Pretty much a disaster of automation. I'm on auto pay, there was a $120 "glitch" 18 months ago (which should have been picked off with my auto pay setup). Mountain Health Coop canceled me, told me 45 days later and continued to charge my auto pay. No emails. One letter. Everything very automated. Customer service sorted it out after 5 calls and 1 hour and 45 minutes. They didn't seem to know what had happened. I spoke to my doctors office today, they told me Mountain Health Coop has really gone down hill in 2026. I will get rid of them as soon as open enrollment allows me to. It sound like I have dodged a bullet. I'm healthy so I have never had a significant claim with them. RUN AWAY! Wish there was a way to warn people enrolling on ACA. read more

Been calling for months, being tossed around by customer service reps who all give me different answers. Multiple times being told my provider was in-network, and multiple times being told I was out of network. Both me and my provider called providing reference numbers for the communication stating we were in network and the services should be covered. Nothing happened. We were led along to believe we were in network, so I continued pursuing services trusting it would be covered. My provider still received no reimbursement, so finally after weeks and weeks, demanded to speak to a supervisor, was given call back numbers... No call backs. Tried talking to a supervisor again, another 48 hour call back window. At this point I'd rather pay the $1500 I've accrued in sessions than deal with this company again. THEY HAVE NO INTEREST IN HELPING YOU. They will avoid helping you at all costs!!! Save yourself the time, stress, and money. Find a different insurance. read more

Absolutely the worst insurer to have when dealing with cancer! I had a double mastectomy in May and I am still dealing with getting some of my medical bills paid. I have talked with a supervisor who never called me back. I have three tickets in their system, but I'm getting zero results on their end. For the most part, their customer service representatives are cold with no compassion for what you are going through as a cancer patient. I've been waiting for them to reconcile a charge I paid in June that they agree is a part of my deductible, but have not listed, resulting in three other bills they should have paid being sent to collections. read more

Do not sign up for ANY of their "Rocky Mountain" policies. Their $1500 deductible is ONLY for medical procedures and DME, not any office visits. I say I have to meet TWO deductibles, but they tell me there's only one.....NO! I've had my new CPAP provider tell me they are in network with my plan, but MHC says they are not. I've had my PT listed as out of network because only ONE therapist (not mine) from Lone Peak PT is contracted with MHC even though Lone Peak is IN network. Called to see if my home sleep study had to be prior authorized, they said "Nope!". Unfortunately, I didn't specifically ask if they were in network, they weren't. They're still trying to figure out what my options would be in Billings, MT. That was over a month ago. I went to my Ortho and had my knee injected, now they're saying THAT needed prior authorization. I had to wait 3 weeks for authorization for an MRI. No matter how hard you try to color inside the lines with this company, you can't. I terminated coverage with them at the end of 2025 only to come back from vacation to find my pharmacy had cleared prescriptions through my NEW MHC policy. Their new website is HORREDOUS. You can't get reports showing what charges have gone to what accumulator. They used to be really good. Use them at your own risk. May the odds be ever in your favor. read more

