My experience with Bekins was really great. From start to finish everything went smoothly: - My first contact with Jim was nice. He did an estimate and gave me some tips regarding how to prepare my move, - Scheduling the move was easy. I got the day I wanted. - Before the moving I took care by myself of all the important or delicate stuff that I care the most, - On the moving day the movers arrived on time. - The moving crew was great: professional and efficient, they finished all the packing I hadn't done, and disassembled my furniture properly. Then at my new address they put everything where I asked, and reassembled everything. They were taking some small breaks every 2h (which is totally legal and legitimate: I think some other reviewers misunderstood this) - The move took basically the time that had been estimated. I did not have any work done by Bekins Northwest (Move Northwest), but I wanted to share my experience. Today at approximately 3:10 p.m. on 21st St. NE in Lake Stevens, WA, a Bekins Northwest moving truck pulled into our alley while helping a new neighbor move in. At 5:26 p.m., my fiancé came home and sent me a picture showing their truck blocking both our driveway and the neighbor's driveway across the alley. He spoke with one of the workers and explained that I would be home shortly. The worker replied, "No problem. When she gets here, we'll move the truck." When I arrived home at 6:39 p.m., the truck was still blocking my driveway. I got out of my car and politely asked if they could move it so I could pull into my driveway. One of the workers responded, "Can't you wait 20 minutes?" I explained that there was nowhere else to park. He pointed to the middle of the road, I told him, "No, I'm already stopped in the middle of the road." Parking there would have continued blocking through traffic (something their truck had already been doing for hours) and could have prevented other neighbors from getting home. I again asked them to move their truck so I could access my own driveway. So let me get this straight you wanted me to wait another 20 minutes after my driveway had already been blocked for hours and while your truck continued blocking the alley and preventing residents from easily accessing their homes? My issue is not that they were working. I understand people have to move. My issue is how the situation was handled. Blocking someone's driveway for nearly four hours without even the courtesy of knocking on the door to let us know or simply saying, "If you need in or out, just let us know and we'll move the truck," is unacceptable. Then, after being asked politely to move it, I was told to wait another 20 minutes instead of them taking a minute to relocate the truck. The truck finally left around 7:00 p.m., meaning our driveway was blocked for approximately 3 hours and 50 minutes. Better communication, respect for the surrounding neighbors, and basic courtesy would have gone a long way in preventing this frustrating experience. read more

DO NOT HIRE!!! My experience has been absolutely terrible. My stuff was not properly handled/packed and a lot was damaged during the move. I've moved cross country 8 times, always doing it myself, and NEVER had the kind of damage that resulted after hiring these 'professionals'. All along the way, I was incorrect information by multiple employees. I didn't realize at the time that it was incorrect, but I'm being told now by the claims department that it was. Fighting with the claims department and it's been a nightmare. They're refusing to pay even though I paid for full coverage. I'm having to do all this extra work because THEY f*cked up my stuff. I would never recommend this company to anyone. Bekins scratched every single piece of furniture they handled. They ruined our new sleep number bed. It came back stained, with a hole and they broke parts of the bed that hold the frame together. The computer system box that works the bed didn't come back with the bed either. I filed a claim with receipts back in July 2022, it's now January 2023. We payed for 100% coverage for lost or damaged goods. I'm still waiting.. read more

The movers dropped two of our items - a file cabinet and a 50" Samsung TV. We found the piece of the file cabinet in the sidewalk in front of our home after the movers had left and we were leaving. The TV has a huge crack in the corner and no longer works. We sent pictures of the damage inflicted by the movers, but we heard every excuse in the books from their adjuster. They refused to pay anything in compensation. Don't use this company! read more

Don't use this company! It is shocking how much of our furniture they damaged or misplaced. It's even more shocking how dishonest they are when confronted about it. After I filed a claim, they sent out a repair man to validate the damage. Not an unbiased third party. This repair man wrote in his report that all damaged items were either already damaged at the time of pickup, or that he could repair the item. Very convenient for Bekins. Damaged at time of pickup: The most shocking part of this whole experience is that their list of "damaged at time of pickup" does not match the inventory list provided to us at time of pickup where damage is supposed to be noted. Damage to be repaired: When it came to repair solutions, some were fine, and some we disagreed with. One of the repair solutions we disagreed with was to repair our concrete table by drilling in a piece of wood to the corner and finding a paint that is 'close to concrete color'. The choice presented to us was 'fix it this way, or nothing else'. Lost items: Beyond the damage, they lost items too. One of these items was a purple glass vase. Suspiciously, we found broken purple glass in our wrapped leather couch. When presented with the purple glass they said 'it's not here, so you cannot file a claim against it.' Conveniently, they are not accountable for missing items. They will lie directly to you, and when called out on it they will attempt to gaslight and pretend that it's you, the customer, trying to take advantage of them. They are dishonest, they are disrespectful, and I hope this catches up to them before they take advantage of more people. read more

