Truly a standout experience--if the goal is to turn a routine tow into a before-and-after case study. Let me start with the highlight: the older gentleman who helped guide me to my car. Genuinely the only professional there--polite, helpful, and actually seemed to care. Unfortunately, he was the exception. The rest of the experience felt like chaos. One of the workers thought it was a great time to casually talk about fights and getting stabbed, which really inspires confidence when you're trusting people with your vehicle. And of course, the tow itself came with a bonus feature: damaged rims that were absolutely not there before. I have low-profile wheels, so I expected basic care, but apparently the flatbed's metal edge had other plans. I sat down to read the contract because they handwrote an additional fee that is not typed on their contract. i sat down to read it once they would not give me a type written explanation and a white female came outside to where I was sitting quietly and snatched the contract out of my hands . If I could give zero stars, I would. My car was towed from my apartment complex at 11:30 PM. When the storm was happening yesterday my car was towed for having no permit when I had a permit in my car and have lived in my apartment complex since 2023 and have never touched my parking permit. I went down there and they told me my parking permit was not in the car and I was not allowed to look in my vehicle from the outside. I could see that there was a fingerprint swiped across where my parking permit was and once I had access to go inside my car, the parking permit was right there on the floor. There are multiple reviews on here about parking permits being removed from peoples cars. I had to pay $345 and not go to work and have my kids not go to school. When I received my car, it smelled like cigarettes and mind you I have three toddlers and now my car smells, and my bumper was damaged. read more

My vehicle was towed by Mr. C's Towing, Inc., owned by Kurtis McElroy. If you search his name along with City of Seal Beach, you can find all of his business information and insurance. The tow occurred at Bay Hill Apartments in Long Beach. California Vehicle Code § 22658 states that residential properties must have specific, clearly visible tow-warning signs at every entrance (17"×22" with 1-inch lettering, listing the towing company and law enforcement phone number). The entrances at this property did not have the required signage. When I picked up my vehicle, the written authorization, which legally must show the authorized agent's signature, name, and reason for the tow, had the entire authorization section removed on my copy. California law allows redaction of some personal info, but not removal of the authorization itself. The tow-inventory sheet stated "no damage," but my vehicle had new scratches on release. Only one unclear pre-tow photo was provided. I sent a written request for a refund and copies of the authorization, but I received no response. I have since filed complaints with the Better Business Bureau, California Attorney General, and Long Beach Police Department for review under Vehicle Code § 22658. If this happened to you, here are steps you can take to recover your money (all based on California law): 1. Take photos of the entrance to see if the required signage is posted. 2. Request a copy of the written tow authorization. They must provide a redacted copy within 24 hours upon request. 3. My grandma's car got towed here before (only gone for 2 mins and we have proof) so I've gone through the whole Mr. C's BS. At the apartment building, there are no signs indicating that parking in front of our garages is prohibited. My neighbors and I have parked in front of our garages for years without issue. There are no posted signage prohibiting parking in that location, as required under California Civil Code §22658(a). The only visible sign near our building states that parking is reserved for tenants, which I am, and there have been no changes communicated regarding our parking policy. This morning, my vehicle was towed despite other cars being parked in the same location where we regularly park. Mr. C's Towing Company unlawfully towed my vehicle having me to pay storage fees and impounding fees. The lady at the window was very rude and unprofessional. When we called they said their drivers don't look in the cars for permits, but they can throw the thing on the floor. I got my car towed! The signs were clearly posted and it was 100% my own fault. I called the number on the sign and the good folks at Mr. Cs Towing answered! They were curt, but courteous...and gave me a couple of options to pick up my car. I came the next morning, paid the towing fee, and picked up my car, which seemed to be in good shape. I read the all of the negative reviews on Yelp before I went and decided I would be friendly and polite -- and they reciprocated! Super friendly people there! This is a police impound lot, so they charge as much as they possibly can. This is on top of the police vehicle release fee, which has to be paid before they issue a stamped release form for the impound. Two days storage plus towing came to $540, not counting the $140 at the police station. My tow wasn't even punitive, but I was forced to pay punitive prices. Very very shitty. On the bright side once it was released all I had to say was that I'm selling it to a chop shop and they didn't ask questions.
