Fourth of July weekend we decided to head up to the cabin for some cooler weather. One important…read morestop before we head to the cabin was a quick visit to James store. Kernville was wall-to-wall people everyone enjoying the Mountains, sunshine, Kern, river, and America's 250th birthday. James store was busy as might be expected on the big holiday weekend. I headed to the meat department too many choices. I decided on 2 habanero and 2 black pepper chicken kebabs to barbecue and a 6 pack of carnation drumsticks for dessert. The store looked great decorated and fully stocked they were ready for 4 July holiday. Shelly my cashier was super, all check stands were open very little waiting. Our barbecued kebabs Saturday night were delicious seasoned perfect and the marinade just right. The drumsticks hit the spot as well. Happy birthday America

After I explained to her at the time of purchase this was not communicated she stated how they are not required to inform customers. She then emphasized how it is a red tag items which means no refunds. Once again I explained how I was not aware of this as it was not communicated. She continued to stated how it's not required to inform customers about this. All I was asking for was an exchange for a different size. Instead they tried forcing me to purchase the exact same bathing suit in a different t size. I have been a customer here on family vacation for 25 years. After this moment I will not support this business. I will be contacting the owner as she stated. Simple communication could have cleared this up from the beginning, and the managers approached has improvement for customer service skills.

I have been shopping here 24 years even through the strike, I didn't go to Isabella market. until today it was FIVE STARS. I will still get what I need, just a whole lot less. I've delt with some of the older employees, not so much the woman but the old gentleman. They don't respond when you tell them about a product that might of been open. I this the white guy named Brian in produce has said some racial comments, Peter, the slim guy with the feather for an earring and long hair has talked bad about customers in front of other customers as they're checking out. I'll do my best to stay out of this place. DUG is probably the best thing about this store, the employee, younger peeps, are nice. I don't get no attitude, no matter how busy DUG is. You guys are the best. Can't say much for the employees inside. The deli moves slow and sometimes seem like they don't want to be there. Lisa is nice, Lori has been helpful. We all have our days but man.. it's customer service.

TRI TIP!!! We stayed across the street at the Sequoia Lodge, and in the morning you can see them start the smoker and that sweet smell... Their little restaurant is phenomenal. The various hot sauces are a great touch, but the service and smiles that come with it are the cherry on top. Bodfish!…read more Bodfish??? What the hell is a "Bodfish"? Well folks, turns out it's a "census-designated place" (not even a town, how about that!!) near Lake Isabella with a population of just 1956, as of the 2010 Census. If you're still lost, it's approximately 32 miles (That's ALL it was?) east-northeast of Bakersfield, up in the mountains. Now I'm sure you are asking "what were you doing there?" Yes I was wondering the same thing. LOL I went to look at (and buy) a vintage washing machine and this is where it was... out in the boonies! After I got it loaded and started heading back toward civilization, I see this little local market and decided to stop and grab some munchies for the 3.5 hour drive to San Luis Obisbo. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/country-korner-market-bodfish-2?userid=Jcbj338NjXtSiqvK3LYghQ#gM9a7g9RBgYClfXnUmMb_w I walk in and the guy behind the counter smiles and greets me. I look around and grab a Nemo's Banana cake (haven't had one in years, YUM), some peanut M&M's and a bag of Cheetos puffs. The guy rings me up, I pay and I'm on my way out the door. It's a cute little store and has what you'd expect from a korner market in a little, out of the way place like Bodfish..... snacks, nibbles, munchies, sodas, beer, wine and what-not. http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/country-korner-market-bodfish-2?userid=Jcbj338NjXtSiqvK3LYghQ#MVQXY3c6rnp3g-29J_QEwQ It was a nice little store, I'm glad I stopped!

As she is in her 80s, the long distance trips are fewer and more far between, so the mere fact that this place is within close proximity of her home gives me peace of mind. You can find all of the basics here. Firewood, smokes, cold drinks, basic groceries, toiletries and other general merchandise - if you can think of it, the Country Store probably carries it. Service has always been friendly from what I can recall. There is always a smiling face behind the counter, and the staff are normally good for quick conversation. I've always been treated like family here. It's a nice feeling. The store is smack dab in the middle of a very small, rural town. You likely won't come across it unless you are intentionally in Squaw Valley. If you are here though, you can't go wrong.