Long story short: Not only did Benkins break and damage multiple items, but they also LOST some of my furniture! Even with their most comprehensive insurance plan, Benkins will not pay for the repair or replacement value of my furniture and housewares. I would have been better off hiring some students from Craigslist. The longer story: Jim, the move consultant, was nice when he came to my home. I signed up for a full service move with Jim, which included Bekins wrapping and boxing my belongings and furniture. The problems all started the day of my move, when the movers refused to protect my vintage furniture, teak walls, and bluestone floors. I asked them to do so several times before moving my furniture, and they refused. I'm normally a complete pushover, but when I watched them scrape my 1960s dining table while moving it out the front door, I had strong words with the movers. The worst of the movers actually replied, "Well, isn't that why you have insurance?" I've never met a more unprofessional and uncaring person. While moving into my new place, the movers gouged several floorboards and walls. My landlord charged me $600 for this damage. I'll spare you the laundry list of all the broken housewares and damaged furniture. But you should know that even if you pay Bekins for a full service move, they will not properly reimburse you for items they damage, break, or LOSE--even if you pay for extra insurance and have receipts. After my move, I called and emailed Bekins dozens of times. Neither Jim nor Amy--the move coordinators--would respond. I finally was able to track down the number of a regional supervisor. I was informed that the problem mover had been fired--great, but that's not going to fix my belongings. It took dozens more calls to initiate an insurance claim. In the end, I was only reimbursed for 10% of the damage they caused, and I'm still missing furniture and some heirloom belongings. I'll be resolving the matter in court. If I had to do it all over again, I would have hired students off of Craigslist. read more

Thanks Jil for the response. Don't bother sending this up the ladder as it's already been done all the way to your corporate office in Indianapolis. My wife and I have worked directly with Todd Embrick, Director of Customer Service, and Chris Banguis, VP of Sales & Marketing. Sadly, these gentlemen kept my miserable experience with Bekins consistent. In their eyes they assisted by offering $150/day each day late, which after 37 days equated to $5550. My contract estimate was $30k, I paid $24k. Bekins "helped me" by waiving my remaining balance. Sounds pretty cool right? Nope, as the $5550 is not being paid out. So when you're owed $5550 and the $6000 is waived, a $450 consideration for a cluster of an experience is an absolute joke. It's obvious you guys are not in the retention business. read more

I was referred to Bekins by a local moving company a friend trusted. Sadly their service did not live up to the recommendation. Their packers were generally fine, but caused some minor damage to several pieces of my furniture. The big issues came because they didn't immediately have a driver for my stuff and needed to put it in their storage facility until they could find someone to deliver it. The driver they finally got crammed my stuff in his truck and unfortunately, didn't take great care ... he disassembled pieces that were not supposed to be disassembled and jumbled my goods with the other loads on the truck. When my goods finally arrived (at the very end of the delivery window), the driver had hired 2 local temps to assist. One had brought his mother because he didn't have a place for her ... I found this out because he asked if it was OK for her to use my bathroom (otherwise she was stuck waiting in the car). The 3 people unloaded my stuff ... with the expectation I would be able track on their inventory form everything coming and going. I noticed a few things that weren't number or were wrongly mixed in the truck, but didn't notice everything (I found out later). After finally getting things in the house, the driver rushed me through signing a bunch of papers to receive my goods. I literally spent 2 days unpacking everything. As noted above, some of the stuff had scratches and dents, but nothing terrible. I did find 2 pieces of art (mostly sentimental value) were missing. I immediately notified the move consultant, who tried to help locate the missing items. When it was apparent those items were not going to be located, I filed a claim. Bekins used the papers the driver rushed me to sign as justification for denying the claim and any issue with their failures. Apparently, I was supposed to track the 60+ items, and movement of 3 people, and deal with the missing inventory numbers. The fact I notified them immediately of the missing items didn't amount to anything. I also regret recommending a buddy of mine who moved a few weeks after me use them ... he ended up having some of his furniture broken. But at least they compensated him for the damage. Bekins knows you aren't likely to move and use their services multiple times, so they don't have to provide good service once the delivery is made. Just another typical greedy company who just wants to get paid. Quick update ... The local Bekins Northwest Team reached out and tried to address the issue. Their corporate decision stood, but they offered to make things right to the extent they could and that was appreciated. Their local people are good and try to do the right thing ... its too bad the parent company doesn't care about customer service. read more

