My order shipped 6 days after I placed it. In fact, I'm still waiting to receive it. I ordered, online, on a Tuesday. The following Monday I received an email, with my tracking number. Additionally, they failed to inform me that two of my items were out of stock. I found this surprise out, when I pulled up my account, on the MRH Website. Most stores would notify the consumer, immediately, of out of stock items and then ask if the consumer wished to make a substitution or have the difference refunded. MRH did nothing. And to top it off they only issued a refund for 1 of the 2 out of stock item [nor is there a partial refund on the shipping cost]. I speculate that the delay may have been due to MRH attempting to wait, to see if the out of stock items would become available. If that was the case, they should have communicated with me. I would not have had a problem, had they communicated with me and offered me options. In this instance, it seems like they just pushed my order to the side and forgot about it. As a first time customer, ordering online, Im terribly disappointed. read more

This business caters to much of my herbal organic wishes:) Firstly, it is important to support fabulous local and regional companies - and all their initiatives and employment etc. Secondly, by doing that you contribute to regional economies. Thirdly, I appreciate the opportunity to be informed. Their emails are ones i actually read rather than delete in a fury. I read the tips, I love the videos, I enjoy the recipes, I LEARN (and I have been active in the organic home cottage industry scene for many decades and there is always room for more education!). Fourthly, the products are excellent: I can taste, feel and smell the freshness and quality. Fifthly, the shipping and packing is not a sea of overkill plastic, alleluia. Online purchases make my heart sink - the waste, the ecological impact, and the rest of it. I admit, this is one company I do not mind buying online because of their value and care. Good one - they think about others (hooray!) through funding eg: Grants 4 Plants and their donations to communities. This company has therefore been able to help many other communities - a win-win. What is not to love! I have visited their brick and mortar in Eugene and enjoyed it, finding staff to be informative, kind and sweet. I wish they had a store in Seattle. read more

Horrible, horrible. During pandemic I ordered online. First, they said a week to ship, then over 2. Needed my immune herb. Contacted to cancel, as I could receive it quicker elsewhere. Refused to cancel, said they "couldn't find it." I ordered elsewhere, will receive this week. Mtn Rose refuses to cancel my order. I don't want it. They are stealing my money. Sent countless emails. Will have to dispute with credit card company. Stay away. Herbs have gone down & now they are the worse business. So many have risen, not them. BUY YOUR HERBS ELSEWHERE. Disappointed. I have bought carrier oils and essential oils from MRH for the past 3 years. Now the quality of their services and products are questionable. Twice I have received the incorrect oil, although their costumer service assured me it was the correct one, I know it was not. I've purchase carrier oils and essential oils for many years and I know what's what. I talked to friends who know oils pretty well and they agreed with me, the oil I received had a complete different color and odor than the oil I purchase. Twice I did not receive the correct oil. Well, now I distrust this company, and won't any longer purchase their products again. read more

Great store! Unfortunately, the quality of products are hit and miss. Dried herbs should be used within a year of harvest and dried carefully to retain potency. The majority of herbs I've purchased and inspected from Mountain Rose Herbs are without much taste and smell (a sign of loss of potency) and appear to have been dried poorly (burnt). I'd love to see harvest dates on their products, and I recommend asking for that information before buying. read more

