My mom did a small move from a house to an assisted living facility so there were only 6 pieces of furniture that were moved. Mountain Moving helped move me from Tacoma to Spokane, and did a FANTASTIC job. Doug was excellent and helped me get everything prepped. Phil, in particular, was incredibly organized, dependable and efficient. I have moved 13 (!!!) times and this was by far the best experience I have had. They took apart a challenging piece of (Ikea obviously) furniture, and when some screws were left behind, they found them, and overnighted them immediately with notes. Mountain Moving came highly recommended by someone who has referred them several times with positive outcomes. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. For reference, our moving distance was less than one mile. Setting aside some confusion and miscommunication with scheduling, our actual moving experience was quite poor. The team acted unprofessionally at times, complaining about our stairs and asking condescendingly if we had ever hired movers before. (Not our first time.) They left several pieces of furniture unassembled, and now we cannot find the hardware for some of those pieces. They put our stroller wheels down on an unwrapped fabric covered chair and stacked items on an unwrapped white couch, which is now dirty. Worst of all, they damaged several pieces of furniture, scraping paint off of our walls and denting the wood irreparably. One piece of furniture was destroyed. Moving damage is not an inevitability; another company we used to complete the move did so while protecting our remaining items. I am thoroughly disappointed with our experience and the state of our furniture, which would take thousands of dollars to replace. We're now going through the claims process (outcome pending) but unfortunately that cannot fix what has been damaged. I wish there were different categories to rate instead of just overall. First let me say that the folks that came and packed and actually moved us were great. We had no breakage, found everything when we unpacked and they were pleasant and followed all the COVID rules. However, communication with the office staff is worse than awful. My husband tried to call several times prior to our move and it was like pulling teeth to get people to respond in a timely manner. After our move we were trying to find things and several times I called, spoke to an individual in the office who said, let me check and call you back. Neither time did I ever hear back from her. In my book that is unforgivable. We've used this company several times and the actual movers are wonderful, the office staff not so much and that totally downgrades the service. read more

NEGATIVE STARS! This company will screw you last minute. Just last week we had the most horrible experience with this company. Weeks prior we had Doug out to do our bid. He seemed nice and price was good, so we booked. I believe it was $320 per hour for 4 guys, two trucks. Our closing date changed so I spoke with Doug on the phone to change the date. He confirmed with me the correct date of our new move. The day before our move I called to confirm everything and they didn't have us on the schedule at all. We were literally hours away from our move now with no movers. Doug had booked us for the incorrect week despite having confirmed with him verbally multiple times of our date. Ed in dispatch tried to help but they had no availability for us. This was truly a nightmare. So hours before a huge move I had to desperately call around other companies to see if anyone could help. Thankfully after many panicked calls I was able to find another company to help us. Never received a call from Doug to apologize or explain what happened. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We chose Mountain Movers from the reviews and customer service from Doug who actually communicated with us in a timely manner and gave us a competitive estimate for moving. The crew of three showed up on time, the lead seemed to be training the other two on how to handle and carry furniture along with doing a lot of the heavy lifting himself who happened to be much older. My main complaint is their customer service from the office. The person in the office never once tried to call me back. We discovered damage to our dining table the next day, took pictures and called the company only to get a recording saying she was away from her desk or on another call and would return my call. Never called back but after a second call sent an email with a form to fill out with no explanation. After finally submitting and waiting 3 weeks without hearing anything, I was able to talk to Doug who apparently took care of getting our claim processed. read more

I would give this company negative stars if I could...we are a military family that just moved to Germany and had mountain move us..we got our stuff and it's a NIGHTMARE! Nothing worse than waiting three months to get our stuff and it's destroyed...Items were missing including expensive necklaces and jewlery as well as my husbands most expensive items were destroyed due to them just not caring...priceless cultural jewlery and items DESTROYED or missing!!! Plus our nightstands just dragged and DAMAGED!!! What makes this worse is we went out and bought breakfast and water in them cause we know how hard it is to move just for our items to be thrown around like nothing!!! There was one guy who knew exactly what to do and was great but the other girl and guy did not know anything..and I'm pretty sure the girl closed the door to steal my items!!! Booked for a move of large furniture items only. When staff arrived they had been told that everything had been packed-which was NOT the case, nor was it ever stated to be so. One truck would have been more than enough for the move but two arrived. Staff preferred to pack rather than lift and load. Too many boxes were supplied and no credit could be given for them if returned unused. One staff team member shared that this was the second time that this had happened and that they were angry about their supervisor's (lack of) appropriate booking behavior. Lastly, the person who planned with me initially, told me that his workers knew how to disassemble an adjustable Sleep Number bed. However, it is now damaged from the move, dysfunctional and in need of repairs-if they can be done at all. I consider this fraud and not simply damage during a move. read more