I was a member of Mountain Health coop years ago and had a good experience with them. We had another insurance and went back to Mountain Health co=op when we were no longer eligible for them. Their customer service has tanked. Getting anything done is nearly impossible. They don't know what they are doing anymore and billing is also a disaster. AVOID!!! While their plans are affordable, you get what you pay for. Actually, you hardly even get that. At the end of last year they had a change in administration and ever since their service has single handedly been one of the greatest stressors of my year. There have been months where I'm on the phone with them multiple times a week because they decided to deny the care I was previously receiving. Every, and I mean EVERY phone call, after I sat through 30 minutes to hours of automated messages and dropped calls, the attendant would rudely tell me that there was nothing I could do or they would tell me that they'll look into it and call me back tomorrow. Want to know how many calls I ever got from them? None. So I would have to call back and sit through hours of automation just to hear the same messages. For your own mental health, STAY AWAY!! After having a plethora of insurance issues last year, I did my due diligence of calling insurance companies to make sure they covered what I needed this year. When I called Mountain Health Coop they informed me that I was covered and it would be a $10 co-pay for my provider. I signed up for the plan. After seeing my provider twice, I find out that they are NOT covering my provider. I called many times and frustratingly had to explain my situation to a new agent every single time because they would not connect me with a manager as requested immediately in every call. They finally escalated my issues to a supervisor, who called me at the exact time I was starting work, and did not leave a message. So I again had to call an agent and spent 2 hours on the phone explaining my situation over and over to a person who kept giving me the same information that was not pertinent to my situation. My frustration grew with every single call to these absolutely incapable people. They were trying to tell me that even though one of their staff members misquoted me, they needed proof of the call and wanted me to give them the name of the person and a reference number. The original person I spoke to before signing up never gave me either and how am I supposed to know to ask for a reference number on a call if you don't tell me that even exists??? They again escalated the issue to a supervisor. I gave them exact hours I could take a call. Planned my days around it so I could get to the bottom of the issue. After a few days, I finally got to speak to Jennifer. She told me that they could not find the call recording of my misquote despite giving them an exact day, time, and length of the call. Quite convenient for a company that is in the wrong. I argued with Jennifer about this until she finally tells me that it doesn't matter whether they found the call or not, the result is the same, they are not going to cover my provider and I need to find a different provider in my network. This provider is very specific to my needs and is one of the only in my area that even offers it. I tell them this is not okay. I demand they pay the $270 they should have covered and I'll cancel the plan and pay out of pocket the rest of the year. Jennifer again refuses. At this point, I went off on her. Letting out all my frustration with shitty insurance companies, and I do not regret or feel bad about it. Jennifer, you deserved that for playing me and lying to me about the situation from the beginning. If you don't like getting yelled at, be a better person. Do yourself a huge favor and NEVER sign up with these people. Now I'm ineligible to sign up for a new plan and they screwed me over for another year. Spoke with Christine about coverage , who is management . After two denied appeals , Christine states this insurance is not available to Nurses in California and their are no covered hospitals. Then why do you offer insurance and make money off of nurses? Secondly , my bill is not covered due to a medical diagnosis that is not active Covid but my doctor clearly states Covid pneumonia that is two weeks acutely active. Christine states I need to call the hospital because she does not have the ability in a non network hospital. This is unacceptable and a scam. The doctor that is covered is affiliated with the hospital. I don't complain , but this injustice only further supplies a nursing shortage. It is a moral issue. I have had Mountain Health Co-Op since January and have been paying for it on their website with no problem. My wife had a procedure done in July. Soon after we found that Mountain Health Co-op wasn't covering any of her bills. When I inquired as to why, they told me that the payments that I made online didn't go through and they were cancelling our service as of April. Nothing previous to this was communicated to me. Every time I submitted a payment online it simply said, "Thank You". I then got a check back for what I had paid. After hours on the phone with person after person, they finally told us that they weren't able to help and we were no longer eligible for their insurance. read more

Today I tried to get help from Mountain Health CO-OP to resolve a claims issue. After initially covering my prescription drug, the pharmacy told me today that my insurance (Mountain Health) required pre-authorization for coverage. Did they tell me about this requirement? No. Was I notified formally or informally? No. Now I am out of medication, no one was able to help me and I'm paying $200 out of pocket for something that is covered. As a matter of fact, I actually received a congratulatory letter from Mountain Health indicating my medication was covered! Woo-hoo! To be honest, their statement of coverage was no surprise to me as I had done my research and confirmed that my required medication was on their covered prescription list prior to my enrollment. When I called Mountain Health to resolve my above concerns, I reached automated messages telling me that everyone was in a staff meeting and there was no one to take my call. Remember the VA stories about everyone on staff being in a meeting and leaving patients unattended? Yeah, just like that. Maybe not as serious, but the principle stands. Horrible business practice. After at least 5 unsuccessful calls and at least 7 transfers, complete with multiple, unexplained hang-ups, I received no intelligent help to resolve my issue by anyone I was graced with the horrid privilege of speaking with. I was told that I must first take a cheaper medication that I had already tried in order to qualify for my current medication of 7 years. I told them I already did this, 7 years ago, and went through the whole process of drug qualification. Mountain Health said it didn't matter. They even called my doctor for patient history, which was provided, and flagrantly disregarded my doctor's medical opinion! I must now jeopardize my health and well being just to qualify a checkbox on some form required by their Neanderthalistic policies; or take no medication at all and further threaten my health. The purpose of my post here today is to explain the exceptionally inept handling of my needs by Mountain Health as a medical patient, paying subscriber and one who comes to them with pre-existing medical conditions. If you are seeking a new insurance provider, or Affordable Care Act (ACA) compliant insurance provider, my recommendation is to look elsewhere. Additionally, if you are a patient entering into their plan with a pre-existing conditions, expect to have your previously established needs denied outright; a total disrespect for the current laws enacted as part of the ACA. Their premiums may advertise lower than the competition, but my personal experience lends me to believe that you ultimately get what you pay for. Bottom line, don't do it. Go with a reputable provider, one that you've actually heard of before. Hopefully these cretins at Mountain Health can get a clue, but my optimism is limited to nonexistent. Hannah M. I had a terrible time getting approved for necessary medication. Before having change providers, I was on a medication for 3 yrs with good results. It was turned down. They denied coverage for the next drug I was prescribed. They offered me an alternative which would cost $200.00+/month. The reason: my labs ( with medication) were too good. I have not had medication for three months. Perhaps, if I make it to my next lab results, (only covered every 3 months), and they are bad, which they will be, I will be given something affordable and helpful, i.e., my original drug. read more

