The Kiva is an awesome natural food store. They have a great bulk section. Heaps of fresh organic produce. The staff here is friendly. I absolutely love that they have a smart eclectic selection of books from western to eastern herbs to cookbooks including vegan cookbooks and more. Where The Kiva shines above even Sundance aka my favorite natural food store in Eugene and maybe on the planet is that The Kiva makes made to order sandwiches that are fresh as you can imagine packed with heaps of vegetables. Sundance used to have amazing sandwiches yet this past trip to Eugene found Sundance's sandwiches underwhelming aka the bread was dry and wasn't fresh. Pro tip: Get the stellar salad bar and hot bar at Sundance while getting the made to order sandwich at The Kiva I am deducting one star for there is no place to eat your sandwich at The Kiva for they used to have tables out front to enjoy your sandwich when I last lived in Eugene so you have to take your sandwich to go. Lastly for my sandwich and the drill here is you can make your own sandwich by choosing bread. I chose tempeh hummus and heaps of veggies etc. Sandwich is an A+ Check them out. I went here for the first time today after seeing someone on Reddit recommend them for good cheese options. I'm doing a cheese and crackers picnic with my partner tonight and wanted a variety of cheeses without having to pay an arm and a leg for huge blocks. The deli here had cheese block ends at lower prices in a little basket and there are so many great options! None of the blocks I got (out of 9) cost more than $3.80 and they were all pretty good sizes. I was tempted to get even more but didn't want to be stingy. This store has all kinds of food that normal grocery stores don't. They also have a couple of clearance shelves with some cool items on them. The vibes in the store are fantastic and I will definitely be going back at least for discount cheese if not other things. The people working here are friendly and have a great sense of humor. We love to come to the Kiva after church to get sandwiches to go. The breads and filling choices are fresh and delicious. There's so many options, we never get the same thing twice. It's popular, so there's a bit of a wait, but there's so much to see it's fun to look around and pick up a few things. The staff is always pleasant and patient. read more

Yes indeed, this is a wonderful health food market. The market is clean, food clearly labeled and the produce appeared very fresh. Prices are fair, with a great assortment of organics. I'm hungry but have put my basket down in protest as you will not receive any more $green energy from us. my partner and I just stopped into Eugene while hopping trains- backpacking on foot, exclusively to come to your market. We both have fond memories of your market and literally you "turned me on to healthy food" -quote from @travelintoexist. While directing James towards the scale to measure some goods, one of your employees added "make sure not to put anything in your backpack"... I heard it coming when she asked about our backpacks... have you forgotten the traveling folk that once made Eugene the cultural epicenter that it was? Or do you only cater to those traveling via automobiles powered by lithium ion pillaged from lands where you may source some of your most exotic delicacy's... I digress. It's the end of the month. We've no food stamps left and I was prepared to spend our cash, and walked in smiling and excited for all of the nutritious wholesome goods unavailable most anywhere else... we left angry, crying and hungry because despite doing enough to have the ways and means to access the quality foods yall purvey, a person representing your market created a social barrier to us having the healthiest food along our travel route. Yes i opted to put down my basket, but let it be known that such behaviors and apparent lack of discriminatory policies are the exact thing turning places like Eugene to cultureless captive impoverished population centers where no one has any reason to visit... when the places that once enabled those on the edge of it all to become the wholesome healthy revolutionaries, instead they are now deciding who should be cast out one by one... we're going across the street to Whole Foods now and I look forward to when the kiva is long gone and not even a doted counter culture memory but maybe a Walgreens. The Kiva is our favorite. We do our shopping here weekly. They have all organic produce and usually some good local veggies and fruit. We can rely on them having local bread and eggs too. We like getting meat and cheese from their large deli area, which was updated not too long ago. Sometime we grab lunch from there too. They always have two homemade soup choices, make sandwiches to order, and they lots of fun salads in the case. Their prices are pretty good for produce and most of our fresh staples. Some things can be a little pricier, but I think they still might be cheaper than Market of Choice for most things. They offer pick-up and delivery. We used this during the height of the pandemic. We would call and ask for what we wanted and they did the shopping for us. It was great! Support local and support this Eugene institution! read more

