I think Mr. Crepe is great. The crepes are consistently delicious, filled with fresh ingredients and just the right size to be satisfying without overfilling. There's a lot of good drinks to choose from, too; I especially like their caffe mocha, which hits just the right balance between the caffe and the mocha. I just can't bring myself to give it five stars because there's a whole litany of little issues that bug me pretty much every time I go. The minimal service doesn't bother me; I don't need every restaurant to be a fine sit-down experience. But there's an area right at the front of the store that has utensils, napkins, cream, sugar, trash cans... pretty much everything but the drinks and crepes themselves. Things can get very crowded here during the busy times, and sometimes it's messier than I would like. The crepe selection for vegetarians feels a little thin too. If you just count all the options, it's a respectable number, but a few too many of them are just variations on the same "spinach, basil, and something else" theme. Others, like the mushroom and thyme, sound a little thin to be interesting. What I don't count against it, though, is the fact that it's often busy and sometimes hard to find a table. I had never had a crepe before so I was curious as to how it would be. Luckily I went to Mr. Crepe. This is a good place to go to get a crepe for the first time. The have many options from breakfast crepes, to lunch, dinner and dessert. I like the consistency of the bread. Thicker than other crepe places which is why these taste so good! read more

The strawberry and belgian chocolate crepe I got at Mr Crêpe this week was certainly yummy, if not a little expensive for what it was. It definitely could have done with a few more strawberries! My friend got one of the savoury super crepes, though, which looked like much better value for money. it was absolutely stuffed, and I found myself wishing I'd got one too! I didn't try it, but she told me that it tasted great. There's a good variety to choose from, and I like the option to build your own, as well. The atmosphere in the place was nice and open, and we had no trouble finding a table. The service was pretty prompt as well. If I go back again I definitely want to try out some of their drinks; there's a large menu to choose from, and I saw a couple of people order some lattes that looked incredible! read more

You can't go wrong with a good crepe. I had the super pesto and was not disappointed. I was afraid that it wasn't going to be enough for breakfast but with a dirty chai tea, I was full. I don't think that a sweet crepe is large enough for breakfast unless you add some fruit. The nice part about this place is that you can create whatever crepe you want. Man, I love this place. First of all, it's crepes. The world needs more crepes. I spent half a year living in Paris and let me tell you, I was sure I'd never tastes crepes as good as Parisian ones again. I was so very wrong! You can get the staple banana-nutella crepe here, and my eyes mist over with tears of nostalgia, seriously. I should deduct half a star (?) for some inaccuracy -- savory crepes in France are made on a non-sweet "crepe" called a galette. To me it just tastes weird to eat a "crepe" with meat or egg in it when it's not on a galette, but I suspect most people don't know the difference. Still, I hope this place gets proper galettes one day soon, as it tastes so much better. THEY. SERVE. RAO'S. COFFEE. Holy crap, Pioneer Valley expats rejoice! I never thought I'd taste the glory that is Rao's outside of Rao's proper in Amherst. And lo, the deliciousness is here. If you are morally opposed to Starbucks and just can't stand Diesel, go to Mr. Crepe's and get a Rao's coffee. It's based right in Amherst, Massachusetts, so yes, you're supporting a small business by drinking it! And damn, it's delicious. As for "slow service" for crepes -- they're made to order, and crepes take a while to cook. Sorry guys, that's just kind of how it is, so definitely don't be in a rush. If you cook them too fast, the food inside doesn't cook -- turning up the heat will just burn the crepe, and there is nothing worse than a burnt crepe! Crepes are from the land of SLOW food, so don't expect it to be fast ;) Also, the savory crepes, while a bit pricey, are a full meal in of themselves. So it might feel like a ripoff, I don't think I've ever finished a whole savory crepe in one sitting. (The sweet ones, however, dissappear quickly!) I feel a little bad giving Mr Crepe only 3 stars, but perhaps over time I will upgrade. They still need to work out the kinks, it seems. The positive: the crepe I had (arugula, walnuts, pears, gorgonzola) was delicious. It was exactly the same as it used to be in their old location but was made much more quickly (and I think might be a dollar more expensive now). The coffee, though I haven't tried it yet, I've heard is good. I also haven't tried the waffles yet. Friendly and attentive service. The negative: Expensive. It was over $8 for my crepe. My friend's crepe, apple and cinnamon, was loaded on with so much cinnamon that it practically choked her, and the apples were very cold. The space is not that appealing. I ate here for lunch the other day and got an apple, grape and brie crepe. I spent nearly 10 bucks once i'd bought the crepe and a drink, which is not worth what I got. The crepe was tasty, but not exceptional for the price. Plus, for how few people there were in line before me, we had to wait quite a while for our food. I almost feel like this place needs to choose whether it's going to be a pricier, slower moving place with table service (right now it's a pick up your food, bus your own table affair) or whether it's going to be a fast and cheap crepe stand. Okay, the place has got some kinks to work out, but overall I was very satisfied with my coffee and crepe. I'll start with the kinks. First of all, can we please have a sign outside? Perhaps something saying, I dunno, "CREPES". I had to walk past the place a couple times wondering, hmmm, is this the new crepe place everyone is talking about...wait is that a crepe??....oooo....oooo, yes, I think that guy is eating a crepe, this must be the crepe place. Secondly, how about posting the crepes available on big menu on the wall? Is that too much to ask? We had to politely insinutate ourselves into the personal space of some yuppy dude in order to peek at a printed menu. However, the girl at the counter helped us along a bit in prodding the guy to give us some space so we too could read what crepes were available too. All this could be averted with a nice big sign. So those are my issues with the place. Now for the good stuff. Belgian cholocate, banana and coconut crepe. Worship it. The crepe was a bit thick but the quality of the yummy chocolate and banana and coconut totally made up for it. Also very yummy was the mocha latte. Our lattes and our crepes were cheerfully brought to our table by a smiling young dude, which was great, since we weren't really expecting table service. Nice touch. Atmosphere is cool too. Chairs are sleek and comfortable and even though we were sitting near the window and the door on a very cold night, it was still plenty warm inside. I highly recommend the food and the service here. Aside from the awkwardness of determining that it was indeed a crepe place and placing our orders everything was great. Will definitely be back. read more

