Waited on us quickly in the bar area despite the large group. Once inside, the large luxury leather seats were fabulous. Small "trey" style table at each chair that swiveled for easy eating. Little lights to press so waiter would know you wanted to order. The food was as good as any CHILI'S or Applebee's. Plenty of burger and sandwich options with salads as well. Extremely disappointed in our experience on Christmas Eve at Movie Tavern. We booked a 7:00 showing of Avatar in the 3D cinema. When we all walked in, it was freezing inside! This night was during the freeze, so it was approximately 20 degrees outside and nearly just as cold inside!! We reluctantly went inside and begin watching the movie and I finally got so cold that I went to ask an employee what was going on. He responded " We have it turned up all the way." He didn't seem to be concerned whatsoever, although, he was cleaning up alone on Christmas Eve. After about 2 1/2 hours in we decided to leave. I've debated writing this review however, I think we should've been warned beforehand, or at the very least given the options to stay or for a refund or reschedule at a different time! This was a deal-breaker for us after spending over $100 for tickets, food, and drinks. Not sure if we will be back. Very nice place! We will never go to a regular theater again. It's nice to not have to wait at a concession stand. The food is great and you can get a full meal and wine, etc! My favorites are the monte cristo wrap, the pecan chicken salad and the nachos libre.Yum! My son loves the desserts! You can also just get concession items. Comparing this to Canal Place Theaters in New Orleans is the only place I think I can compare it to, as that is the most similar concept in the area. Unlike Canal Place Theaters, you don't have to fight traffic to get to it, you don't have to pay for parking, the ticket prices here are far more reasonable, and the food prices are far more reasonable. The adult beverage list is a little cheaper or about the same price for the most part. The seats are larger, as are the actual theaters. Even though I live in a suburb closer to New Orleans, and this is a longer drive, I seriously think its quicker to get to this movie theater than to Canal Place. I came with a group of friends to see the newest IT. We were promptly in and sitting in the comfortable theater. Parking was very easy. One of my friends had pre-purchased the tickets, and all we had to do was show the passes on the phone to the ticket taker, and we were allowed in, after the ticket taker had given us menus. Once we were seated, we had time to look at the menu. There was quite the variety to choose from. Seriously, like an American burger restaurant. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, which would put Chick-Fil-A to shame with its yumminess. I did not get a picture of the sandwich because the movie had already started. The fries were nice and thick. All of my friends loved their food as well. The popcorn was a LARGE serving, which is plenty for everyone. My main complaint was that the service was SO slow. I'm not sure if the call button works, as I had pressed it and had to wait 20 minutes and flag someone down to ask for a beverage refill. We went Monday night. Our son ordered a milkshake. Waitress told us no milkshakes; machine is broken. We said, "That's the same thing you told us last time we were here." She said, "Yeah, it's been down a while. We were making them with a handheld mixer, but we're not doing that anymore." Son orders an ICEE instead & the chip-n-dip sampler. The rest of us decide to split a large bucket of popcorn, so she says, "Since y'all are sharing the popcorn, I'll bring you a couple of small bags." Ok, cool. The popcorn arrives. We asked for the bags to split up the popcorn. Several minutes later, the chip-n-dip sampler arrives. AGAIN, we asked for bags for popcorn. 40 minutes later, our son had long finished his sampler platter, still no ICEE. We buzz the staff and explain he never got his ICEE & we never got bags for our popcorn. He brings the ICEE. We say, "She offered to give us a couple bags for the popcorn too." He says, "Ok I'll be right back with them." Never came back. We never saw anyone again until the bill arrived at the very end of the movie. read more

