Hidden gem! My fiancee and I had just arrived at Old Forge, trying to find a place to eat. The restaurant was quiet when we arrived, but packed by the time we left! I tried one of their platters- a half rack of ribs with pulled pork. For the sides, I had cornbread, baked beans and macaroni and cheese. It was all phenomenal! My fiancé also did a platter with brisket, pulled pork, garlic bread, baked beans and loaded mashed potatoes. Our waitress was very kind. Food took forever and came out cold. Better to skip this place even though there's not much around.

We wanted ribs so we ordered a slab to share. After delivery I had to go in and ask at the bar for a plate. The waitress was good but she had the whole deck to take care of. Ribs had good flavor but were really tough. No steak knife was given to cut them with which was challenging. Fries and baked beans were ok. Corn bread had no flavor and was small and cold. Mountainside is an absolute gem of the area. Excellent food and lovely people. I travel all over the country for work, and as a vegetarian I've had a lot of veggie burgers. These might just be the best I've had yet. Made in house and you can tell. On top of this, I'm from Wisconsin, and their Mac and cheese is the best I've had since the last time I had my mother's. On our way home from a day of hiking my wife and I discussed what could be better after a cold and yet hike then warm and delicious BBQ. We purposely drove out of our way getting home because the Mountainside Smokehouse & Grill had been on our radar for years. Located right of route 28, their address states it's located in Old Forge but is closer to Inlet in an area called Eagle Bay. Mountainside has a very rustic quintessential Adirondack theme to it. The inside is made through and through with wood and a fantastic wood fire place. The aroma of smoked wood is lightly filling the dining room. We were greeted kindly by our waitress and was given an option where to sit. We picked a table by the back window. A very interesting view from our seat shows their deck that they use in the summer months along with an L shaped old, decapitated one story motel that strangely added a really cool background to the restaurant. As an appetizer I ordered a side salad with their house balsamic vinaigrette. Nice portions and fresh veggies. Always a fan of house made dressing as well! For my entree I ordered the Trail 5 Combo. It came with a choice of 3: pulled pork, turkey, brisket, chicken, or half rack St. Louis ribs. I picked the brisket, chicken and half rack of ribs along with their Mac n cheese and smoked veggies for sides. I have ordered sample platter at many a BBQ restaurants and I got to say that this was the largest portion of brisket I have had on a sample platter! Though I didn't notice a smoke ring I can tell you they were my favorite meat on the tray. Meaty and flavorful with a nice hint of smoke. The chicken was a bit dry but style overall delicious and again, the perfect amount of smokiness to the breast. The ribs were not fall off the bone nor as tender as I normally enjoy them. This was really the only "miss" of the meal but I was so looking forward to them. The smoked veggies which consisted of zucchini and squash were pretty good as was the mac n cheese. The one side that really hit the mark is the one that I totally don't have a photo of for. The smoked beans were fantastic. Three types of beans along with pork was awesome. The smokehouse has three types of house BBQ sauce; original, Sweet and Hot. All three were really tasty but mixing the sweet with the hot was the perfect combination. After a fun but exhausting hike, Mountainside Smokehouse & Grill hit the mark for me. It was the perfect find for my well earned hunger. I would definitely come back again and try one of their smoked meat Sammies along with giving the ribs another shot. read more