STAY AWAY! STAY AWAY! This place is abuzz with HEALTH CODE VIOLATIONS. The day we went, the employees weren't wearing hairnets OR gloves, and they were actively HANDLING ALL of the ingredients for the crepes. When this was mentioned to the manager, she told us "the employees won't wear the hairnets, plus her hair (pointing to an employee) is so short, nothing will fall anywhere". I go to Mr. Crepe regularly because I know that I can always expect a delicious and high-quality crepe, just like those in France! I usually go for a crepe with nutella but have also tried (and enjoyed) their crepes with nutella, bananas and almonds. Their savory crepes are also great for meals and their soup menu is delicious. I haven't tried many of their other menu items yet because I love what I usually order but in the future I'd love to. The service is also always friendly and very quick. Stopped in to get dessert and espressos after getting dinner in Davis square, and my friend and I were very happy with our choices! We got a nutella crepe with bananas, sliced almonds and we added peanut butter as the extra ingredient. It tasted absolutely phenomenal, definitely did not regret our decision. Only thing that bothered me was the powdered sugar wasn't evenly distributed on top of the crepe--very minor! The espressos were rich and flavorful. They use RAOS brand. I f-ing love this place. The food here is so delicious that thinking about it right now is making my tummy grumble so bad. To be fair, I will admit that I have only ever had their savory crepes, but this fact is all their fault. I go in thinking about how delicious Nutella® and powdered sugar is and then I end up ordering something with brie and arugula. Never fail, it happens to me every freaking time. Then, when I am devouring said brie infused nom-ness, I am always like 'I am totally ordering a sweet one after I finish this one!' but I never do because I am so full from the first one. What am I to do? In all honesty, though, this is a problem I am willing to live with. I love watching them making the crepes and using the magic crepe squeegee; it kind of makes me want to have one of those at home but then I would gain a ton of weight from eating crepes everyday at least twice. So maybe it is a good thing that I don't have one and I should just be satisfied with coveting theirs. The service does leave a little to be desired and the way the line is always bunched at the door (especially on Sunday afternoons) is 100% annoying. The food makes up for it though. You also have to be something of a seat vulture and circle until a table vacates, then pounce without regard to the family with the stroller. They bashed you in the back of the calves when you were in line anyway, so really they had it coming. AND who brings a jogging stroller into a place this size anyway!? The nerve... Sorry, I think I got off track a little bit there. This place is a decent size, but it is not set up to have a a jogging stroller navigate it. So, families take note: umbrella strollers are okay, three wheeled, SUV-like, jogging strollers are not, those strollers are only good for jogging. Shocking but true. Back to the service. It is not a waiter service; you get a number on your receipt and a buzzy thing, like you would if you are waiting for a table at Applebee's. Then you play table vulture, like mentioned before, and wait for either your number to be called or your buzzy thing to buzz. You bus you own tables too, which I can understand would be a turn off to the high maintenance types. All in all, the system they have set up works all right. It is just weird for the type of food that they serve. If this was a burger place I wouldn't think twice about it. Maybe I am just being a crepe elitist with that last comment, but it is kind of true if you think about it. The point is that this place is totally Nom worthy, and if you don't have a child in a jogging stroller you should try it out when you get the chance, but don't be alarmed if you have to clean up after yourself. read more