Very professional service - accurate quote. Bekins' crew moved efficiently and safely so that everything was delivered without damage. They obviously knew what they were doing and the team worked well together. I was very impressed. Since our office prepped well, the move took less time and came in under budget. This was a small intra-building move from a bigger office to a smaller one - given the size of the job I didn't think Bekins would be interested or price competitive but they were the best choice! I have used Bekins twice. One for a move to Washington state in 2016 and one when we left Washington state this last summer (2020). Both times, the experience with Bekins Northwest was terrible. Dealing with Bekins in Texas and in Missouri, they were great. it is strictly Bekins Northwest that is horrible. In 2016 when we moved to Washington, the unloading crew did nothing but complain, waste time, and not listen to where things went. There was one guy in the group that was working way harder than everyone else. The worst, however, was our experience with Bekins Northwest in July of this year (2020). They were way off on estimating our weight so it added an extra $1500 to our bill, but then they KEPT OUR BELONGINGS for OVER A MONTH. They refunded us, yes, you guessed it, $1500 for the wait time. (I'll let you make the connection...) When we finally got our stuff, there was a lot of damage. A refrigerator door was broken. Our washing machine was rusted due to poor storage and several other items damaged. We filed a claim and they paid us a whopping $170. DO NOT DEAL WITH BEKINS NORTHWEST. For one, they showed up to the wrong house to move our stuff. That should have been a sign they were incredibly disorganized. Then, they had the wrong drop off MONTH when they confirmed when it would be delivered after taking out stuff - 2 months later than planned. After settling on a date they informed us they are having "driver issues" and it would be a week delayed. Now, they claim the truck broke down and have no ETA when it will arrive. Bekins NW is an absolute disgrace. We scheduled an estimate in May and David came out to go through our items and provide a moving estimate. We received an estimate and we're told the moving pickup date would be June 5th. David disappeared for 10 days and then finally got back to us that they would need to push us a month further forward. to July 5th. We called shortly before the July 5th move date to find out that the local office run by Erica (manager) was unaware of our existence. Our move had not even been submitted into the system. She was able to have our items picked up on July 5th and then she was completely out of contact. We attempted to get a bill of lading and make a payment and the office would not return calls or emails. The movers finally showed up 10 days later in Florida and demanded payment to unload. We provided a credit card number and were charged $2500 more than the estimate provided given the fact the delivery was 29 days later than the estimate stated. The movers showed up with no labor whatsoever and we had to hire local labor to unload the truck for my elderly mother who lives alone. It was the worst experience we have ever had with any type of company in our entire lives. read more

First time using a moving company. A Few words sum up my experience with Berkins Northwest- disorganized, inefficient, dishonest. I was referred to Bekins by the relocation manager at the hospital where i work. Bekins were quick to send a quote. Once i agreed to use them for the move, they became flaky.Emails were usually never attended. You have to call and stay on the line for anything to be done. I had to contact them several times to request for available move dates and times. The COI was provided on the morning of my move after my building management refused access. BTW, I had contacted one of the customer care specialist at bekins (Kim) multiple times the week of my move to request the COI. My order is being delivered later than expected. I pray my order arrives intact.I recommend you don't use this company. However, if you plan on using them, prepare for the stressful days ahead. read more

Moving sucks! I hate it - it's poop on a stick times Gogol.... But! There is a way to mitigate the inherent suckiness of the whole process: Hire someone to help you. We just purchased a condo in the deep, deep hizood. We can just barely afford it if we eat rice in the dark, the last thing I was looking for was one more thing to hemorrhage money at. But the incessant bitching coming from the guy I'm married to over the sense of impending doom he was experiencing inspired me to at least shop around for movers. You see, I had* this 20 ton armoire that was handed down to me by my mother the last time she moved; he couldn't deal with the thought of moving that down the rickety old stairs that led to our duplex and then up to the third floor of the new townhouse. And then there is the crib, and the solid oak hope chest, and the dressers, etc... You get the picture. I was pleased to find that it doesn't cost as much as I thought it would - most of the people I talked to said that it would run me around $500 and it did. I went with Bekins because their guy was the friendliest on the phone. Take notes other mover peoples... You may be wondering why I am giving all these stars to the folks that just did their job right? They moved my shit and I paid them - so what's all the huzzah about? A: I have an antique library desk that has endured several hundred moves - 4 in the past 6 years and that's just the tip of it. There is a little shelf between the legs that should probably have no more than a couple of books on it. But I'm a moron and I have been storing a CPU and a printer there for several years. The thing was splitting off of the legs, bits of wood dropping on the floor below. Very sad. Mover dude fixed it for me. It's good as new. WTF? For free. *B: The aforementioned armoire was too big to negotiate up to our third floor FUCKING AWESOME bedroom suite. The guys called their boss - Paul Bekins (how cool is that?) to come help on the off chance that one more FREE pair of hands would help. Still no go. Sad, but honestly not that sad since it was free to me and it's really not my taste. The upsetting thing was what in the name of all that is over-sized and weighty was I to do with the thing? Paul sat me down on half of my new couch (someday I will address why this was only half of my couch, I'm not ready yet...) and gently told me that there was no way he was going to get that thing to our room. He then told me that he would be happy to haul it away and donate it to a charity he works with that helps struggling families get back on their feet. Sold! He wrote me a receipt and that was it. Bye, bye huge thing I didn't really want anyway! Have a nice life with your new family. C: I like it when the stars are red. So - if you feel like it is worth the money and your sanity to get some movers next time, I highly recommend Bekins. Everyone I talked to and dealt with in person was great - helpful, friendly, generous and very, very good at what they do. read more

