Awesome staff. Repair guys willing to give you free advice and help you out. Even over the phone. Whether you're a triathlete, commuter or beginning rider, they treat you with respect, are more than fair and generous with service and sales situations, and very friendly. This is more of an upscale/boutique shop that I would have thought had snobby people running it. Not the case. Love it. I walked in one day looking for a special stem and tires that they didn't stock. They put a custom order in that day and I was able to pick up the product the next day. The stuff was as cheap if not cheaper than I see online at other bike parts sites ... so i'm assuming they gave me the parts at cost or close to it. BTW - I ride a cheap $500 bike that I bought elsewhere. I've been in numerous times for help with my ride and I've not once heard the "it's a boat anchor" or "don't put a penny into it because it's junk" line like I've heard down the road at Kozy. I've walked my bike in and they've given me free tips and even a quick gear tune-up free of charge ... all on a bike that doesn't even cost as much as the groupsets of their entry level bikes. They also have a large selection of tubes that are fairly cheap .. $6. I walked into Kozy a week ago trying to get a basic tube that's on most road bikes and they didn't even have one. In response to the negative review .. Yes, the crew that works there hangs out in the back. That's where the repair area is and that's where 95% of their daily work goes on. They are a friendly crew, just walk back there and say hi and they'll stop what they're doing and help ya out. Thanks guys. read more

I posted this under the old name but it was actually with new ownership...so here you go. same crooks diff name have riding bikes for quite some time and I have used several local bike shops. I also compete in triathlons and have bought countless items from this store(spent lots of $$$). I should have realized years ago that something was different with this shop when a salesman tried to fit me to a bike that was on-sale but not the right fit for me. I had been warned by friends who race for local teams, not to use this store as well. BUT its under new ownership as of recent....SO.... Well, I reccomended to a friend to have a mechanic at Mission Bay look over and give advice about a used bike he was about to buy. The mechanic threw a fit about the fact that he wasn't buying a new bike from his shop. By "fit" I mean he was whinning and throwing his hands in the air talking about how we were taking away from his business. Now that being said, I was in there with my friend to look/purch a new set of wheels (roughly $1500) and the used bike needed new components(roughly $1000) yet this guy was so mad that he was asked to look over a used bike that he lost ALL of our business. This sort of business is all that is wrong with this store. I have never been treated like this in any SERVICE/SALES environment. I would stay away from this store at all costs and my opinion has been reinforced yet again EVEN under new management. read more

I was on my way to several other bike shops to price & fit several handlebar options. I've driven past this shop scores of times in the past and have always wanted to check them out (great curb appeal). I've even recommended to a friend to check them out in the past. I thought that today would be the perfect day to check MOX out...it being a lazy Sunday afternoon and all. I walked in. No staff up front, no greeting, although the staff looked towards the entrance seeing me. I could hear several staffers gossiping like highschool girls in the mechanics area (back of store). I walked to the back to see if they carried bars & other parts. No one greeted me there either. A staff of 4 continued talking about 'hooking up' with a girl the night before (including an older female staff member). Eventually a staffer pulled themselves away from the in depth convo, giving me a cold 'need some help?'. I explained that I was looking for vintage styled city bars. 1 staffer barked '...you mean mustache bars?'. I replied 'similar'. He said 'well, you won't find them here'. Not explaining to me that they where a specialty store. On my way out, I noticed that several parked bikes (that I presume to be belong to staffers, as there were no work tickets attached) had bars that clearly were not 'triathlon' or 'road race' bars. These bikes had 1" rise touring & mountain bike bars, like those you'd see on the average fixed-gear enthusiast, velo-styled bikes. I'm glad that I had such a crappy experience, because I'll never take the extra effort out of my day to spend any cash there. PS...I knew something was up as I walked in and there was a sign at the top of the stairway the read something like..."don't walk down these stairs with your bike shoes on...YES walk down them in your socks'. read more