But paying almost $30 for two crepes doesn't sound good to me. Add ons or substitutes are expensive. Also please never get a smoothie here ever. Worst smoothie I've ever had. She used a BUNCH of water with orange juice as the base with a fourth cup of frozen strawberries and one banana. Because she used so much water there was over half of another full sized smoothie cup left over. I asked if I could purchase the extra smoothie (fruit water) left over at a discount and was denied! The crepes are great but too expensive and I'm still mad about the smoothie. Also the music is usually bad and the chairs are uncomfortable. Mr. Crepe is a fine, cozy spot to get lunch, and I cannot deny a crepe. I've been here a couple times, and usually end up splitting one savory crepe and one sweet crepe with a friend or friends. Although I haven't tried a wide variety of crepes in my life, I can say that these are quite tasty as far as food in general goes. And oh, Nutella, how I love you and your trans-fatty deliciousness. And the apple-grape-brie crepe is oh so trendy and delicious. I ordered a chai tea one time and was pretty disappointed - it was quite bland. I'd rather have a chai from Double D's down the street, and I would only rarely choose Dunkin Donut's overly-sugary blend over chai from a nice, privately owned place. I pretty much agree with a lot of what's been said before: crepes are yummy but expensive. (I totally crave the brie, apples and grapes crepe, so, so good!) I have to say, they are SLOW!!! Do not go in here if you are in a hurry. I understand it takes time to make a crepe, but there has got to be a way to do it faster than they do. Haven't had the coffee, so I can't say about that. Richardson's ice cream is, of course, very good, but the Somerville Theater has a better selection of flavors (at least they have the two times I've checked). I don't know about the giant menu thing, I'm quite happy not getting a crick in my neck while being my usual ball of indecisiveness. I think so long as they have plenty of printed menus there's no reason that can't work. Also, as far as the time limit thing, it should be noted that it is addressed specifically to people NOT ordering crepes. (Which is good, since by the time you actually get your food you've probably used up at least half the 30 minutes, and then there's the whole eating bit.) read more

Came in yesterday with some friends after some urban flea/marketing. They only had drinks -- bottled seltzer from the cooler, which I grabbed as well but I ate early AM, and decided to get something to eat. The dessert crepes looked really good but I thought I would make a more mindful choice, and got one of the vegetarian offerings. It had of a filling of dark greens, tomato, avocado and a little feta cheese. Generous portion, and was really delicious, one note -- the dough really didn't seem to be crepe/thin but it was thicker texture, more like a calzone -- which seriously was not a problem for me because I love calzone, never met a carb I didn't like, etc. Staff were nice and service was quick. You order, they give you a flashing/beeper but then they bring food out to you. Also were nice when asking for the restroom code. read more

We went after the dinner rush was over, on a night my boyfriend got out of work really late (so glad they're open till 11) and loved it. My favorite part was the soup--the special was yukon gold potato soup. It was not what I was expecting; it was made from chunks of yukon potato in a delicious golden broth, rather than a more traditional creamy potato soup, but it was wonderful. Good soup is very difficult to find, but there's almost no food I'd rather eat. This soup was so good I made my boyfriend go up and get me another bowl, and I would have gotten a third one too but I decided I had to stop. The crepes were good too, not the best I've had but the menu is so extensive that next time I would just order something different. Everything was a little too heavy on the cheese. Overall things were good though, and the staff was very friendly. Only a couple of tables were filled, and it was so relaxing to just hang out there and chill on a hot summer night. On a cold winter's night, there was nothing easier to do than hop on the campus shuttle and head to Davis Square where Mr. Crepe is located. We love this place because it's affordable, you get full off of your meal, and the food tastes great. So what if the crepes are a little thicker? Is the point not to get full and have to eat again in three hours? If you actually wanted real crepes, perhaps Paris or French-speaking countries would be more up your alley. I want bang for my buck and if that means tasty but thicker crepes, so be it. I am in love with the marinated goat cheese you can find here and typically get it in the spinach, portabella mushroom, and basil crepe. I also tried the nutella and strawberry crepe. I have to say that it had an odd aftertaste (from the strawberries), so perhaps the trick is to go with just nutella on your crepe. Though I also have to admit that the price for such a plain crepe is a bit high in this case. Nevertheless, warm place, convenient location, no rush to leave. Love it. read more

Really delicious....if they can get it right. Today, asked for gluten free, got wheat. 2 weeks ago, I asked for bacon, she gave me ham...and then tried to suggest I had said ham. She was kind about it, but also, I said bacon twice, she repeated it twice, and still hit ham on the screen. Time before that was fine, but the time before that, I asked for gluten free, got all the way to work, excited for breakfast, to find a wheat crepe. My theories: either Mr. Crepe doesn't pay well enough (as suggested by the tip jar on the counter), or they have the most complicated computer entry system on the planet. Either way, I'll be staying away from now on. If anybody has a suggestion for a crepe place with more consistent service, I'd appreciate it. read more