The theater is a great theater with great concept just bad execution. Staff is friendly and the theaters are very clean and spacious. However, The food is god awful and overpriced. After paying $25 to see the movie, we spent $21 on one pizza that appeared to be a personal sized pizza and one glass of lemonade. The pizza was very very bland and opposite of what a pizza should taste like. This is my 2nd experience with bad food here and I ordered different things each time... all bad. We've always loved this place! There's nothing like this venue in our area, so we were excited when they moved in. You get to choose your seats, so you don't have to worry about getting to the theater early to wait in line. The menu is pretty large and includes entrees, appetizers, desserts, smoothies and alcohol. The food used to be exceptional, now I would call it mediocre. I also ordered a margarita which was about 60% tequila with barely any flavor. The movie was good and the seats were comfortable though, service was also good. This time when I went I got the cheeseburger and a Sangarita swirl. The burger was mediocre and the fries were lukewarm. The drink was good for the first 6 or 7 sips, then it melted after 5 minutes and tasted like 50% sour and 50% tequila, safe to say I'll never order food or drinks there. Everytime I'm in Covington with my boyfriend and his family, we visit the Movie Tavern. It's a mainstay of our trips to Louisiana. That being said, it is so pricey (pricey being an understatement) for what you are paying for. I will say that the staff is always very kind and attentive, more so than any other movie theater staff I've experienced. The food is good, I would say yummy even, but be prepared to $50+ everytime you go. My bill at the end had two appetizers and two sodas, and I ended up paying $49. I'm still in shock over that fact. Overall, you're paying so much for a mediocre meal. So I leave it to your judgment if you want to shell out over $50 for the food alone. read more

What happen? This used to such a nice theater. None of the kiosks worked, only one employee at the counter, and there's a line of people trying to buy tickets but the movie showtimes on the screen is broken. I asked the manager if there was any other way to check in for tickets bought online and he says "I know but, I can't do anything". The food is not the same quality as it used to be and really tastes bad. How about keeping your business in top shape and making sure everything works and when there's a problem, address it instead of running to the back and hiding. There's a few reasons why I only rated Movie Tavern 3 stars, but go there at least once a month. The movies used to be enjoyable, reasonable, and fun. With movie tickets soaring to a $15 price point it's hard to enjoy going with the whole family, especially if you're set on eating & drinking at the theater, which is the perk of Movie Tavern. The reasons below are why I'm okay with going once a month, and also why it sucks going once a month: 1) TUESDAY DEALS: Every Tuesday they have $5 movie + free popcorn night. This is the only time I ever see myself at Movie Tavern other than a must see movie. The popcorn is ready on a table to grab and get to your seat. Make sure to book this as soon as they allow, popular movies WILL sell out on Tuesdays, or you'll have to choose seats up against the screen! 2) Choosing where you sit. What a convenience! You can arrive when you want to and you can sit in your favorite area (provided you buy your tickets in a timely manner!). The seats are pretty comfortable, I usually sit crosslegged in them for ultimate comfort. 3) Parking: one word - SUCKS. Even if you get there early you're going to probably park closer to the driving school than the movie theater. The plus side is Applebee's is now closed, so you can utilize their parking spaces as well. Like another reviewer said, it's poorly lit, and people kind of park wherever they'd like to. There are a bunch of spots people take that really aren't spots, but are a good way to get your car crunched. 4) Food: Expensive...meh quality. I've eaten at Movie Tavern PLENTY of times. It's pretty much typical bar food, with less quality. If you're coming here for the food - DON'T. Bring in a sandwich or some tacos of your own to watch with your movie (I'm pretty sure I should say this isn't allowed, but everyone does it, right?). 5) Drinks: If you like beer you can purchase their enormous movie tavern mug filled to the brim with what's on tap (usually a few great choices) and then bring it back anytime you return to fill it for cheaper. Mostly I enjoy the cheap movie experience of the $5 Tuesday with water & lemon & free popcorn! Be ready for the McDonald's reality check of, "our shake machine is broken". 