prices to local merchants on the mountain. They really care about their customers and have taken gear back if I wasn't completely satisfied. They must be doing something right because some of their store managers have been with the company for as long as I've shopped there. I wish all the merchants I dealt with had the same level of customer attentiveness and value-added knowledge. read more

I had my two pairs of skis tuned and one set of bindings adjusted. The price was higher than what I've paid in the past, but not way out there either. The staff was polite and helpful. My salesperson Cathy was fantastic with my 4-year old daughter; she was able to size her perfectly for a helmet and snowsuit and was very knowledgeable about how everything should fit. I needed warm clothing for a trip to a very cold ski area where I would NOT be skiing, but wanted to be comfortable while walking around. I shopped at Pedigree Ski Shop because they have quality merchandise. For ten days on my trip, I walked up and down roads and paths covered with snow and ice and was very comfortable. After the trip, I put those pants away and did not think about them until this autumn. When I took them out to wear again, I noticed that the pants showed a great deal of wear after just a few days in snow country. I brought the pants back to Pedigree and showed them how the fabric had pilled. I was very pleased when Pedigree Ski Shop helped me by locating my original receipt and sending the garment back to the manufacturer. They gave me a store credit and I was able to purchase new pants, which are holding up much better. The staff were kind and pleasant while helping me with this problem. We came back for the second year to rent equipment for our kids. Last year we bought $2,500 of equipment. We spent 45 minutes getting outfitted boots and skis for the kids. At check out, they told us that the 10% discount only applied Monday-Friday; today was Saturday. They would not honor the discount. We asked to put the equipment aside and we'd pick it up on Monday; no dice. Then we asked to just tell us the sizing of the boots and skis and we'd come back to get new equipment during the week. Again, no. The only way they would honor the discount is if we came back, with the kids, during the week and got re-fitted for 45 minutes. Crazy. I would have gone every year for probably a decade because it's close and convenient. But there is a clear lack of customer respect. They must have gotten complacent, having been in business for so long now. I would say go to Hickory and Tweed or REI or some other competitor who actually wants your business and does not feel entitled. read more

Ended up a Pedigree after an unsuccessful trip to the other local ski shop. I went in with little time to spare and an issue as I have wide calfs. (The other local shop was going to make me pay an extra $125 for boots that fit well because they were newer. Completely unwilling to work with us.) Ray was the associate who fit me for boots. My husband and I began taking our children to Butternut and then Jiminy Peak each weekend throughout the winter season five years ago. I have had two experiences which have informed my decision not to do business with this store. When I was new to the sport a few years ago, I spent a lot of time and money gearing my family up. After my first two years, we had all of the basic gear and I went to Pedigree to pick up an extra pair of socks for one of my children. I was annoyed that I had to say no at least three times to a salesperson who tried to push gloves, goggles and one other item (gator, maybe?) on me. I repeatedly explained that I was "all set". My impression was that if you have money to burn and you know nothing about skiing, Pedigree will make a killing off you. I felt like they just wanted my money and we're trying every angle to get it. On a more recent occasion, I purchased a sweater for my husband online for a ski weekend with his work colleagues. I purchased it last minute and thought I could pick it up at the store in White Plains to save shipping time. When I picked it up, I realized the quality was not what I expected and it looked quite different in person than it did online. I understand that can happen. After unsuccessfully searching for an alternative sweater, I brought my issue to the attention of one of the employees who brushed me off saying that no returns are allowed when an item is purchased over the Internet. I then asked to speak to a manager and was brusquely informed of this again. What bothered me was not only the fact that I hadn't yet left the store with the item and the fact that Pedigree's website clearly states all items are returnable but the rude way in which I was treated in front of other customers (as if I were a troublemaker). After I pulled up the website language on my iPhone that said I could return the item, the manager did "apologize" saying they get a lot of people who try to "pull things". I don't know what that means. The receipt was in the bag. He then smoothly tried to get me to buy another sweater and then asked if I needed ....goggles!?? Are you kidding? He never asked about where I ski, what kind of skier I was, why I was there in the first place, anything about me. At this point, I wanted to take my business elsewhere. This happened two years ago. Perhaps they have fixed this problem, I admit. But I will not be back. I am rather new to Yelp, but I have been meaning to write this review for some time because I feel others should be warned. There are ski shops around here filled with employees who are passionate about skiing and then there are others that simply want to make a buck. read more