My experience with Bekins NW was pretty 'ehh'; probably a 3.5/5 if not for the broken furniture. Jim told me the move would take 5 hours including the driving time, ended up taking 8 because the movers purposefully dragged their feet to stretch the time (since they are paid hourly.) Also, they took a lunch break on my dollar which is specifically noted on the moving guide as something they would NOT do. They also broke my $700 hardwood dining room table. They picked up a piece of the table by the leg and snapped the joint holding it together straight in half. The wood is literally split in half there. The tabletop weighs upwards of 75lbs and I wouldn't feel safe fixing this on my own since the leg is a weight-bearing part of the table. I'm waiting for reimbursement but that doesn't seem likely based on other reviews. I'll update this review if/when the claims process is completed. read more

Start to finish, Bekins has moved all of my belongings and delivered them to our house and we could not be happier with them. Julie Betts was AMAZING with communication with my dozens of emails to her, we had a lot of confusion with our move (on our end, not Bekins) and she was able to help us navigate it and make sure our stuff was safe and would come to us when we were able to accept it. I believe the delivery person's name was Chuck and he was awesome with the delivery of our things. I'm so not used to people showing up when they say they will so I've been blown away by Bekins not only being on time, but being a smidge early. The best part of this move? The one that concerns us all when we are arranging for the transport of our worldly belongings? Bekin's came in UNDER budget. When they gave me their quote the sales guy Jim Dessin made a speech to me about how this was the max it would cost but could cost less depending on his estimate of the weight of our stuff and the actual weight. I heard him say this and I thought in my head, "yeah right... there's no way it will cost me less". Well, guess what? IT DID. Almost 20% less than their original quote to me. I never expected that one, they could have easily charged me more and never told me my things weighed less but they are honest and only charged me for the weight of my things. All in all, I would hire this company again for moving. They did a great job for a VERY reasonable fee. All the people who I communicated with from this company were very professional and helpful. We used Bekins for a long distance move from Seattle to California. Everything went fine on pickup day. The problems happened with drop off. The delivery driver did not hire any helpers for the delivery. He stated he was not able to find anyone to help, which seemed odd to us since we live in a major metropolitan area with several million residents. He arrived around noon for the delivery. Since one person would never be able to unload and assemble all our large furniture, I had to take the day off work to help him. Several items were not assembled by the evening but we needed to eat dinner and go to sleep so we told the driver to leave and we assembled things over the next few days. There was also substantial damage to several furniture items, with scratches and corners broken off. We informed the van line (Wheaton World Wide Moving) about the delivery issues and they did not seem to care. Very poor customer service experience. Steer clear. read more

