Yo this store is fantastic, I've been sitting on a dead PS4 for about a year and a half and only decided to go in after my X-Box One finally gave up the ghost leaving me with no console options. Calen answered the call at the counter, showed how easy replacing the hard drive would be given my PC skills but offered to try a restore from a USB drive. Told Calen to go for it, 'cause I'm lazy as hell and didn't want to bother repairing another computer for my own sake lol. Lo and behold the system started working fine after 15 or so minutes of restore. 40 bones to an have expert complete this was definitely worth it. Also had a chat about the upcoming game tournament and some old school console setups with Trey. Not mentioned in the name is a great selection of vintage vinyl and other music to browse while they're working on things for you. This is a peak gaming store. They sell everything for practically every console, among other things like vinyls and CDs. It definitely feels like it came straight out of a 2000's game store, and I'm here for it! The prices are super reasonable, and they even have wanted posters for games they need! I haven't traded in, but when I went there with my friend recently to buy a copy of RDR2, the guy didn't need to ask for ID (like Gamestop does) and we chatted for a bit. I think he did mention they check IDs on more adult-leaning games tho. Overall, great vibe, great prices, amazing employees, and will visit again multiple times! read more

This place is awesome! I brought in 5 games that needed repairing and they were super transparent and informative before hand when it came to the services they provided. Not only that but currently I didn't have the consoles to test them so they actually tested them before and after the service was provided! Sooooo sick! Also they were super knowledgeable when I had questions regarding certain consoles. Oh and none of my games worked before their cleaning and now all of them work! So yeaaaa it's worth it...also get their membership if you plan on doing business there. read more

We went here once because we were recommended here to trade some older games we had. This is a small business. The place was dark and the person behind the counter stopped helping the people he was with when he saw our games and yelled asking if we were expecting cash or store credit. We said we preferred cash back and he said he couldn't do that today. This would have been fine if he hadn't raised his voice and maybe apologized and said they could do it later this week or even if they don't do cash back at all- that would have been a better response than that. He seemed like he was trying to push us away so we will not be coming back in the future. read more

Place is terrible. I went here rather than some big box store cause I wanted to support small business. Sold back a bunch of stuff which I got virtually nothing for which is what it is and I can't be upset at them about it, my old stuff just didn't have much value. The thing that bothered me the most was I bought a used game with the store credit and then left and later that day while at another store saw the same game brand new for $4 cheaper. So I was clearly price gouged. Won't be back. Too many other stores to waste time here. read more

Excellent, honest people! Went in to get my PS2 repaired, but instead walked out with one in much better condition than I've seen other stores sell one for. They go out of their way to make sure they sell only the best they have. Prices are reasonable, and they confirmed with me that a new laser is installed in the system, and ready to go. Controller it came with was especially in surprisingly good shape with strong vibration and throughly cleaned it looks. Highly recommended!! read more

This place sucks.... I dropped my PS4 console on Tuesday September 17, 2019 around 7pm; told the employee that my PS4 was over heating and shutting off... The guy told me that the gentleman who fixes the console will call me tomorrow between 1pm or 4pm... I had to call the store on Thursday the 19th of September 2019; still the gentleman who fixes the console wasn't there. So, I call on Friday and was told the same thing and to call back on Wednesday.... So, I call back on Wednesday September 25th around 1pm and the gentleman was there and told me that hasn't gotten too it yet and will give me a call once he has... So, around 4pm I received a call telling me that they can't find anything wrong with my PS4. I told him when I'm playing my Resident Evil 5 within 13 minutes or 15 minutes it will shut off and console would be extremely hot... Keep in mind that my console is out in the open and not inside a cabinet... Again, he told me that he can't find anything wrong with it and to bring in my Resident Evil 5 game with me... So, on Saturday September 28th, 2019 around 1pm, I pickup my PS4 and the gentleman told me if I bought my Resident Evil game with me, I said ' No ' and just give me my PS4... He told me if I had any issues to bring it back, Really..... Do you think I going to drive 45 minutes to a store that kept my console for 11 days and couldn't find anything wrong with it to bring it back... And F.Y.I. my PS4 is still overheating, I used my nextdoor neighbor thermal gun and it displays 102 degrees... read more

Great service! I did not spend a lot of time in the store, so I can't speak to the selection. I just needed 2 old Wiimotes, and they're harder to find than you might think. I called the FX Change and to my delight, they had just gotten two in stock! They hadn't been tested yet, but the guy at the counter said he'd set them aside on hold for me and give me a call after they were verified to work. Sure enough, he gave me a call the next morning. He gave me a good price and I took them home the same day. Great experience, all in all! If you're looking for video games or equipment, this is the place to check. read more

The staff is very knowledgeable of the technical aspects of consoles. They are one of the very few places in the DFW area that had the equipment to repair my xbox one console. Not only they fixed the console faster than they quoted me, they also fixed another xbox 360 while I waited, and a very competitive price. All and all, a very positive experience. read more

