I should label this place as corporate dinner with my leadership. It's funny that twice I've been to this restaurant during the wizard to Cedar Rapids. Both of them were because of a corporate event. The lady who was serving us was from England, so was very sweet and kind, and her recommendations were good Food overall is a bar food with wings and lots of greasy appetizers. I love their pretzels. I had their mac & cheese with chicken. I got bored with it because they have like a huge potion but the flavor remains very constant probably I'll try some bowls next time. i'm at the event or paying for it. I mean, the place is nice. Like the interior is so cool looking! For a Tuesday night it was crazy busy. Didn't try their beer which I probably should have since their wine pour was barely 2 fingers. Pro tip: just get the bottle if you're going the wine route. I had the chicken sticky buns and those were soooo good. Hubby had the buffalo wings and loved all of them. Service was nice and always helpful. Here's the reason for the 3 stars though, there was a food runner that, bless her heart, may have been under the weather but literally sneezed into someone's soup as she was carrying it to them. Constantly touching her face (nose, eyes) and going straight to picking up another order. We were right by the kitchen so we saw it all. I'm aware that's a touchy situation and no we weren't able to see how many times she washed her hands which she totally could have, but it was super busy after 6pm so just wondering if she even had the time. This isn't an exaggeration and I don't like throwing anyone under the bus as they are hard workers, but the whole table saw the sneeze into the soup and it still got delivered. I went to this new Big Grove Brewery & Taproom location in Cedar Rapids that I had never been to before with family for lunch while visiting. I liked the nice lighting and atmosphere. We enjoyed a delicious appetizer of Garlic Rosemary Focaccia. I ordered their Fire Chicken Bao Buns (without the fire sauce) and it was absolutely delicious. My husband got their BrewPub Burger and fries, and loved every bite. Everyone was very delighted with their food and drinks. Service was exceptional as well! Our server: kept our drinks full, was very personable, and even changed the tv station for us on one of the tvs, so we could watch the Indiana Fever Women's Basketball game. Very cool place!! Me and me friend stop in to check this spot out for lunch in hopes of making this the place of her future bachelorette party. After chatting with a few of the staff members we decided we would go with setting up a reservation a few months in advance. We choose to eat outside, which was so nice on the cloudy rainy day. The covered patio is so protective that you stay totally dry. It was great. The food was great. My friend had the beer flight and chicken bao buns. She said everything was wonderful. We had a group of 18 who used call ahead seating and got to sit in a big group. We had the best service! You order a beer and somebody immediately brought it to you! We had fried chicken sandwiches & it came with yummy fries. The chicken was thick and juicy. Hubbies had macaroni and cheese with pork. Hubby said next time he would ask for no barbecue sauce in his, but otherwise really enjoyed it. Another friend had the half Mediterranean chicken and was very disappointed in how bony it was and how little meat it had. This place runs like a well oiled machine! Did Friday lunch with a large group and had a solid experience. Service was good though the food was a little slow. Everyone in our group was pretty happy with their food, quantity and taste were solid. I went with the cauliflower wings and was real happy with them, also great buffalo sauce. The chili oil sauce was bland and flavorless though. On the beer front was a solid 4/5 which is why the 4stars, was much better than I expected. The Arms Race was good as was the Easy Eddy though both were missing that solid hoppy pop I expect with something hazy or IPA. Another big plus, half pours were half the price of full pours which makes sense but you don't see very often. Beautiful and clean space inside and looks like a great set up outdoors when the weather is nice. Would definitely recommend and hope to go back next time we're in town. read more

I got the chicken sandwich, my pops got the burger, mom got the garlic shrimp, and brother got the noodle bowl. The chicken sandwich was good, but my Dad's Burger was mid. He's made better burgers by himself and there was no onions, when we asked about the onions our waiter said that they don't have onions anymore. Did the onions just grow legs and run away? Husband and I were in Cedar Rapids visiting friends and we went here for some drinks and appetizers. Sat outside as it was lovely day and it was a great patio area. Tables/benches as well as fire pit areas with chairs around. Service was print and helpful. Ordered beers and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. We got the fries which came out hot and crispy and the cauliflower wings which were excellent! I forgot to take a picture before we started eating and we devoured them. Garlic parm is the way to go! What a fabulous addition to Cedar Rapids! I love how all Big Grove's locations are thoughtfully designed and different in their own ways. This one, like most, boasts a huge indoor space that opens to (via garage doors) with a large covered, outdoor area adorned with multiple fire pits. It has a stage so I imagine a lot of music will be played during warmer months! It has a gorgeous party room that can accommodate well over 100. I was recently at an event there and the staff was wonderful! There was an open bar and the seasonal cocktails were good. Food featured included pretzels/charcuterie, pulled pork mac n cheese, fried chicken sliders, mixed salad, chicken wings, and other items. They were great! No complaints here-- the fried chicken sandwich really hit the spot. And as always, you can't go wrong with a Big Grove pretzel! The only downside I see is parking-- which any biz that can accommodate this many people would have an issue with. Kingston Yard Parking is a short walk away and there's also street parking nearby. Additionally, Cedar Rapidians really enjoy a happy hour. I can see folks not enjoying the steep price tag on a beer here but down the street it being served up half price. Big Grove Brewery & Taproom does beer right, does food right and has one of the coolest taprooms in the state. Check out this location and any of its others. (IC, Solon or DSM) read more

