Avoid the brown bags (even on sale). Easily one of the worst ways I've ever spent $15 and no return policy. The place as a whole has a lot of options on used stuff and pretty traditional for that kind of places. And you can find deals though it did seem expensive on the whole. What I was disappointed in was the quality. They have these brown mystery bags of DVDs and, without hyperbole, they are straight trash (unless you like the sample below). These DVDs are bottom of the barrel movies or workout videos and likely few you've ever heard of. Buy your mystery DVDs on eBay as they typically have a mix of trash and solid DVDs and you get more. Mystery bags are usually also ways a mix/risk, but I bought two bags even at buy one get one and I don't think there was a single redeemable DVD in there. Only a couple that I've heard of even being a big movie guy. As far as guest services, tried to talk to them but all they had was "Sorry, we don't accept return" even though I looked online and didn't see that under there no-return policy (unless I missed it). I usually wouldn't care and likely the gamble but these were so bad that even with 2 for 1 it was like pit of your stomach "I just completely wasted $15." Walked away even at $15 for two bags feel like I just got taken to the cleaners. They're just cleaning out all the leftover, clearance trash that everyone looked at and no one wanted without anything else to sweeten it so avoid and again I'll say, avoid those. If you're looking for movies and retro games, this is easily my favorite shop. I've bought movies, traded in DVDs of movies I replaced on BluRay, and even picked up a Dreamcast Lightgun. Most of my purchases are generally similar or better than what you can find on eBay. But I can't help but buy certain bigger ticket items (i.e., 4k UHD BluRay) and support this great chain of stores. Honestly, the selection alone is so huge, I could spend a whole day here. So many great movies, my wallet is the only thing stopping me from buying more. We'll be coming back for sure! read more

Movie geeks, the force is strong with this one. Hardly a better selection of movies can be found in DFW, even amongst other TMC locations. I've found many an obscure Brit Flick and subtitled German and Japanese films. Even the scruffiest of nerf-hearders could find something they'd be entertained with here. Gems I have found: "The Long Way Down" - Ewan McGregor's African motorcycle documentary "Out Cold" - American ski movie for $1 in the sale bin "Drunken Master" - 1978 kung fu masterpiece with a very young Jackie Chan "Human Traffic" - Brits on drugs I've brought movies in to trade a few times, and I always get a fair deal. The employees have typically been quite helpful. They are usually fellow movie nerds who know their shit and can hold an engaging conversation about said shit. Love this place! If you are trying to find hard to reach DVDs this is the place for you. I have grew my movie collection on this place. It has also saved me when my husband has ran out and bought brand new moves that we later realized we didn't like. No worries we just took them up to Movie Trading Company to trade them in or get a store credit. So no lost what so ever. They will also take your old VHS movies from you. Of course you will not get much money for them but hey you get rid of them and still get a few coins for them. This is not a high end store chain but it will get the job done for what you are needing. If the location you are at does not have the movie you are needing the staff will look in there system to see if any of there other locations might have a copy of the movie you are needing and will place a hold on it for you. Cheap prices are a savior if you want to spend time with your friends and pick out movies to watch on a budget, CDS are a bit overpriced. No way in hell am I paying for a 20$ MCR CD. Only really bad thing to say about this store is some of the people who *hang around*, I had a close call at this store because of a guy who walked up to me and started to strike a conversation with "Hey girl.". Several problems with this is, I am NOT a girl, nor did he stop when I looked up and he saw me. Luckily my dad walked by and the guy walked off and smiled. I felt gross. I actually had a really good experience here. The bf and I got a wild hair up our asses to get an original Nintendo system. As soon as we started talking about it, I had to have one. Although I could think of a helluva lot more things I should have probably spent $70 (that included a second controller, a gun and two extra games) it was one of those obsessive compulsive buys that if you don't satisfy, you'll end up seeing one randomly two months later for twice the price and buy it just to spite yourself. Or maybe that's just me. Anyway, we headed in, and they brought us out a system from the back. They had a decent selection of games and we got a couple, but we had already resigned that we'd probably have to get the more popular titles (Super Mario 3, etc) online. It sort of comes with the territory of getting a 20 year old game system. They cautioned us to keep the receipt, which you need to return or exchange any faulty items. Of course, my bonehead bf (God love him) left the itemized copy somewhere in the depths of the mobile trash dump that I call my car. When our system went on the fritz a week and a half later, all I had was the copy that had the total on it. Groan. I called up and explained the situation, and they were more than happy to help. I apologized profusely and the guy on the phone (who miraculously was the same guy who sold us the system--and remembered us!) said I could bring in what I had and he would try to look up the itemized version in the computer. He DID mention that this was only because I was only exchanging it for another system and not returning it, which I can understand with all the buy/sell internet nonsense these days. Without these stipulations anyone could just mosey in with some bootleg stuff and make money off of it, no bueno. Overall, I was super happy with how the whole situation panned out. We're still the proud owners of a near-mint condition NES that plays perfectly. Power to the ancient video games!!! read more

