Two days ago, I had an emergency visit with Dr. Sparkman. A dental implant originally installed by a past dentist in another office had fallen out of my mouth! Dr. Sparkman, as always, was very meticulous about making sure in advance that everything needed to reattach the implant was in the office when I arrived and thirouan was attuned to my needs in terms of the use of Nitrous Oxide and Carbocaine. The procedure went very well, and I was comfortable the whole time. Since then, I have the use of my dental implant and can chew on that side of my mouth again--thanks to Dr. Sparkman's and the staff's help while Dr. 'D' needed to be away from the office for a few days! I have used this practice for several years, and think that they are great! The office is pleasant, nicely decorated, and apparently outfitted with the "newest and best" medical equipment. The staff are all friendly, professional, and efficient. Tiffany does a great job with regular cleanings, and works quickly and "painlessly!" Doctor D'Auria is a superb dentist....he has done several procedures for me which have gone very well. He does a great job explaining what is needed, and has excellent skills and "patient demeanor." He also works quickly and efficiently.....as an example, my last appointment to replace an old filling was at 11:40 AM....and I was leaving his office at 12 Noon, all fixed-up and "pain free!" In the hierarchy of health care providers there is a reason why dentists rank between chiropractors and veterinarians. When a dentist is located in a retail location in an active community shopping center one can assume that practice is expecting walk in trade and is not relying on referrals. When the dental practice is located between a beauty salon and an exercise studio, one can assume the dental practice is selling vanity dentistry, Sparkman is a template for this marketing model and should be renamed, "Glamour Grills R Us". First time clients can expect to be hustled into the hygienist chair, subjected to a battery of X-rays and after a cursory look at the results, be informed of the impending disaster which is their mouth. Standard opening line is always, " We suspect you may have periodontal disease". After clinically evaluating your teeth and always implying doom and gloom with phrases like, "you may have", "there is a possibility", "we suspect", the hygienist will point out anomalies in the x-rays as examples of conditions which may develop into serious dental problems. Of course these clinically diagnosed conditions will require further investigation and that will be administered by "deep cleaning" your teeth. I never got a clear understanding of how "deep cleaning" my teeth would conclude the presence of periodontal disease or any other condition. I did get the message that deep cleaning my teeth would cost $1,500.00 rather than the $200.00 I was expecting to pay. I also got the message that by deep cleaning my teeth Dr. Sparkman would undoubtedly diagnose some condition which would require additional visits to his office. Through the entire visit, the underlying theme both articulated and implied is, " What type of insurance. does this guy have and what will they pay?" There are two interesting side notes to this experience. The last time we left our cat for boarding at our former veterinarian in Dunwoody Village they called with distressing news, our cat had periodontal disease and require his teeth be cleaned for the amount of $700.00, this absolutely did happen. And recently there was a quote of the day in the New York Times about health care in the dermatology profession. "It may be better to wait and see but waiting doesn't make you money. It's, Let me do a little snip of tissue, then they get professional lab and facilities fees. Each patient is like an ATM machine." Dr. Sparkman and his staff are super! I have been going to him for about 10 years now. He has put in at least four crowns for me. What I like best is that he has state of the art equipment. Digital x-ray which uses less radiation and he can make your crowns right in the office. No temporaries where you have to come back for the final crown. He has a milling machine in the office which makes the final crown while you wait. He is also very fair. I broke a night guard and he didn't charge me for a replacement. read more

If you are a weenie at the dentist, then Dr. Sparkman is the dentist for you. At 40 yrs old I never had a novacaine shot, too scared. Dr. Sparkman was the first dentist to give me one. I've been going to Dr. Sparkman for several years and my entire family sees him, as well. When you are well into your 50's and have a lifetime of too much sugar and not enough floss, the news isn't always positive. However, I have found that quality dentistry comes at a cost. Whenever Dr. Sparkman has to make a less-than-pleasant recommendation, he tries to delay the work for as long as possible to reduce my physical or financial pain. He's "expensive", but losing my teeth or dealing with an inept dentist (I've had several of those in my time, too), is worth it. He's fair. He's honest. And his staff is exemplary. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Sparkman for a few years now. I can honestly say that he is the best dentist I have ever been to. His "chair side" manners are outstanding. I was in a tragic accident falling from about 8 feet in the air, slamming my face into concrete. This caused me to chip my two front teeth horribly and lose a tooth as well. My mom found Dr. Sparkman at around 10:00 a.m. and he told us to come in even though his office would be closing at 2:00. As soon as we arrived it took about 30 seconds to be called to the back and Dr. Sparkman was already on his way to come see me, he knew it was going to take a lot of work so while his assistant was taking my x-rays he went to go grab a bite to eat and even bought me a bowl of chicken noodle soup since I couldn't eat anything hard. He then performed two root canals, made me a fake tooth for the time being, put filling on my two front teeth, and placed a wire on my teeth to hold them together all in the same day. We were there from 10:30 in the morning to 6:00 at night, but Dr. Sparkman did not care how long it took as long as he made me look pretty again. With his hilarious sense of humor and amazing generosity, him and his assistant made me feel so comfortable and Made sure I had no pain. My mother had already decided that first day that he was going to be our new family dentist. Dr. Sparkman and his staff are fabulous. I am a long time patient (almost 20 years) and have had no complaints with cleanings or more major procedures such as root canals, crowns, surgery, etc. He is always on top of the latest procedures, tools and research and his office is state-of-the-art. Everyone is very professional and the atmosphere is easygoing, making a what could be an otherwise stressful visit a calm one. I have never been pressured into considering any vanity dentistry but appreciate being told about options I may have with regard to my dental health or the appearance of my teeth.