This new location is beautiful! We love the IC and Solon locations so we had to come check it out. I can't wait for the summer to enjoy time on the patio as well. The service was good and we were helped quickly even with them being busy for a Sunday night. We came for a drink and some apps and I must say I was a bit disappointed with the food. I don't know if it was just what we ordered so I would be willing to give them another shot because I've always been impressed with all the food we have gotten at the IC and Solon locations. I would give the food 3 stars. We ordered the garlic shrimp appetizer and pimento cheese. The garlic seemed to be more lemon and oil than garlic and was in a pool of the lemon oil mixture of course the focaccia was on point as always. We were excited to see pimento cheese on the menu after living in the south for over 10 years. The fried saltines were odd to me and I would have preferred regular crackers or bread. The pimento cheese was really weird and really watery which is not what the consistency of pimento cheese should be in from my opinion. The flavor of the pimento cheese was decent but I couldn't get over the soupy consistency. I would not order either appetizer again but would absolutely give them another shot. We will be back but will probably still prefer to frequent IC or Solon more. read more

Overpriced not good! The smallest glass of wine for the most expensive price we have ever had. We ordered burgers, my wife likes hers cooked not bloody, they showed up and mine was pink and I can eat them that way but my wife's was really rare. We asked the clueless waitress and she shrugged it off. So I ate the rare McDonalds looking burger and my spouse had part of my medium burger. Really poor quality and the sad part is we love Reds in North Liberty under the same umbrella of management and owners. It was a struggle to even leave a tip, will never go back. read more

The service was fantastic and I cannot stress how wonderful my server was. It was the lack of options, the poor seating and the lack luster food for a high price that warranted a low score. I ordered the giant pretzel, a pop, and a GrilledCaesar salad. I expected to get chicken with my salad because I asked for no shrimp. Nope. It came out as a soggy slop of lettuce and a burnt piece of bread on top. The pretzel was decent but there wasn't enough pub cheese provided and one of the 8 servers who talked to me said I had to pay for more. The service would have been stellar if I had 1 designated person. I had 8 separate people talk to me during my short time there, two of which tried to talk me into buying a drink after stating I didn't drink alcohol at all. And the lady who brought my food acted like she'd rather be anywhere else than there. I feel the worst part of my existence was the 1 page of food options on a half deteriorating menu. I wanted two things on the menu and I was told both were discontinued. So I settled for two other, more expensive items. I ended having to pay $33 because the lowest tip option was 20% up to 35%. That's outrageous. I'm happy to pay 20% for exceptional service but this was not exceptional and I regret walking in the door. I expect a full menu with 1-2 servers, a comfortable seating area, and not made to feel guilty and coerced to pay more than I wanted. And I also expect meat with my $16 salad. This is a restaurant you go to to drink specialty alcohol. The food was sub par, the interior was frigid, the bathroom was dirty, and the staff had the audacity to expect a 20% tip as the minimum. I doubt I'll ever return unless they add an actual full menu because this was the worst restaurant experience I've had all year. read more

My wife ordered the "Hey Dingus - a creamy wheat porter with hints of molasses. The West Eddy is very piney and almost grapefruit juice like. It reminds me of Rongo Rongo from Fathill in Mason City only less hazy because it's filtered. The sour I tried next was equally as tasty. Food wise we started with the "Brewer's Board" which is essentially their pretzel with a few pickled foods and a nice subtly smoked sausage. We then decided to go with the Meatballs and Shrimp appetizers to share. Honestly this all ended up being too much for just two of us. We ended up sharing the huge Focaccia bread that came with one of the apps with two new friends we made at the table next to us. Ask for Hannah Bear if she'd working she's the best!!' Huge restaurant with a pub-style menu, (only better) and an enormous bar, with like a dozen craft beers on tap. Many huge big screen TVs inside playing sports. Huuuuuge outdoor space with several large built in high quality fire pits, loads of tables and seating, and quality corn hole games scattered around. Service was great!!!!! Food was great!!!! I'm the only who got a mixed drink, everyone else was beer drinkers, the fun cocktail options = also great! Right across the street is another complimentary multi use space with indoor and outdoor pickle ball courts, duck pin bowling, BBQ restaurant. They also had fantastic indoor and outdoor seating, and a rooftop restaurant/bar. All this surrounded by tasteful condos/housing. This is excellent urban planning. Did I mention it's riverfront! Hosted an event this week for about 40 coworkers. This place is a gem, cool vibe in a trendy area. Beautifully kept downtown property, warehouse feel with cleanliness and comfort. Awesome outdoor area. I won't go through the menu other than to say there we no complaints, everyone said they enjoyed their food. I had the pulled pork Mac and cheese, very good, and perfect portion. I had wings as an appetizer because I'm a wing snob from Buffalo and love to see how wings are done elsewhere, which is almost always a fail. In this case, not bad! They offer blue cheese, so they get bonus points for having more knowledge about proper wings than most. Great beverage selection, personally drank the BG seltzers, very good.