Let's face it...not everyone is looking for movie subscriptions like Netflix and Redbox doesn't always have the best selection...especially on a weekend night. I went in thinking I needed to buy the scrink wrapped movie but was offered a deal to rent it for about $4 for a few days. Umm...deal? Yes! They have a huge selection and had just what I was looking for. The store was pretty busy too which is promising. They have a HUGE wall of TV shows, an AMPLE selection of DVD's and Blu-rays. A great place to find CDs, comic books, anime, old school (and new) video games and consoles. I could probably spend 4 straight days at this Movie Trading Company, surviving only off of Monster energy drinks and Nic Cage movies. For starters, the store is massive. You'll find yourself saying the alphabet outloud to guide you through the huge aisles of dvds and games. You'll also find yourself picking up 3 or 4 extra dvds that you didn't plan on buying because of things like "oh shit, i remember major league 2. $4? deal." My suggestion is to go their with a budget of $20 or so and seeing how many dvds you can get. The staff is also very helpful (if a little understaffed at times) and total movie nerds that will chat about your selection with you if they aren't busy. This location is definitely the best. Everything is organized awesomely - alphabetically by genre. The staff seem to really enjoy their jobs, and are super friendly. I am on a Mission! A mission to declutter and get crap out of my life. I took two huge boxes over to CD Source to sell them back and they only bought about a dozen of them. Something about them being too scratched or whatnot. So after picking up my rejected CDs, I drove half a block down the street and came to Movie Trading Company. They told me up front that it would take a little while to go through all of the CDs, although with nearly 400 CDs I understood that. They went through each CD, scanned them, and ended up buying all but about 70 of them. Within an hour I walked out with 1/4 of a box and about $62 in cash. I am writing this review as a person selling movies not looking for one. I sold 8 perfect condition dvds with titles such as training day, ip man 2, face off, natural born killers, etc. I received the grand total of $6 for those 8 dvds. In retrospect I probably should have just tried to sell them at walmart parking lot and probably would have received more cash. They do have every movie probably ever made if you are looking for a movie. But I saw several lame movies on dvd for sale for $10 yet my were not worth even a $1 a piece. So my advice is if you selling movies go sell them on craigslist and if you are looking for a hard to find movie come to the store. read more

Hey just wanted to give a shout out to Rey he help me a lot the past couple days. I had went in for a controller and a guy had bought what looked like the last one on the shelf but Rey checked for me and found one up front. I took it home and the trigger was messed up no big deal, but I threw my receipt out. I called the next day and some assured me they could process a refund. Came in a few days later to see Rey again he help again looked up my receipt and got me a refund also when I went in they actually had another controller for me so I paid the difference and got a new controller. Just really appreciate Rey looking that up for me and even going out he extra step to find another controller for me. Yet again, I am severely disappointed by my experience at Movie Trading Company. The staff is less than knowledgeable, they've sold me the wrong product on more than one occasion, and every single employee I've spoken to (with the exception of one girl with purple hair) has been horrificly rude. Their policies are garbage and the customer service is even worse. Today I came in with a simple request: help me find a cable to make my PlayStation 3 work. The gentleman behind the counter was less than enthused to help me and convinced me to buy a product where the box said PlayStation 1 & 2. When I insisted that this couldn't be the right product, he persuaded me that on the sticker sticker the store had placed on the box showed it would work for PlayStation 3. Despite my better judgement I decided to get the cable. When I asked the woman at the counter, who I'm assuming is a manager (that's a scary thought) what the return policy was she stated I could return it as long as it was on opened. I contested that I would need to try the cable in order to know if it would work for my game console. She rolled her eyes, sighed, and threw the receipt at me on the counter. After testing the cable, of course it didn't work. When I went to return it, the only nice employee at the store, that girl with the purple hair, took it back, apologized and refunded my money. On another occasion I rented a video game from the store. It was Bioshock 2. After playing the game I returned it into the after hours drop off slot. I realized the next day that I had given them my copy of Bioshock 1. After providing the employee on the telephone with all of my information and explaining the situation they said they could not help me and that the game had been thrown in the garbage. In my opinion someone probably just got a free game. I ended up having to return to their copy of Bioshock 2 and then had to go buy a new copy of 1 from the Gamestop next door who has yet to disappoint. I've never left a review on Yelp before but time and time again this store has disappointed me to the point where I will be taking my business elsewhere and hopefully redirecting other people's business as well. read more

I like how they still sell VHS for the older hard to find movies and both their DVD and VHS sections are organized alphabetically. This is a massive movie store with a great selection of all genres. Everything is in alphabetical order, although I would prefer to see the films separated by genre to save me some time. They also carry old video games and I was impressed with the selection of classic Xbox and Playstation games. The prices are fair, with some items I purchased being really good deals and others just being the average price. They had some moderately hard to find DVDs (if you hunt via brick and mortar stores) and I was surprised to find some rare slasher films on Bluray. The staff was friendly, offered help several times, and for the toy collectors they have an OK amount of Pop figures and other novelty items. read more

When I stated (again) that I wanted to sell my DVD he said "well it won't me much."