I've been there twice for a quick bite. The atmosphere is pretty chill with quaint decor, and very nice employees. Seems as if they were one employee short of impeccable service, both times, but it was good enough to return. The food: The first time, my girlfriend and I started with raspberry Ice Tea as we waited to split a merguez based crepe. The tea was not what you would expect. I tried hard to like it (but couldn't), but ultimately drank it. She, however, did not like it... to the credit of the staff, they noticed her discontent as they passed by and were quick to swap out the drink with something else (and refund her money --- which she in turn put in the tip jar). The crepe, however, was a different story as I thought it was very good. The combination of the herb feta and lamb sausage was extremely palatable and the durability of the crepe kept it together to create a relatively mess-free meal. I think the world of crepe eaters would prefer the soft crepes that we are accustomed to, but the firmness was not necessarily a show-stopper. We finished by splitting a strawberry and Nutella crepe... You can't go wrong with Nutella... So the second time was a little different... This time, we were not in as much of a rush and both a little hungrier, so we each got a filled crepe. This time we started with the lemonade. Here's the deal.. I think this place should reevaluate their drink recipes. The lemonade was so incredibly sour we had to add a considerable amount of simple syrup to make it drinkable. I believe offering simple syrup as a condiment is a nice concept, but the lemonade should be prepared with just enough sweetness to make it drinkable from the start (try blending with other juice). Oh, and just an FYI, I saw three half full mugs of cider being returned if that is any indication... I'll stay away from that anyway. Back to the crepe --- we both liked the merguez sausage to the point that we decided to try it again. Our other crepe consisted of roasted chicken and sun-dried tomatoes. After a few bites we realized the chicken crepe was not even in the same league as the sausage one. I thought the flavors were off-balanced, and the overall eating experience was less than exceptional. The crepes were again very firm... Good for convenience I suppose. Overall --- I'd go back for the Brie crepe that others talk about, but with the number of other restaurants in the area I will probably wait until all other options are exhausted. The place is pretty expensive, but I was willing to shell out $11 for a savory lox crepe because I wanted to eat healthy, I love lox and was in a rush. I ordered their lox crepe which oddly came with sour cream (not a combo I would assume is good so I got it without the sour cream). The crepe batter was rubbery and worst of all they cooked the lox. The whole point of lox is that it is raw and cured with salt, so cooked lox just tastes disgusting. I told my friend about my experience and she said last time she was there she ordered a $4 latte and there were tons of grinds at the bottem of the cup, they didn't make it correctly. There are a good amount of tables but they are all round, small ones so seating for a group might be a problem. It was constantly busy while I was there but never so crowded that people couldn't find a seat. You order at the counter and are given a pager so you know when your food is done so you can go and find a table while you wait, which won't be long. There is a good selection of sweet and savory crepes or you can put together your own so there is something for everyone. They also have a pretty good selection of pastries. I got the spinach, basil and tomato crepe with feta. There was plenty of spinach and the feta gave it just the right amount of salt. (Without the feta I would have wanted to add salt.) The chai latte was okay but nothing special. Which pretty much sums up my feelings of the whole experience. I would stop by and try a sweet crepe if I was in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way to go back. read more

No gloves or hair nets and the staff had their bare hands all over my food. Hope they wash well! The crepe was edible, but not exciting. Maybe one of the dessert ones would be better. I don't think I've ever met a crepe I didn't like, savory or sweet, and Mr. Crepe has some pretty solid offerings. My complaints, like a lot of the other reviews, are more about the atmosphere than the food. We went on a weeknight, later in the evening, and while the food was good, the employees were a bit gruff, and we felt rushed through our meal. Even though we left before closing time, they started closing down the restaurant while we were still sitting there, eating our meal. read more

Popped in here on a whim while walking around Davis Square. It had been way too long since I had eaten a crepe. I ordered it with just butter and sugar, nothing else-- a classic combo. Took it to go, and I shared it on the T with my crepe-craving companion. Personally, I prefer my crepes just a little thinner and with a tiny bit of crisp to it (and where was the powdered sugar on top?), but nonetheless my treat was steaming hot, sugary, and buttery. The crepes are fine, although I ditto someone else's comment that the place in Harvard Square is better. The staff is kind of slow and vaguely sour-looking. Standing in line takes forever, and if we have to bus our own tables, the crepes shouldn't cost $9 a pop. That's all I'm saying. The Davis Square location is pretty convenient though, so I'll probably come in for a dessert crepe every now and again. read more

WOW do I love it here or what. I'm a bit of a coffee snob and their iced latte was so so so good. Their crepes are phenomenal and are made so quickly. They come out piping hot too. Easily found somewhere to sit on a Saturday morning. Kind service. Love it here!! read more