I was recommended these guys by a good friend of mine who has a lot more knowledge of teas and herbs than I do (working on it!) I have never been a big tea drinker but she recommended I order a bunch of nettles and I went ahead and got some genmaicha and sencha green tea as well as a french press and suribachi from them as well. Color me convinced! I can't stop drinking these lovely teas. They are so good!! The package was packed with AMAZING care and everything that came in the box was recyclable. I really appreciate how eco-friendly Mountain Rose is and all of the teas I have received, as well as the french press and suribachi, are of really good quality. Mountain Rose Herbs touts itself as being environmentally friendly, however all of their herbs are shipped in individual plastic bags. I asked them about this over a year ago, and have seen other commenters on their blog asking about it, and the excuse is always, "we are looking for better packaging solutions" but it's a crock. Other companies are managing to do without plastic, why can't MRH? Plastic is cheap and easy, that's why companies use it. I won't be buying anything else from MRH until they get their act together and start living up to the reputation they've created for themselves. I think I just found my new favorite store. I always passed by this shop and had intentions of stopping in but because the front door faces away from the main street I kept forgetting to stop by! Located in a beautiful, old brick building this wonderful shop has all of your herbal needs! When I stepped inside I was blown away by how big this place is. There are so many options of tinctures, herbs, essential oils and you can even make your own incense blends. They also have a tea section and some herbal remedies for pets! Today I just browsed and purchased a tummy calming bitters and a tincture for muscle pain but I want to come back in and really explore more. They do have a website you can order from and it has more thorough description of their products. Some other items you can find here are books, beeswax candles, tea pots and little bottles/containers. The prices seem pretty reasonable to me but some things were definitely an investment. I like how they are connected to a cute coffee shop so you can grab a treat when you are done with all of your shopping. read more

After my order was recently cancelled, it inspired the following review. I rarely take the time to review and typically move on from negativity with ease. Your company has struck such a nerve with me though that I am absolutely committed to spreading the word. Having earned a reputation for being personally and professionally committed to natural care, I am often consulted on what oils to use and the hush hush of who's better than YL? For years now, I have boasted about MRH and sent multitudes of customers your way. I literally mention MRH in at least one conversation a week. Although I will continue to do so, the tone will be quite the opposite of what it once was. "I was once a loyal MRH customer and loved their products. Unfortunately, I had such an awful customer service experience I will never use them again and will spread the word. A little while back, my husband physically assaulted me and we separated. As part of his outburst, he had called our creditors and told them that I had fraudulently used his card to pay our bills. He even tried to call the cops and report me for fraud. They immediately realized what was going on, looked at texts with him saying to use his card (as we always had) and dismissed the matter with sincere apology. We had also owned and operated a construction company together, which he pretty much stole when he left leaving me and the kids with no money, no transportation and no way to work. Move forward a couple months and now I've finally got enough money to get my long awaited order from MRH. Oils are a huge part of my life. I use them for cleaners, plant care, pet care, myself and my children. We are all suffering from ptsd and we're out of our essentials, quite literally! So you can imagine my excitement as I spent that sweet hour picking out my order, thinking of how much better everything would be in a few days (lol). Everything goes thru, looks fine and yeah, confirmation good to go! Next day I get an email saying my order has been cancelled. I contact support and go thru a few mins of chat before I'm given to "manager" who explains that my account has been closed due to fraud. I explain the situation, they don't care. The representative actually went so far as to say that I had committed a chargeable crime! I was absolutely appalled. Throughout this entire debacle, Mountain Rose Herbs was the only creditor to treat me this way. After everything my boys and I have been thru, this was the icing on the debasement cake." Don't shop here - they try to give the illusion of a small local place, but they are the countries largest supplier of herbs, and they are from California. The quality is not good. My friend who is an herbalist saw their ad for the manager of their "flagship" Eugene retail store that stated "No prior herbal experience needed". The person who "helped" me was clueless. I was looking for black walnut tincture and she did not know there was a green version. People could die because they are dealing with herbs here, and the staff does not know what they are doing. That is negligence and could be medically dangerous to customers. They were out of items on my list with no idea of when supply would be in. A woman who was hanging out and inspecting every item in the store - lingering, made a beeline for us barged in between us and reached around my special needs daughter (making her uncomfortable) to replace something on a shelf - I made a quiet comment about it - since she is obviously just hanging out for a long time, why the need to rush over and inappropriately touch my daughter? This resulted in the clerk attacking me, telling me off, making me the bad guy. The problem with Eugene is all these hipsters think that everyone should touch everyone and everyone should have sex with everyone. If you don't want to play, you get persecuted. That is just not healthy. It's a good thing that there are many herb suppliers in the area, so I don't have to spend my money at a store where the staff abuses customers. read more

