This place is awesome! Large selection and very reasonable prices. Multiple people have commented on the customer service (or lack thereof), but we found everyone friendly enough. Maybe this "issue" is about expectations....when we went in the store it was busy, some of the stuff was in disarray, and the store was a bit cramped--but we came to get deals!! Not pay a premium for service and spaciousness! We got brand name clothes in great condition for our kids at pretty unbelievable prices. In the Bay Area, where we are from, you can't find anything comparable to this--we will definitely be back. read more

We can from The Bay Area and our kids got their boots soaked from the snow. Mom fail for not packing extra shoes. We stopped here and they had used boots and new socks which were perfect because we didn't want to buy them new ones. Which they also had. Total bargain. read more

This was great. I needed some clothes for my son. We live in SD so winter clothes are not our jam. Didn't want to spend a fortune when we were only in Tahoe for a few days. JACKPOT! 20 mins later he was outfitted in all the appropriate winter clothes without breaking the bank. If back this will also be a spot we hit up. read more

We just popped in on a whim. We were up from San Francisco two weeks prior and Weather was warm. This time it's in the 40s. We needed warmer jackets in a hurry. With a family of 3 young ones, we've learned the lesson that spending full retail prices for can be wasteful since growth spurts are unpredictable. The selection was great. We bought Marmots and Spyder jackets, fire engine hats for play time and blundstone boots for really cheap! The clothes were lightly used. When we went to pay the woman at the counter was so friendly. We chatted for a bit even when she had a fussy teething child and she let our daughter use the bathroom which is awesome since she is in the middle of potty training. I come here often looking for clothes for my kids. They have a wide selection of sizes, also a great go to for snow gear, ice skates, soccer shoes, etc. They have consignment clothes as well as new clothes. I come here for baby shower gifts too! And you gotta love the 50% off bin every month. read more

Zero stars. Not even a 1 star for the interior. Complete chaos and lack of organization. I attempted to donate kids clothing as well as some kids helmets. Good condition. Upon entering this store, I wasn't greeted. I made my way to the counter and 2 girls were busy chatting in the back. One noticed me and said "can I help you? " Rudely. As I'm standing there with 2 bags... isn't it obvious? Well if not, nicely asking would have been nice. I obviously hadn't been in to drop off stuff before and was going to inquire about the process. I informed them that I was here to drop off some things. She looked at me puzzled. . . And said We Do Not Accept things after the first 2 weeks of the months. I went yesterday... which was the 17th. My bad 2 days late. . . Is that worth the condescending attitude I received as if I was supposed to know this? How would I know unless told... As Your website home page states drop offs: TUESDAY - SATURDAY until full. Hmmm.... it was a Wednesday after all. I said OH! I was told to just bring them by... She cut me off and snapped, WHO TOLD YOU THAT??? I said numerous parents from around town. She snarked, OH and looked at her buddy who was peeking out from the back. I stood there confused as if I was in the wrong... wrong place maybe? I mean I had used kids clothing and isn't this a used kids clothing store? If You Weren't Accepting, All You Had To Do Was Let Me Know Nicely AND Respect The Fact I Was Your Customer. I turned to leave as I no longer felt welcome, and as we got near the door the girls snidely laughed at me. What was there to laugh at besides how unorderly the store and employees were? Good work girls, talk smack as the customer, who was trying to support your store, is leaving. After much thought I decided I will never support this store and go ahead and share my experience at this local business. To the pleasant girls who think their job of standing around folding kids clothes and helping customers is hard - Take a shower and do your job... it's called customer service when you work at a business that services people and help customers. I've been coming here since high school. I moved away years ago and have never found a store quite like it. I've never been able to go to a store and find my sizes and style like this. Went to Mountain Kids during the dead of winter looking for kid's swim trunks. The staff went out of their way to help and spent considerable time looking through their out of season items to find just what we needed. Super helpful and a great selection, at a great price! read more

I wanted so much to like and support a local kids consignment store; however, this store just makes it impossible. I have come in several times during the past two years. So, I feel I've given them ample time to work through a bad apple employee or someone just having a bad day. Every time I have gone in, I am completely ignored. When I ask for any help (even just to pay for something!), it is as if I am a thorn in the side of the person working, and they'd rather people just didn't come in to shop. I have found employees to be cold and even flat out rude and just not want to be there except to sit in the back and chat with coworkers. I have observed this behavior towards others in the store as well. The store is organized so/so, could be cleaner and prices are very hit or miss. I just don't get it. If you hate what you do so much, find something else to do. Such a shame. read more

They have a decent selection for kids, especially for winter/summer sports. But BEWARE - all of their consignment items are final sale and they are completely inflexible about that policy. When visiting from out of town, I bought 2 pairs of shoes for my son (who wasn't shopping with me). They ended up being too small, and when I returned the next morning, with the shoes unworn with tags still on, they refused to take them back, even when I offered to exchange them for a pair 1/2 the price of the two I had bought. They would have made another $15 off of me! Such inflexibility left a bad taste in my mouth, and we will not be back. I suggest a 24 hour, tags still on, exchange policy to be a little kinder to their customers. read more

Every time I come in this store. I want to have a good experience but every time they fall short. The customer service is terrible. No one greets you no one talks to you at all. I don't usually find anything to fit my son either. He must be a popular size, I tried asking once if they had more items that were not out yet they wouldn't even answer my question. It's a shame I now travel to reno to some very nice kids thrift stores that have great customer service. I want to shop locally but with bad customer service I will not come back. read more

We had a wonderful experience in this somewhat crowded but well organized store with our two small children who were literally trying to pull everything off of the shelves. A very nice woman greeted us and offered to help us find exactly what we were looking for (snow boots and parkas for each kid) which we found within 2-3 minutes. They had a very nice selection of new toys so we found a couple of Christmas presents for the kids and bought those as well. I think we were in the store for maybe 10 minutes and left having found everything we wanted and more. I'd definitely recommend Mountain Kids to anyone looking for gently used clothing/shoes or fun new toys for their kids! read more

I would give five stars but it is REALLY inconvenient to shop at a "kids" store with your kids and NO PUBLIC BATHROOMS. A real bummer and a deterrent to shop there... I shop here all the time and can usually find what I'm looking for, cause it's something I need right away and cannot get to Reno, I would rather shop local. I have attempted to donate some stuff that I feel is really nice, barely used, name brand, and most importantly relevant clothing and they never take it. I've spent time going through clothes making sure they are clean, not stained and organized by outfit. The stuff they sell is mediocre at best and I would consider more than gently used and actually pretty crappy most of the time, the prices are not particularly affordable either when you can actually go and buy most of the stuff new. read more