I'll attempt to hit all major points in a single review. Let me begin by saying I've been a patron of Mox for over a year, but just recently purchased two bikes from them. The first bike I purchased from Mox was a Felt ZW95 for my girlfriend for our anniversary. Since the bike was going to be a surprise, we didn't have her available for a fit, but I wanted to have something to present her with the day of the anniversary. Mox was extremely understanding and I took an educated guess on her size and brought the bike home with me. (She loved the bike by the way). The following day, I brought her into the store and we performed a full fitting to get her comfy and settled. They handled the situation superbly and even offered to switch sizes on the bike in the case the fit is off (show me another shop that will do this after the sale). The second bike I purchased was my Felt AR. It was time to retire my Cannondale (carbon was cracking near the seat clamp and I was having a hard time with warranty through another store). I specifically went back to Mox for this bike because I liked the service when purchasing my girlfriends bike. With the purchase of my bike they offered to swap all the hardware from my CDale to the Felt for free. In addition we went through the entire fit and they swapped stems and even gave me a free carbon conical headset spacer (factory was a 25mm spacer but I wanted to drop down to 15mm). Over time I came back for a few more 'touch up' fits where we tweaked the cleats, saddle fore/aft, and bar height a few millimeters at a time. I don't have a trainer at home so I was gracious they would do this for me. As anyone who rides regularly knows, nailing that initial fit almost never happens in a single sitting, there's always those tiny adjustments to get exactly where you want. Lately I've been building these bikes with Mox, coming in every-so-often, purchasing a nicer component and getting it installed. This is where we talk about component sales. They don't BS you. First, these guys know their stuff. The knew the exact compatibility of my components with the upgrades I was looking at. In addition, they'll be honest and tell you if something is excessive. They've saved me money for thing's I honestly didn't need. Rare to find a shop that will downsell you if it's in your best interest. Finally let's talk about service. I had my cassette, brakes, rear derailleur, and pedals lifted off my old bike when I purchased the new one. The work was flawless and the bike came out shifting like a champion. Over the past months I've had them replace the front derailleur, chain, bottom bracket, and crankset. Once again, everything has come out perfect. In summary, I have purchased 2 road bikes, gotten multiple fits, and serviced 8 components at Mox. I have had the full experience, from buying a bike, getting service, and buying parts/accessories. They know what they are doing, and they are the only ones I trust. read more

Mox is where I go for my triathlon needs. I bought a used bike so I have not purchased a full ride from them, but pretty much all of my other gear is Mox. The prices are reasonable and the staff is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Most of them seem to be experienced and enthusiastic so they have been able to point me in the right direction. Great people, great service! They truly care about their customers, and will go out of their way to help. I bought a rear wheel for my bike from Mox a couple of months ago. I recently started seeing an issue where my bike chain would go slack when I was coasting or pedaling backwards. After some googling I diagnosed the problem as being an issue with the freehub assembly (part of the rear wheel). I took my bike back into Mox to have them take a look. They confirmed that there was indeed a problem with the free hub and replaced my wheel free of charge, no questions asked or hassle given. I was expecting to have argue to get the issue resolved, but was pleasantly surprised with the courtesy and level of service. I have not stepped foot in the store BUT!!! I was in town for a couple days of meetings, staying at the Trump. The hotel has a great lap pool and I forgot my swim suit. Meetings prevented me from getting to the store during hours; no problem. They not only found me a suit, but also charged over the phone and dropped at the bell desk at my hotel. I've been in here a few times over the past few weeks for some new pedals and shoes and I've been very happy with my experience. The staff really takes the time to answer all your questions and doesn't pressure you into anything. I found an amazing clearance deal for some shoes and came back later to get the cleats fitted to my pedals. They even went well past closing time to adjust my shoes for me. Very knowledgeable staff and have pretty much anything you need from normal bike riding to doing tri's. Glad I found it! read more

I have been to many bike shops in the city. These people talk it & live it. That's what I love! Any other bike shop will try to sell you top of the line stuff for a quick buck. I usually stop by here and hang out if i'm not doing anything & look around. I usually find new things, new tips from these ultra runners & Cyclists... New races or the best races. I called Mox after falling in love with a bike that I saw at an expo at the end of March. I wanted to purchase it locally, though, so I contacted Mox the day after the show since they are listed on the Felt website and they are less than a mile from my home. During the first call, the Mox staff indicated that they would contact the warehouse and would then get back to me. During each of the three calls I placed to follow-up the staff was very friendly but pretty dismissive. Short version of this review is that over a 13-day period of me calling them to ask if they could get the bike, Mox indicated that they were closer to an answer and promised to get back to me. At no point did they, and 6-weeks later I'm still waiting for the promised call. I'll grant you that this bike is only $700 so it's not a big loss to them, but it's still unprofessional and unnecessary. My time is as valuable as theirs and it's sad that they felt they could waste mine. The happy ending to my story is that I did buy my bike from another store a few miles away on Day 14 of this saga, and there was no chasing required. Called one day, picked it up 3-days later. I was planning to tell Mox as soon as they called me but you now know how that went. I love my bike and that's what really matters. It appears that I'm an aberration based on reviews...maybe it was my just not my day (or 13-days.) read more

This shop is a lifesaver. They're right around the corner from my office, so when my bike needs service it's the most convenient stop after work and before training rides. The folks there are quick, pleasant, and patient with me (as someone who is not nearly on the level of cycling and athleticism as many of the people they work with as a triathlon shop). A few blocks away from the Willis Tower, where I was on my way to work a 16hr shift, my wheel starts wobbling and rubbing on my rear brake. I could feel something was wrong and was nervous to keep riding for fear that my wheel might fall off. The closest bike repair shop was Mox's. I rode in and Amy was super helpful in identifying the problem..a broken spoke. They charged me a very fair price to fix the bike and then they offered to drop the bike off at my work later so I could get to work on time! This goes way above and beyond the call of duty! These guys are top notch and saved me from what could have been a really bad day. I have shopped at many bike shops in the chicagoland area and can say this shop has the customers in its best interest. The service fees are reasonable for bike maintenance and are willing to work with the customer on bike specs and price. They did not try to sell me a specific bike, they tried to find the bike that would best fit me and my budget. If you are in the area I have seen info about Cyclocross practice on Wednesday nights too leaving out of the shop. read more