This review is about their very poor customer service and extremely slow delivery. We ordered on Feb. 21st, 2018 and did not receive the priority mail shipment until Feb. 28th. I was charged $18.36 for priority. when I called and complained I was told there is no guarantee and that the post office can take 5 days to deliver priority. Wow! I get priority deliveries from all over the country every week and have never hear that bs before. They took two full days to fill an order of 3 bags of herbs. What are they doing? I am so disappointed and upset. I have been a customer for some time, and was always satisfied until now. I placed an order the other day, and was called later in the day to be told that they were cancelling my order and deleting my account permanently because they had linked my account to someone of a similar name that they suspected of fraud. I explained that I was in NO way connected either in payment, shipping or ordering to this other individual, and the lady I spoke with could see that was true. She said she would speak to her director, but the director refused to change the decision. This is not only highly insulting and unprofessional, it is worrisome because of the mismanagement of personal financial data. This can easily damage your credit rating when companies do things like this in such an arbitrary way and then refuse to fix their mistakes. Credit is important in today's online climate, and something like this can have far reaching effects. I think buyer beware is in order here. read more

I've been meaning to post this review for a long while. I used to LOVE this company but am sad to say I've decided not to buy from them again. Their quality has decreased dramatically over the years. The worst part is they lie and don't care. They sell you something that has gone bad or expired/rancid like a carrier oil or sell you something that has only a few months shelf life. This happened to me multiple times and I was too busy to complain so I tossed it....when you do try to make a complaint they will correspond with you with all these lengthy "steps" official investigation BS (some of which made no sense and appeared to be written by an intern) to make you think they care and then always result in saying "our sample is is still good" so it must be your fault that you did not store it properly when you actually did store it properly ....therefore you are stuck with ingredients and you have to toss them. One time I called and spoke with an "expert" there because a rose hydrosol that I purchased had clearly gone bad. It smelled like vinegar. The man said "rose hydrosol will always smell like vinegar". I could not believe he said that. I spoke with 2 other major companies (one of which was a woman known around the world and considered to be an expert in EO and hydrosols) Both companies told me NO Rose hydrosol should never smell like vinegar even a bit....this means it has gone bad and they explained that rose hydrosol is one of the most delicate hydrosols that often goes bad with temperature changes - they also said they hear a lot of complaints about Mountain Rose. My hydrosol arrived bad but Mountain Rose refused to replace it. read more

Got a gift card from my kids to MRH and was excited to use their online service to get some great herbs. Unfortunately, EACH time I have tried to use the card, I've heard a different excuse as to why I can't simply redeem it online. All of the excuses related to what they aren't able to do "yet"... I've seriously been trying to use this card since 2017! Today I decided to just dive in, and order stuff so I could be done with it. They told me the same story they've been telling for 2 years... website not up to snuff, allow them to "pre-authorize" the charge for items on my card, they will read my"special instructions" about the gift card and apply the value, then charge me the difference. We shall see. I WOULD NOT recommend asking for a gift card to use. If you order online, just expect slow, snail mail service. It's too bad they don't get it. read more

I switched from my regular California supplier for this reason. This company appears more customer-centered compared to others, and because they operate from the U.S., you can trust the quality of their products. I've been buying here for a while, so I decided to treat myself to some of the expensive oils that I've been wanting for some time now. I needed some patchouli and lemon essential oil also. I saw a one-day special online of 15% off the total order, so I decided this was the time. Along with the patchouli and lemon, I got 15 ml Lemon Balm (Melissa), 15 ml Neroli, 15 ml Helichrysum, 15 ml Vanilla Absolute, 1/8 oz Rose Absolute (Would've loved the more expensive one - maybe next time!) 1/8 oz Jasmine Absolute and 15 ml Australian Sandalwood. I spent almost $1,000 after discount, but it was a whole lot less than it would've been elsewhere and anyway, I'm worth it! The oils arrived today, they are fabulous and worth every penny! My personal favorite recipe is 3 drops patchouli, 3 drops sandalwood, 2 drops Neroli and 1 drop vanilla absolute. For variety, I switch the 2 drops neroli for 1 drop Jasmine absolute. I use the recipe in a diffuser or mix it with my favorite scent-free body butter. AWESOME! read more
