We have attended both a wedding and celebration of life at the Mountain House Estate. The team went above and beyond to ensure everything the was perfect. The property is stunning in any weather. Both events were about 120 people and while the wedding was outdoors with a huge dance floor, stage and lovely getting ready facilities, our celebration of life had rainy weather and was still spacious enough inside for theater seating as well as some eating tables. The catering was also top-notch, with spacious bathrooms, plenty of parking and a gorgeous pond with a fountain - what more can you ask for? Cons: the road to get there is quite windy with sharp turns for about 13 mins. read more

This review is overdue but very important to us. My husband, Austin and I were married at the Mountain House Estate this past June. It was a magical day and we are so happy we chose to celebrate with our family and friends at MHE. From the start of our planning journey in 2019, John and Lane were incredibly supportive and communicative about everything that planning a wedding entails. They provided us with vendor lists that helped us connect with our wonderful planner, Lacey, as well as the rest of our vendors who made the day so memorable. These past 2 years have not been easy (for anyone!) and due to COVID we were not sure if we would be able to have the wedding we envisioned. John and Lane kept us up to date with everything going on in Mendocino and Sonoma county. They took the time to talk with us on the phone multiple occasions and answer all our concerns. Although it was a time of uncertainty, we felt comfortable moving forward and knew without a doubt they were doing everything they could for us and the rest of their clients. The MHE is stunning and will forever be a special place to us. The care and love that John and Lane put into the property is clear to see! Many of our guests raved about the property and how warm and beautiful it felt. We were married under the Oak trees, which felt magical. When it came to the day of, my bridesmaids and I were able to enjoy the property for the full day (the bridal and groom suites are a real treat!). We also didn't want our dancing to be cut short and MHE allows guests the option to stay until midnight. The flow of our wedding felt easy and many guests expressed how relaxed and comfortable it was. The location is close to Healdsburg where our guests stayed, but just far enough that we felt away and in our own unique space. If you are looking to have your wedding in the Sonoma/Mendocino area, I highly recommend contacting John and Lane and visiting the MHE. We're forever grateful we found them. read more

Growing up I had seen the Mountain House Estate property every time we drove out Hwy 128 on our way to Mendocino from Cloverdale, and it had always been a dream of mine to get married there. I still can't believe we were able to have our wedding there, and it was an absolute dream come true - everything I had ever hoped for. The property is breathtaking, and there are several perfect old time country props/backdrops on the grounds, set up for wedding party photos. At the main house, the outdoor patio with market lights and beautiful landscaping was magical as the sun went down, and the lake out front with the fountain was the perfect place for my husband and I to have our 'first look' at each other, and do some photos before the wedding. There were a few places we had the option to have the ceremony, and we chose to have our wedding up on the hill at the Oak Terrace. It was unbelievably beautiful with a large oak tree at the top entrance of the terrace, and a lovely large moss covered oak waiting at the stage area as our backdrop. The view across the valley and hills and the sunlight coming through the oak tree branches around us was my favorite. There was plenty of seating so our guests had a lot of space for social distancing while they watched our ceremony. We had a few family members that had trouble with stairs, but were happy to find that there was a flat path on one side of the terrace, and it was easy for them to walk to their seats that way. The hill up to the terrace and garden was pretty steep for walking, but our remedy was to have a van shuttle guests up and back, with the help of some our friends, and I had the honor of being chauffeured to the ceremony in a friend's restored 1936 Packard. There was plenty of room to drive up and turn around, and our guests really appreciated the convenience. We were also able to livestream our ceremony, for friends and family that couldn't attend, with the WIFI up on the terrace. The vegetable garden and small garden shed beside the terrace was picturesque and peaceful, with the trees blooming and the new plants growing in the boxes. The property is very well taken care of, clean and elegant. It was also wonderful to have the option for outdoor music both at the terrace and down at the house and yard. We weren't able to use a few of the special things that the venue offered due to COVID restrictions, but we were happy to just be able to use the grounds outside for our small wedding. The inside ballroom and bar were lovely, with many windows to view the landscape, patio, and lake from anywhere inside, and the rooms for bridal party to get ready were large and beautifully decorated as well. I definitely felt that any need a bride or groom might have there would be well taken care of. John and Lane were wonderful to work with, they let us know all the options we had at our first meeting, and showed us around the property at our pace. Even during times of COVID restrictions, and having to follow all the extra rules, they helped us to make our day so special and elegant. I highly recommend this venue for a wedding or party of any kind, and I hope to come back to Mountain House Estate for many future events. read more