If I could give this company 0 stars I would. First let me say I used Bekins in 2015 and had a very good experience with them which is why we used them again moving. We paid over $6,000 for Bekins to take care of our items in transport from WA to AZ and they DID NOT do that. Many of my items showed up broken, MISSING, and had damage and did not arrive on time. 2 months later we finally get a check for $870 a third of what we lost for our items and what I have had to pay to get new items. I am extremely SICKENED with their customer service and how they handled my claim. The driver NEVER did a check off list (one was done when we moved the first time) and the claims lady says we should of known when they dropped our stuff off, how is it okay that we get punished for them not doing their job?The driver also asked my husband why we were moving to Arizona because it's a s***hole and how much he hated it. He was extremely rude and not very gentle with our stuff. I spent a lot of money for them to move us and take care of my items that I had already paid a lot of money for to begin with. I will never ever recommend Bekins for moving. They are not providing good customer service let alone they do not care about your stuff or how much you paid them to move you they only care about getting your money. I had a decent, but not issue free experience with Bekins. First the good: - The weight came in well under the estimate (which was already the lowest of 5 quotes I received) so the ultimate cost was considerably lower than expected. - My belongings arrived very quickly - on the 2nd day of the 12 day window I was quoted. The driver on the receiving end was very friendly and helpful and arrived right on time. - I dealt with the home office a lot and everyone there was helpful and friendly. They could do a better job of proactive communications though. I felt I had to reach out to them to figure out what was going on, rather than the other way around. Now the Bad: - On the pickup, I was told the crew would arrive in late morning or early afternoon. I reserved my building's elevator until 4 PM assuming I'd be safe even if they didn't arrive until 2 PM. I waited and waited with no proactive communication from the home office (I called them about 8 times during the day). I was pretty certain they weren't going to come, but finally the crew arrived at 7 PM! This put me in a very tight spot with my building, essentially forcing me to beg the front desk to let me use the elevator after hours. From there it took almost 2.5 hours to inventory and load just 2000 lbs of stuff. The team was friendly, but not the most efficient. - On the pickup, the crew's dolly chipped a decent sized chunk out of the drywall in my apartment. I've not submitted a claim yet, but don't have high hopes it will be paid based on other reviews - On dropoff the crew broke a panel off of my dresser when lifting it. Sure, it's a relatively inexpensive pressboard dresser, but it only broke due to them lifting a 150 lb dresser from a piece of wood 2 inches wide. Again, I have not submitted a claim, but don't have high hopes. - When unpacking a dresser, we discovered a random shoebox full of trash (empty juice bottles, food wrappers, etc.) taped up and stuffed inside one of the drawers. When the dresser left our possession it was fully saran wrapped (by me) so the drawers never should've been opened. Not only was it clear they had been opened, but clothes had been moved between drawers (in my Fiance's underwear drawer no less) which was pretty unsettling. Nothing appears to be missing, but there's no reason the drawers ever should've been opened. - A lot of our boxes were completely smashed up on arrival. It was clear they'd been thrown around A LOT between when they left my possession and when I received them. Boxes marked "FRAGILE" all over were the most damaged of the bunch, and multiple wardrobe boxes (very sturdy boxes) were completely caved in, with the hanging clothes in them all having fallen off their hangers. Quite frankly, the condition of my boxes upon receipt was unacceptable. Period. But because of the fact that nothing was actually broken due to me shrouding EVERYTHING in bubble wrap, blankets, and pillows, I'm not going to ding Bekins too hard for it. It easily could've gone the other way though. In summary, Bekins was the low bidder and so they got my business, but you get what you pay for. You'll read horror stories about every moving company out there, Bekins is no different, however I'd say overall my experience was fine, but far from amazing. If doing it over again, I'd consider Bekins, but they've certainly not won a loyal customer through this experience. read more

I would implore anyone considering hiring this company to look elsewhere. We had a major household goods move intra-state last year, and it could mostly accurately be described as an abject disaster. Consider: * the loading was scheduled for one day. It was completed in four days of sheer chaos which included the driver being rushed by ambulance for an in-patient hospital stay after falling off his truck. * who is in charge of the actual move? Who knows, when Bekins is managing the event? The driver showed up on time, but had no loaders available, so he hired essentially local vagrants to load all of our goods on the truck. Expensive, brand new items were loaded onto the truck, and after the vagrants badly damaged these items, the driver then inventoried the items as damaged. Get it? They ruin the items themselves, and then inventory the items as already ruined, which absolves them of responsibility. Over the four days it took Bekins to load our goods, the driver hired out nearly a dozen different loaders who showed up at random hours of the day. And none of them actually worked for Bekins, and so felt no obligation whatever to listen to the driver's loading instructions. At one point, I tried to restore sanity by having the driver talk by phone with the Bekins agent who set up the move, but the conversation quickly ended with the driver cursing out the agent and hanging up. He was under such immense stress to complete the loading that on day 4, he slipped off a loading ramp and cracked his skull open, requiring an emergency trip to the hospital. Our goods were left unattended in a local parking lot for a day until Bekins sent a new driver the following day. No one at Bekins had any idea of this, because no one working for Bekins remained on site after the driver was ambulanced away. The entire 4 day evolution was akin to sheer chaos. * I paid for full, comprehensive insurance to cover our move. The Bekins claims adjuster laughed in my face at 90% of what was claimed as damaged, which amounted to many thousands of dollars. How do they get away with it? Because movers operate under federal laws, not state, and so suing them requires taking them to federal court. Best of luck with that! We had a very large move to tackle, and had hundreds of boxes and items to inventory. It is simply impossible to verify the inventory, as tagging and loading the items happen at a rate which prevents careful verification. You cannot keep track of the loading unless you accept slowing the loading and unloading to a crawl, which would take at least a few weeks. Imagine dozens of sheets of inventory, each with dozens of line items designating your individual goods, and a hieroglyphics of random letters and numbers that denote their condition, all itemizing your goods as they are loaded by half a dozen random people from various areas of your house. Good luck keeping track of and deciphering that in less than a year. So Bekins has a racket here, throwing your items on their truck and preventing the customer from making sure the inventory is actually correct, but you still have to sign the inventory under a severe time restraint in order to proceed with the move. If there is an attorney looking for a major class action lawsuit to slap down onto a truly awful company, may I suggest Bekins Northwest? They use federal statutes to keep themselves virtually impervious from lawsuits by their clients, they take advantage of severe time restraints and impossible inventories to force signatures that guarantee they get away with incredibly poor service, signatures they then use to deny claims for the damage they did to any goods they please. The fraud they perpetuate must add up to millions of dollars. read more