After switching shoes about 7 times because of ankle, hip and knee problems. I read about Somnio shoes. In an act of desperation (the next step were those permanent insoles that run approx $800), I called the store, met with Troy who spent the better part of an hour fitting me with a pair of these shoes. This was about 1.5 months ago. Since then, I have been running on average 5 miles a day WITHOUT my knee brace and the pain in my ankles and my left knee have slowly gone away. I LOVE these shoes! They answered all basic questions and then fitted me and had me fully outfitted all within the price I wanted. VERY helpful and have serviced all problems I have ran into. Variety of staff personalities-If you don't know what you need/want. Just ask! Was looking for a new Bike and was recommended to Mox by a friend. Mox's customer service through the decision process of what type/brand/style to get was spectacular. They did a lot to educate me on what the types of bikes are and make sure I was picking the right bike for my riding style. Then they took me through the sizing to get right frame (for the brand/model bike I picked....its not just cookie cutter). Then they put me on the bike for a sizing. Few small tweaks and the bike fits great. I even had a small mishap shortly after leaving the shop and they hooked me up with a quick fix and a new chain. The entire process was very relaxed, no pressure to buy something. Was much more a collaboration than a sales pitch. I will continue to work with Mox in the future. read more

Well I have had multiple interactions with this shop with 2 different bikes. The first was that they went to fix a flat tire for me and it kept going flat. Low and behold it was a lose spoke that they never checked. I thought this was an honest mistake so I gave it another shot, after having another shop do the work on my front wheel I just bought a brand new Jamis and I brought it in as I was having crank issues. Not only did they never call me when they had questions and my bike just sat but after 1,5 weeks they gave it back to me with a stripped pedal screw that holds the toe basket in place. Essentially charged me to fix the problems i brought it there with and sent me home with some new ones and rendered the bike un-rideable until I get it fixed some place else. If you want to buy something this place maybe good , but DO NOT BRING IT HERE FOR REPAIRS! read more

After reading everyone's good experience, I almost hate to give my bad one. The shop is pretty much for pro riders and they only sell pro grade bikes. I have a Bitter chip all carbon with Ultegra 6700 so it's certainly not a toy. I went today to just have adjustments done to the gears. I work only 2 blocks away and I left it there starting at noon. The guys didn't even seem like they wanted to even help. I patiently waiting for one guy to finish talking to another customer, and when he was done he started talking to the shop guy totally ignoring I was standing there. So u said is it possible.i can have some help. Oh I didn't see u standing there. I was like I was standing here right next to when you finished up with the other customer. Not even an apology so.i just said I just need adjustments to the gears. It over shifts on the front and it misses on the rear. I usually do it myself, but my cable have the tips off and it has frayed. So in told him u can replace the cables if you want but they and the housing are new as they were put on 3 weeks ago. She said he had a couple bikes and wasn't sure if he could look at it now. I said I could leave it and grab it at 5. He said he would be early enough if he could do it. I never got a call and when I went in he hadn't even touched my bike at all. Then he says, oh well we just finished doing another bike. Both guys were just sitting idle and they had no bike on the stand. So he was like maybe we can look at it now can I wait. I was like wait? I left it here for 5 hours I am ready to go home now it's 5PM. Sorry but that is just lame terrible service. I Will not be going there ever again and I won't spend a dime there. I will.walk or take the bus if I break down, downtown before I ever go there. What a joke. Terrible service, terrible snobbish attitudes. read more

I had a bad day and a flat tire...I walked my bike from Union Station to Mox to hopefully get a new tube before they closed. By the time I got there, the shop had closed, but the worker saw me outside & asked if I needed anything. She sold me a tube AFTER the store had closed for the day, and let me fix my bike inside the shop. Definitely made a bad day just a bit better! Another time, I had gone into the shop to ask the mechanic if he could check the alignment on my frame. The guy was super knowledgeable and friendly--told me straight up that they did not have the equipment for adjusting double-butted steel tubing, but gave me helpful suggestions about where I could take it for repair. I will definitely return to this shop for accessories, etc. read more

I went out today at lunch to hit up my favorite fish market and butcher and had some skipping on my gears on my bike on my way there. I remember seeing a sign for a bike store in the West Loop on Randolph. I stopped in and asked how long and how much it would take to adjust my bike. The guy said he would do it right away. Within the time it had taken me to walk across the street and pick up my bacon, chicken and steak at Olympic Meats, the guy had fixed it and explained to me how to fix it in the future. These guys are REALLY nice and very helpful. The same job at Village Cycle in Old Town would have taken overnight and $40-$50....At Performance Cycle on Halsted about $35....but here they had just charged me $10 and he cleaned all the dirt off my bike and gears as well. I will be back and I recommend if you need your bike tuned up, fixed, or just want to check out the cool gear they have in the store to go here. read more