Mountain House was such a beautiful venue! we had the ceremony up under the tree and it was so so beautiful! The venue does have a lot of rules and particulars, but you can tell it's because they want you to have the very best night. Lane checked in a lot during the process which was very nice to nail down the specifics. They also provided a list of vendors that they love to work with and Lane gave a specific name for a wedding planner who we ended up going with and LOVED. we truly had an amazing night and they were very easy to work with even when last minute it rained and caused moving the food inside. Our drive up was good no traffic no idiots. The road up was windy so don't pull over like we did for some Macdonalds, you'll be sorry. Anyways 5 minutes into the drive, the road starts to get narrow and you begin to wonder if your going the right way. Signs are posted well in advance so you can't miss it. We pull up and Lane is there to greet us...WOW...WOW...WOW! At this point I'm not even out of my car yet. This place is huge I'm in awe; already picturing my day and that's a good sign! Lane leads us into the ballroom where I'm blown away with how the place is designed. The wood panel and finishes are done by her husband John. I stand in the room fighting back tears cause again I start to picture my big day. Lane sat us down to get to know us better. We had a very nice chat, Lane was very informative no sugar coating she gave us the whole low down. I now know what to expect. We began touring and each location was breathtaking I mean it! My head was spinning from all the beautiful sites Lane took us too. There were so many locations to have your ceremony and reception. Finally it was time to visit the Oak Tree Terrace...this location is what made me look into the venue in the first place. We walked up to the terrace only to yet again be blown away! Seeing my fiancé standing at the bottom of the threshold brought me to tears and at that moment...I knew this is where I'm getting married at! This venue ran out of water?? They cannot handle large events over maybe 50 people. The directions to get to this venue are extremely confusing and all of our party got lost on the way. Their A/C broke multiple times, the food went bad, and the bar was in a space NOT made for crowds. It is also NOT ada accessible. The venue was barely usable for our family, and we would have been better off using literally anywhere else!!! AVOID ENTIRELY read more

We got married on 11.11.18 at Mountain House Estate at the Oak Tree Terrace. I have to admit that John and Lane have maintained the place extremely well. They have multiple spots where a couple could have ceremony. There is outdoor and indoor space available for reception as well. Lane pretty much answered all our questions right away. She is very hardworking. Some guests in wedding already started talking with Lane & John to plan their wedding at the same place :D If you are looking for a outdoor space to get married, I highly recommend this place! Get all the requirements run through Lane so that there are no surprises later on. Our caterers ran out of linens, and Lane jumped right in to help us. I got married at Mountain House on 9/9/17 and my overall experience was exceptional! John and Lane are both very kind and sincere individuals, and the property is beyond stunning -- with multiple options for personalization. We opted to have our ceremony at the Oak Tree Terrace (I highly recommend) and our reception on the patio. I was delighted with how nice the property was kept, and how many things were included in our venue fee (i.e. tables, bistro lighting, bridal and groom suite, etc.). John and Lane answered every single ridiculous question I had, and allowed me to come back to the venue several times prior to the wedding. It is a beautiful property and I am so happy we chose to get married there. The only issue I had with the experience was that since it is a newer venue, many things were not explained to us until AFTER we placed our deposit (finding out we couldn't use the croquet set we purchased, couldn't throw bio-degradable confetti that was purchased, couldn't have individual chocolates for s'mores, etc.) it wasn't a deal breaker but it was upsetting when you have a vision in mind and would have been nice to know before signing a contract and paying a deposit. Overall it was wonderful and I would choose to have my wedding here again in a heartbeat. read more