Bekins helped us move from Bothell to Salt Lake City and we couldn't be more pleased with how the move went! The movers at both origin and destination were friendly and efficient and had us loaded in 3hrs and unloaded in barely 2! All of our furniture and loose items were wrapped in shrink wrap and padding and we arrived with all of our belongings intact, no lost or damaged items at all! Very unhappy with the customer service after the move: We hired Bekins NW to handle our double move. From our Bellevue home to a Seattle apartment and our Bainbridge home. The two crews were different with the Bainbridge crew being great and the Seattle crew being bad. We had a dining table that was dropped on its side and got damaged and several things break inside a bigger box. The move happened in September 2014. Even though I contacted my sales person right away with my damage claim, I got tons of excuses explaining why nothing was being done blaming peoples schedules and other lame excuses. Finally on April 2nd, I heard back from a VP saying that they were working on my claim and that it was being processed. They claim that they credited my account before they charged my card, but that is not the case. Today, April 15th, almost 7 months after the move , I am still waiting. I would stay away... read more

Working with Bekins has been one of the most frustrating and dissatisfying experiences we have ever been through. The entire process was not what was sold to us at the beginning and nothing has been done to remedy the situation. The staff were unprofessional and incredibly unhelpful this entire time. The start of the moving day was terrible. We called our dispatcher to see what time the movers were supposed to be at our house, as we had been promised they would be there by 8am, because we were planning on leaving town in the afternoon and already had a hotel booked 7 hours away. She told us the movers had just left. We called back an hour later because the movers were not there yet and she told us they had to make a drop off and would be there at 9:30am. We called back at 10:30 and she told us they were still at the drop off and she didn't know when they would get to us but said "I will have the driver call you when he is on his way". This communicated to us that she had no further interest in helping us with this. She never apologized or she NEVER called us to give us updates. We ALWAYS had to call Bekins. The movers finally got to our house at 12:30pm and were not prepared. We had already called our sales representative and he assured us that they would move quickly to get us out. The movers were slow and at one point were watching videos on their phone instead of moving. We finally got out of town at 5pm and still had to travel 7 hours with an infant. During the week we requested updates on the status of of move and were informed that it was still in Seattle a week later. We finally got information on the driver and when he would pick it up. The driver came to Nashville and we discovered that our stuff was all over the moving truck (not separated by false walls as we were promised). There were things of ours that did not even get inventoried, but luckily we were able to find throughout the truck. We finally got everything moved in, but as we were unpacking noticed that an entire box of ALL of our coats were missing as well as a comforter that was on our guest bed. These boxes were never inventoried and therefore we did not know they were missing until we unpacked. We called our dispatcher who was very unhelpful and did not even know how to fill out the claims form (she couldn't even remember the name of the form). We called our sales rep again who said "I will get a couple of heads to look for it in the warehouse". But we have not heard back and its been over a week. We are devastated to lose all of our coats as well as collected sports teams scarves (We were season ticket holders to the MLS Seattle sounders and those scarves are gone now). We still have NEVER had ANYONE from Bekins call us direct, we have ALWAYS called them first. We are now in the process of filling a claim, but our expectation is not high given this whole ordeal. We are never recommending Bekins to anyone. We thought hiring movers would make this easier, but it has turned out to be one of the most stressful experiences. And no one has every apologized for putting us through this. We are aware that things don't always go as planned, but this is not what we paid for and Bekins should be ashamed of how they handled this entire process. read more