We have now used this company three times. The first two times were fine, which was why we used them a third time. This third and final time was incredibly upsetting. It has now taken me over a year to feel like I could write a comprehensive review. First, the person who comes to create the estimate is a nice guy. But he is not the person who is there on your moving day. He does not wrap items, he does not carry the boxes, he has nothing to do with actually moving your possessions. He will tell you that the rate of movers is the same company-wide, so it won't matter who you use. But I'm here to tell you, there must be someone out there who will take better care of your possessions. This company leaves your possessions in the care of a team of incompetent people who could. not. care. less. It took two days to move the contents of my home. During that time, I watched the workers take their time moving, especially one who could not be bothered to put down his phone, and instead moved one framed picture at a time up and down the stairs while carrying his phone flat on the palm of his other hand. He texted all day long, barely getting anything done. And since he was the supervisor of the day, the other guys took their cue from him. Remember, you're paying by the hour. The company said they would make their workers wear masks. Since this was in the heart of Covid, it was incredibly important that they do this. However, one worker didn't even show up with a mask--so I gave him one. The next day no one wore them. Why should they--their supervisor said and did nothing, and neglected to wear one himself. The guys were tasked with wrapping our valuable items, such as musical instruments, larger artwork, and a very expensive computer screen. This they stuffed in one of their boxes, but neglected to put a tag on it or mark that they packed it. They put the computer screen on the top of other framed art without wrapping it at all. Then they proceeded to turn the box upside down and store it like that. The result? Broken computer screen. Broken Tiffany lamp. Broken picture frames on many items. And the company? They said they hadn't packed it, so it wasn't their fault. This was not true, but I had no proof. They lost an entire crate, and made us pay their hourly fee while most of the team sat waiting; two workers drove back to the warehouse to search while we waited. They finally found it, three hours later. After much complaining, they finally refunded a tiny amount of money--hardly what my items were worth, or the stress of the horrible days. I hope I don't have to move again, but if I do, it certainly won't be with this horribly uncaring company. My suggestions: Find a company that has a really good reputation. Take photos of them packing items if they do. Make sure those boxes are labeled and marked correctly. Make sure you can read the sheets they present for your signature--(no one could read the writing to find my items). read more

This is the first time we have ever hired a moving company to help with a move and we were exceedingly thankful! Was a smooth transition and was a huge amount of work for these 3 amazing men who took it in stride. They also came highly recommended from an affluent friend who said everyone in their neighborhood uses them. I was very sad to see that even though this hard working reasonably priced company has nine 5 star reviews out of 11 they rated over all a 3 which is truly incorrect. SAD that Yelp didn't publish the other overwhelming 5 star majority rather than the couple hard cases. We all have a Bad day friends, myself included. When calling for a out state move quote, the first thing I noticed is that they were not as efficient and or streamlined in their ability to give one. I was able to call several movers who have 5 star reviews and receive, what I deem a fair quote, within as little as 45 minutes (I have moved my fair share and know the general expectations). It seemed about right, and the estimating process was no short of amazing. All of my items for a basic three room home is all in boxes and packed. Should be quite easy with a few questions, such as, do you have any large items like pianos or huge heavy beds. What I got instead was every long reason why Mountain Movers could not give me a quote, unless I went online and filled out a detailed listing of each room. Even at that, the quote would be difficult due to weight fee charges, he said. Sure I guess I could take a "stab" at it. No violence please, just a generalized quote, thank you sir. Why even list your company as interstate if you are so adamant that it cant be done in fairness? When I realized that it was too much effort and even when I was done it would still be just a non accurate quote (as he put it), I decided to let him know as a consumer that his estimating approach and customer service was quite the work compared to others in this interstate estimating industry, he became arrogant. Stating his company is well enough without my business, that he was too busy for me and to go somewhere else. I ended the conversation with the point that I was doing him a favor by letting him know, and not to take it personal. It was clear that he was unable to help my interstate moving needs. Instead of receiving some constructive criticism that may be of future business value, decided to be prideful by insinuating that he was so well with his business making money, that treating every potential customer with value was not his concern. That is what reviews are for Mister, to let others know of business practices. Whether someone has purchased from you or not, you still have to be professional. We could not even make it through the estimate process, I would not recommend entrusting your out of state move with an old timer, who is too busy to care. read more