The BEST fresh sandwiches in town... HANDS DOWN! The way they assemble... apply your chosen condiments and offer up a variety of veggies, cheeses, breads and proteins is like every other sandwich shop combined... ON STEROIDS!!! They layer each offering perfectly, so if you can't get to your sandwich for a few hours it is never soggy. How in the heck do they wrap them up so tight and perfect is beyond me. Oh... they have a choice of sprouts and I always get the pea sprouts for crunch. If you add avocado, you won't be lifting up your Dave's Killer bread to see if it's actually there! It's there and it's visible! The bread choices are almost ridiculous... is it silly to say there are too many? Yeah... it's silly..: they aim to please all diners with every intricate sensitivity! The downside? Lunch hour is a ZOO.:: it is always packed... the lines are long and that can be intimidating. I've discovered their online order app and it is pretty seamless and it is the only place I order my food online. Pro Tip: they also sell a myriad of bread makers in their store. Including Metropol, Bread Stop and my personal favorite addiction: MODO bakery--- they bake their own bread for Beppe and Giani (among others)... they are family owned (locally).. they owners are the SHIZZ! If you're lucky enough to get the the Kiva early enough to snag a loaf... their PANINO loaf is my all time favorite (it also comes in half loaves for under $3. How's that possible? I usually roll in late and much to my dismay and self-loathing (that I didn't get there earlier) they are completely wiped out of every loaf! They have a little bit of everything, mostly leaning in on organics and local produce and other unexpected sundries. Their deli and supplemental offerings are highly respectable for a small market. They even have a book section and bulk food. Can you imagine that? Kudos to the Kiva! I've been shopping at the Kiva since 2008. These days, I always say, "I don't know what I'd do without my Kiva" and I mean it. Sometimes I go in there three times a day. Many of the employees that have worked there throughout the years have become what I consider very dear friends. The prices are comparably affordable and the selection includes both the necessities and the indulgences. Over time I feel that it's gotten to be cuter and cuter in the sections of gifts and housewares. I love seeing what's been ordered for the holidays! It's a very easy and delightful shopping experience. Every one in the deli knows how to make the best dirty chai I've ever had and honestly if you're looking for a good coffee, I'd go there before somewhere else. I have to confess that I have not gone in here for the last eight months I've lived in Eugene, because I just assumed it was some version of market of choice run by hippies. That is to say - bespoke overpriced organic produce & Kombucha on tap. I can say that is a reformed hippie and Fred Meyer's shopping vegetarian. My punishment for my arrogance is that I have missed out shopping here for almost a year. Kiva exceeded all expectations. They have an amazing broad and diverse selection of everything : from home goods to condiments and although small, the selection of produce is high-quality, well priced and everything you need. Including fresh horseradish which I have not been able to find in at least three other stores. And every staff member I interacted with was a sweet kind lovely person Glowing with some inner joy that made everyone's day brighter. Not just for hippies. Try it you'll like it! read more

After months of having items delivered from this store I had an unpleasant encounter I could not ignore and simply called in to voice my complaint. I spoke with someone who said they were the management although I am uncertain simply because the grade of professionalism was very low. After continued rudeness from the manager and him speaking over me I simply said I won't be placing any further orders and hung up. I then recieved a call from a personal number. It was the manager calling back continuing to be rude. I asked why he was calling back as I'd already told him I wouldn't be placing any further orders. He continued being rude so I hung up again. This quality of customer service was again very low when speaking with the "manager" When one calls to voice a complaint excuses shouldn't be made. Especially when someone has patronized an institution and didn't mention any names. When I spoke of the occurrence which caused me to complain anything but the present situation was addressed and isolated instance of unrelated matters was brought up. I can easily say I have never had a store manager be so rude especially as I was being so polite. He complained about things that were inaccurate or an isolated event. He said my call was taking up a lot of time even at that moment as though he didn't have time to properly hear my complaint only to be rude. He alluded to the fact that I was too pleasant so apparently Kiva prefers unpleasant clientele and if one calls to complain just know you won't be heard but verbally attacked by management. Even as I attempted to address what he was saying he simply spoke over me. Any matter that he brought up was simply a function of a grocery store so it was all highly unprofessional. Needless to say, this isn't the sort of place I'd want to spend any type of money. Whole Foods, Natural Grocers, and Sundance market all have the same items for cheaper and without the rudeness. If Kiva is going to have personal grudges against clientele and maintain anything beyond a professional relationship... Then another line of business would be recommended. As I always say, money is green and they take it everywhere; money in all forms. So, this is not the first time someone at kiva has come off as rude or condescending so am happy to be freed from the shackles of their unpleasantness. There are some nice people who work there as well but there are others with an unpleasant undertone which I looked beyond because they deliver; and although they were attempting to be rude I simply refused to be effected... Anyhow, I encourage anyone who's patronage and money is undervalued at this store or otherwise to go where you are appreciated and respected. Bottom line, a lack of respect equals you don't get my patronage. This situation could have been handled in a different way... Am also simply hoping the "manager" doesn't call again. That sort of behavior from an employee is extremely aggressive, bizarre, and unprofessional behaviour... Had my complaint been properly and respectfully managed we could have gone our separate ways without further action... read more