They blocked the entire one way street into my neighborhood with their truck and refused to let anybody by. The police had to come and forced them to reposition their truck so people could get to their homes. They could have stayed to one side and people would have been able to drive by without a problem but they refused to do so until police officers forced them to. read more

I'm leaving a positive review for Bekins even though I never bought their service. Why? On June 30 I found out that the other moving company I had booked wasn't going to show up. I was pretty panicked, here I was on the last day of the month with no movers and no plan. Thee other company was unsympathetic and unhelpful. But in my desperate search i was lucky to run into some Bekins employees who, although they themselves were booked solid and extremely busy, still took the time to help me find someone who could help me move at the last minute. My husband and I recently bought a new home in the area. Even though it was a local move the configuration of our old home (three floors) and the sheer volume of the boxes we packed drove us to contract with a moving company. Bekins did a great job moving us in less than nine hours from start to finish and they did it with a smile and minimal damage. Overall here is what we most appreciated: in home estimation of the move cost, information regarding typical moving concerns provided, clear and detailed instructions provided regarding what to expect them to move and what to move ourselves, point of contact for pre and post move concerns, reasonable overall cost, a moving team which conducted their business with integrity, good nature, and care. Moving is stressful, some stuff will get damaged no matter how carefully it is handled. At the end of the day we felt that our team cared about taking good care of us and this was a huge stress reliever. We hope to never move again but if we do, we will be contacting Bekins. read more

