Contacted Moses through Yelp and other fence/wall companies, but decided to go with Mr. Alone Services! Moses was super quick to respond via yelp and very quick to give me an estimated quote for vinyl fencing about 65 ft long. His estimated quote was very reasonable compared to other vendors out there. There's actually a lot of competition out there on this island so I'm sure it's tough for these vendors. I asked Moses if he would like to check out the job/area prior to starting the work just in case it's not what he was expecting. It was just slightly longer than 65 ft and Moses adjusted the quote accordingly. He started literally the next day and completed the entire custom vinyl fencing in about 5 days. The vinyl fencing was built on an existing rock wall and it wasn't exactly level, so everything was pretty much custom done! Amazing. (Written in the point of view of my husband & shortened due to Yelp restrictions. We have a paper trail, messages, pics, & video recordings to backup our review) I contacted Moses Alone on March 7, 2023 to remove Futura Stone from our driveway. Asked about resurfacing once stones removed. Moses recommended against it. After removal, we could see indentations and blemishes on the concrete underneath due to years of wear and tear by the Futura Stone. I asked Moses if there was a way we could fix or cover up the blemishes. He said he could spruce it up and "make it look nicer." I sent him samples of what we wanted. He sent me photos of beautiful work he had completed on a previous project. He left trash/empty water bottles on our lawn. He had a river of concrete residue streaming down to our neighbor's walkway, even though we asked him multiple times to make sure he cleaned up the area. He left the garden hose running one day. He got concrete residue all over our walkway, splashed concrete on our porch & the side of the house. When we pointed out all the flaws throughout the project, he would always say that it would "eventually go away." On March 16, Moses informed me that he sealed the driveway. HIS end result was NOTHING like the sample he provided. The driveway was 2 different colors, 2 different textures, and an uneven line down the middle. One side was a dark gray color while the other side was a white gray color. I pointed out the flaws and his response was, "the line will be there, but it will go away soon and look all the same." On March 17, I pointed out the difference between the 2 sides of the driveway. His response was, "Color, wait when we get there." At the end of the workday, he sent me photos that looked like the driveway was now a uniform color & texture. I was happy with the photos, until I came home from work. I realized Moses had PAINTED the driveway a light gray concrete-like color so that both sides would be uniform in appearance. We never agreed or discussed painting the driveway at all. On March 29, I noticed the paint/concrete combo on the driveway was peeling from the weight of my tires being parked on it overnight. I texted Moses an image of it, and he said he would stop by no later than March 30. By March 31, no communication. I texted him more photos of the driveway as the paint was now very visibly coming apart and I needed him to come back and fix his work. On June 3 (after multiple back & forths), my wife is there to meet him and talk about his work. Moses tells her that the driveway probably started peeling because we drove on it too early (we waited a full 24hrs vs his recommended 12hrs). Moses informs my wife that he would power wash the driveway, sand down the previous paint, repaint the area, and then seal it. At this point, the paint debacle is an unavoidable part of the job. There was no way he could fix the concrete that he had painted over with anything else but more paint. 2.5 hours later, he is done and leaves the property. Suspicious of such a short work day, we reviewed our home security cameras and come to find, he did NOT sand down OR powerwash the driveway like he said he would. Video footage shows he simply used our garden hose at the highest setting possible to "wash" the driveway. Moses simply repainted over the previous paint job and poured sealant over it. Upon doing so, they also splashed paint over the side of our house. On June 9, 6 DAYS later, I park overnight for the 1st time & in the morning notice paint peeling again on the driveway. On June 15, after some more back & forth, my wife and I both meet him at 6pm to "look over the driveway." Up until now, our attitude has been accepting and understanding. Moses is obviously a family man, and as hardworking people ourselves, we want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt & a second chance to make things right. We point out all the driveway flaws, issues, and residual mess that has occurred on our property. He admits this is his first resurface job (remember, he was the one who recommended against resurfacing, but did it anyway). Moses agrees to redo the whole project. On July 15, ONE MONTH after Moses came by last, I message him to follow up. He says he is on a current fencing job (the other 1 star review on Yelp I realize now), that he cannot get the proper equipment for our project, etc. After some more ghosting from his part, we finally told him not to bother coming back to fix his shoddy work. I am posting this to warn other homeowners to carefully vet all contractors for all work done, big or small. We chose him not b/c of price but because of Yelp & we wanted to support a small, local business (his bid was on par with another company we wanted to use). Learn from our costly mistake. read more