This company is the most incompetent, unprofessional, screwed up company, of any kind, I have ever dealt with. Even writing a letter to the President of Aetna Insurance, their parent company, failed to resolve a single issue I have had with them. I am very unhappy with the access to doctors through Mountain Health. I expected that, since I was paying for the most expensive policy, I would receive the most care and access to a large number of providers. That, sadly, has not been the case. Every single provider I wanted to see has attempted to become part of Mountain Health and been denied. I prefer an integrative approach to medical care and that apparently is not acceptable with this company. Even a very large and well known trauma counseling clinic in the area was not part of the network and I ended up getting stuck with a very large bill! If I am paying a very high premium, I expect to get great service. I will not be signing up with Mountain Health again. I am very disappointed in the sorry state of healthcare in one of the most advanced countries in the world. This is shameful. They started off by lying and telling me that they needed $500.00 in January due to non payment from the Affordable Care Act Program. How am I responsible for their payment towards the policy? When I would not send them the $500.00. I kept calling back in the billing department until I found an honest person to inform me that they had in fact received the payment and to ignore the statement asking me to pay MHCO $500.00. He also confirmed that I had made my premium payments every month for the duration of my policy and that I had a refund due to me because I had over paid. Different than what their statements showed. Their statements never reflected the amount of credit that I had in reserve. It always showed something different than what I had recorded. How hard is it to subtract $13.51 from A flat rate payment of $20.00? Then to add misery to my life, they shut off my benefits without any notification. No notice. No letter. I went to get my mush needed medications and the pharmacy tech informed me that I had been terminated as of 12/31/2015. Wait a minute, They paid all my medical bills in January 2016. They paid for my prescriptions in January 2016. I got letters from them saying that my application was approved and I was given a new insurance card. How could my benefits be terminated as of 12/31/2015? It didn't make sense. Then I remembered that I had gotten in a fight with the Claims Department over a much needed surgery that my Specialist had ordered and strongly suggested that I get it done or suffer with a stroke, heart attack, or kidney failure. I questioned the Claims Department about what I was told by the Gastric Surgeon's office. That patients would get preauthorization, jump through hoops to comply with the insurance company, go through with the procedure, only to be have their surgery bill of $30,000 denied by the Claims department. I informed them that they were violating our rights to proper medical treatment and that I was going to research to see if this was permitted under the new medical reform laws. Now the terminated policy made sense. I had made my February, March, and April payments as instructed and all my payments were returned by the billing department of MHCO. Medications were still not covered. Family members were pitching in to help pay for my meds. My sons and daughter in law were taking out pay day loans to help me get my meds. Meanwhile, I'm racking up medical bills at the Hospital's Clinic to the tune of $6 to $8,000. and these bills are being turned over to the collection agency. Your Health Idaho gets involved, and claims that I qualify for the program, MHCO is telling them that I'm not making the payments. So I scanned all the returned payments along with their letters stating that my policy had been terminated as of 12/31/2016. I scanned all the pharmacy notes stating that MHCO never re-opened my file, and that it still showed that the benefits were being denied. I scanned and showed them all the medical bills that were going unpaid including the much needed C-Pap machine that was at one time being covered by MHCO. Finally, Your Health Co Op realized that I wasn't lying, and that there was a major error in the way my file was being handled. But it took us 6, count them 6 months to get this resolved. Now who is going to fight to help me get my money reimbursed so that I can re-pay my family members? Who's going to write all those letters and have the collection agencies notified that the bills that MHCO did not pay will eventually be paid and that they need to remove the negative marks from my credit reports. Who's going to give me back my dignity from being humiliated in front of my family, the doctors, and the pharmacy staff; month after month, after month. The sleepless nights, throwing up for weeks due to the stress, not being able to get through a day without feeling sick to my stomach from thinking about the Insurance company denying me medical treatment that I know I am now allowed to have? Who's going to take away my fear of dying in the middle of the night or the pain I had to suffer when I did not have my medication? And what lies are they going to tell the Insurance Commission when this is investigated? Will they lie to them like they did Your Health Idaho.gov? I want them investigated immediately. And if they can't process the Idaho payments quickly, they need to hire some of these under paid citizens in our community and open a payment processing center right here in Idaho so that these lingering issues won't continue. And how does a Physicians Assistant's decision to deny surgery trumps a Neurologist, Specialist and one of the top Brain Specialist in the area? How does this happen, and why is the Medical Review Board allowing them to get away with this? I need someones help and as soon as possible.