6) Sound in the normal theaters SUCKSSSSSS. I could hear my boyfriend chewing next to me (EW) during some of the loudest points in the movie. The MTX theaters are where it's ATTTTT!! Basically the only way coming to Movie Tavern is reasonable is when you're buying $5 tickets, getting free food, and have some additional snacks in your purse or pocket! Enjoy your movie! Ordered a "Tavern Tea". I think this is their take on Long Island Iced Tea. Bartender, young lady, said "This is my first day so be nice..." I watched in horror. Some clear jar came from under the cabinet area with what looked like formaldehyde in it. Yellow, oily, dangerous. She said "I'm supposed to pour an eight-count of this" and proceeded to count to eight in exactly 2.8 seconds. It was "onetwothreefourfivesixseveneight". Less than three seconds of embalming fluid into the beaker. Then she added roughly a quart of industrial strength lemonaid (pH of 1.5) leaving room for a tiny squirt of Coke on top. The job now complete, she slid it across the bar and stepped back, as one might do after lighting a stick of dynamite. It was quite horrible, and should have carried a hazmat symbol. I feigned a phone call and should have received an EPA citation for dumping it on a patch of innocent Covington soil. Forgive me Earth. I won't be back to the bar if I see her working. We love going to the movie tavern but tonight's visit was off par for several reasons...it was a sold out movie for the Downton Abbey movie and it took them 15-20 mins to get us our drinks after the food was delivered...they brought us the bill as usual in the last 15 mins of the movie, well the waitstaff starts clearing tables at that last 15 mins! My new favorite place for date night! Dinner and a movie is harder than you think these days, lines on Friday and Saturday night make eating before the show dicey and after is too late. Movie Tavern is the perfect solution. The food doesn't break any ground as far as high cuisine goes, but it is diverse enough that you don't feel like you are limited to burgers or pizza. Some reviewers have commented on price. The prices are, IMHO, in line with other casual dining chains and ridiculously cheap compared to the absurdity that is other movie concession stands. $3.95 seems steep for a soda, but when it is compared to five or six dollars for a large at other theatres, that shock gets moderated quickly. The service is excellent considering how recently they opened. I have been three times now and each time I had a smiling and helpful waitperson who was responsive to my needs without being intrusive into my movie experience. The auditoriums are clean and the seating is comfortable and not too close together. If I had one complaint, it's that I wish they would expand their breakfast offerings beyond the 9am showings on Saturday and Sunday. My wife and I went to see a 10:30am showing on a Saturday last month and the only option was the lunch menu. Lastly, Two of the three times we have been was to take out 8 year old to see a kids movie. This place is great for kids, but I love that Children under 16 are required to be with an adult. this makes for a much more enjoyable experience. read more

The tickets are a little bit cheaper or fairly priced than those other cinema chains (discounts for senior, military, and the young'ns). Cons? The menu is deceiving. It's not.The food reminds me of cafeteria food - rubbery chicken, jalapenos that have maybe been sitting in the salad bar tray for just a little longer than they should, and fries that would make the originating potato ashamed of what he/she has become. And the food is expensive! I ordered a "California chicken sandwich" or something of that nature, which was about $11. Oh yeah, and a fish-bowl sized soda for $5. So, all in all, $16 to eat a meal that I regretted immediately, an urge to pee every 3 seconds of the film, and, oh yeah, don't forget to tip your server. Also, the whole...eating in the complete darkness is kind of a pain in the groin. They could at least leave on some dim lighting. And for the people who complain? Go to Carmike/Regal, or go home and get a movie from Redbox and eat in the complete darkness by yourself. Went today for the first time. Not impressed. Took at least 20 minutes for someone to answer after we pressed the button for service. Then probably another 20 minutes to get what we requested. Even a drink refill took that long. It's a long time when you kid is thirsty. Ended up going out to the lobby looking for a drinking fountain during the movie. The food was decent, so that was nice. Typically overpriced as most movie theaters are, but not outrageous. Paid with cash and when my change was brought, the server only brought back the bills portion of my change. No idea where the .82 went. Not that I'll miss .82, but it's the idea that they just keep all the coin change from everyone. Wow. Probably adds up at the end of the day. First, I would not have rated The Movie Tavern highly to begin with because the food is not even on par with Applebee's, which is "Meh," at best, yet even more expensive. I normally wouldn't expect much from dinner from a movie theater, but there are so many places that manage to do it so much better than The Movie Tavern. But, what really sinks the rating for this place is the terrible customer service. We went to see Star Wars: The Force Awakens at a 7:10pm showing. At no time during the purchase of our tickets, while ordering our food, or at any point were we informed that they would stop serving food (the one thing that makes this theater different than the others in the area) 15 minutes into the movie. When we tried to order popcorn and drinks halfway into the movie, we were informed, for the first time, that they had closed the kitchen early. To make matters worse, when I spoke to the Manager on Duty after the movie ended, he was unapologetic and rude. From now on, we will avoid The Movie Tavern. read more