This has been the worst moving experience my husband and I have ever had; I'm in tears at the lack of customer service and failure to consider how a lack of honesty and consideration affects people's livelihood and everyday life. Never use Bekins Van Lines for moving. My husband and I arrived in NYC, picked up our keys today and were ecstatic about our new apartment until we called the moving company. We are moving from Seattle and we are guaranteed delivery by this Saturday but were told our items would be here today. After numerous calls, we found out that the moving truck has not even left Seattle AND our merchandise has not even been packed up in the long-distance truck. They moved us out on AUGUST 27th!!! We have been checking in since our move-out and at no point did they inform us that they had not left Seattle; we were consistently told everything was on time. I'm so disappointed and have no idea when our stuff will get here... let's hope before winter. When we call, the move-in coordinator always says "I'm trying to reach the truck/dispatcher." It's been about 4 days, and now we just believe it's fraud and they have no intention of honoring the contract. My husband doesn't even have his sport coats/dress pants for his first day of work on Monday! This is severely disappointing. We signed a lease thinking we would move-in when they promised. Now, we are paying for an apartment we can't live in and Bekins knew our timeline. We had other estimates that were lower, and would have had our shipment here before this Monday, but Bekins fooled us with all of their guarantees. Today, we sit in the lobby of our apt. bldg, while Bekins hasn't honored anything they agreed to do and won't tell us where our merchandise is. I've moved quite a bit for school, work.... I've done local, interstate, and now, across border from Seattle to Vancouver, which was the largest & the most complicated of all my past moves, yet thanks to these guys, it was THE BEST MOVING EXPERIENCE EVER!!! I had two 10x15 storages full of furniture & boxes, one down by the water front, and another one up in Lynnwood, and a refrigerator picked up from a house on Capitol Hill (one of those typical Capitol Hill houses with lots of steps and narrow walk paths across the front yard etc) And they needed to be sorted for delivery to storage and my house. Jon Warner came out to do the initial survey & estimate. He was very courteous, answered all my stupid questions, and went through everything very thoroughly. He gave me a "binding estimate" which came in much much better than a few other long-distance moving companies. Julie Betts did all the paperwork for the Canadian customs & organized the schedule. She was awesome & also very thorough, which really helped out at the border. The driver came with every possible paperwork, so when the customs agent asked for some unusual & random form, he had it. And the movers.... WOW!!! Two guys showed up punctually on the pick up date. I was worried as I have some really big pieces of furniture & heavy items. But, Rob was deceivingly strong and extremely careful! Every time I moved, no matter how careful the mover said he was, there was always a moment or two when I quietly freak out because they banged a dresser or dropped a box... but not this time. Pat was the driver who came all the way up here, and he did such a great job with the inventory that the customs agent took one look at his papers and started stamping away. Pat had to pick up a local guy to help unload, which worried me a little bit, but, his local partner turned out to be great. Also deceivingly strong and extremely careful. The guys got the work done a lot quicker than I thought and never once complained or even frowned, which was amazing. They delivered 3 days after pick up, a lot sooner than the estimated delivery date. Also, I paid the exact same amount that was on the original estimate I signed, and didn't have to pay for any extra service, any of their mistakes or delays. I actually went over on the weight by a few hundred pounds, but as Jon promised, the "binding estimate" protected me, so I didn't have to pay extra. I cannot say enough nice things about this company and the people who work there! I have already recommended them to a friend who's moving in March, my realtor back in Seattle, and the storage manager who gets asked for moving company recommendations all the time. We used Bekins NW to pack and move our household from Sammamish to Bellevue before Thanksgiving. We also used their storage facility in Mountlake Terrace to store about 1/4 of our household items since we were moving into a smaller place for a year. We were referred to the account manager, Jim, by my husband's coworker at Microsoft. We chose Bekins because they are a larger company that has storage facilities so it seemed to make more sense logistically to go with a company that could handle everything for us rather than find a storage facility and movers separately. We also chose them because we got a Prime Passport "discount". What a mistake! They gave us an estimate of $4100 for packing and moving and charged us $5000 (at first tried charging us $6000). The told me that $105/month would be my storage fee but charged me $150/month. No explanations until I followed up several times in the course of 2-3 weeks. They tried to blame it on me rather than their ineptness at estimating. Below are the grisly details. We received a quote that seemed reasonable to us--about $3900 to pack and move our items in storage, with a monthly storage fee of $180/month. A couple of days later, we got another quote for the move, this time for $4100 and $105/month storage due to having to use more movers and two trucks and working a deal with the storage facility manager to get the storage fee down to $105. It still seemed reasonable to me to use more movers and do this quickly since the townhouse complex was very small and tight. In hindsight, this change was a red flag that I ignored because of the perceived convenience of a whole package move with storage (plus who doesn't like the idea of a lower storage fee?). Jim was not the most responsive person or detail oriented, which was also another red flag. For instance, I emailed him several questions, but both times, it took him several days to respond. Or he would respond after prompting from his office administrator, Amy, and would come back with an excuse about how the server was down so he couldn't send me email. Amy answered most of my questions promptly and I proceeded with Bekins. If the military and Seahawks used them, why shouldn't I? The packers and movers were from Olympic Moving and Storage in Federal Way, a Bekins affiliate. The packers and movers did a great job and were moving at a fast and efficient pace. I could not fault them in anyway (well, except some furniture assembly mistakes but that is not their specialty). On the first day, 3 packers came and packed my household. Then they left with the storage items. On the second day, they moved the rest of the items to our townhouse rental. Then I got the bill. The moving supervisor tallied up the bill and told me that I owed them ~$6000! This was after I received a second quote for $4100. I called the Bekins office up and Amy talked to the supervisor. The re-tallied the bill and it got down to ~$5000. This is much better than $6000 but that is still about $900 more than I was expecting to pay. I did pay it because by that time, I was just done with the move and had two young kids that wanted dinner, and the movers still needed to get back to Federal Way. (I didn't know this at the time, but by law, I only had to pay 110% of the estimate at that time, and they could have billed me for the rest. ) After Thanksgiving week, I emailed Jim and Amy and asked them to review my bill to make sure that everything was OK. I also wanted to know why the bill was about 20% above the estimate. We had not added any items to the house since getting the estimate. Also, I wanted to confirm that the storage cost was still going to be $105/month since the moving cost was so high. Amy immediately responded that Jim would get back to me, and that my storage fee was still $105/month. A week later, I get a notice that they want to charge my credit card a monthly storage fee of $150 rather than $105. I asked about this and they told me that Jim would get back to me. I followed up on this a couple of times in the span of 2-3 weeks. No response. Finally, I followed up again and Jim said he would get back to me the next day. Didn't happen. Another person, Julie, finally responded to me after sitting down with Jim and the General Manager. According to them, I had more stuff than they had estimated, hence it took more time to pack and more boxes were used. And there were more items in storage than estimated (despite my moving several large items that were in the storage estimate to my parents' backyard such as our long sit on top kayak). So, yes, all the higher costs were justified since those items were just estimates. What, you are not happy with the communications and our answer? This is the second time we have used Bekins to move. They were a little more expensive (approx 800) to pack so we used another company, huge mistake... that wont be happening again. Curt came out and gave us our quote, we switched things around a couple of times and he was pretty easy to communicate with. He made it easy to deal with. I cant remember the office ladies name, Jill, Julie? she was great to deal with also. The driver, Pat and his crew, they called themselves the "Samoans" because we couldnt pronounce the names lol ...all took great care loading our belongings in the truck, everything was wrapped, blanketed and strapped. when they unloaded everything was put in the rooms it was labeled for, they set up the furniture and moved the heavy stuff around. i couldnt ask for a better experience, they were on time, respectful and very courteous and actually funny as heck. We even bought them lunch. i will for sure recommend this company again, and if i move again , they will pack also. read more