Hey yell! 1st impression This place is awesome! Myself and my work partner stopped here to try their food and The food is very very good. The service.... well needs work. This depends on what waitress is working. Met The owner and he was awesome. We come in town two full weeks out of the year. I did not know what time they closed we walked into this place after closing by (10 min) The owner welcome us in and was very good to us. They stayed still we were done eating. We placed a pick-up order for the High Peaks Combo with a full rack ribs, pulled pork, turkey, brisket, or chicken, choice of 4 large sides, 2 corn bread and 2 garlic bread. Decent restaurant. Stopped in in the suggestion of a friend while in Old Forge. Had a good meal. Large helpings, reasonable price, and good service. The vibe is Adirondack all the way. I like the fact that they have outdoor seating, but didn't like that it's close enough to Rte. 28 that we heard a lot of traffic noise. It wasn't as though we had to talk loudly to he heard, but for such a quiet spot - the road nose wasn't great. Our server was attentive and friendly. We shared the poutine. It was tasty and very large appetizer. It was ok for flavor, but not more than that. The meal we shared was pretty great. We had the Lake Effect sandwich. It's brisket, pulled pork, bacon, and cheese on Texas Toast. It was delish! They also have a variety of sauces in the table - I only tried their "sweet" and it was a tasty bbq sauce. Enjoyed dinner here after a long day of hiking the Adirondack Mountains. My boyfriend and I ordered the Fulton Chain Combo, which included basically everything! More than enough food for at least four people! The ribs were tasty and came off the bone nicely, turkey was smoky, brisket was tasty with some fat on the edges, chicken was good though a little dry. The garlic bread was good as was the corn bread. We both loved the baked beans which were quite different than the typical, loved that it had multiple types of beans and great flavor!!! My favorite part of the meal was the beans! The smoked vegetables weren't that great. Good food, great service! My fiance and I had a fantastic dinner here. The moment you walk in you can smell the bbq, a perfect summer vibe. our server was extremely attentive and informative, answering any questions we had. We started with the three cheese fries with spicy ranch- it was yummy and the french fries are freshly cut in house. I had the lake effect sandwich which was incredible! I decided to chose the house salad as my side and chose the bbq thousand island dressing which was delicious! My fiance got a 2 meat platter which was also very tasty. Everything that can be made in house, is, and you can tell that in the best way!! It tastes so fresh. Portions are fantastic for the price. Looking at the menu I was excited to eat here. My son ate a fried catfish sandwich. This was the best tasting food we had. I had the ribs and brisket platter. The ribs and brisket were both dry and had no flavor. The sides were average at best. Mac and cheese and baked beans were average. My wife ordered cream corn as one of her sides and I don't recommend. I did enjoy there homemade barbecue sauces. They have a few flavors and they are all very good. Our waitress was so nice and was very pleasant. Our food took a very long time, over an hour for our food. I would probably skip this place next time we're in Old Forge. read more

This is the worst BBQ I have ever had in my entire life. A shoe would have tasted better. Great waitress, got our food fast and she was very friendly. Food was lukewarm at best, brisket was WAY beyond overdone, pulled pork was ok. Salt potatoes were terrible and the Mac and cheese was noodles with shredded cheese melted on top. Poutine was drowned in canned gravy. Corned bread had no taste whatsoever. Top dollar for horrendous "bbq". Needless to say, we didn't get boxes, I wouldn't feed that to my dog. The food and service at Mountainside is second to none! We had an incredibly indulgent experience here and would have definitely been back then next day if they weren't closed. We were seated quickly and served with drinks soon afterward. We ordered quite a bit of food, and I must say everything was delicious. The half rack of ribs with baked beans and garlic bread (which had a hint of rosemary), the Tip-a-Canoe burger (massive burger with pulled pork and brisket that was cooked to perfection), and last but not least a light and savory blackened catfish wrap. To finish, a mouth-watering and refreshing slice of key lime pie. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, they allowed us to sit outdoors with our cat and made great food suggestions. We were really looking forward to a great barbecue place at the Mountainside smokehouse and Grill. We were sorely disappointed!! The pork ribs were very very tough difficult to cut even with a sharp knife. The beef brisket was dry and over cooked almost an edible. The only bright side of the meal was the mac & cheese. The cornbread was undercooked almost raw! The whole meal was very disappointing. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone in fact I will tell them to stay away. The brisket was cooked perfectly and a choice of sweet, mild or hot house BBQ sauces left room to experiment. I'd encourage the kitchen to experiment with rub flavors during the smoking process to increase the flavor of the meat. It was good, but the sauce was more flavorful than the meat, I prefer the meat to rule that contest. Smoked thousand island dressing on the salad was a neat first time experience with a fresh harden salad. Red onions were overwhelming. Baked beans offered a variety of beans with bacon throughout and were a fantastic side. Corn bread was perfect. Key lime pie was a decent palate cleanser. Heard positive reviews and wanted to stop in and support local business. Sides were very good, but ribs and brisket were not. Ribs seemed over cooked and tough. Would expect these to fall off the bone and could barely cut through them. Brisket was full of fat- seems like fat cap was left on for cooking but not taken off for serving. Place is so nice, I came here twice! As a fan of BBQ it was a delight to see one off of 28. Very clean place, doesn't have the grittiness of smokehouse. The food is the main attraction. The first night I had the ADK combo which is a half rack of St. Louis style ribs, and a choice of pulled pork, 1/4 chicken, or brisket. I chose the brisket. 2 sides, I chose the creamed corn and the mac and cheese. Big portions. Night 2 I had the tip the canoe burger, 1/2 pound burger, brisket, pulled pork, and 3 types of cheese. First time here and the sign in the front window pretty much said it all. "Kitchen Help Wanted".... Had the Adirondack Platter with Ribs and Chicken. The Chicken was very dry and inedible. Ribs were just ok, a bit dry too. Cole Slaw with Blue cheese was good, Mac n Cheese was very cheesy, but you better eat it fast as it congealed quickly. Companion had the wedge with pulled Pork.
