It was freshly made, buttery, and had little apple chunks in it. Her confusion about the seating was understandable, because for some unknown reason the cafe needs to close a full hour before the bookshop (and they begin this process earlier even than that, by "helpfully" putting away the chairs and turning off the lights). Briefly speaking, my recommendation is to stay far-far away from Bakehaus! Not just because of quality of their offerings but also because of the owner (Michael). As one can easily find at Google Reviews, there are many complains about service, their food and their prices. I personally totally agree with all of them. For example, service is typically very slow, inattentive, and staff is very unhappy when customers ask for dining-in rather than take-out. Entrees are rather dry and tasteless. Also, one can get a lunch at full-service restaurant across the street (Savino's) at a table with white cloth - all for less $. All that was mentioned at Google by many people (including myself), however what was shocking to me is that Bakehaus owner (Michael) responded to them is a very rude way, openly lying and misrepresenting information and then baselessly accusing reviewers. In my case, for example, I provided the date and time I dined-in, so Michael dug through receipts and credit card slips, found my order and started publicly accusing me for creating fake profiles and harassing local businesses. Michael seems to miss he point that, indeed, the name on credit card was not mine but it was just my friend who paid for the lunch. My friend was really shocked when I told him about that and we read the review accusing HIM, not me. Needless to say that it is actually illegal to release that info publicly, however even these accusations are wrong! Overall, if you don't want to have one of the worst food in the neighborhood for the price of nice mid-range restaurant in downtown, if you don't want YOUR FRIEND to be publicly accused for YOUR review, please, don't even think to enter Bakehaus. Though they do pay taxes to Belmont and I appreciate that, some business still have to go! read more

Amazing! Delicious Croissants, Breakfast Pastries, Sandwiches, etc. Everything Is made in house daily. I have had the homemade biscuit breakfast sandwich, the chicken pot pie, duck with sour cherry sauce, and of course the Kouign-Amann (a caramelized croissant) is to die for. The chef and his team are producing amazing quality dishes in this small cafe tucked in on Common Street. read more

Viet iced coffee is my jet fuel for the bike rides. I stepped in and asked if they took credit card, which they did! I never carry cash, so when the Google AI overview told me they were cash only, I was bummed. Anyway, trust but verify. The AI Overview can't be taken at face value, Today was an unbearably hot day (100F!), and I ordered a veggie omelet and an iced coffee. The staff immediately brought me ice water and even suggested I move closer to the window where it was cooler, which I really appreciated: it was a small gesture, but one that made me feel genuinely welcome. They were attentive throughout the meal too, even asking whether I wanted hot sauce and then checking if Cholula was okay instead of just dropping off whatever they had. The food was exactly what I was hoping for: a solid, satisfying diner breakfast. The veggie omelet was tasty, the home fries were good (maybe could be crispier on the outside, but they were gonna be murdered in Cholula anyway, so does it even matter?), and the toast was great even without butter.