Great experiences with Mtn Moving. I have used them twice - once when they were assigned to my military move from WA to HI, and a second time when I chose them for a move from one point in Tacoma to another. I can't comment on pricing for the first move (paid for by military), but the second move's pricing was very fair. James (estimator) arrived as scheduled, provided a written estimate and tentatively scheduled a moving day. A 'what-to-expect on moving day' PDF was provided. He offered to provide boxes and packing materials, if needed. Movers (Todd, Tua, Fah) arrived on time on moving day. Walked thru, discussed basic plan and they got to work. Watched the guys move all items and they used standard equipment (carpeted dollies, pads, tie downs, etc). Everything was handled carefully and nothing was thrown or dropped. Load up time was less than estimated and very smooth. Unloading at the new house took even less time. All in all, an excellent experience. Simply put, the service provided was the service promised. I think prepping for moving day is 80-90% of what makes things go smoothly. We had everything boxed up, labeled, and staged by the doors of each room on moving day. Clothes taken out of closets and dressers and boxed up. Read thru the "what-to-expect" PDF and transported prohibited items ourselves before moving day (open chemical containers, alcohol, high value items like firearms). Everything you leave for the movers on moving day to deal with adds TIME. That, in turn, will increase your final cost, or torpedoes the whole move because of some showstopper. read more

Our worst move ever! Estimate wasn't correct. The movers left behind 3 truckloads for us to move ourselves . Nothing was wrapped and handled carefully. Numerous items were broken and irreplaceable! Boxes were dumped upside down. Our compensation for damaged furniture etc was ridiculous! Never choose this company!! Patrick, in regards to our 2/18/19 claim. First of all the woman who answers the phone from your company is extremely unprofessional! Half the time it sounds like she waking up from a dead sleep, and you have to ask " Do I have the right number?" Believe me my husband and I experienced that on numerous occasions. We hired Mountain Moving to move our piano to our new house. Unlike the other companies I contacted MM didn't call me at 8:30am every dang day (we work late...we sleep late) and offered a flat rate which was very reasonable. Every other company I contacted would give me an hourly rate which looked GREAT until they told you there was a 4 hour minimum. It's a piano. It's moving 5 miles. It's NOT going to take 4 hours. Max and Randy called when they left for our old house so we could meet them there rather than sit around an empty house during the appointment window. I have moved several times in my military career and this was the worst experience. The lead guy was rude!!! He condescending and was mocking me. When I caught him mocking me and was questioning on why was he doing that. He got his feelings hurt and said I can stop the job and leave. So I went ahead and called his office and to make a complaint. It so happen that JPPSO was making her rounds with inspecting and stop at my house. So, I explained to her about the situation and told her that the lead guy was going to leave without the job being done. She said no, they cannot just leave with finishing the Job. She called the office and the lead guy was going to be replace with another. JPPSO stayed until the other guy was relived from his duties. It took the owner of the company and JPPSO to fix this issue. Also, his buddies ratted him out that this is not the first that this dude had complaints I him. To my military family And friends, if transportation scheduled you with this company. I highly suggest you request for another moving company because these guys are rude and don't help you with anything!! If I had read these Yelp reviews before our move, I would have passed on Mountain Movers. As our move came into the horizon, we asked around for recommendations from friends and associates. Mountain Moving came up time and again, so we had the estimator come out. we hadn't moved in 42 years and were unsure how to proceed. Doug, the estimator, mapped it all out and made all the arrangements. The movers were punctual, efficient and kind to us and our belongings. We understood why our friends were raving about this company. Our son helped with the move. He was in the military for 20 years and commented that he had never, ever had movers of this quality. The estimator was promt and courteous, and he submitted an estimate electronically the afternoon after he visited our home. The move was to be a local move, about 3 miles. The estimate was one of three we received and was neither the highest or lowest. The decision to utilize Mountain was based primarily on the estimator. Moving day arrived and the crew of four arrived about 30 minutes behind schedule. No notice or updates were given of the estimated late arrival time. The move was completed and we had a couple of comments about our experience (detailed below) that I relayed to the management of the company the following day and asked for a call back from the manager. One week passed and I heard nothing, so I called again and spoke with the estimator and relayed our experience. I was assured that a follow-up phone call with the owner will be made. To date I have received no call, letter or text from Mountain regarding our moving experience. As explained to Mountain the move was like having a few buddies help with a move, not a professional moving company, the crew provided the muscle to move our wares, however they had no grace whatsoever in what they did. They arrived late, took extended breaks and were generally careless with our things, I even saw them put our mattress and box spring in the flowerbed and grass - providing grass stains that voided the warranty on each. They utilized our bathrooms on both ends of the move several times and were extremely careless in doing so. Cigarette butts were discarded in the flower bed and sidewalk area in front of our home providing more evidence of their professionalism. Generally the movers did the muscle of moving but had absolutely no grace or class in doing so. They had no regard for the quality of their product. The management of the company is blind to customer input or willing to provide follow-up, even when requested. We moved two years ago, from Seattle to Tacoma, utilizing a different company that was unfortunately unavailable for this move, and the experience was far better, the service, communication and pricing was far and away superior to the service provided by Mountain. read more