Mountain House Estate is one of the most beautiful and accommodating venues I had the chance to work with. It's a hidden gem in the hills of Alexander Valley and Sonoma County. They have both bridal and groom suites that made it very convenient for me as a photographer to go from one place to the other and be able to capture both bride and groom getting ready. They have few different location inside the venue for ceremony and reception you can choose from. I was lucky to shoot the ceremony under the big oak tree. It had very enchanted feeling to it. Great place for brides who like outdoor and rustic ranch kind of atmosphere for their Big Day. There are a lot of historic elements, which are great for photography as well as open fields, veggie garden and orchards. Lots and lots of potentials and great lighting for afternoon /evening photography. Especially, around sunset time. You will not be disappointed. And John, the owner of the property is a wonderful man. He is one of those people who would make sure you are having the best day of your life. Definitely recommend it if you are planning an outdoor wedding in the wine country away from the hustle and bustle of the city. read more

From a videographer's perspective: The place is well organized, spotlessly clean, and the management is superb. John and Lane are awesome to work with. They are flexible, thoughtful, and obviously passionate about what they do! I would definitely recommend this venue to couples in the area. It is a beautiful backdrop for filming a love story. Lane and John were fantastic hosts for our August 2017 wedding. Their venue was the first we toured and we instantly fell in love. We liked the charm, flexibility, and sheer beauty of the venue. We had our pick of ceremony and reception locations with the ability to move said plans due to rain or extreme heat (luckily neither were necessary, we had perfect weather!). They were quick to respond and very accommodating while we made our arrangements. Our families and guest were similarly taken with the venue and location! We immediately fell in love with this property when we visited, John and Lane are probably the most professional and friendly people I've had the pleasure of working with. They're communication is unmatched, every time we needed to talk to them they would respond within minutes. When the pandemic broke out and we were forced to postpone our wedding they were very accommodating. Not only that but they took the time to get to know us and we felt more like family friends than "just another client" the property and all the features are spectacular, it was so convenient to have a place to get ready, have the ceremony and the reception all in one place. They really anticipate every need even before you think of it, weather/equipment/whatever the case may be. The day of our (outdoor) wedding ended up being very chilly and before we even asked John was out there rolling out the outdoor heaters and making sure they had enough fuel. I absolutely love this venue John and Lane take the time to make sure the venue is the best it can be for any potential client They offer a great amount of locations to choose from when it comes to the ceremony and dining Oak tree terrace is one of my favorite locations because of the beautiful Oak Tree that is in the backdrop. At the Estate the amazing pond in the front is such an amazing site for photos and gives the feeling of peace and serenity The back patio has plenty of seating and plenty of room for the dance floor The Oasis Room upstairs is breathe taking and is so spacious for the wedding party to get ready There is also another location to get ready on the property with a balcony for the other half of the wedding party They allow you to have up to a 7 hour event on the property which is better then most venues in the area with their package as well as the option to stay later. The bar is breathe taking with an amazing resin finish on the bar tops. Such a beautiful vibrant wood, oak but I might be mistaken. For lighting they have Edison lights wrapped around a beautiful wooden beam John and Lane take pride in the venue and go above and beyond to make sure that every detail is taken care of and nothing is overlooked. My son and daughter-in-law got married at Mountain House on July 5th and everything was perfect. We had so many comments on what a beautiful venue this was. Everything is so well maintained and the layout is wonderful so that guests can just flow from one area to another. When we started our journey to find the perfect reception venue for our 1 year anniversary, this was the first place we visited & I fell in love immediately. I didn't want to jump the gun though, so I reluctantly visited a few other venues, but compared them all to Mountain House Estate. This venue is absolutely picture perfect - it's breathtaking. You have the option to have your event indoors, outdoors or both, as we did. The wedding suite is jaw dropping. There are 2 bedrooms in the main house that you can rent, as well as a newly renovated grooms room in a separate house that sleeps quite a few! The owners, Lane & John, are amazing to work with. They make you feel like family & help in any way they can. They are very flexible & thoughtful. They have a long list of local vendors which comes in handy if you're not from the area.
