Great little "hotel" in Parowan!…read more All the hotels in Brian Head were completely booked solid or very expensive for New Year's Eve, so our choices were to book a hotel in Parowan (19 miles away) or Cedar City (40 miles away). We chose to stay in Parowan for convenience. It came down to Days Inn or Victoria's, so we chose Victoria's since it was a similar price and seemed like a slightly bigger space. There is no website, so we knew we were in for a bit of a gamble. To call Victoria Rose Country Inn a "hotel" is generous - it seems like a house with a converted upstairs for guests. Things that were great: - Gail, the innkeeper, is great. She was so nice and so accommodating about our dog, checking in, and checking out. She was really nice and always answered the phone promptly. - Lots of space for what you pay for. Separate rooms each for the bedroom, bathroom, and living room. There is a small kitchenette with a kettle, blender, coffee maker, pots and pans, dishes and glasses, and a full sized fridge. This was important as there weren't many dining options available in Parowan, especially for New Year's Eve. - Great proximity to Brian Head. From the 15, Parowan is actually on the way to Brian Head itself, so it's super easy to check in at the inn and head straight to Brian Head for the day's activities. - The hot water is HOT. Given the apparent age of the building and how cold it was outside, I was expecting the water to not get hot at all, but it gets and stays plenty hot. Things that could be better: - The bed is super small. I am also super small, some would say "tiny," so it wasn't too much of a problem for us, but I could not at all imagine two "average-sized Americans" fitting on this bed. - The doors are super thin, so if people are talking in the hallway or going in/out of their room, it sounds like they are IN your room. Things that are neutral / FYI: - The TV is super old school - it has a VCR - so don't expect to bring your PS4 and plug it in to play. Read a book instead. The prior owner, John Grisainger at least had GOOD food, quality food being served. Not this cut rate, previously frozen, cafeteria food that's now "available" here. This place is sad, and I doubt John thought this company would turn this place into what it is now. Who in their right mind thought downgrading everything but upping the costfor everything was a good idea..... Oh, I know.... A corporation that DOESN'T care about its customers, that's who.. We have been skiing at Bryan head for a few years now, but this time I wanted to try snowboarding…read moreso I took a lesson it was OK. But the second day I had a free two hour lesson and since I was the only one in the class, it was like a private lesson the instructor, Riz, was excellent. It was far better than day one. I was able to progress in my snowboarding. She took me on the lift and coached me on the way down. We implemented some new techniques. I fell, of course, but I learned a lot later that day it started lightly snowing. I was able to sneak in one last run before the lifts closed. My family has always enjoyed Bryan Head ski resort - this time we also brought my sister-in-law's family and they were beginners and they had a blast!

We had two rooms for three nights and got four free ski lift tickets! On our last night there was a planned power outage from 11 PM to 3 AM by the local power company. It went by uneventful though no big deal. The hotel did provide extra blankets and a flashlight for each room. The breakfast in the restaurant was very good. And my son got a nice Philly cheesesteak one night for dinner. I think we'll be back. It's a nice place!

Here are just a few of the problems I will list: one wall of the condo we rented was a giant window. The blind was closed upon entering and it never did get opened and they knew it was malfunctioned BEFORE we entered the unit. So much for the gorgeous mountain views that were advertised!! The hot tub broke after the first day. The company did bring in someone on the 4th day but said it was unrepairable. Ridiculous for a ski chalet when it was intentionally rented for an outdoor hot tub. There were no paper products nor cloths nor soap (including dishwasher tabs) provided and none was delivered. Two of my family got so sick we had to go to urgent care in Cedars. I believe it was hygiene triggered. I am giving it one star because the property manager Mike M did phone me. Also the furnishings were dated/dusty and uncomfortable. The unit certainly had seen better days but the photos in the ad hid all that. As a family we get one ski vacay a year. The chalet ruined it for us this year and compensation of $200 back didn't make it better. How lame is that offering when I paid thousands of dollars.

They let us take out a boat last min so that we could get just a couple hours in seeing as we drove all the way from Las Vegas and bought fishing licenses already and were only in town for the day. The rate was a bit higher than we expected, over $160 for the room. The room was clean, spacious, bright, and nicely designed. One thing I especially appreciated was that the floor was not carpeted. I personally prefer hard flooring, and it made the room feel cleaner and fresher. The bathroom was spotless, and the toiletries were excellent, with a pleasant scent. The shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all nice quality. The staff was friendly and welcoming, and the hotel itself felt clean, modern, and well maintained. The location is convenient for travelers, and although the hotel is close to the highway, we were pleasantly surprised by how quiet it was. Traffic noise was not an issue, and we slept well. Breakfast was included. There were egg bites, bacon, sausage, breakfast potatoes, waffles, cereal, milk, coffee, and juices. The only downside was that breakfast was very busy, and food sometimes ran out quickly, so there could be a short wait for items to be refilled. Our only real complaint was the curtains. They were not blackout curtains, so the room became quite bright as soon as the sun came up. Other than that, everything was great. Clean, comfortable, quiet, and well maintained. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Upon checkin, we retrieved an envelope from an unlocked mailbox with all of our info and room number on the front and keys inside (red flag #1). We cross the street, park the car, and open the envelope on the way to our cozy modern condo..... with two kids in tow. Well, when we opened the envelope we find a note that says "sorry, there was a leak in the condo you reserved so we downgraded you to a 'very uncomfortable old smelly' room". We unlock the door, welcome the 8 year old birthday girl and she bursts into tears. How embarrassing. This room literally looks like a single wide from the 80s. The pool is great but if you're looking for great food, drinks and service- walk/drive across the street to CEDAR BREAKS LODGE/BAR & GRILL. Very unprofessional communication. NO attempt to contact us regarding the room change. No attempt to make it right, nothing. Very very disappointed. However, if this is the place you can afford- do it, and spend all your money at CEDAR BREAKS LODGE ACROSS THE STREET.