The office staff, inspector, and every crew member was professional and courteous. We would use them again and would recommend to our family and friends. They claim to be veteran friendly, so as a veteran myself, I trusted them..... bad idea. We received an estimate and our final bill was $2000 higher than the quote. This was quite the surprise as there had been no communication with us as to why the price had increased. This has been 3 1/2 months of total stress. After getting through the arrival of our belongings from storage in Washington (not told in advance the shipping would be subcontracted to Stevens Worldwide), with a driver taking a nap throughout most of the unloading process and given bad advice (we should have written down some things); we are now dealing with missing items from boxes. We paid for the replacement/repair insurance, but are getting no compensation for things that are missing. We initially gave the company the benefit of the doubt thinking a box may have gone on to Tucson (next delivery) or was left in storage, but it is very apparent that our boxes were tampered with either between our house and the two trucks, in storage, between storage and the Stevens truck, or between the truck and our garage. I personally talked to and saw the employee packing our flatware (stainless steel 12 place settings plus serving pieces from our wedding almost 38 years ago) in Washington. I found our two piece flatware trays in the drawer and took them out to be stored. The second day when they arrived to finish packing and moving our belongings I even told him I could have saved him time by having him wrap the two piece flatware trays with the flatware inside instead of packing them in a few bundles. I wanted to take the trays with me, too. I saw him put the flatware into a large packing box. We had over 240 boxes and items of furniture arrive in July so there was no way we would have known things were missing from boxes. Now, since every other item from our kitchen (with the exception of an expensive non-stick fry pan) arrived we realize a box was opened and things removed before getting here. We mistakenly thought with 9 months to file claims that we could be reimbursed for missing items inside the boxes. WRONG! We are being told that we signed for all the boxes so we can't have anything missing and we are being denied our claim. I also had an inexpensive plastic tote with hand held gardening tools and two pairs of gardening gloves that is missing. The tote would be insignificant, except it was given to me by my best friend from college when my dad died. They also gave us a hydrangea plant, but we could not move the plant from our yard, so I made a point of telling my husband I wanted to keep the tote with my gardening tools. Because we told people (including Mountain Moving owners) we gave away a lot of our belongings, I was made to feel like I was mistaken or lying about the gardening items. A couple of other things I do not have a personal account of, but that doesn't seem to matter anyway. We know they are missing, and we are being denied any compensation. They keep telling us that we signed a legal document that all the boxes arrived. How were we supposed to know the day 240+ boxes arrived that individual items were missing? The company manager told me to recheck boxes for items and ask our kids if we gave them things that were missing. We did not report broken plates that were packed by ourselves or a broken bed frame that was broken before we moved or a saddle that was listed on the inventory, but I said we gave to an employee in Washington. Why would we make a false report? We also don't understand why the replacement insurance does not cover items missing inside boxes. Surely, we are not the first people to have items misplaced, lost, stolen etc. before delivery. Why did they cover some damage to wooden furniture, but not missing things? Stevens is saying they didn't initially pack the items so they are not responsible and Mountain Moving is just telling us, "No," on everything missing. We were very naive (we know the owners of Mountain Moving) and way too trusting. For instance, we now know something was amiss with at least one box (besides the missing flatware and a few other items). The handlers brought several items to us (planter, cleaning supplies in a bag, floor steamer, one piece of our two piece flatware tray) in no box and told us, "These were last minute items and they weren't in a box and didn't have any numbers, so they weren't on the inventory list." Wow! How were they stored for 7+ months??? Also, weird that the flatware tray had another piece that was later found in a packed box. Why wouldn't those two pieces have been packed together? I also recently noticed on their legal paperwork that our lawn mower was listed with a grass catcher. We didn't have a yard when our items arrived in July so didn't check it closely and now realize the grass catcher never arrived. We know their answer is that we checked it on the inventory sheet, so we will not even waste our time on that one. (We should have been more diligent.) The driver assured us any damage and missing things would be taken care of but both Mountain Moving and Stevens won't pay anything because we didn't write it down the day of delivery. From getting the quote to moving day everything was on time and done well. An added bonus for us was the availability of boxes (used, but in good shape) that they make available to customers at no charge and then they came to pick them up after we were done with them. I had Mountain Moving & Storage move my apartment last fall and I couldn't be more pleased with my experience. I only moved a few blocks, but these guys pulled out all the stops regardless that they could have carried my furniture just down the street by hand. All of my belongings were boxed up neatly and orderly, delivered to the right space and nothing was damaged. They took better care of my belongings that I have in prior moves. I also had them help when I delivered a large piece of furniture across town to my apartment at a later date. All precautions were taken and my furniture is in great condition thanks to them. Did I mention that my apartments both were upstairs in vintage (1918 and 1957) buildings with no elevator and VERY narrow stairwells? The entire staff who helped, from the front end and sales staff to the guys who moved me, all were knowledgeable and professional. I would (and have) recommended Mountain Moving & Storage to anyone who needs moving. Whether it's down the block or across the country. If I would change anything from my experience, I wouldn't have bothered personally packing the portion of the job that I did and had left it all to these guys. We recently moved from northeast Tacoma to northwest Tacoma. We got estimates from three companies and selected Mountain Moving & Storage. The estimate was very reasonable. James gave us good advice about how to prepare for the move -- what to pack ourselves and what to leave for Mountain Moving and Storage to move. He lent us a large number of "gently used" boxes of various sizes to use in our packing. After the move, when we had everything unpacked, James came to our new home and took all the empty boxes and wrapping paper away. He even helped us take down a monster sized TV the previous owners had left and we didn't want. The day before the move two packers came and did a fabulous job packing dishes, paintings, photographs, and prints as well as various items we had not packed. The next day a four person team headed by Tee came and quickly loaded two trucks, drove to our new home, and just as quickly unloaded the trucks. Nothing was broken or lost. And the estimate turned out to be substantially higher than the final bill (mostly because we did a lot of packing ourselves). We declined the optional insurance and are glad we did. We couldn't be happier with how the move went and how friendly, efficient, and helpful everyone from Mountain Moving and Storage was. read more

