SPOILED FISH!!! Seriously, how does an Irish bar & grill screw up fish and chips??? One of our sons is a big F&C fan. He orders the dish, takes one bite and immediately spits it out. I tried it, thinking he was just being overly picky. NOPE- fish was BAD! I called our server over who was very apologetic, took it off our bill and got him a burger. While on the subject of their burgers, they use Angus which is always very dry. IMHO, you CANNOT make a decent burger without plain old 80% ground chuck! Service was slow also. The bar area had a very classic look, with lots of dark wood. The seating was elegant, with wooden chairs and white fabric table clothes. I loved my drink and the bartender was even nice enough to try making a new drink I had heard about. I loved the music in the background, it was at the perfect volume. I pretty much joined Yelp solely to review this place. Some friends took me to Mr. Dooleys for a hungover breakfast about two years ago, and since then it's become my go-to breakfast and bar. The place is incredibly Irish, which is perfect for me. You're always eating or drinking to the sound of The Pogues, or Saw Doctors, mixed in with The Chieftains, and Dubliners. The big thing here, at least for me, is the Irish breakfast, which unlike other "Irish" pubs in the area, is completely legit. It's one of the best breakfasts in Boston, and unless you haven't eaten in a few days, definitely get the 1/2 Irish Breakfast instead of the full, because you'll never finish it. Another nice thing about coming here for breakfast is that, unlike a lot of the major breakfast spots in the city, I've never had to wait for a table. It's like one of the Financial District's best kept secrets! And the staff has always been really courteous, friendly, and efficient. At night the bar get pretty lively. They have a band come in a play classic Irish folk songs (Rocky Road to Dublin, Whiskey in the Jar, ect), and while the space isn't big, it never feels too crowded. And one the crowd's had some time to warm up at the bar, there's actually dancing! You can also tell that Dooley's is the real deal because they carry Murphy's Stout instead of just Guinness--along with a pretty extensive Irish whiskey menu. So if you're looking for a great place to grab an Irish breakfast with a good stout, or listen to live Irish music, Dooley's is--bar none--the best Irish pub in Boston. read more

Absolutely amazing food! Love the Steak Tips and the Irish Mixed Grill. But easily the worst service I've had during my 5 week trip across the USA. Noone was there to great us, we had to find the menus and a seat ourselves. We were not asked for drinks when ordering our meals. So we had to get our own drinks, as the server was just staying down by the kitchen, not attending our table at all. Then as she eventually walked past, advised us that she is there to get drinks and that's why they are waiting our table. Barman wasn't exactly friendly. But when it came to the other waitress, she was lovely for the couple of interactions we had. Lastly, the food was amazing. So so so good! Very disappointed with the service but I highly recommend eating here. If you don't get the rude waitress, it will be a lovely night. read more

If you haven't been here and are weary of what to get, they will blow you away I got the Bangers and Mash as my entree and the sausage was good, mash potatoes were alright, the beans were definitely out of the can. Strolled on for lunch after touring Quincy Market. The pub was pretty quiet when we arrived and we were promptly seated. Courteous service with a thick Belfast accent added to the charm. Pints were perfect and the food was surprisingly excellent. Delicious lobster roll and the best nachos experienced by any of us, anywhere. I can't lie - I'm ignorant when it comes to Irish pubs. But we were in Boston and Yelp gave it great reviews, so we went for lunch. There was only one other couple there when we arrived, so it was quiet except for the Irish music playing. Our waitress was okay - she faked an Irish accent a few times which was so weird that it made me uncomfortable. However, the food was great. My husband had Shepard's Pie and he loved it! He said it was the best he's ever tasted. I ordered the fish and chips and thought it was spectacular. I really don't care if it was frozen or not (another reviewer made an assumption that it was), but I thought it was awesome. The place is clean, and not on the tourist path, so I appreciated the fact that it wasn't busy like the ridiculous "Cheers" bar...I still can't get over how many people were at that tourist trap. This place has the rudest waitress I have ever experienced in my life. There were 4 open tables and we already had drinks, but let her know that we were going to get dinner. She said that we could not come near the tables or even put our drinks down until she cleared them and that if we did, we'd be in trouble. There was no one waiting, no line, no nothing... just a Broomhilda waitress who took over 20 minutes to remove the old patron's empty glasses. This was my first stop on a recent pub crawl so I was 100% sober and very aware of my surroundings. This place is so comfortable. It has the feeling of an authentic Irish pub that you might enter in say...Ireland. The Guinness was one of the tastier ones I've had in the city. Loves it! This bar was on a best bars in Boston list and somehow, we stumbled right upon it. There was an Irish folk singer doing his thing the night we went so there was a lot of lively people dancing, drinking and having a gay ole' time. Might I add there was no cover! The bartenders were nice and remembered what everyone ordered the first time around, which made it easy to keep those drinks coming (although I'm not sure that was the best idea). All in all, it was a fun time and I would recommend this bar to anyone traveling or living in Boston. read more

The bangers and mash left a lot to be desired, the chicken wings were dry and the burgers were so so. My burger wasn't bad but my husband's was dry. My review is split down the middle based on bar versus food. The financial district has never, in my entire, long, drinking life, been one of my spots so I went in with an open mind. I met 2 friends on a Tuesday in the pouring rain and the place was still pretty full. I was surprised how relatively small the room was. The server was great. The band was great. The beer selection, great. The food...well, not so much. My friend seemed happy with 1/3 of his Irish Trio (shepherd's pie, Irish stew and some kind of pot pie) and my beer battered chicken was so greasy and heavy in batter it was not satisfying in the least. I also felt the prices for food was well above the quality. The portions were generous. Good Irish pub food if you happen to be in the Financial District and in need of some beers, basic pub food, and a good place to chat with coworkers. I travel to Boston a fair amount for work, and came here the other night with some colleagues after a long day at the office. Since it was walking distance to our hotel and we wanted something low-key, it was perfect. As other reviewers have noted, I'm sure there are better places in the area, but this was perfect for us.
