They offer an online discount for the first 2 months I believe- we're using the unit until we move into our new house in a few weeks. The downside is there is no air conditioning in the building, if it's hot outside add 10-20 degrees inside. Updated. New rate increase of $35 a month - after 10 months. Rent increases at this company - nationwide - are in months 3, 12, 22, 31, and 41. From $160 a month to $342 for a 10x15 climate controlled. Military families need long term storage and this policy of rapid increases and doubling month is ludicrous really. Worse is they do not disclose when you rent - but they push hard for reviews - that's because when you get rate increases you already left positive. If you need long term storage look elsewhere. They are aggressively priced and hide it. 3 units now - 2021 move in - more than 6 states and they all price the same and all go UP! read more

This place is nice, easy to get in and a good staff. The surrounding areas is a little sketchy but they have good cameras, fence, lights etc

unfortunately there is no "zero" stars to select moved in to a unit and rent was $175/month. before moving in, i asked how long the rate was in effect. Martin, the manager, said the rate can go up at any time. sure enough, 3 months later i got a notice that my rent was going up to $255/month. Do your own research, you'll see that this is there business model: lure renter in with a promotional rate, then in a few months gouge them with a big increase. google "extra space storage class action lawsuit" and you will see they do this nationally TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!! read more

If it were possible to leave a zero I would...listen to the most recent reviews for this place, they're spot on!! Customer service is horrible. I went in looking for a small unit, right away the employee had a bad attitude and was extremely rude. I told him I needed to store some boxes of clothing...he asked exactly how many and told me I need a certain size that they do not have. I asked what they DO have and he said that they don't do refunds but he can give me the price but really it's a huge mistake to even check. The whole time he was looking he was going on and on about how this was a bad idea, don't get this unit....blah....I was polite enough to wait for him to finish what he was saying before I walked out. He quoted me over 100 for the tiniest unit they had. Thanked him for his time and left. Drove about 30 seconds away to a different storage place where the employees are helpful and professional. I was shown a unit right away, given different options, told the rules up front and not to mention paid $40 less than what I was quoted at Extra Space. If you value customer service, do not do business here. read more

I want to recommend this Extra Space storage as they were strait forward with price etc. The staff was also courteous and professional. I was on a cross country road trip and had to store my popup camper for 25 days when I left for a business trip. They told me the first month would only be $22 dollars for the first month and then would go up to the regular rate after 30 days. They told me this would be my best option as I would be storing it less than a month. So I picked up my camper 25 days later and it was only $22 dollars. No tricks or hidden fees. It was a pleasant experience. I have learned that not all of the companies involved in the storage business are as strait up and honest as Extra Space Storage was to me. read more

Have been using this storage facility for over 3 years now; and it has been smooth sailing the entire time. Manager is friendly and very accommodating especially towards military members. I have jumped between three different units of three different sizes over the years and the transition has always been easy. No complaints for this establishment. The Manager at Extra Space Storage in Lakewood is the most disrespectful, rudest, and unprofessional person I have ever met. I have 3 units and I was moving and storing things all day and got a chair to take a break to drink some water when the Manager comes and tells me that I couldn't have the storage door slightly down to block the sun and that it looked like that I was trying to live in the storage unit because im sitting down and have the door blocking the sun and those are signs of people trying to live in the units. I was so mad and angry for him disrespecting me like this i had to defend myself. So after some words and arguments he left. Then I went to get a unit for my mom he straight out told me if i was trying to SWINDLE him in trying to get another unit in my mothers name and get another free month and switch lockers is't not going to work. Again so Disrespectful and Rude. I straight out asked him what is your problem you dont want me here or you dont like me what is it? He said i worked her 12 years Mister and I Seen it all, so thats why you are rude and disrespectful to customers. Absolutely no excuse. Fire him immediately. read more

Had my stuff here for a year, payed for insurance thru extra space, and when 500 dollars of my stuff came up missing, of which I have several witnesses that saw my possessions go in there, the insurance and storage agreed no one "tampered" with the lock so I will not be reimbursed. This place is just too expensive. They will get you in there with a good rate, then you will start receiving postcards in the mail telling you they are upping your rent. I was renting their smallest unit for $80 a month when I first started, this month my rent was $130. Today I cleaned out my unit and left. Good riddance, Extra Space Storage. read more

Clean and neat premises, newer facilities. Seems decently secure. Expect them to raise your rate at about the 3 month mark. They've done this to me both times I've rented here. You get in on a competitive rate, but once you have unloaded all of your stuff you will get a notification letter telling you your rates just went up. Surprise! Overall a decent storage facility. I stored my belongings here for a six month deployment and everything was safe and dry when I got back. Rates were good when I stored so since I knew I would be gone the whole time I payed all six months in advance. They make you use a special lock for the door that only they sell. They also have a free truck to use when you move your stuff in but they don't let you use it when you move out. I would use this facility again but only because I have my own truck to move out with. read more

Lakewood is a clean quiet place to store your valuables but moving out is a beast. My rate increased 3 times in 2 years. In my final month I paid on the 17th of the month (due date) moved out on the 26th. Because I did not give 10 days notice of intent to leave there is NO prorate. I paid $260 for 9 days. I spoke with Steve in the office who said my money was lost to me but at least I dont have to pay next month. Huh? No kidding! Huh? There's customer treatment for you!! Walked in to get a basic rate for a 5x5 unit and was met with a very unprofessional tone from who I'm assuming is the manager. Asked about the sign out front saying 1st month free and the man immediately stated "did you notice the asterisk? That means there is exceptions and what your asking for is the exception." All said in a very talk down manner towards us. As we started asking for another sized unit the the man stated again rudely, "NO DEALS, did you read the sign?" We left immediately. I made my storage reservation over the phone with ESS customer service. They quoted me a price and we went to sign for the storage unit. Upon arriving I was told about additional costs, such as their specific lock. The manager was very over accomodating in giving us a good deal for the miscommunication from customer service.