We just moved to the area. Mountain Moving stored our belongings while we were in transit and unpacked our things upon arrival. The service was fantastic! They took great care to ensure our furniture made it safely into our new home. Joel, Webb, Dontae and Andrew were the best crew! They worked incredibly well together and were very efficient. Thanks to Mountain Moving & Storage for the worst moving experience of my life. 10/10 would not recommend. Not only were they 8 hours late because they forgot to put me on the schedule, every single individual that I dealt with were unprofessional except for the actual people who moved my stuff. I got a lot of "it's not my fault" and "well, do you want us to move you or not". At no time did anybody call me to let me know when to expect the movers. The "management", and I use that term loosely, couldn't handle the conversation because I was a little annoyed and she stated that she had never been talked to that way. At no point did I become irrational. I didn't curse but I was annoyed. She couldn't handle that. She should not be in management if she can't deal with customers. Then I spoke to her boss and not sure if he was a manager or the owner. Either way he was at least able to carry a conversation without getting his feelings hurt. He said "I don't know what else to do besides say I'm sorry". That was pretty weak attempt to make things right. At no point did anybody ask me what they could do to make things right. No discount was offered and once the movers did finally finish nobody called to follow up. I'm beyond amazed of the total disregard for my inconvenience that was their mistake. If you are in the Washington State area I urge you to never use this company. I will put this review on every single social media platform that I can. I will also strongly urge the Military that they don't use the company either. I almost forgot so I had to edit the review! They didn't wrap or protect anything. I have a broken lamp and a broken fan, but I wouldn't even bother contacting the company for a claim. Straight trash. They don't deserve any starts. read more

Had a terrible experience with Mountain Moving and their contract company, Stevens Van Lines for my cross country move last August. My household goods we're forgotten at Mountain Moving and then Stevens Van Lines admitted to overbooking the Northwest and my belongings didn't arrive until nearly 4 weeks later. They offered no discount/refund. Would not recommend these companies. read more