My wife and I are avid game collectors and we visited this store for the first time. We did really enjoy it and got a few really cool things, and we'll be bringing our consoles in for repair should we ever need one to be repaired. Prices on most of the games were good, however, the pricing for more of the retro stuff was slightly upsetting because when I asked the workers for a price they just looked up the price on pricecharting.com. While that website is a fantastic resource it is not a good catch-all; that site averages out recently sold eBay prices. That means if you have something with a reproduction box that sells for slightly less and something with the original box, inserts, manuals, and everything in great condition that sells for more, it's going to average it out. It's usually not an accurate reflection of the prices that the exact game in the store should go for. My main complaint with using this system is that it can inflate the prices quite heavily on some things and eBay prices also include shipping which will inflate the price a further $5-$10 on some things (why should you have to pay the price that's theoretically for the game + shipping when you're picking up a game in store?) Also, controller prices were a bit out of whack. At most other stores in the area you'd be looking to pay $5-$9 for an OEM Dreamcast or NES controller but here they charge $20. Overall this store had a good and interesting selection and we will definitely come to them for console repairs. The staff was very nice and generous with letting me be picky (letting me open up and examine a CIB game before I purchased it was awesome) and they had great prices for more current games. I'm so upset with this place, it's unreal. My boyfriend and I walked in on a Saturday about a month ago to see if they could repair his xbox one. It was still able to play downloaded games, but the discs were no longer being read. Probably a problem with the laser, we thought. The guy at the counter advised the two owners were the only ones who repaired games and they were only in on Tuesdays and Wednesday's. Someone would call us then to let us know how much it would be and what exactly was wrong. No problem, we said. He advised it would take a week and a half to fix. We again agreed. He very important mentioned that once they called us to let us know it had been completed, we had 30 days to come pay for the service and pick it up or they would keep it as their own inventory. It seemed reasonable. We left the Xbox and went home. By that Friday, no one had called us. I called them, but was told that no one had looked at it yet. The guy said "this isn't an excuse but we had a gaming expo this weekend and are busy". That's fine, but why didn't they just tell us that in the first place? I was promised they'd call on Tuesday. But no one did. I went to the store on Wednesday and explained the situation. The teenage boy went to the back and a man who must have been one of the owners came out holding a piece of an Xbox in his hands. The store, by the way, was almost completely empty. No games on the shelves. I was told they take all their games to the expo and were restocking. The owner apologized for the delay and explained it was not the laser, but the arm mechanism that pushes the disc into the reader, that was broken. He had been calling his contacts to try to find just that piece to repair it and promised that he would call my boyfriend the next day with a final estimate and a day to come pick it up. BUT NO ONE EVER CALLED. I had checked to make sure the number was in the system when I called in. I left town for two weeks after this, my boyfriend still at home. When I got back, I saw the Xbox in the room. I asked him how it went. No one ever reached out to him. He went in two days before I came back and just asked for it back. They had repaired it -- the only reason for the two stars -- but never once told him anything about it. He paid them for the service, but I am truly baffled at what a terrible time we had with getting any information about the status of the repair. I'm worried this is how they rip people off. They don't let you know things are ready so after the 30 days they can keep your product. Call your customers when you "promise" that you will and work on customer service. read more

