It just keeps getting better! My third time playing here,…read morethe last was 3 years ago. The weather forecast was sketchy, it rained from Forest City all the way in. I arrived about 40 min before my tee time & Scott was able to assist with loading my bag on the cart. Todd checked me in & said that it had rained steady early but they were in a 'window' where he believed I could get in 18 holes & not be soaked. There were a number of cancellations so I had no one in front or behind me except for a single who played through. A light misty rain on the front but by the turn it was lighter. So easy to access the club house. restaurant and bathroom to make a quick turn. That roast beef sammy grab n go at the Garden hit the spot. Overall conditions were fine just a few holes where the greens were spotty looking & the tee boxes were a little over used but for he most part, it was good. Evidently they had not had any rain for weeks until the Memorial Day monsoon when I played. I carded a 78 from the forward tees, one stroke better than my personal best. I was able to walk around the greens like a pro on tour and make some putts. On #18, Par 5, I just missed an Eagle by a foot! Not too shabby for a Super Senior. Sadly had to cancel my Saturday round at Apple Valley Course, just two miles up the road, standing water in the fairways and tee boxes.

This is a shot makers course. You don't exactly have to be a long ball hitter, but you better keep it in play. The conditioning is really looking good. Greens roll true, fairways are in good shape, and the rough does its job, just enough punishment to remind you to keep it straight. Where this course shines is in the layout. It is a visually pleasing course. The entire course meanders along the North Fork of the Catawba River. Holes 9, 11, 12, and 13 actually play across either the river or feeder streams, and 7, 8, and 14 play along side the river. Because of the course following the river, it avoids unnecessary elevation changes and has just enough up and downs to keep it very interesting. This is a must play for folks visiting in the mountains.

This is a shoemakers dream. Unlike most mountain courses, this one does not attempt to be so hard it can't be mastered. With a mountain stream running through its entirety bad shots are paid for in golf balls and added strokes. Most courses in the area are dishearteningly difficult with holes carved out if the side of a 45 degree slope. Check out the pictures and you will agree Linville Falls is a great course! Give them your business. 5 star friendly. The clubhouse is not fully stocked and that's the only downfall. I would have bought swag if they had any that's how much I like this course! Hit it straight!

James is getting married in Black Mountain in August and we wanted to find a course where we could take the groomsman for a pre-wedding golf outing. They don't have a driving range. The practice putting area is very small. The fairways are wide open but there were several areas where ground was under repair and the areas were not marked. There are several holes where there are blind shots and there are severe dog legs. The tee boxes were just OK, some where the grass was bare and others were spotty. The greens for the most part were better than average. The 17th hole which is a 747 yard par 6 requires you hit it over the main road to the green. You have to watch your shot because there are powerlines that you have to take into account. The Green Tee Grill was better than we expected. On the 9th tee, they have a menu and the phone number so you can call ahead. It was ready when we got there and the Club Sandwich was good. At $50 bucks for a Sunday morning tee time, overpriced IMO.

I played Satruday afternoon and it was only $40.00. The greens played much slower than I expected since the course was apparently dry, but there were low lying areas in some fairways still holding water. The water hazards on the course are in the form of lateral creeks that run throughout the property. The ranger did a great job of getting everyone out onto the course on time, but a second ranger monitoring speed of play might have helped. The first nine took two and a half hours. I was by myself, there was a two-some in front of me, a three-some in front of them (with one walking), and I could see that they were at times waiting on the tee for whoever was in front of them. It was a great day to play golf in short sleeves under a partly cloudy sky. The fairways should come on and green up in the next several weeks.

Silver Creek Golf Club - A Hidden Treasure in the Foothills…read more I spent the last 4 days playing at Silver Creek while hosting and annual Ryder Cup event. If this course was in Charlotte, I would definitely be a member. It's a course you can play everyday and it doesn't feel the same. Below is a full review and I highly recommend you give it try. Nestled in the heart of Morganton, North Carolina, Silver Creek Golf Club offers a complete golfing experience that rivals some of the best-known courses in the region, yet still maintains its welcoming, community-focused charm. Course Layout & Playing Experience The course is beautiful, with a thoughtful and strategic layout. Silver Creek strikes that rare balance--challenging enough to test low handicaps, but fair and forgiving enough that mid- and high-handicap players walk off the 18th with a smile. The variety in hole design ensures that no two shots feel repetitive, and there's a natural flow to the round that golfers will appreciate. Conditioning & Pace of Play Course conditions are superb. The fairways roll true and set up scoring opportunities, while the greens are nothing short of excellent--quick enough to be exciting, but never unfair. Be aware of some of the down hill down grains putts though. They are so quick. The greens hold well, run smooth, and consistently reward a confident stroke. Silver Creek's commitment to 10-minute tee times is a game-changer. It allows for an unhurried pace of play, and my four consecutive rounds all finished in just about four hours--unheard on the weekends at the public courses where near my home. Scenery & Setting The mountain views are simply spectacular. From elevated tees and open fairways, you catch sweeping glimpses of the Blue Ridge that frame your round with natural beauty. Those views alone make any downtime an experience, giving Silver Creek an atmosphere that's as memorable as the golf itself. Hospitality & Amenities Equally impressive is the people. The staff embodies southern hospitality--warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making sure each golfer has the best possible day. After the round, Papa's Grill is the perfect capstone. The food is superb--well beyond what you'd expect at a golf course restaurant. Whether it's a hearty burger, fresh-made sandwiches, or daily specials, everything is served with the same attention to quality that you find out on the course. Final Verdict Silver Creek Golf Club isn't just a place to play--it's a place to return to, time and again. With a challenging but fair layout, exceptional conditioning, stunning mountain views, a staff that makes you feel like family, and a restaurant that could stand alone on its own reputation, Silver Creek has carved out a well-deserved spot among North Carolina's most enjoyable golfing destinations.