Whew! I don't know if the person who made my sandwich today hates people or has never had horseradish, but that was an experience I didn't anticipate or enjoy. I'll post a photo so you can see the horseradish to pesto (where is the pesto!?) ratio happening here... Beware! Aside from that, and that they have a weird habit of making the sandwiches with everything in the very center of the bread, the market itself is a pretty great gem of the neighborhood. They have a great selection of several kinds of items, bath, coffee, bulk, beer and cider, as well as local veggies and a well thought out book selection. This store reminds me of a local 'natural foods' store that was in my area where I used to live (it has since closed), and stepping foot into the Kiva reminded me of that store, only bigger and with more stuff, like a deli and a produce section. One wouldn't expect to find this type of store downtown. For a small store, it's impressive. They have a little of everything. When I have more time, I'll have to be back. I was looking for a local place that could deliver goodies to my parents for their 50th anniversary. I live in California so I called to place an order with Pamela who was super nice and helpful. I gave her an idea of what I wanted/budget (which they used perfectly down to the last few cents.) Within a few hours Sheherazade dropped everything off (contactless and masked.) They put together a nice selection of local cheeses, salami , crackers, wine, fruit and a beautiful bouquet of flowers which all brought giant smiles to my parent's faces. They said the strawberries (Pamela recommended) were the sweetest they've ever had and there were so many fresh flowers they had to split them into two vases. They are saving the well wrapped & nicely labeled cheeses/salami for their actual SIP celebration tomorrow. Long story short... both women were extremely kind and great with communicating. Prompt Instagram DM response, calling with my total and texting upon delivery which was free.) Items selected were excellent and I definitely plan to order from The Kiva again. It's a no brainer to SHOP LOCAL especially right now! Oregon people are the best! The only negative is that these wonderful essential people can't accept tips. The Kiva is the best grocery store in Eugene for the following reasons: Best cheese selection bar none, with competitive prices. Fresh, local produce with hard-to-find items. Great coffee selection with the most reasonable prices on gourmet coffee that I have seen in Eugene. Wide selection of bulk items that are frequently purchased, so they never go stale. Best cracker / cookie / biscuit selection outside of the European Union - I can always find the perfect, fun snack at the Kiva. Excellent, unique wine selection. A wonderful deli with friendly, helpful employees and my favorite veggie sandwich on the planet. Generally kind, quirky staff who are always helpful, even as they deal with a busy store in downtown Eugene. The Kiva regularly tops the Best of Eugene polls, and it's no wonder. In my opinion, there aren't enough stars for this locally owned gem. read more

This is a great little market in walking distance from my place. Like most small markets, it would be expensive to do all of your shopping here, so you have to figure out what works inside of your shopping needs and budget 5 stars is for the really extensive bulk section which helps those people on the quest towards zero waste. It's massive - One and a half aisles of bulk - and very reasonably priced! I love the Cafe Mam organic espresso for about 10.80/lb, that's my most frequent purchase. All the spices you could want are available in bulk at a really good price. You should bring your reusable container to fill up but they do offer small paper bags and small plastic ones (which they should really phase out) It's also got a great deli and coffee bar, not particular needs of mine but enjoyed the first time I went. Produce is quite beautiful here but on the pricey side so I just got 1-2 things when I really need it. I read the reviews critical of staff and idk, mostly cashiers are friendly in my experience - people who give bad reviews to businesses based on what they perceive as bad service are usually hard to please types that would probably get really low reviews if we were allowed to rate them. What I want to know on Yelp is how is the food at the restaurant, how are the groceries at the market, and how is the work at the auto shop - I could give a damn if some hard to please customer had someone roll their eyes at them because they were being ridiculous. And while I sympathize with the guy who was insulted by a belligerent homeless person outside and decided to ask Kiva's staff to do something about it instead of 'breaking his kneecaps' - and will never shop at Kiva again because the cashiers didn't do anything... It is certainly not a cashier's job to deal with angry homeless people outside the store while they are working for minimum wage or close to - it's actually your job to do something about it if it bothers you, so rather than break kneecaps next time you hear someone say 'how bout some pussy' in that context, just tell him you prefer balls, then kick him in his, and perhaps he'll get the message. If you don't want to do that then just walk away and forget about it, it's not worth your time. read more