Caddy-corner from the excellent Lion City is what is quickly becoming one of my favorite used-game shops. FX Game Exchange is a great alternative to the Gamestops of our era, and while the selection isn't as robust, the rewards for becoming a loyal customer outstrip the competition. Somewhere in the world, there is a type of kid who, upon receiving a new game, immediately removes the case, throws it away (or dunks it in a vat of pure feces), spreads each and every page of the manual with mayonnaise and cobwebs, and takes the actual disc (or cartridge), places it gingerly on a piece of coarse-grit sandpaper, and then twirls, Capoeira-style, on top of it for eight hours a day. Gamestop loves these discs, offering valuable pennies for each one, and any older, more obscure titles are often crammed into a little box, sans any original packaging or instruction manuals, and those unfortunate souls searching for something other than CALL OF DUTY XX: MORE GANGSTA THAN GANGSTA MADDEN typically have only this "elephant's graveyard" to search for neat games. Having found a gnarled and gnawed copy of something cool, the staff at Gamestop will helpfully offer to either insure your disc against failure (something I never even considered could happen until I witnessed these discs), or offer to resurface the disc for a fee. FX Game exchange actually LIKES their discs, and RESPECTS the customer trying to purchase the disc. If a disc is traded in in less-than-pristine condition, they resurface the disc before putting it up for sale. It's a small gesture, but it goes a long way to ensure that you don't get your game home and find it unplayable. Each game comes with a 90-day warranty, too. Don't like the game once you get it home? For the cost of a rental fee (they rent out games on the cheap, too), you can bring it back within 7 days and swap it out for anything else for $3. In addition to treating their discs well, they treat the customer well by offering promotions almost all the time. The last time I went in (12/30/10), they were having a "buy-two-get-one" sale, and a free membership (10% off all used games and systems, and 10% more trade-in value) which they even applied to my already-promotionalized purchase! Sometimes a "playa'" gots to know when hiz copy of Dai Senryaku: Modern Military Tactics for the Xbox is supported by the 360's emulation capabilitiez. REPRESENT. The shopkeep was very helpful, looking it up quickly and happily, and I was assured that my virtual war would proceed unfettered by technical limitations. FX Game Exchange offers 10% off any new games you reserve through them, which tops Gamestop's we'll-take-your-money-and-make-interest-off-it-without-actually-guaranteeing-that-you'll-have-a-copy-on-launch-day-but-you-can-pay-full-price-anyway policy. Get your new games here if you like 'em cheaper. Speaking to the manager, he mentioned wanting to (if business is steady enough) knock out the back wall and put in an arcade. They truly love games here, and anyone wanting to attempt something as unprofitable as running an arcade in this day an age certainly gets my respect. My only qualms with the place are the aforementioned sometimes-scant inventory, and the somewhat barren aesthetic design. I'd love for the space to feel more interesting and inviting, but one foot in front of the other, I suppose. Tell your significant other to get dressed-up in their snazziest duds, tell them you're "taking them out on the town", and drop by FX Game Exchange to find that precious gaming gem to add to your collection. Wow. This is such a great store. There's not enough that can be said for its many features, top notch customer service, and great product. FX Game Exchange has been a part of my life for seven years now. I've shopped there as a teenage kid, sold stuff to them as a broke college kid, and made friends with them as a newly minted adult. They offer top notch store credit, as much as 75% of the retail value on certain sought after retro games. You can rent any video game they have on hand in the store. Any game. No limitations, and if you pony up for the monthly rental membership, you can play the game until you beat it for pennies of what you would have paid for it at retail price. Fantastic. Dig tournaments? Cool. Play Super Smash Bros. In their store up to three different times a week. Wanna get smoked at Gauntlet on a genuine refurbished arcade cabinet? Drop that quarter in the coin slot. Looking for that rare game? If FX doesn't have it, they will *find it* for you. They know a guy who knows a guy. The guys that work here want to get to know you. They'll ask you about your wife, girlfriend, kids or your dog. They're like a family that is constantly adopting new members into a sweet fraternity of gamers. Knowledgeable staff, great service, solid retro game selection and no bullsh. I came in to see if my Super Nintendo I had laying around still worked since I had none of the accessories. The manager was very helpful and didn't hesitate to test it out for free. Their selection of SNES games was great and I wasn't pressured to buy anything as I browsed around the store. The lone employee was so engrossed with talking with his buddy he couldn't be bothered to help a customer until I had to break into his conversation. A few months ago, I was hit with a weird wave of nostalgia when I was at my parents' house and felt like catching some Pokemon on Gameboy. Because the games are old, and also the date/time content of the games, the internal save batteries were dead. I found this place based on a few positive Yelp reviews, as most people aren't really spending any time reviewing places that aren't GameStop and don't want to shove another stupid Call of Duty title in my face. They guys working here had the usual level of pretention that I have come to expect from small video games stores, so not particularly unfriendly, but not outgoing and hospitable. They said that they could get it done by X date, and when I stopped by to check on it, I was told "oh I haven't had time to do that." Well, then don't tell me that it will be done if only one person will be able to do the work and decides not to do it. The games work great, and the price was very reasonable (about $5 per battery to change). If I need something like this done on a legacy system or what to check out some used games where the staff actually knows something about games, I will come back here. They didn't quite run me off, but I'm not going to buy any fruitbaskets for them. ------------Edit 6/3/2013----------------------------------------------- About a month ago, I received a yelp message from Trey, the owner of FX Game Exchange. Admir is a dumb dumb. He drops F bombs to compensate for creativity. Uncreative people don't have clear memories. Maybe you'll argue he is creative because he concocted such a tall tale, but I'd wager he was just frustrated and on grounding foe bad grades. As for the store, it's top notch. I've been going there from denton to plano at least every other week for a year. I bring my 8 year old sometimes if it's the weekend and he has a BLAST. They have some sweet arcade machines and so much to look at...so much changes in two week. Won't get that in other small chain gane stores (looking at you, game store in frisco mall). Love coming here to see what they have and every now and then I'll buy a game, there are some friendly staff here except for this one older guy. The last time I went to FX game exchange I wanted to sell some of my games and accessories. Like everyone else I wanted to know what they would give me but the older guy said I have to accept "ONE PRICE" or nothing. Thats a rip off, so much for there slogan saying they offer the highest $$ on trades. Will still shop here for games and accessories but I recommend taking your old games and accessories to games n' things or gamestop. Went in for disc repair. We had just severely scratched a brand-new $50 XBox game and they fixed it perfectly for $5. Not many places can repair discs and they did it quickly. Looked around while we waited and thought they had good prices and selection. Lots of cool older games and systems as well. Several tvs and a variety of systems for playing in-store. Our next visit was a much better experience, and the staff was friendly. We will definitely be visiting again when we're in the West Plano area.