I'm changing my review of this Movie Tavern. A few months ago they change the menu so the food they now serve, I can't eat due to diet restrictions. They used to have a great local craft beer selection but that has also been changed. I always thought it was great to come in, watch a movie and enjoy a good craft beer. Man... I really wanted to like this place. But they just did everything so wrong... As with other dine-in theatres, you pick your seats when you purchase your tickets, and it's usually a bit more costly since you're paying for the experience. My SO and I came with his uncle and cousin to see Mockingjay Pt 1. We were both starving after running around town all day and couldn't wait to get our food. We all ordered together (just separate checks). Our drinks came out and then....nothing....we got over halfway through the movie before I pressed my button to ask the waiter where our food went. Poor kid couldn't have been older than 20 and was flabbergasted that our food didn't magically appear. According to him, our order never got to the kitchen so he retook our order and tried to expedite this. What I didn't like is we had to have this conversation while the movie was going on. When we did finally receive our food, it was stone cold. I was so hungry, I didn't even care at that point; I scarfed it down, even though it wasn't even what I ordered. When leaving the theatre, I see food sitting in the hallway that looks exactly like what I was supposed to get. It was just a mess. Even after that, all we got was an apology from the waiter; no money taken off our check for the inconvenience, nothing. I'm sorry, I'm not looking for a handout, but considering the rest of our family was done eating and had dessert by the time we thought enough was enough is a huge issue. I'm not a patient person, but I understand things happen; it's all about the guest recovery tools you use to ensure your guest leaves nothing but happy. As far as watching a movie goes it is great. Nice comfortable seats, sound it fine and the picture quality is fine. The food on the other hand is awful. The fried mozzarella is just nasty, they would do better buying bags of fried mozzarella at Sam's. The marinara that comes with them is the consistency of water mixed with red food coloring. Fandango was less than useless in regards to getting a refund. I will never use their services again. But Once I called Movie Tavern in Covington, I was given the number at Corporate. I called Corporate, left a voicemail on Dan's extension, got a call back within a few hours. After some inevitable phone tag (not their fault - I was at work) I spoke with Dan and he credited my card right over the phone. Verdict: we will go to the Cov Movie Tavern again. The theater was clean and lovely. The staff were all informative, professional, attentive and courteous, but the price was too high for the low food quality. Dinner and a movie for my husband and I came to almost $70 (and he got the senior citizen discount!) Hubby liked the pickle chips, but our cheeseburgers tasted mostly like cheap filler (soy?) and the fries were stale. Drink refill took a LONG time to come. I really enjoy the upscale movie going experience that this place offers to include choosing your seating ahead Of time to avoid having to sit away from friends. The cost isn't too much more than some of the other theaters in the area but it is the only place on the northshore that offers a movie with food and drinks. The wait staff seems to be very competent or at least that is what I have observed on my previous trips here. The food is pretty good here and so are the mixed drinks which is nice if you are wanting to find a place for date night. The chairs are very comfortable and there is a lot of table space for your food and drinks. The one downside is that I wish they would post their single run movies on some of the ticket sites. I had a veggie wrap, it was way too salty, sent it back and got a small pizza, it was not tasty at all. when I got my bill I was charged for the bad veggie wrap that I did not eat. I complained to the waitress and she said I ate off of it, I said to her how else would I know it was too salty without biting into it. she then took my ticket back and took off the veggie wrap. skip the food. also they turn off the lights when the movie comes on, you can't see what is going in your mouth. God forbid if a bug flew on your food or if someone's hair was in it. I wish the food was better and it would be nice if the lights were turned down low, just enough to see your food.