Amazing quality goods at reasonable price at this downtown small market. Using my "Bok Choy test", (do they have it? A lot of stores in January 2022 don't. What quality is it? How is it priced compared to other similar sized markets & the Big Boys?), all of their produce was fresh, high quality and had normal prices. Plenty of street parking on both sides of store front door. Staff very helpful in locating items I needed. We stopped in right before closing as they were highly recommended to us by fellow local climbers/college students as the spot for good salads. Unfortunately because it was right before closing the staff was ready to leave and there were no salads and they weren't the friendliest. We hurriedly perused their amazing selection of products and left with some really inexpensive high quality bacon(the total opposite of a salad) and some unique Oregon soda/health drinks. Love all the cool artisanal sodas that Oregon makes. We picked up a honey kombucha and tumeric ale. I need more of that tumeric ale in my life. read more

I can't believe I've waited this long to review the kiva, it's been my favorite grocery store for pretty much my entire life. Tons of vegan options, an amazing deli with custom vegan sandwhiches and housemade deli salads. They even have soy creamer and agave etc at their self serve coffee bar. A really excellent produce section also. Their staff is easily the coolest staff in town, even the owner seems pretty cool (based upon his work with the city council). Viva la Kiva! read more

I really like The Kiva. They have great sandwiches at their deli and an amazing snack selection. They even deliver by bicycle if you want a sandwich delivered to your place of work! Make sure to place your order early though because they always get slammed during lunch time. They have a small produce section and the store is small in general but there are some great finds and I really enjoy supporting local businesses. They have their own parking lot which makes it very accessible for being in downtown Eugene. When I need a snack whether it be healthy or maybe a little indulgent I always stop by the Kiva if I am in the area. They also have really beautiful bouquets of flowers and cute little items that would make great gifts. read more

It also offers an array of rare books, flower bouquets, spices, cheeses, and a large selection of vintage wines. Opened in 1970, this locally owned business is constantly bustling with customers. And unlike some other establishments there is plenty of friendly and knowledge staff on hand to answer questions or assist with checkouts. Although a bit pricey in general, you're paying for the best in natural & specialty foods, organic produce, and unique novelties. i went to the kiva today with my food stamps I didn't realize I didn't have enough money so I couldn't get the good stuff I wanted then I sat with my computer near the mural and a random dude with a car plate missing said he was the security and I needed to get off the property was really alarming because he didn't have a badge or anything here just came up to me all aggressively then proceeded to to put his hands on me and remove me I was like what. what did I do I've never been treated this way on kiva property and im 19 I've been coming here since highschool this was like anxiety inducing and extremely triggering because I have experienced traumatic experiences this guard clearly blew this out of proportion and needs to have a sit down I don't even think he's a real like guard because I never see him here and also if that's the case why would he treat his customers this way?! it makes me not wanna ever come back. don't get me wrong I love the food people and faces but that guard is like taking advantage of his role and acting way to aggressively he didn't even show me his badge. read more

I've been shopping at Kiva since I moved to Lane Co. in 2014. They source the most local, seasonal organic produce possible, their cheese selection and local pastured eggs/meats are excellent! They also sell a lot of small, independent produced high quality products like Duck (ketchup/mustard), Sweet Creek (many items- tuna, pasta sauces, pickles etc), Lonely Lane Farm, Pasta Plus and Mountain Rose Herb products....these are just a few. The bulk selection is the BEST in town (except Sundance which I also support)! I save a ton of money by buying from the bulk foods AND non-food items! The staff is always helpful and appreciate how friendly they are, unlike most big stores where employees are not treated well or well paid. read more
